Which fairly recent Sonic games invoked strong emotion when you first played it?

Sonic Colors

I remember my memories of playing the original classics. I remember my memories of playing MEGA Collection over and over once I beat it. I never let those games go despite playing them countless times. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were ok, but they just didn't have that spark. Same with Sonic Heroes and Shadow, it just didn't.. do justice. I thought Sonic and the Secret Rings was fun but it was no masterpiece. Thankfully, that would be restored with Unleashed. Right? Well, not really. Unleashed was crap.

Once I booted up Sonic Colors I was amazed. It was the first Sonic game I've played that brought so many good memories back. All the environments are fantasy inspired which drew away from previous games. Unleashed was so realistic, while Colors was basically going back to the Classic route with zone themes. Starlight Carnival? Tropical Resort? Planet Wisp? Asteroid Coaster? All fantastic.

The game also went back to the platforming style while being mostly 2D. Sonic Colors had so many different routes and abilities that it was fun playing over and over. There were countless secrets that made me want to go back. The game even had the the whole idea of being REWARDED with speed. It wasn't like Unleashed or Gens where you pretty much had boost 24/7. You could be in an energy crisis for a majority of the stage if you don't take the best routes.

You can't forget about the voice actors. No more "SAWWWNIK" voice actors. We got a simple casual story that works with voices that don't irritate your ears. There aren't any other pointless character with it just being Sonic & Tails. It brings back the epic memories of Sonic 2.

So basically - The Music, Atmosphere, Story, Voices, Character Interaction, and Gameplay brought so much emotion while playing Sonic Colors.

The last ones for me were Colors, Generations, SA:DX (I have the DC version now, but I played the GCN one first), and SA2:B (Yes, I have the Dreamcast version too, but the GCN one was the first version I played, so it was the one that drew emotions from me the most).

1. Sonic Adventure 2 Out of those four, SA2 was the first one I got (definitely not my first sonic game, just the first of THOSE four games.). I was in awe at how awesome that game was. I enjoyed every bit of that game, aside from Security Hall and that Beetle Robot in Egg Quarters. Heck, I STILL love the game, I still play it, and still enjoy all three play styles, no matter what the haters of SA2 say about them. The game is great fun. I was sad to see Shadow die, but I wish he stayed dead...

2. Sonic Adventure DX On the same day I bought SA2, I bought Sonic Mega Collection on the GCN. Now, I was going through the movies section of the Extra part of the Mega Collection and came across the most badass video I'd ever seen up to that point in my experiences in this series: The intro video to Sonic Adventure! I was in shock in how badass that was! I was upset I couldn't get the game, since the Dreamcast had stopped the prior year, and I lived in a small town at the time, so I had never seen a Dreamcast in person before. So I reassured myself that surely they'd put it on the GCN since SA2 was on it. Sure enough, I was right! I got it as soon as I discovered it at Wal-mart, and played it. I was let down by the difficulty (The game is TOO easy IMO), but I loved that game the first time I played it. Like with SA2, I still love, play, and enjoy the game and the other playstyles (not counting the terrible Big stages) despite what the SA1 haters think of them. I definitely thought the levels were better, just too easy. The only bad thing, though, was the glitches, unlike in SA2:B, where I never once died from a glitch (I was never one of those who goes glitch hunting, so the ONLY glitches I'd ever find were ones that actually hurt your progress, so I never ran into any glitch in SA2:B. Having said that, I did hear about from a friend and did the fly in the void as Sonic/Shadow in the Neutral Chao Garden one), I actually ran into some in SA:DX. Three places kill me almost half the time, via clipping through the floor.

3. Sonic Colors Ok, after years of mediocre or crap Sonic games (Heroes-meh, Shadow-99% crap, Sonic 06: 100% S***, Sonic Unleashed-meh [i personally think this is their third worst, but that's just me {but, still a million times better than Shadow or Sonic 06. I DO have some fun with Unleashed, though not that often <I am trying to like this game like everyone else, but I just can never seem to have fun>}.), I was about to say F it and give up completely {I had never seen a company go into the toilet so fast after making some of my favorite games ever...}. Then I played this. Wow. I was amazed. This was going through my mind the whole time I played through it the first time: "Unleashed style game-play made THIS?!? There's hope for this series after all!". I didn't care that much for the wisps, though.

