Popular and unpopular Sonic opinions you agree and disagree with!

Well, this might be a good time to mention an UNpopular opinion I have - Labyrinth Zone doesn't really bother me that much, it's my least favorite zone in the game but that's not saying a lot. It's frustrating and annoying sometimes, for sure, but I certainly don't hate it. And I'm not exactly sure why, even. I guess I enjoy many of the challenges it offers and find it satisfying to play. It's not GREAT and can certainly be a pain sometimes, but I actually think it's pretty alright.

To be honest, I like every single zone in Sonic 1, period. I hear people complaining about Marble Zone all the time, but I like it pretty well myself. And Scrap Brain Zone is actually really fun to me, you have to stay on your toes every moment, and in a sense that almost captures the "feel" of Sonic even if you can't go fast all the time. I'm not gonna say it can't be frustrating, but overall it's so intense and great.

Actually mang, jumping makes you move slower when you're underwater. That pressure...it kinda ruins the momentum you'd be building up if you just stayed on the ground.

Hoo boy...I could write an essay about my unpopular Sonic opinions...

Sonic 1 is mediocre, though I enjoy the style of the zones and the music.

Sonic 2 is only slightly better.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the second best Sonic game (right behind SA2) and is one of the best 2D games of all time. Significantly better than anything Mario has ever done (and I enjoy Mario quite a bit).

Sonic Heroes was fantastic.

Shadow the Hedgehog was my favorite game for my teen years and is still highly enjoyable.

Sonic 06 was an enjoyable game and I loved the story.

Sonic Unleashed's Werehog stages aren't that bad.

Sonic Colors...is kind of bad. The DS version is particularly bad. The wisps are the worst thing to happen to the franchise with the exception of Black Knight.

On that note, Black Knight is far and away the worst Sonic game. It's the only one I cannot find redeeming qualities in besides some of the music.

Secret Rings...could have been worse. I enjoy it well enough.

I would love a sequel to Sonic Chronicles with a better battle system.

Silver's alright as a character.

Sonic Freeriders is fun when it works right (some days are better than others for me for some reason)

Lost World was good except for the 6 Deadly Stereotypes or whatever.

Sonic 4 (both episodes) were good.

The Sonic Boom games are enjoyable, so long as you keep in mind that they're spinoffs and aren't meant to play like the others.

Sonic X is an incredible show and edges out Sonic Boom as the best Sonic show ever. It's one of my favorite cartoons of all time.

The other day, I decided to watch the cutscenes for Sonic and the Black Knight just to see what all the fuss is about. (Not really interested in ever playing the game, to be honest.) As a result, I've gained the popular opinion that Sonic's characterization in it is quite good, but also gained the unpopular opinion (well, I'm sure it's popular in some circles, really depends on who you ask I think) that the overall story isn't that great. Not terrible by Sonic standards, certainly, but I don't know. It just didn't quite gel with me.

A lot of it is that I just can't get behind the premise at all. Sending Sonic to another world completely unrelated to his and with none of the same characters or major concepts, except that some of the characters look like ones he knows...why? Especially considering what world they chose. Sonic and knights and swords...why? I mean, if there was a Sonic-y twist with the enemies being robots or chaos emeralds playing a role or whatever, it would be a lot more acceptable, but nope, it's a different, unrelated world. It just seems random and unnecessary to essentially plop Sonic into a completely foreign world that doesn't even share any notable thematic similarities with his own.

But beyond that, none of the new characters they introduce are interesting at all. Like, aside from Caliburn, they don't really have much personality. This drags down the story a lot. I'm also not really a fan of Calibun, his design and concept was too silly to take seriously, and his supposedly mentoring personality was just a sham to show that Sonic was right all along. I don't hate him either, but eh.

The story was also kinda confusing in places too.

Spoiler

I still don't exactly get what Merlina was doing, and King Arthur was an illusion all along...???

Add to that, I think they tried a little too hard to paint Sonic as the ultimate right-about-everything guy, which I don't like. Also, I kind of thought the themes were handled weirdly. I mean, it's nice that you're putting themes into your story, but I thought that they were simultaneously too forthright about them and didn't really develop them.

It's not awful by any means, and I did like the twist with who the true villain was. But at the end of the day, I really didn't like the concept behind the story and it wasn't executed quite well enough to make up for that. It's competently made, but it's not my ideal Sonic story by any means.

