Regarding NSFW/ecchi/whatever images.

We really need to drop this line of conversation that's talking about what's suitable for minors. It's not about minors but what level of sexual imagery the majority of people are generally comfortable with seeing, or risking third parties seeing, while browsing a website that has nothing to do with sexual imagery.

This is a Sonic site.

Minors are the majority.

I'm wondering why people are still discussing this. Rules are rules, if you wanna check to be sure, show your avatar to a mod.

That's true, but it's still not the point of the rule. If minors were the issue we wouldn't be allowed to swear or post grim news stories either.

I admit, that doesn't make too much sense to me either. I personally think that swearing just got so "mainstream" now, even with minors, that nobody even cares anymore. As for grim news stories, they show it on the news too.

I'm not uncomfortable around anything NSFW. But the point here is that most of the Sonic fanbase is too young for it.

Besides, where did you get pervert from? We're talking about pictures being NSFW, not discussing wether the users using them are perverts or not.

I tend to branch out unintentionally and I was responding to an earlier post.

Well, why should anyone care about suggestive pictures then either? How's it any different?

Anyway the point is... that it's not the point of discussion. Casual swearing in a post is not something that is very distracting or can be deduced from a distance if someone is in the room, whereas pervy anime pictures cunt be.

The beach ball obviously.

While the subject of the board is a children's franchise, I would say most of the core community is not, ranging from the late teens to middle/late twenties as a kind of general median. Also, we're not an official board, so this allows subject matter and language to skew upwards in terms of appropriateness than what would otherwise be suggested. All of this, of course, doesn't really dictate what's SFW and what's not.

Those are lovely earrings (I also don't think there is anything wrong with that one as an example, though; if I'm reading the OP right).

I think the term "A picture is worth a thousand words" is appropriate here, a picture is very easy to see from a distance, while words aren't. Plus like...meito said, the average user on this site are Young Adults who are mature enough to use mild language or when to swear.......most of the time.

Yeah of course, I wasn't gonna post an ACTUAL naughty one just like that lol.

What about my non-sega/sonic collection thread? it's full of anime T&A in figure form, although i did tell the posters to post soft stuff in spoiler tags so they're hidden from people not wanting to see that stuff, and it's at the mods discretion whether it's acceptable or not...

That thread actually came up in discussion when the staff was talking about enforcing this.

There are a lot of figurines there that are too racy to be posted, and even at the time it was created, I struggled with whether it was too borderline or not to do anything about. After talking about this with the mods, I think it's safe to say that these exact rules now apply to that thread. If you continue to post anime figurines there, you will need to consider how they fit into our standards of what's allowed on the boards.

Unless the staff decides otherwise, I'm not going to do a mass purge of the topic and only remove the most racier stuff, but this topic's rules definitely do apply for that topic as well from this point on.

As for that lingering question about why we haven't exactly enforced this until now, there are many reasons: sometimes we don't notice it, sometimes we glance at it and don't think too deeply about it, and sometimes we are just plain unsure. Yes, Soniko, you were right in that I have been to your profile a few times, saw that profile pic, and didn't take action because at the time I was uncertain about what to do. I brought it up with the other mods to see what should be done about it. Now that this topic has been created, not only should it be clear to the members who post here, but it also serves as a handy guide for us mods as well for what to look out for.

I always thought that in order to qualify as NSFW it had to show bare genitalia/boobs. Sometimes it's pretty confusing to say for sure if it isn't blatantly smutty like that. So does my avatar qualify as innapropriate for this place? I've had it for almost a week and nobody has complained to me about it (and I was thinking about keeping it) but I'll take it down if it is.

(although I've seen others with worse)

If I may propose something......

For Soniko's topic, what if the more racy things were posted in spoiler tags labelled NSFW or something? That way she could still sell her stuff, but then people could choose to not look at it if they didn't want too.

I would suggest you remove it, since it falls under having a very suggestive posture... and I don't think there are many pics out there that show both tits and ass without the blatant intent of turning on the viewer.

We kind of don't want people to sell those things here at all. There are other off-site venues where she can.

NSFW doesn't just stop at blatantly pornographic material. Anything that could be rationally seen as erotic or suggestive such as that Samus avatar* is fair game as being labelled as such whether or not nudity is involved; all in all, it generally comes down to subjectivity.

*No seriously, is that pose even possible for the human body?

Okay so I return after a few months of inactivity and walk into this? Really? Really, now?

The Sonic Stadium, I love freakin' love you guys, and I have for seven years now, but it's the stupid dramatic shit like this as of late that makes it really hard to appreciate and otherwise enjoy what used to be a rather radtacular community that was a fun-loving awesome paradise that was mellower than fifty shades of yellow.

Are we really stooping to the levels regulating slightly suggestive anime avatars now?

What the fuck happened to you guys? I remember way back in the days when the completely civilized and casual discussion discussion of sex amongst the forums was a-okay and 100% completely kosher, and now we're getting our panties in a twist over a little illustrated sideboob? Have we really stooped that low?

Also, what's with this sudden burst of sudden anal-retentivity and hostility between the users and moderators as of late? This isn't the first instance of this happening, and it sure as hell isn't how things used to be. I know you mods. I've seen kinkier shenanigans in your profiles than I have in any of those linked images. What happened?

To be fair as a total perv I miss the open-range sex discussion in personal chat myself but, lines have to be drawn somewhere. Up til today they weren't drawn with regards to avatars. Now they have been. It's simple as that really.

Plus I don't think anyone said anything was wrong with slightly suggestive avatars. I mean I'd say mine borders on slightly suggestive just for being undies despite lack of sexual implications, and I haven't been told off for it (yet? D=). Stuff like the Zero Suit Samus one and Soniko's old profile pic were quite suggestive indeed, Soniko for having so much focus on the butt (as well as the toplessness), and Samus for having so much focus on both the curvy regions IMO.

That's really bullshitty though. I can just as easily argue that Samus was fully dressed while your avatar is nearly naked.

EDIT: And I mean, not even allowing the chance of posting under an NSFW Spoiler is starting to stop being "eh we need some decency" and starting to be quite puritanist. She's not selling drugs, she's selling figurines? That are risque, yes, but not even by warning the readers (and therefore passing the responsability to them if they watch NSFW stuff) is she allowed to have her thread now?

As the first post outlines though, it's more about intent than actual raw content. For all her coverage, the Samus pic sure is a lot more detailed on the anatomy, and goes the extra mile to give a pose that shows off as much of the sexual areas of her body as possible. I mean it's a kind of cheaty excuse because I drew mine and thus have the "artist's insight" but mine isn't really meant to be anything other than cute "fanservice" as Jin put it. I do have a clothed version of the avatar actually but I just liked how this one came out slightly more thus wanted to show off that version. Anyway point is I sure didn't draw it intending it to be fap fodder for anyone, whereas you'd have to be kidding yourself to suggest the Samus one wasn't drawn with such intentions.

I mean I'm guessing that by how much I've posted here with no words against me that my avatar is within the limits of these rules for the reasons I've been assuming.

As for the figurines I imagine the easiest thing would be to just censor the risque ones a bit and then if anyone's interested in them they can PM for an uncensored pic to get a good look at it?
