What is the worst thing that happened to you in a sonic game

The rail grinding in Sonic Heroes, just trying to switch rails and failing. I really enjoyed playing that game until stupid Rail Canyon.

Well this didn't really happen in-game but whatever.

I had ordered Sonic Unleashed and was just waiting for it to arrive. I was really excited because I had heard good things about it and the game looked like a dream come true after some of the previous Sonic games. Several days had passed and the game still hadn't arrived. We were going to our summer home for the entire weekend and I really wanted to try the game before that. The game still hadn't arrived and it was Friday. We were just getting ready to leave and I decided to check the mailbox just to see if there would be anything of interest. And there it was. Right there. The package I had waited the entire week to get my hands on. Sonic Unleashed was finally here! ...aaaaand I didn't even have enough time to take the game into my room because we were just leaving. I just had to take it with me. And boy was that a long weekend. I spent almost the entire time just reading the manual or admiring the boxart. Back then I didn't even have my own TV and when we finally got back home mom started to watch some weird dance program. >.> It lasted only for like an hour but it felt like an eternity back then. tongue.png

I beat all of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, only for my memory card to corrupt thanks to my sister throwing it in a Slurpee. I had to start all over again from the beginning.

- Getting all Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 2, jumping and activating Super Sonic after I past the goal post and getting stuck.. meaning I had to reset

- Somehow managed to make the goal post flip once it landed this one time on Sonic 1 Master System and never figuring out how I did it

- Robotnik refusing to catch me as I fell into the lava pit on the first boss in Sonic 2 Master System

- Gathering my friends to show them I could beat Sonic the Fighters at the arcade...... only to lose to Bark

Sonic Colors. Okay.. not that... tongue.png

Sonic Adventure... I FINALLY beat Egg Viper (after so many deaths) just to fall to my demise AFTER defeating the boss. That hurt. SO. MUCH.

Silver's broken two-hit kill technique. Just... what, man. I know you take down demigods and stuff but c'mon, that wasn't even in the expanded universe yet back then!

Also, that Titan Boss in Skyscraper Scamper Night. If he hits you with his hammer, guess what, that shockwave is gonna make sure Sonic becomes best friends with the pavement. As a New Yorker I refuse to be bullied by my home town's architecture!

Hmm this mint be hard to explain..

BTW This was in Sonic Generations, I transformed into Super Sonic in Modern Green Hill and I went inside of the cave where all of those bring rails were, I wasnt really paying attention to the game and I started skipping from rail to rail and I was going to skip into to a speed ring and I timed my jump wrong and completely fell off and the weirdest thing is my Super Sonic transformation ended as I fell down.

sorry if this didn't make sense but I meant grind and the auto spell check on my phone corrected it into "bring"

Eggmanland was certainly Sega's concept of Hell, a demented carnival that looks like it's in the gut of the underworld (look at that sky!), but they had plenty of checkpoints and lives right after the checkpoints. They knew it was going to be an uphill battle, so they were courteous enough to lend you a hand.

...definitely hate the twin Titan battle at the very end there. Oh god why.

My first time through Eggmanland for the x360. I don't know how many lives I lost, but they are many, probably about 40. What can I say? I kept falling off the roller coaster, falling into magma as the werehog, failed QTE's. You know.

After hours of stress, frusteration, and gaming that sorely tested my gaming capabilities, I arrived at the final two titians with my last life.

I engaged the titians. I gave my absolute best effort...and I lost. I died. I lost my last life. At the time, I did not know how to adequately counter their horribly powerful jumping attack, and when I tried to go behind them, they would still efforlessly whack me aside. I used all my resources, my unleashed guage, and shields...I defeated one titan, but then the second titan smashed the ground with his club and sent a shockwave I did not expect, and took the last bit of my health.

My last life: gone. After all that effort, to be so close, only to have it snatched away; all that effort, frusteration, for nothing. For a moment, I just stared at the screen in shock, then as reality started to set in, knowing I would have to go through that horrible level over again....I then proceeded to curse out loudly at my victorious enemy who just made all my struggling in vain. Not my best moment.

Worst thing that ever happened to me in a Sonic game.

Funny thing is though, when I mustered up enough courage to try the level again the next day, I went through it no problem, only losing one life. It's amazing what rest and a break will do.

Another funny thing is that after hours of practice, eggmanland is my favorite level in the game now. I've grown to love every part of it.

Like everyone else, it would have to be Eggmanland. But outside of that, it would have to be ARK levels from Shadow and the dealing with the game-breaking bugs in 06. Those tested your paitance to a boiling point as you would die not because you suck or not knowing what to do, but from the game taunting the player saying "You think your going to not get hit in Crisis City mach speed section? DONT THINK SO" and hitting the player with stupid cars or spending a dam HOUR finding/killing x amount of doctors/aliens in a gigantic level.

The worst part in 06 for me was Kingdom Valley, as Sonic I believe it was. Where you have to land on that jumprope. I always kept overshooting it.

Normally I dismiss camera complaints out of hand, but sometimes they are valid. :V

As I recall it turns out you can homing attack it though. So. I headdesked.

At least Kingdom Valley had the best mach speed section. No obstacles thrown at you, not robots standing in your way, just you running in a gorgeous local with waterfalls with the best track in the game blasting in your ear.

Sadly, the game has barely any moments of that caliber sad.png

Would've mentioned the Barrel and how it took me several years to figure out, but...oh wait, I just did.

Wave Ocean's Mach Speed section. I was eight at the time, and after playing SA1 for a few years straight, the controls messed me up. I must've gotten fifteen game overs (approx. 1.5 hours of loading time) because of that stupid loop at the end of the level. You know, the scripted one that if you don't hit it just right flings you into the ocean?