The Modern verse of Sonic is what I grew up with. It's pretty much the visual style I associate with Sonic. I think of Sonic being tall, vaguely humanoid with green eyes. It's not a preference thing, I have always had a great reverence for the striking visuals of the Mega Drive games, but the post-Sonic Adventure designs of Sonic and his supporting cast are just what I consider normal for this series. But recently I kind of realised sonething.

They're shit.

Okay, that might be overreacting a little. But the Classic designs' recent revival in the Archie comics has absolutely floored me. The characters just look awesome, the jaggy sprites they were based on were brought to life with vibrance and so much rubber-faced character.

Comparitively, the Modern designs and especially the Boom designs just look awkward. Ignoring the Boom designs' needless accessories and of course, its portrayal of the Echidnable Hulk, there's something just off about the modern designs. Everything on the characters is elongated and oddly shapen, lacking the simplicity of before. I feel more subtle expression has been limited, and the stretchy limbs make expression when it's used look awkward. There is a flatness to the colours and an overuse of red. Classic Amy featured next to none of the colour at all, and despite looking EXACTLY how you'd imagine Sonic in drag, I greatly prefer her original look for having more colour. Green!

Ah, screw words. Look at this shit. It's incredible. I want this back, man. I don't have the nostalgia some of you do, but Classic Sonic has just such a halcyon quality to it, the designs are just great on the eyes, much moreso than the Sonic we've known so much longer I'm starting to feel. Granted, hyperbolic effecr aside, the Modern designs are fine. Serviceable even, if I'm feeling generous. But this is better. And it kind of kills me that for almost twenty years, ain't broke has been fixed.

I can't say I grew up with Modern Sonic since I haven't been a Sonic fan for that long, but the Modern design was the only one I knew until getting into the games. I also feel that the Classic Sonic artwork is way better than Modern, but I don't think it has anything (not much) to do with the design changes in general. It's the artist's job to give characters good expressions and poses that capture what they are about. Someone once said that the Modern designs are less expressive than the old ones but is there any reason why they couldn't make stuff like in that image with Modern designs? I mean, the only differences are in the proportions and the eye colors. They just focus too much on either his cool side or his relaxed and cocky side, while forgetting about his energetic attitude in the recent games.

When it comes to the actual design changes, the biggest "problem" is the lack of the beautiful simplicity. But perhaps the point isn't really in simple designs as opposed to overly complex Modern designs (seriously, the only more complex thing are the irises). It's more that the Classic designs capture the characters' personality better, especially Sonic's with his CD/OVA look. His round body goes hand in hand with his round head and it looks like it can be drawn quickly with a simple stroke. his spikes are more upward, signaling his speed and they also look like they are made of a few quick lines. They are more solid and sharp, as opposed to Modern's more flexible ones.

In the end, it all comes down to what feel the artists are putting in their work. The spikes, eyes and body proportions could be just slightly changed to fit Sonic's attitude better. For example, compare Sonic's X look and '06 look, they feel way different while having the same elements. And not all of his Classic art really captures his personality like the ones in the Megadrive comic. The only "better" thing his Generations model has is that he's cuter, which is of course a matter of taste.

But I'm no expert at this kind of stuff. I'm just a guy who thinks a bit too much and has some interest in drawing.

Honestly, I grew up with the Classic designs, and I have nostalgia for them.

But as far as which one is better, I'm going with the modern looks. I prefer detail over simplicity, and there's much more energy to the designs, mainly in eyes, and I like the much more "cooler" look compared to Classic's cuter look. They look much more athletic, flexible, and experienced, and much more striking when they look back at you. That and I like to think of Classic Sonic as his younger self while Modern is his older self ever since Generations.

Expression-wise, that has nothing to do with either look. I've seen both modern and classic designs in all sorts of manners that either one can be as awesome looking or fugly depending on who draws them. But at times, I'm more a fan of the not-so-over the top expressions that the Modern designs have compared to the Classics which do more of the exaggerated emotions by comparison.

One of the things I'm lowkey amazed by here is the love for the Game Gear games. Every time I've attempted to play them, I cannot bloody stand them. The music is tinny, the level design is weird, the physics are odd, and I just cannot get into any rhythm with them (not helped by the fact Sonic 2 seems to want to cause me emotional harm with its difficulty curve). And Sonic looks like a weird little guy, he's a dumpy little angry faceman.

maxresdefault.jpg

Genuinely curious about what people like about these games, because I can't see it.

