Popular and unpopular Sonic opinions you agree and disagree with!

This especially could've worked in Generations; by the time you fight the Egg Dragoon, the Sonics have pretty much restored almost all of the timeline, undoing the Eggmen's schemes in the process. I imagine he'd be pissed beyond belief at that point!

I always thought that, judging by the constant "FREEEEEZE!!!!" and frantic talking, the exact opposite happened, in that rather than spouting out death threats, he was simply (even) more focused on just killing the hedgehog.

Beach level, futuristic city level, casino level, canyon, jungle level, haunted house level, airship level.

I see nothing overly creative or noteworthy here.  Seems like quite a standard set of levels barring the haunted house one.  Literally all these tropes had been done before (again, except the haunted house one).

I think it's the general color palette and the artistic design of said tropes is what makes it stick out. If you boil it down to what you listed, yeah it doesn't sound all that special, but the actually look of them really makes it stick out, at least among the 3D Sonic games.

I did like what happens after the egg dragoon battle in generations. Sonic just brushes some dust off and smirks. Just that cocky "nothin to it"Attitude there was so good. But still it doesn't match the epic confrontation in unleashed.

I reckon Heroes stands out because it was the first of the 3D Sonic games to have 100% full-on "Sonicy" locales, and - until Colours - was for the most part the only one like it.

Unpopular Opinion: I kinda feel the series has deviated a little too far from it's classic roots. I understand progression and all of that, but they've outright abandoned things that were staples and made the series recognizable to everyone. That's how I personally feel anyway.

Yeah, I can agree with that, kind of. It's mostly little things I miss though. For example, goal posts or capsules (which last  appeared in the Advance games, and only appeared in 3D once in Adventure)  have a lot more character than Goal Rings. I'm glad Colours had those Wisp Capsules at the end of some acts, at least. Maybe if Eggman goes back to using animals in his badniks we can see the capsules again?

Nah, I can understand little things like that. I always did prefer the Prison Eggs over Goal Rings, if only because I'm a sentimental fool who feels happy upon freeing little animals, and this sounds silly so I'll stop.

Well, dropping the "jump on top" style animal capsules was probably a good move, just because it's kind of fiddly to land on a relatively small platform to end the level, especially in 3d. That's the advantage of the goal ring, it's just, "touch this thing". Colors having you attack them was not too bad an idea, tho'.

Remember when SA1 had that jump cancel move that would send you straight down? It was actually really useful for jumping on them capsules.

I wouldn't mind the signs coming back. They eliminate the fiddly-ness of jumping on a capsule but are still iconic, and you can interact with them a little bit.

Well, I'd say the goal rings are about as iconic by this point.

...what happens if you run into the center of a signpost?

You run past it, ala Black Knight.

The characters interact with the signpost depending on who you touch it with.

Like when Sonic spins, does some cool pose, and calmly leans on the sign with a thumbs up

Oh, I'm not too adversed to whichever "end the level" gimmick we get; just throwing in another option.

Sonic knocks himself down and you get an automatic E rank.

And if you were already going to get an E rank, it becomes an E- and Sonic gets held back a grade? :V

Maybe put the capsule button on the side? Or put the whole capsule on it's side and Sonic just face-faults into the thing instead XD.

Why not just have him touch the capsule, then show him jumping onto it and freeing the trapped creatures during the "Stage Clear" screen?

Well, it's not really a big deal, but I think it'd be better if you had to have Sonic/other character attack it. That way you, the player, freed the animals (in a way :V) which is more satisfying than what would essentially be a cutscene.

I would have enjoyed either personally, because SEGA could have made the Goal Post or the Robotisizer look even better, and they do have the old-school challege missions. Where you have to juggle the goal post to the end of the level and free a set number of Flickies from the robotisizers in time.

I have a certain amount of sympathy for Classic Sonic, there was a hidden Trophy Room in Sonic Generations and you type in codes to unlock trophies. I unlocked the classic Boosters that were introduced in Sonic 2, but when I saw how little space was there for Sonic's round body to squeaze through made my sides hurt for a little while.

Unpopular(?) opinion: Sonic 4 Episode I's graphics were for the most part actually decent. Originality aside, the only zone I remember being a target of criticism was Splash Hill Zone for it's poor mesh of pre-rendered and cel-shaded artstyles and plastic-looking grass and water (which outside of a few waterfalls was severely lacking in). Episode I unlike Episode II also does consistently having geometric (albeit not totally wacky) shapes, and uses a lot of colors in each of their stages-even if it was as a result of recycling stuff from the Genesis games.

Unpopular opinion: Generations is utterly fantastic but it doesn't seem as good half the time as it is because of how it's presented (i.e. not brilliantly). Conversely, Unleashed has fantastic presentation (often cinematic at the cost of gameplay) which makes the game seem better than it really is. Colours kind of sits in the middle.

Also half the "missed potential" just boils down to "why didn't this level get in instead of this level".

Seriously, saying it could've been a "million" times better is such hyperbole that it's more to do with overhyping than what Sonic Team could have or would have delivered.

And Egg Dragoon was a lot better in Generations, you didn't have to just do a bajillion QTEs for half the fight and it used platforming skills with the wall jump and even sky diving as part of the battle. It's the culmination of Modern Sonic's skills. I would have picked the Egg Nega Wisp though!

Sonic in the 360 version was way too shiny, though.

Unpopular Opinion: Super Sonic can go chock on a wall of pixellated sausages.

Agreed. Can't they find something else to do with the Chaos Emeralds? Something that isn't plot-related that is.

In fact, I have an opinion that's related to this. I want to see a game where the Final Story can be played by any character, as opposed to just Sonic.

I don't mind Super Sonic or his role in general. I just wish he wasn't the end-game reward for doing everything, especially since most of the time the Emeralds are collected in the story. It makes no sense to me to complete every challenge the game has to offer just to give me the ever-archaic and boring "Broken" mode, when I've already gotten to a point in the gameplay long before then that has already prompted me to use him! Save Super Sonic as a reward for beating the final boss, and leave more interesting surprises for the end, like new levels or areas to actually play.
