Popular and unpopular Sonic opinions you agree and disagree with!

Speaking of the Game Gear this is probably an unpopular opinion but I really, really don't like any of the GG Sonic games. The gameplay bores me to tears and the music, while just okay at times, is mostly comprised of bleeps and bloops. This is why I've never beaten any of the Sonic platformers released on the GG nor games like Sonic Drift and Labyrinth. Even the Tails games are bleh. All these games are so boring!

I dont like any of the old 2D. i only kinda like Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Sonic Chaos was a shitty game.

I'm not big on the Game Gear games, either.  But they're all right.  The main thing that sort of vexes me is how there's no easy-to-access (in theory) special stages to get the Chaos Emeralds and the fact that you can only collect one ring after losing them all.  Also, the bosses are nigh impossible in some of them and ridiculously easy in others.

I will commend them having more upgrades than their Genesis counterparts (having a short-lived hoverboard in Chaos, for example) and being the first games where you can actually fly as Tails.

I found Sonic Chaos to have a very lackluster ending (or more appropriately, no ending). Got all the Chaos Emeralds? Great! Here's the credits! What? You were actually expecting something beyond credits for getting the Emeralds? Too bad!

Thus, I agree that Sonic Chaos could have been better. The (lack of an) ending pretty much wrecked whatever enjoyment I may have gotten out of it.

There were a few thing I like about Sonic Chaos

Sonic

Turqioise Zone and its music

Sleeping Egg Zone and its music

Electric Egg Zone and its music

Final Boss and its music

Other then that I think the game is shit. But at least it wasnt as shitty as Sonic Advance ;p

The answer is...With or Without detail?

Classic Sonic games Overrated...what exactly in or surrounding the games are bad enough to make you say that?

Sorry, I was just trying to get to my point. ^^"

Well, I try to say the overrated thing more respectfully than intended. It's just most people I see are always praising games like Sonic 1-3&K whenever there are a whole list of other Sonics out there that can be argued to be much better. It's more of a matter of opinion at that point, but really it's just that some fans will act like they're the best games in the series, which they're really not. Again, a matter of opinion overall. I can't really judge classic games, since I never enjoyed and rarely played any of them, but I just see loads of fans going on about them on and on again.

Sonics current english voice actor to me is the best Sonic. he makes Sonic sound young but so much personality.

Makes Sonic sound young? With a lower voice? I have to disagree. Sonic sounded much younger with Ryan Drummon, youngest sounding Sonic was Jaleel White (because it's Classic Sonic - Duh!). To me, Roger just makes Sonic's voice too low, just doesn't sit well with me. :/

but really it's just that some fans will act like they're the best games in the series,

Because they are.

Okay, I'm not going to be like that.  I love the games and they're my absolute faves, but I do think that the other 2-D games are fantastic as well for their own reasons.  I don't think there's anything wrong with finding the other games better, but I don't think that makes the older games overrated.

As a bit of a nitpick-

HAVING A LOWER VOICE DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MAKE YOU SOUND OLDER.

I don't mean to sound firm, but Sonic still sounds his age.  He just sounds like a teenager with a lower voice.  (Which isn't really that much deeper; people are acting like sounds like Morgan Freeman or something by comparison)  I'd actually argue that he does sound a lot younger with Smith than Drummond.  Drummond sounds like a high-pitched 20-year-old.  Smith sounds like a deep 15 year old.  It's not just in the tone of the voice, but also in the way his voice projects.

Granted, I love Drummond and Smith equally, but I don't think it's without merit to say that Smith sounds younger even with a deeper voice. ^.^

My dear lady, are you implying that Sonic with Morgan Freeman's voice would not be the single most awesome, sexy and terrific thing ever?

Unpopular(ish?) Opinion:

As Sonic 06's plot may have its load of short comings, from Sonic being absolutely useless compared to other characters in his own damn game, to a Princess who gets kidnapped at least half a dozen times, and a villain plot that's completely redundant and arbitrary when all he has to do is murder Elise to release the flames of disaster, there is one thing I can say it got right, and is one of the few saving graces of it: the ending.

Just_smile_.jpg

Sonic and Elise's relationship, while painfully bland and one note, came to a nice close at the end when Sonic tells Elise to "just smile." She lightens up and blows out the flame of disaster, causing the events of 06 to sort of be wiped from the time stream, although it still happened in a sense.

hqdefault.jpg

We later get more beautiful CG imagery of the Soleana festival (although I do agree the art style is out of place and does not fit in a Sonic game), with everyone enjoying the festivities and having a good time. Elise is reminded of Sonic's prescense, which is a bit of a touching moment.