I think it's important to remember the technology they were dealing with. Objectively they had a lot of problems, but at the time, being able to play those games on a handheld was incredible, which I think led to feelings of nostalgia.

Personally, the GameGear game was my first 2D Sonic game, so I have that nostalgia myself. I do think they're still fun, but I certainly understand the problems you're mentioning, and given the technology of the time, they were pretty incredible.

Not really sure how well received Sonic Lost World is around here because I wasn't around when it was released but anyways

But it has to be the most "What, why and how?" game I've played in the series, even Sonic the hedgehog 2006 gives context to what's happening but after playing this game on PC in both English and Japanese to see if I can make sense out of it I just can't aside from a few dialogue changes here and there, the whole game just feels like a mish mash of ideas drawn from the hat and added to the game. The cutscenes all feel so isolated from each other, Sonic and Tails are arguing with each other, okay, where does this lead to? No where. Why are the Zeti interested in draining the planet below? How was the Lost Hex found? Did Knuckles and Amy need to be here other than "Look fans, we're adding other characters into the game again!" Among other things, by the time I got to Sky Road I just thought, well the writers don't care, so why should I?

Deadly Six are bad as well and not just because they're villains - Let's have Zeena remind us she's a girl, Master Zik is old so let's just have him constantly tells us, Zomom is fat so he should bring up food.

Speaking of levels, they didn't do much for me either, a lot of them with the tube level design just gave the illusion of alternate pathways, you're still traveling along the same distance of tube only on the underside. Levels also feel very disconnected from each other as well, Oh look a honey comb level in Desert Ruins for some reason and a candy level too! Why does Sky Road Act 4 look like it belongs in Desert Ruins? Did they get the levels mixed up? A Casino level without any snow in a snowy world? Sure, why not? Why do most of the levels look so flat anyway?

I guess the tl;dr of my 'opinion' is the game is a huge mess, it's not the most awful Sonic game I've played but I don't think I'll be replaying it anytime soon. If anyone can help me out understanding this game I'm all ears and I'm not being sarcastic, generally interested in the lore or design choices with this game and if anyone can provide more info that would be lovely!

@BradAric

If you liked the Gamegear games a ton you should try out the Master System versions if you haven't already, the Game Gear ones are ports of those and they don't have that annoying screencrunch.

@Hyp3hat

As said before the gamegear ports really don't do the Master System games justice.

I have every intention of adding a Master System and all the Sonic games for it to my collection at the first opportunity I have. My goal is to get every platform a Sonic game has ever been released on as well as each Sonic game on said platforms. Must admit though, I haven't found a lot of the Master System versions when doing brief searches online :/

As for Lost World, I think they were really trying to reset to the classic style while also including some sort of supernatural enemy like the Adventure series while also using some aspects of Colors while making everything generic enough to appeal to kids...etc etc. They were attempting to please everyone and kind of just messed up everything. I mean I enjoy it well enough, have all the Chaos Emeralds and whatnot...but I think it's indicative of Sonic's problem as a franchise; they've created a bunch of different types of fans and they keep trying to please all of them. My biggest hope for the new game is that they come out and say "this is what Sonic is from now on." Some will be happy, some will be upset, but they need to just pick a direction and stick with it.

@BradAricThe Master System games mostly were Europe and Brazil so finding them in the US is hard unless they were imports or lucky to have Sonic 1. So somewhere like eBay or any online site from the UK, France or Spain, maybe Germany or Italy might have them with Spinball and Mean Bean Machine being the harder ones to find since they were late in the library. Sonic 1 and 2 shouldn't have too much trouble finding them since they were fairly common, have both of them. Sonic 1 and 2 also made it to South Korea as well but good luck finding them. Sonic Blast is Brazil only and might be the trickiest to get unless you know a Brazilian contact.

@Hyp3hat It's a weird thing as in that I agree and yet also disagree with your views. Some of the Game Gear games I have really enjoyed while others I'm not keen on playing. So a semi-popular opinion?

It is a popular opinion for handheld games to get skipped unless it is Pokemon, even titles such as Super Mario Land 1 & 2, 3D Land or Link's Awakening are usually ignored in lists. Not for me though who balances between console and handheld, plus at one point in my life handheld exclusive.