4. Sonic Generations (Xbox 360) I was amazed by it. Though not as much fun as the Adventure games for me, there was plenty of fun that I got playing it. Although they horrible bosses for half of it (I don't like Eggman Robot, I HATED Shadow's fight, I HATED Time Eater, and I did not like Metal Sonic), The levels were awesome, and the majority of the missions were fun (yes, there were terrible ones, but I liked over half of them). I do NOT like the 3DS version, but this is all about the Xbox one. I can safely say by this game that my faith in SEGA has almost completely been restored.

Sonic Generations did, despite the physics, because it had Classic Sonic and classic stages.

Anything that reminds me of the classics in anyway deserves some sort of respect. True fact, bro, true fact.

I think I shat bricks when I played Crisis City in Generations. Dat scenery gorn, dat music, dat platforming. Same with Adventure's Speed Highway, and to a small extent in Generations (I was disappointed in Gens Speed Highway until I found the alternate paths).

I don't really remember anything else, other Sonic games tend to grow on me more than being "holy shit awesome" straight away.

The most emotional impact I got from a recent Sonic game would have to be Sonic Colors. I had purchased both that and Sonic Unleashed HD via Amazon, having never played either; This was sometime before Sonic Generations came out. Sonic Colors just happened to arrive in the mail first, so it was the first real Modern game I played. I remember being really taken aback at the gameplay and design, which was really mindblowing. It was a simple time in my life, when I didn't really care about the graphical limitations of a console, and didn't have a forum of people constantly pointing out flaws to bring me down. Anyway, I played through the entire game in two sittings; Once to beat the story, and again to collect the remaining Red Rings. I enjoyed every second of it.

06 made me so happy when I finished it. I felt like I was dancing in the air... Okay, now that that's out of the way.

The games that made me do that were Gens, Unleashed, Colors and SatBK.

I grew up with Heroes, yeah I know what you are gonna say, but Seaside Hill is my Green Hill. When I just saw Modern Seaside Hill, I was just stuck in awe as I went around, exploring everything. I am really happy with the way they did it. Ofcourse, Rooftop Run Classic was awesome too and Planet Wisp Modern's intro just made me faint (in a good way)

Unleashed just made me so happy to be playing at light speed around the world, I just loved the concept of it.

Colors, hey, can any of you tell me you didn't feel awesome when you went LAZAH! or DRILL! in Tropical Resort? Planet Wisp blew my mind. The Wisps were awesome. The characterisation and script was amazing. I just love that game.

SatBK, well, when you first look at the intro and see the coolness of Sonic, you feel so happy to know the dude's back. Of course, Jason did an amazing job and I loved the VA, story and script of the whole game.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (2006). I was but a humble 15 year-old boy with so much hope for the world. I hadn't looked at any reviews because I wanted my first playthrough to be special. My Xbox simply couldn't go on fast enough. I couldn't believe it. Sonic was back and he was going to make up for the mediocre Heroes. I was so excited and happy. Who's that ugly ginger lady? Oh my god it's Robotnik! In full HD! He looks weird... OH! Look at Sonic go in that opening cutscene! What's with the marijuana Hedgehog? Why is Sonic so slow? Why am I stuck in a wall? Why are the loading screens so long? WHY IS THAT HUMAN ATTRACTED TO SONIC?!? STOP SAYING IT'S NO USE DAMMIT! WHY CAN'T I BEAT SILVER? KNUCKLES WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU?!? WHY SEGA WHY?!?

I hated the thing I loved most. Sonic was dead. He was a laughing stock. I didn't play any Sonic games for four years.

At this point I realized I was too obsessed with Sonic and I needed to move on. So I um, got out a lot more :L

Sonic MOTHERFUCKING Unleashed HD! I mean...wow. After having played Sonic Unleashed for Wii, I always have ask myself how it would be to play this game on Xbox 360 or PS3. But I didn't have on until now. I was one of the people who pretty much was happy with all the games that came out (even the demo of Sonic 06 was enjoyable to me) and so was Sonic Colors and Generations. But...after having finished Generations, there was just something about Unleashed....the story, the graphics on the HD version, the Hubworlds..that just made me want to play it. So I was asking my mother ot by it for me and it was a long time, that I was so excited waiting for a game! After it came and I put it in my disc. I was just amazed. But the moment where really was blown away, was in Chun-nan. After you finish the night level of Chun-Nan and you are brought back to the Hub and listen to the strong emotional music and this little girl just says "I love you Sonic!" ...I don't know why, but that just amazed me so much, that I had to put the controller down for one second and just listen to the music and think. Wow.

Also the incredible music and view of Sonic Colors's Planet Wisp Stage really showed me how beautiful this fictional world of Sonic is.