LeoSantos_Sonic_01.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CAC

We finally get a beautiful shot of Sonic gazing at the moon (wtf isn't it blown in half though), complimented by a very touching musical piece to add to how effective this ending is.

I feel 06's plot is awful as a whole, but I'm glad it at least had the decency to write all of its stupid moments away. Not many games do that. I wouldn't say it's my favorite ending in the series (Unleashed would obviously take that spot), but it does a good job wrapping up the plot, if I do say so myself.

XD I couldn't contain the laughter.

Unpopular: Ryan Drummond sounded the best, out of all of the VA's. (For Sonic : P)

I really think that even to this day his voice holds up. It all lies in the production value, what most people look over. I'll skip this part and get to why I like him. He really brought a fun, energetic, tone. And when being serious he didn't sound like too much like his happier tone.

Yes, my nostalgia glasses ARE INDEED OFF. I fully realize even he's not perfect. But I still feel he's the best.

Edit: at the Morgan Freeman stuff. Couldn't contain the laughter at that.

Opinion: I think Sonic Generations, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic 4 are the greatest Sonic games to ever come out.

tumblr_mm03qjXmkL1rk931eo1_500.gif

omg omg omg 3 games I love!!

Sonic Generations is the greatest Sonic game ever! Lemmie tell you about Sonic Generations. Its the perfect Sonic game.... at lease in my opinion. Like Sonic 4, its a game for modern and classic fans. The story is a simple yet a little dark. Sonic has a birthday party and his friends get sucked by a horrfying monster cotrolled by not only Eggman but also Dr Robotnik. Sonic must save them. but he has Tails and his classic counterpart with him.

Modern Sonics gameplay as like unleashed but better. His boost is fucking amazing and it plows into the enimes and you need skills to master. You can get different powerups like super Sonicm unlimited boost and many others. Classic Sonic! fucking Classic Sonic. He suprised me. Hes amazing to. His spindash is badass its like the boost buts its a spindash and its fucking fast and his levels are fun. Plus you can buy the homing attack and it makes classic Sonic even more badass, You can also buy water sheilds and flame sheilds. Final boss was amazing challenging and I love how you can switch the music and you can beat Sonics friends in challenges. This game.... omg I love this game. Sonic was amazing

Sonic Unleashed. Oh!! Lemmie tell you about Sonic Unleashed. Another perfect Sonic game. This is my 2nd Sonic game I play. It has a good story. Eggman wants to wake up Dark Gia and while he and Sonic are fighting he drains the power (he was super forme) out of him and he turns into a werehog at night. He must stop Dr Eggman from taking over the world. And Chip! I love that little guy! Hes so cute and light hearted but hes helpful and he helped Sonic. Oh and the stages are amazing. Eggmanland night is my favorite along with Windmile Isle day and night, Dragon Road day and night and many others.

Oh the gameplay! The day-time gameplay was the best! Sonic has all his best moves like the homing attack and his speed. This game is where I got to play with the boost. You need to collect rings, perform action chains, and drift to fill up your boost. Sonic can also wall-jump, stomp and he can drift on corners. I like the drifting because it can also keep your speed going without stopping to avoid hitting corners. Sonic also can start with the spindash if you shake the wii mote at the right time and he gets an extra boost. He was simply a joy to play as and Sonic will always be amazing.

The night-time stages were awesome. At night Sonic changes into a warehog and has different moves. He is slower but not too slow, just right. In this form, Sonic still had the moves like an acrobat. He can spin on poles to go to high places and he can use his arms to go faster for dashing. Sonic can double jump and hang on ledges. He can also use fighting skills. He can punch and spin his enimes to the ground. He collects force called Gia force to be stronger and get more moves. Sonic can also grab monsters and slam them to the ground and he can even use them to get across to higher places. This gameplay was alot of fun and it was different and one of the best ways to show Sonic and his skills.

Sonic 4. Lemmie tell you about Sonic 4. Its amazing! Both Episodes.... perfect gameplay to me. My First 2D Sonic was Sonic 4. Both has a simple story, save animals from Eggman. And both has amazing gameplay. Episode 1 He was really fast and has his spindash. He also had his homing attack from the 3-D games I played. I liked the homing attack because it felt like the chain attack from the 3D games and I liked the sense of speed when I bounced off a chain to get to another side. It added a fun challenge. The spindash was really fast and it was good to roll up those 90 degree slopes. The boosters also added a nice sense of speed.