The thing with the Game Gear games are that early on were also designed for the Master System in Europe and Brazil while the US/Japan get the GG titles so they had to try to be balanced between the two. The Game Gear is pretty much a portable Master System with a higher colour palette and smaller screen space, the Master System itself is pretty much 1985 tech. So to have Sonic games working decently on the system when some arcade ports couldn't even cope (e.g. Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Double Dragon with sprite flicker) is a good thing even if it is more simplified different experience. It is why there are less enemies and smaller bosses due to the system limits while trying to keep it speedy. The physics have to be different since the system can't cope at all if they tried to mimic the Mega Drive physics due to the processor. They have less memory, less amount of tiles to use and most games are Sonic 1 or less in terms of space (with a couple of exceptions being at 1MB but they are either Korean games, Street Fighter II or Sonic Blast). Even one of the best titles on the system, Wonder Boy 3 only ran at 30fps with tearing. From what I've read somewhere, some of the Master System titles are different to its Mega Drive counterpart to appeal more towards European gamers at the time that would explain the different more explorer type of level design. Unlike Castle/Land of Illusion or Asterix though, it isn't as mazey and more straight forward with only later levels getting to that point and the Chaos Emeralds for the first two games. The sound while I do like the songs from the games is a popular opinion that the sound chip isn't much cop. Even with chiptune/VGM fans, very rarely you get praise from the Master System PSG since there isn't much range (only what Sega + outsourced partners did and Matt Furniss' work pretty much explains about 90% of that library). That's the technical stuff out of the way.

As for the games. Sonic 1 I didn't find too bad and is more of a no frills game even compared to its sequels feeling more of a Mario game (apart from Jungle, they have simplier backgrounds/foregrounds), there aren't any loops! There is a nifty auto scrolling stage rather like the Mario games (from SMB3 onwards). The special stage isn't bad and more for getting lives. I also really like the ending to the game. There is some slowdown though. Only really bad thing is the dodgy collision detection where you can get killed even if you are nowhere near an enemy/spike. That is pretty annoying. Bearing in mind that I've played the Master System version, the GG version adds the Sega intro, warning signs, made the first boss too easy and changes the Sonic sprite to try to combat the screen space. Sonic 1 isn't memories either since I've played it back in 2005.

Sonic 2 is a bad Game Gear port so I don't blame you for getting really frustrated. Very rarely I beat the first boss and that is through pause button abuse. It is a cropped version of the Master System version so it doesn't take difficulty balance into account and seemed to made the first boss harder being randomizing the height of the ball drop. So yeah, the Master System version is the only version of the game to recommend (even if you miss out on an extra song but you gain the Power Sneakers as a result). Even on a Game Gear, it would be better to use the Master System converter and a MS Sonic 2 cartridge. Yes GG can play MS games. Also it is one of the few Sonic games that doesn't start at a Green Hill type of level. It's like if the other Sonic 2 started at Mystic Cave Zone then Emerald Hill by Zone 4. Also it has unique bosses that isn't hit Eggman 8 times in a row. Sky High Act 3 is sort of impressive to look at even if it is just a simple trick and the one that was used to advertise the game. It was also one of Aspect's earliest titles (either their first or second) so for an inexperienced developer, they did a decent job with the platformer even though they had to do another revision for a workaround to a bad bug in Gimmick Mountain. Whoops.

For these two, I'll play them and enjoy these Master System games because they are decent platformers in general. The controls aren't too slippery or stiff. They are challenging but mostly fair. They are presented well having a clean look. I really like the choice of levels/level themes. Good balance between sprite size and the ability to see the level. The gimmicks aren't too annoying and fit with the level. The music is good for the weak sound chip and is actually catchy as well as lengthy (not many PSG songs can get upto 1:37 before a loop, something like Aqua Lake Zone is unheard of on most games that use the chip). Sure in terms of the Sonic scale, they aren't the classics however they are better than Sonic 4 (better physics) and some platformers that are out there. I just like the simplified experience.

From Sonic Chaos (aka Sonic & Tails) onwards, Sega decided to focus on the Game Gear more with the Master System being more of an afterthought and why it got a bit more polished on the GG side (tweaked music, better presentation compared to the Master System version, better difficulty balance). For some reason, Sonic Chaos doesn't gel with me. It's a solid enough game and someways it is better than Sonic 2 (you can play as Tails now, he can fly) but I rarely play it.