Also, all of the snowboarding sections in 06'. You know that ramp at the end of White Acropolis where you have to jump off of it to get to the goal ring? The snowboarding controls screwed me over at that part tons of times. And they had already gotten the snowboarding mechanic right before! Twice! ON THE DREAMCAST!

I thought I'd bump this thread due to something that's just happened:

So I put Sonic 3 & Knuckles in the cartridge slot and turn the Mega Drive on. When the Sega screen shows up, it glitches out (Rather than showing the Sega logo, it basically shows a wall of garbled crap) and the title screen sequence is similarly screwed up. Before I have the chance to do anything, the game resets itself as Sonic & Knuckles.

So I turn the Mega Drive off and give each cartridge a blow, before reinserting them. Now the Sega screen and the Title sequence play as normal so I press start, but once I go into the Data Select screen, I notice that the save files are different. Originally I had had 100% completed save files for Sonic & Tails and Tails alone. Now, I have three save files, the only one of note being one which shows me as having 7 chaos emeralds and being at Mushroom Hill.

I was intially baffled until I realised that the game had somehow received the save files for plain Sonic 3, and the Mushroom Hill save file was a 100%'ed Sonic 3 save. They work fine and everything, the thing is, now I don't know how to get my S3&K save files back. I don't know whether this is good or bad (Well now I have a reason to replay half of my favourite game)

But I'm pretty sure this hasn't been documented before. Is my copy of Sonic 3 a remnant of a Creepypasta?

End of the World. Silver and Shadow especially.

I'm actually not much of a full-blown "rage" person. In most games where I died at inconvenient moments, I usually just laugh it off and make jokes about how I fucked up. Labyrinth, the Underground boss, Scrambled Egg, Metropolis, Spinball, the barrel, Metal Sonic in Fighters, Final Fortress, Eggmanland... anything in most of the other games, no matter how frustrating, I would have a jolly good laugh, and try again with my best frown face.

Not End of the World. End of the World is different. Everything before that in the game - the Dusty Desert Billiards, Iblis Phase 2, the Trials and so on - was already building up to an infuriating climax, and End of the World was that climax. By that point, I was wanting desperately to just finish off Solaris, beat the game so I could legitimately say I did it and wasn't complaining about a game I never played, and then never play it again. But this level wasn't standing for that.

I had heard before in guides and others' experiences and whatnot about the Death Testicles, but I still wasn't prepared for how bastardly they would really be. They're everywhere, planted all over the place like a bad Mario fangame that abuses invisible blocks. Even if they have little tiny orbs appear for whenever they're about to show up, you won't be focused, because you'll also be dealing with the biggest wave of enemies, stopping the scenery from looking like the worst acid trip, and getting around your shit controls and/or glitches.

Tails' section isn't too bad, even if it takes a little time to figure out where to go. Then there's Omega, also not too bad aside from those pesky defeat-all-the-enemies sections. But then there's Knuckles, and despite being able to pull an easy win by repeatedly climbing and gliding north-west, the Death Testicles are usually placed just when you're about to finish climbing. Then Silver, my personal least favourite part of the whole routine, who has to avoid them with his slow speed and limited flight above sand, and then climb a never-ending tower with the Testicles placed even closer to each other than before. Then Rouge, who's section is a slightly worse version of Knuckles' despite being able to pull the same climb n' glide trickery (having said that, it's probably my favourite part of the whole damn level... which is sad). Then there's Amy, whose pathetic speed and jumping skills make her easy prey for the Testicles and other Iblis/Mephiles monsters. Finally, there's Shadow, who has to deal with the game's gimped grinding and ballsy homing attack chains. And Testicles on the walls. Very nice.

I never rage quitted, but I was so frustrated with this level, because I just wanted the game over and done with, and I wasn't allowed that privilege.

Here's a poem:

Getting rings in Sonic Adventure DX to feed my Chao.

I've 999+ rings from the Casinopolis entrance after 45 minutes.

I go to Emerald Coast to register the rings.

Sonic clips through a loop, thus loosing a life and every ring I've worked for.

Rage quit.

Finally realizing the shoddy effort at a classic game Sonic 4 was. Pretty much anytime I encountered and/or died in what was pretty much a hellhole of a zone/level for me (Wacky Workbench. Metropolis Zone. Crazy Gadget. Jungle Joyride Act 2), obtaining a Special Stage key and losing it via dying, running out of time in any Team Sonic Extra Mission, and all of the time I spent trying to get Episode I's Untouchable trophy.

Being rocketed into the chutes with the goal circles in the Sonic 1 special stage, barely recovering. I almost got the emerald when I then got sent straight into the Goal. It's my second least favorite special stage to date.

I wanted to finish Unleashed out of boredom. Got to Eggmanland.

Was on my last life while playing through it and got far into it. I lost the lives I got in it from the sliding platforms that I sworn didn't hit me.

Got to a section where there was some QTEs and slipped up on the last one and had to start over.

lolnope

One time when I was playing Sonic 3 on its own, I gained all 7 chaos emeralds and turned into Hyper Sonic duing Launch Base. Said superform lasted until the very last boss, when I lost the superform and all the rings I had. Then I lost my last life.

Right, so I'm in Lava Reef Act 2, making my way to the boss, with almost 300 rings. I grab a Fire Shield and fall to the boss arena and...

...nothing happens. Seriously, Eggman didn't even show up. All I could do was wait for the time to run out and start over.

270-SOMETHING RINGS GONE. ;_;