Episode 2 they add character, Tails was more than a follow me character, you can actually use him to help you through the game. He can pick you up and fly to high places making it easy to avoid water pits and go to tops of loops to get those +1 life boxes. Tails can also combine with your spindash make your spindash stronger breaking through those tough metal walls. Also when you are Super Sonic you can break from it by calling Tails to help you. Speaking of Super Sonic, he was easy to control. Most games have uncontrolable Super Sonic but this game, he was faster but you had more control over the gold hedgehog, which also makes this game perfect in gameplay. Not only that the stages, soundtrack, bosses were all amazing

I respect your opinion but I don't see how Sonic 4 Episode I constitutes fast at all.  It's probably the slowest game next to Sonic Labyrinth to me.  It feels like a force of wind is holding me back at all hours of play.  Pretty much every other game was so fast that it was almost a problem.

Sonic 4 is a fast game. I play it everyday and I go really fast. Its rolling and dashing that does the trick.

Neither of the Sonic 4 Episodes are really "slow" per se. It's more to do with the control being stiff and sluggish, you can go fast and the jump dash allows for speedy movement, as well as all the speed the games force upon you with liberal use of dashpads.

If you want a slow feeling Sonic game, play Sonic Blast on the Game Gear, jesus christ that game, that game.

Heh. That's a good one.

But seriously, the only thing that made me fee "fast" by Sonic standards to me was the dash panels, which were ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Dude, Im not fucking kidding. The game really is fast. I post gameplays of this shit. I was really fast in Lost Labyrinth Mad Gear and Casino Street.

Okay, but don't use rolling as a example of a way to gain speed when that thing literally breaks the flow and speed of the game in episode 1 and even in 2 to a extent.

Concerning Chaos, I think it was pretty good in terms of engine and cosmetics, the engine is probably the best of the 8 bit titles and the art and music is perhaps the closest to replicating the charm of the Genesis titles. In terms of execution though, it feels slightly bland. The levels are WAY too short, and some feel a tad empty (though ones that have gimmicks such as Sleeping Egg's block bouncing hold up well). Tails has fly, but in a more finicky method than the later games and his game is more limited than Sonic's (half the challenge of the short levels is trying to get enough rings for a special stage, something Tails can't do). As said the ending is also a cruel cop out.

Sonic 2 and Triple Trouble probably do a better job in terms of level designs, though have their own share of problems (eg. Sonic 2's absurdly cheap difficulty spike and Triple Trouble's 'flicking random notes' soundtrack) and to me lack certain polish and charm here and there, though Triple Trouble may have won if only it had a Master System release (playing on the Game Gear resolution just feels too cramped for me).

Unpopular opinion: Sonic Labyrinth wasn't that bad. It's hardly a classic, but it's something new and is fun for a short play. The soundtrack is also very Ear Wormish, especially the first level theme.

Well the fans going on about the games is not what makes games overrated, its how they show their actual opinion on the game..."With or Without" Bias or Ignorance of the games flaws. The Classic games no matter how any one person may feel about the games themselves, they are still of the highest quality of Sonic games with solid level design and game-play that still holds up(which may be a given for 2D platformers from the 90's)...its technically true to say they are the "best"in the series..but erasing the opinions from that thought process and it only refers to their actual game design as a whole.

The Classic Trilogy are the best designed games in the series, but that doesn't stop anyone from disliking them and liking the later games in the franchise more.

Opinion: To be honest, Sonic Advance and Sonic 2006 ruin playable friends for me.

I love Sonic 2006. its my 6th favorite game. I love Sonic and Silver as playable I want them to come back. But what I hate was not enough Sonic. This is my first Sonic game I play in 2008. I play and I though Sonic was amazing. I wanna see more of him but I was sad I didnt. I want more Sonic and i didnt get that. He has personality in the game but I saw more everyone else then Sonic. I love Silver alot but I dont wanna play with him in SONICs story!

Sonic Advance he has no special moves no nothing. Plus the game was shitty in my opinion. One of the worst I played sad.png

Yeah because of those games I dont care about playable friends. I want my favorite characters to come back if they treat Sonic with respect

Advance 1 can't be any worse than Advance 3.

Sonic Advance 3 is a eh game. I like the pairs and the gimmiks and that save the game from being horrible. The spindash was still useless and the momentum was shit