Triple Trouble is one of and perhaps my favourite Sonic game, not just the memories either and explaining why. The graphics are really well done being some of the best on the system (Tails Adventure is also another pretty looking Game Gear game, better looking than some Mega Drive games) with the detailed sprites, larger bosses and the stages themselves, even decent looking backgrounds. Apart from Pocket Adventure, Sonic Advance or if you play them on a Nomad/DS/Taxman ports/portable emulator, it is the closest feeling towards the classics on a handheld but yet does have its differences to stand it apart (the snowboard, the Sea Fox). There is variety in the Special Stages with only 3&K having more than one. The only flaw apart from a bug in Atomic Destroyer (the last stage) is that there is some slowdown when smashing blocks but can't be helped since it is pushing the system. Oh and part of Sunset Park Act 3 cuts out the music when attacking the enemies so only the sound test has the song in full but again limitations on a 4 channel sound chip. It's like the Game Gear's S3&K with a bit of Sonic CD (super peel out, Collision Chaos bumper reuse in Meta Jungrila and a certain boss) and pretty much the peak of the GG Sonic games. Also it didn't get a Master System version, not even in Brazil so the developers didn't have to think of palette limitations and the smaller screen size worked more into their favour rather than balance between the two consoles. There is a hack though. Oh and the box art for the game is also pretty good.

Even going as far as saying, if Triple Trouble was remade on another console it might have had a better chance of getting recognition.

Sonic Blast though. The only positive words that I can say it is disappointing coming from Triple Trouble/other Aspect games and Knuckles. Yes, he's in it as a playable character. It's a popular opinion that people don't like the game and surprised if anyone likes it (however would like to read their opinion since there might be something that I missed).

For Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, I actually prefer the graphics of this version compared to the Genesis version. Why? Due to that I feel that it has a closer look to AoSTH rather than the weird look Compile chose. Plus that it has an extra puzzle mode so it has more content.

Also a few of the Game Gear games were actually skipped and stayed in Japan until compliations (e.g. Sonic Drift, Tails Skypatrol). Whether it was marketing reasons or quality issues, I don't know. Sonic Drift wasn't too bad since it was an evolution from the Super Monaco GP games on the system but as a kart racer, it is fiddly to use power ups due to less buttons. As for Tails Skypatrol can't make heads or tails out of it.

8 bit Sonic 1 was okay if a tad basic.

8 bit Sonic 2 on both systems was a rather excessive difficulty spike, with a few obstacles being almost luck based (those randomly popping bubbles in Aqua Lake), though the Master System version was at least completable. Only shame is they took out the super cheery and adorable good ending music, which was a huge catharsis for soldiering through the entire game.

Chaos was fun but also felt dumbed down. I liked the engine but the levels felt way too short and simplistic. Both versions tended to have a pro or con over the other, where one had a good tune or cosmetic, the other sucked.

Triple Trouble was very refined for a GG title but to me felt very cramped and a bit slow and clunky. It felt a bit better to play through the Master System hack, which made it a bit of a shame it wasn't officially released on the console.

Mean Bean Machine felt really crude, like 'kid playing with MS Paint' crude. Yeah some of the designs look a bit more loyal to Aosth but they're still horridly drawn (what is up with Dynamight's face?). The only graphical bonus is that the backgrounds change unlike the 16 bit version. The music is also very basic and screechy compared to the awesome soundtrack of the Mega Drive version. It's odd because the Puyo game it's edited from wasn't nearly as stripped down, it even had some of the 16 bit version's music tracks and effects that for some reason 8 bit MBM took out (eg. the victory fireworks or the VS and Exercise themes). Puzzle Mode was a nice bonus, but it's one of the worst renditions of Nazo Puyo, due to the automated falling bean colours which means you're constantly having to restart after one mistake.

Sonic Drift 1 and 2 were developed on similar to Chaos and TT. Drift was rather basic and patronisingly easy. Drift 2 improved on that but added other issues that tainted the experience, most blatantly the rubber band AI which made winning a case of pure dumb luck.

Is "Sonic Unleashed is a pretty fantastic game despite it's flaws and is the most ambitious Sonic game since the Adventure games" an unpopular opinion?

Because that's what I think of the game. I recently wrote an article for a website detailing this.

DUDE! You're the one who wrote!

