"Students suspended after seeing topless pic of teacher on school-issued iPad"

ANDERSON, Ind. - Some students at Highland Middle School in Anderson have been suspended after their teacher accidentally synced a topless picture of herself to a school-issued iPad.

Joshua Troutt, 13, said he and three other students were playing a game on the iPad in class when one of the students pressed a button and a photograph of the teacher's partially bare chest was revealed.

"It's not our fault that she had the photo on there," Troutt said. "We couldn't do anything not to look at it, if it just popped up when he pressed the button. It was her fault that she had the photo on there. Her iPhone synched to it. She had to have pressed something to make all of her photos synch on there."

Anderson police said Thursday that investigators determined that the picture was "from the neck down, with partial exposure."

"Since the material was not pornographic in nature and no other criminal violation could be gleaned from the evidence as presented, the matter was turned over to the school and the police investigation closed," Detective Joel Sandefur said in a statement.

Assistant Superintendent Beth Clark acknowledged that the incident was an accident, and said the district's technology use policy was followed.

She said the students involved have been suspended and threatened with expulsion.

Troutt's mother said she doesn't believe that's fair.

"In all reality, you'd think (the teacher would) be fired. That's a nude picture in the school that the students saw," Nicole Troutt said. "(My son) didn't even touch the iPad. Another kid pulled up the picture on the iPad. He never touched it, period."

Clark said action has been taken against the teacher, but would not elaborate. She said the students' punishment will not be changed.

If parents disagree with it, they can appeal, Clark said.

Ok, let's get the obligatory "Stupid people" "I feel sorry for the kid" "What a slutty whore" comments outta the way.

In any case, yeah who the hell gives out iPads at school to begin with?

I'm quite a bit more pissed about "school issued iPads" than I am about any of this. What the fuck for?

it's the schools that allow people to do certain homework + classwork on iPads, my High School does this usually.

Or just play games on them in class like the like the kids in the OP apparently were.

I'm confused. Why are the kids in trouble for the teachers mistake?

Because they have to punish somebody to make it known that viewing that stuff on school equipment isn't tolerated, and they can't punish the teacher.

I can't even lie, it happens. :P

usually if they're caught playing games during class they take the student's iPad away, I don't know when they give it back because I've never had mine taken. (I don't even use mine, really. it's not hard to just do the work on paper or type it out if needed.)

BLAME THE PREPUBESCENT KIDS!

They're the ones who did it, they wanted to see pictures of naked people.

...

But seriously, this is like accusing a rape victim of rape, and the rape victim got locked up while the actual rapist got out with jack.

>Teacher takes topless pics and shows them to their students by mistake

>Student get the blame

Does this make sense to anybody.

Complete sense, I mean it's obviously the horny kid's fault /sarcasm

So many facets of this story are just ridiculous.

Rapists don't have a rapist union that can threaten the police with a strike or going to the press or whatever to force the police to back down.

Yeah, it's pretty shitty that the kids are getting blamed, but there isn't really anything else that a school can do in a situation like this.

Wow you guys are really surprised that they used modern technology in schools? Like, you know, schools always have?

Anyway yeah this is pretty fucked up. Like, what the hell was the thought process behind the suspension here. If there was one, I mean.

(Also how did they KNOW it was the teacher if it was just the neck down I wonder?)

Yeah, it's pretty shitty that the kids are getting blamed, but there isn't really anything else that a school can do in a situation like this.

Maybe they should practice the magical art of apologising to the parents for this obvious complete accident on both the teacher's and student's part and then... shock horror, doing nothing else because nothing needs to be done.

Or they could... threaten to fire the teacher and just warn the kids?

What kind of stupid freaking union gets riled up because of topless photos their teacher has? That's like having a murderer in the family, and not letting him get any reasonable sentence "because he's family."

I swear, some days I don't know why I don't just move to Canada or something.

Yeah? They're getting all the cool stuff we never got, I don't see why we should let them get off so easy. >=/

But yeah, general "what the fuck"-ery here and all that. I mean, suspension? Still would cause a fuss, but they'll be back in school eventually. Threatening to expell the kids for a teachers mistake? Now that's just flat out bullshit, and they know it. Kinda surprised they can't do anything about it.

Don't you just LOOOOVE America's School Systems?

In fact, its stuff like this that helped to influence why I chose to homeschool.

I'm surprised that they are wasting money on modern technology that is of less benefit in schools than something that costs less when schools across the country tend to be underfunded as it is, yes.

Zero tolerance means zero tolerance. Something has to be done to someone, because otherwise it wouldn't be zero tolerance. Something cannot be done against the teacher, because... well, come on.

I obviously don't agree, but that is the situation schools have been put into in the past 10 years, and that is what caused this.

Or they could... threaten to fire the teacher and just warn the kids?

Firing... a teacher?

She didn't have sex with anyone and she obviously has tenure, so good luck.

Once again, the school system shows to me how pathetic and ineffectual it is when it pours blame onto defenseless children for it's employee's shortcomings.

Not surprised at all.

What about punishing the teacher for clearly misusing school property? Oh wait, teachers are immune to having their bullshittery questioned by kids aren't they?

...please. do not mention that phrase, please.

Yeah, that is minor from what I have went through in high school.

I remember hacking the schools proxy right in front of my teacher...everyone else was pissed because they could not go on facebook in school.

Firing... a teacher?

Threaten.

I'm not anywhere near a teacher, so I'm just trying to remember which punishment works the best at my dad's school.

Threaten.

I see your "threatening a teacher with termination," and raise you "hostile work environment for educating," "unfair bias against female employees," "unfair intrusion on the private life of faculty" and/or "demonization of teaching staff to fight against future teacher's union goals."

And I've seen firsthand the 1st and 3rd thing happening. Schools really can not do things against tenured teachers for disciplinary purposes without getting approval first in all but the most extreme situations (sex with students, fights with students, etc.). We're extremely lucky that such freedom is so rarely abused.

Accidents happen... I don't think the teacher meant to share, and I don't think the kids looked for it either. I don't think anyone should be punished.

Accidents are accidents, and as long as they learned from it and make sure it doesn't happen again, I'd say it's all good.

The fact that the school punished these kids is offensive. If I were the teacher, I would defend the kids since if she didn't make this stupid mistake, they wouldn't be in this situation.