The soft tones in music and the whole atmosphere of the Knuckles and Rouge Stages can't be forgotten either.

'

The intense feeling you get playing the Chaos Angel stages in Sonic Advance 3 and the clash between Sonic and Blaze in the 7 Boss Battle in Sonic Rush.

Sonic Colors, when I arrived to the first stage of the Starlight Carnival I remembered my childhood when I beat the Labyrinth zone for the first time ( I think that it took some months, Sonic was one of the first games that I played in my life after Atari and Labyrinth zone was f@cking hard :P ) and in screen appeared that starry sky with that awesome music.

I just say stopped looking for the screen for some minutes listening the Starlight Carnival theme, this is what I call a good nostalgia :)

Sonic Generations because of the nostalgia. The levels and re-designs were excellent. The music was even better.

Sonic CD 2011, because and I quote, "it's fucking awesome". I mean, playable Tails along with the US & Japanese soundtracks. Always invokes a happy emotion when I play it whilst listening to that wonderful music.

Sonic Generations invoked some pretty strong emotions in me. Specifically Classic City Escape.

Sonic Adventure 2 is what got me back into the franchise so I've always been pretty nostalgic about it. When Generations was first announced I got really excited but I have never been as pumped for a game then I have been when E3 came around and we were shown Classic City Escape. Everything about it just blew me away. The stage design, the background, the colors, the music, everything just looked fantastic. I'm twenty years old and Classic CE's reveal made me jump around and shout like a five year old who had just unwrapped a new console on Christmas morning. (Thankfully no one was home).

It's still my favorite stage in Generations and anytime I boot up the game I always make an effort to play it at least once.

Define, "recent." If you mean after the Dream Cast Era then there are several:

Sonic Adventure 2 battle: This is the game that really got me back into the Sonic series. My first gameconsole was the Gamecube and when I saw previews for it on television for it I knew I had to get this game. I even went so far as to go the mall just to play the demo they had in one of their stores there just because I hadn't saved enough money to buy it. LOVE this game. Yeah the camera was glitchy and sometimes had the bad habit of killing you but this game also had something few others have ever had: the trick system. I LOVE this system. It rewards you for pulling off awesome stunts and my god some of them were a challenge. Still, the satisfaction of seeing a Perfect or Awesome on the screen- you can't help but smile and think "Yeah, you're right I'm that awesome!" Story was also pretty cool and I liked many of the cutscenes. Oh and of course I can't forget the chao. Yeah spent many hours raising those little guys, and have several with some killer stats. Overall this game makes me smile and so far few other Sonic games have really come close to capturing what this game has for me. Still there are a few others that have come real close or caught my attention another way.

Sonic Rush: My god this game is addicting. At one point I started trying to speed run several of the levels. I NEVER speed run. Still it was just too satisfying to own at leaf storm. Alas this game is short but it has a certain charm to it that I can't shake off. Also, a version of the trick system returns! This time, however, it's a little more helpful and rewards you by filling your boost gauge. YAY!

Sonic Unleashed: Despite all the negative things people say about it I still enjoy this game. I find the art style perfect for Sonic and the story was cute and charming. Also, THOSE CUTSCENES! My god this game has some of the most gorgeous cutscenes I've seen in ANY Sonic game. True, Shadow the Hedgehog had some really pretty ones as well but then the in game ones sorta ruined it all. It was pure eye candy and I loved every moment of it.

Sonic Generations: This game is just pure nostalgia, simple as that. Still, it's a good nostalgia, and seeing as the control system had improved since Unleashed it's a lot more enjoyable to play. And, once again, Trick system. Yeah it's a really dumbed down one but I'm just happy to see it there.

Sonic Colors. It started with Starlight Carnival. You know that one moment in the very beginning of Act 1 where it starts off looking normal and the camera flips upside down to show that Sonic was on the ceiling the whole time, and then right after that we watch him run outside only to be held up by a small path of light that's guiding him through a massive fleet of colorful spaceships?

I cried tears of joy that day.

Sonic Heroes came out when i was 16, which was at the very height of my Sonic-mania (or at least the highest it had been since i was about 8 years old), and the sheer joy i felt at the time over getting to play a brand new Sonic game was extreme. I most vividly remember the first few hours of playing the game, excatly what i felt at exactly what moment. Probably the biggest moment of them all was when i first came to Casino Park and for the first time heard this wonderfull music:

It somehow felt nostalgic even the first time i heard it, and now it feels so nostalgic i could almost faint from happiness overload when i hear it.

Oh and just for the record, i dont know what the hell is up with 0:2 either...