I would've set up a party and shit if I had known this prior, seriously man that was an awesome article! SSMB is your go-to place to praise everything Unleashed.

But you know what? I don't think this is unpopular nowadays, Unleashed is getting a lot of appreciation in the fanbase in recent times. Maybe it's because people got bored of joking about Werewolf Sonic GoW clone but I see a lot more praise for Unleashed, and thank god for that (and Jim Sterling son!).

Might be bias on my part since Unleashed (the PS2/Wii version) was my first 3D Sonic game and for that version, I liked it but now, I just find it alright. Nothing truly great and is pretty meh all the way through even if the Werehog stages aren't 15 minute marathons (even though if you avoided almost every fight, you could beat each stages in about 8 minutes lol) but everything about that version just feels less, and I guess it's because of the technical limitation of the PS2/Wii but then again, you got games like Colors (which looks MILES better than Unleashed PS2/Wii) and Shadow of the Colossus (just an overall better looking game, might actually play that eventually).

Unleashed HD is definitely a really big game. I mean, one thing Unleashed still holds pretty well in terms of its visuals. WHich can't be said for the Adventure games tbh, granted Unleashed isn't perfect either. There's the performance issues and some of the textures looks pretty choppy at times (from what I seen playing through the PS3 version) but overall Unleashed looks pretty damn great.

But I don't really see if Unleashed is actually ambitious, I mean going to different regions of the world and having these location be inspired by real world locations is pretty big. But not really ambitious since Adventure 1 already that latter part.

I don't know, ambitious is the wrong word. I think a statement like Sonic Unleashed was the game where Sonic Team really put there all into it or Sonic Unleashed is probably the best gaming experience in the series. But ambitious isn't really the word I would use to properly describe Unleashed.

I feel the game is ambitious for more than just the "world adventure" aspect though.

For one, the gameplay was very new for Sonic, both the daytime and nighttime stages. The Nighttime stages are pretty much like nothing we have seen in a Sonic game before, but the daytime stages managed to get these expansive, detailed levels working even despite how Sonic moves so fast. Which is a technical accomplishment, as Unleashed's levels are massive in scope and scale, much more so than in any other Sonic game. Heck, the complexity and size of the levels from the "Boost formula" games is apparently the very reason why Lost World ended up with the small, geometric shapes for levels, because they found it much easier and quicker to work with than having to make huge expanses.

The graphics are also ambitious without a doubt, because realistic Global Illumination was something that hadn't really been done in a game before. The only game off the top of my head that did it at the time is Mirror's Edge, but that game was released in the same month as Unleashed anyway, and also had much less complex and diverse environments, so I think Unleashed served as more of an ambassador for what Global Illumination could do for a game world.

And I do think the "world adventure" aspect did add to the game's ambition as well, because trying to represent so many cultures isn't an easy task. But Sonic Team managed to pull it off. Not only do the levels look so much like their real life counterparts, but you also have all of these townsfolk representing the culture too. They also have all of the food items and souvenirs you can buy, each with their own description, representing these cultures. The lore of the game is so in-depth, which is unprecedented for Sonic. And they did it in a way that isn't forced upon you to where it's overwhelming, and in a way that isn't tonally inappropriate for Sonic.

Combine all of this with the fact that Unleashed had the highest budget out of any Sonic game by far, and I think I easily consider Unleashed the most ambitious Sonic game since the Adventure games, maybe even since the Classics. They really went out of their way to make this a huge game with a ton to do, as well as a ton to take in and appreciate.

Wrote this in a status update but decided to write down my true honest, Sonic opinions. I also added more

