While I love how Generations portrayed Speed Highway and Crisis City, I think it would have been cool if they had used Red Mountain and either Kingdom Valley or Dusty Desert instead.

Popular(?) Opinion: I think Hydro City should have been in Generations instead of Sky Sanctuary.

HD Water effects and remixed music.

Popular opinion:Secret rings could have been a better level choice than 06 in generations. Those levels were more wacky and fun and creative. I definitely could see more interesting gimmicks being used for those kind of levels.(classic sonic:using dinasours to get to higher areas,or using flying carpets)

Unpopular:I personally wanted to see silver be fought as classic sonic instead of modern. Lots of potential for creativity there with Silvers telekinetic powers.

I still think it would have been cool if you had an option to fight each boss as whichever Sonic you want to use. Obviously the fight would have been drastically different gameplay-wise depending on if you pick Classic or Modern, but yeah it would've been neat to fight, say, Perfect Chaos or Egg Dragoon as Classic Sonic.

All of this talk about Generations has made me realize that, indeed, the more we tend to talk about all of the cool stuff that could have been done with the concept, the more it all just feels like missed potential from a design standpoint. It's almost like an Internet law. My heart genuinely hurts for Hydrocity, and Sonic 3 in general, being so brazenly cast aside in it all. Boss representation on the 3DS version. Yaaaeeeee....

Perhaps in different locations for certain bosses. For Example: Silver(Modern):Kingdom Valley Classic:Castle Town

Wasn't Classic SSH pretty much that?

Generations is, at least for me, a pretty great game as it is ... but that just makes the missed opportunities even more disappointing, in a way. It's beating a dead horse at this point, but I would have been fine with a very light story if it meant more cutscenes like the post-Chemical Plant one.

You know, I'm happy with the boss choices in both versions of Generations. BUT (and here comes the (probably) unpopular opinion!) I would have much preferred Big Arms in the HD version. Part of it might be that Big Arms is a lot more nostalgic to me, but I think it's a better boss overall. Still, I guess the Death Egg Robot is a much more iconic representation of the bosses in the classic era, so I see why they went with it.

Not where it matters. That is, it doesn't look like Hydro City, not much focus is on the underwater sections, and (most importantly) no Hydro City remix! >:U

Also, I kinda wanted either Dragon Road or Cool Edge for Unleashed representation, mainly the latter because ice stages just seem necessary for the kind of anthology thing. Twinkle Park also would've been a fun pick- despite not being as iconic as Speed Highway- because it fills the casino/carnival trope really well and has go-karts. Frankly I think the level I was happiest with being represented was the Sonic vs. Shadow 2 boss, because For True Story is my favorite song from SA2's soundtrack. xP

I would have loved to have Dragon Road. And you know what other Unleashed stage I would have liked? Jungle freaking Joyride. <3

And I really wish Hang Castle could have been the Heroes stage instead of Seaside Hill. V_V

To be honest, I was never that bothered about what stages we got. I have my favourite levels like anyone else, but ultimately all I cared about was whether they ended up being fun or not.

But Jungle Joyride is already condensed perfection anyway (inb4 "Slowdown!!!") Also, it kind of muscles in on Green Hill's tropes and aesthetics that it's hard to justify JJ existing alongside it; same with freakin' Seaside Hill.

Hang Castle would have made me cry tears of joy and then buy a billion copies of the game.

EASY MONEY, SONIC TEAM.

Yeah well we could do that with any game really, it's just that Gens has a lot of wasted potential and it's kind of a shame.

Still a great game, but it could have been a million times better.

But.

But but...

But it was so good in Unleashed! D= They wouldn't ruin it like they did with the Egg Dragoon fight, would they?*

And just take out Seaside Hill and replace it with Hang Castle. As for Green Hill....oh, wait..... =|

*There's my unpopular opinion for the day, kids. I thought Egg Dragoon was shit in Generations.

You know what Egg Dragoon lacked in Generations?

Sonic actually tearing it apart with his bare hands.

And Eggman making threats to kill him considering that he's mega pissed-off at the world being restored and just wants Sonic to drop dead.

It is partially what made that boss so memorable in Unleashed.

Sonic is fast but he's not superhuman, I doubt he would be able to do that normally.

Egg Dragoon in Unleashed was definitely more badass, at the very least. I do enjoy the fight in Gens, but they could have done more with it considering it was the second-to-last boss.

The only stage choices I wouldn't have changed at all were Green Hill, Chemical Plant, City Escape, and Planet Wisp. I think Sky Sanctuary was a good choice too, but there's also Hydro City, that airship zone that's name has inexplicably escaped me, Lava Reef, maybe even Hidden Palace, all of which I would have loved to see as well. The rest aren't terrible choices, but they just aren't what I would have gone with, personally. I mean, Speed Highway?? Come on man, what about good ol' Windy Valley? Lost World? Hell, even Sky Deck would have been at least interesting and probably a lot more fun (and less frustrating ...) than how it was in Sonic Adventure.

Well, there's another (apparently) unpopular opinion of mine: I prefer Generations' version of the Dragoon.

I think all of the Generations bosses were missing the build-up and context that surrounded their initial appearances in the first place, nor were they served with any actual storytelling on the game's part. That's half the reason that they all feel so much lesser than their previous selves. Original Egg Dragoon is awesome in part because it is the final confrontation you have with Eggman, and in your Werehog form no less, the state he rendered you in so miserably at the beginning of the game. And as Verte said, you get to have some payback and tear it to shreds with your bare hands. The suspense of the boss is also aided by the fact that you are falling throughout the freaking Earth's core the entire time. A randomly selected chase boss around a metallic arena cannot compare to all of this.

This especially could've worked in Generations; by the time you fight the Egg Dragoon, the Sonics have pretty much restored almost all of the timeline, undoing the Eggmen's schemes in the process. I imagine he'd be pissed beyond belief at that point!

Unpopular opinion: Heroes has some of the most creative level tropes in the series.

Beach level, futuristic city level, casino level, canyon, jungle level, haunted house level, airship level.

I see nothing overly creative or noteworthy here.  Seems like quite a standard set of levels barring the haunted house one.  Literally all these tropes had been done before (again, except the haunted house one).