  • Sonic is my absolute favorite character in the Sonic series. I love how he can be cocky and full of himself, but beyond that he's someone who cares about other characters and I want to see that side of him more often.
  • Personally, Sonic 06 is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. In fact, 06 is one of my favorite games in the series. The thing I like about 06 is the characters and it's sense of adventure. I also like the music and the different play styles. Sonic 06 was my first Sonic game I ever played and I loved Sonic ever since.
  • I personally do not like any of the classic Sonic games besides Sonic 4. I understand these games are good games, and I won't deny that. But they aren't my cup of tea. The reason I still play Sonic 1 2 and Sonic 3 and K is because I REALLY want to love those games. Especially Sonic 3 and Knuckles. I really want to feel the excitement of rolling physics but I can't bring myself to care.  When I play Sonic 4, it is a different story. I find the game to be engaging and fun and fast paced. The classics in my opinion are boring, however I know better than to shit on them.
  • Besides from a few levels and Flappy Sonic - Sonic Lost World in my personal opinion is not a horrible game. I personally think it's a really fun game and I enjoy playing through a lot of the levels. Especially HoneyComb road. I love Sonic gameplay when he isnt flying or snowballing and I love the character interactions in the game.
  • I hate Sonic Rush. I hate the level designs, I hate the music, I hate the cheap mechanics. The only thing I like about Sonic Rush is it's special stage music and ending song - those are the only two songs I like. The boost was.... OK but the boost doesn't work in 2D.
  • I don't hate any Sonic characters. I may not like some as much as others. But I can't bring myself to hate them.
  • Eggman Nega isn't that bad of a villain and he makes sense. I actually like how Nega has more bolts loose than Eggman does to where even Eggman questions his sanity. I want to see more of him in the future.
  • I personally think they should make Silver come from Blaze's world and that Blaze's world should be set in the future. Meaning the Sol Dimension is futuristic. They they have the same villain, so why not put them in one place?
  • Big the Cat is someone I don't care for as much. I mean I understand the appeal behind his character and his popularity, but I personally find him boring compared to my other favorite characters.
  • I kinda enjoyed Sonic Chronicles' Boss music, even if at the same time it pierces my ears.
  • I enjoyed Shadow the Hedgehog. Yeah it was funny but I found the game to be a lot of fun as well. I enjoyed the gunplay as well and the many choices of weapons.
  • I liked Sonic Free Riders more than the other riders series games. I liked the motion controls for that game way more than Secret Rings and the game was actually pretty fun and I love its music.
  • I am a boost fan but I also acknowledge it is a very shallow mechanic and has worn it's potential. But you know what? I'm gonna miss the boost. The boost has given me a lot of fun and speed with my games.
  • I really like Silver, mostly his gameplay and his personality is pretty much like mine. I can relate to him personality wise.
  • I actually really like Sticks, she's a fun character and actually fits very well with the main cast. I like her and Marine equally though and I actually want to see them meet.

Yea I think Sonic 06 was one of my favorite sonic games. Honestly I thought many of my glitch deaths were my own fault till i learned about the glitches and many times I had fun with some. Such as throwing the purple gem to bug out of the main hub map. The music was steller and I honestly love elisexsonic. Maybe cause i was born in the early 90s and grew up on shows with many human x creature relationships. Biker mice, gargoyles, street sharks, etc etc.

Not a fan of Elise x Sonic but people saying the game was promoting bestiality was people just tacking on complaints for the sake of it when this sort of stuff has been done before in many movies and Disney related things. I get it, the game is bad, everyone knows this, just say Elise kissing Sonic to life was lame no need to go to the extreme.

Where was the bestiality complaints when Princess Sara wanted to jump Sonic's bones?

No where

In all fairness, the Sonic OVA is pretty obscure outside the fandom. So you're not gonna see a lot of complaints about Sonic X Sara.

Not that the whole "OMG BEASTIALITY!" thing isn't extreme at times, but those making that case probably wouldn't know much, if anything, about Princess Sara.

Ahhhhh that explains it. Gonna bookmark this post so I know what to look for when I'm ready to buy, thanks! In the meantime, just got a Dreamcast in the mail, now just have to look for cases for SA1, SA2, and Sonic Shuffle haha (have the games).

This one is...just very obscure, not particularly popular or unpopular.

Regarding the Shijin Warriors (aka Dulcy, Bunker, Cinder and Jian), I've heard people be suspicious of Jian and ponder that she'll betray the team. I really hope that doesn't happen, because then they'd essentially be a discount Chaotix (in terms of personalities and niches in the team) and that'd be a shame for them, at least having Jian adds some variety to it even if she is Blaze without the social anxiety at the minute (and sword-tail instead of fire).

The treasure hunting is actually one of my favourite levels of the Adventure games. I was really shocked to find out that it's one of the most hated aspects.

I remember when I first started learning about game development, I actually tried to make a Knuckles fan game that was JUST treasure hunting lol. Was struggling with making it work (obviously, since I was like 12) and discovered this place only to find out everyone hated that aspect and decided it wasn't worth it, as much as I loved it. Also had designs going for a sequel to Shadow the Hedgehog...abandoned for the same reason haha
