Started the game on Revengeance today...it's fucking hard, but holy fuck I somehow one shotted Metal Gear Ray with a parry. I don't even know how I did it, I just know it was fucking mental.

Perfect parrying deals a shit ton of damage, a single one dropped Sam down nearly 70-80% of his health.

Unfortunately perfect parries can sometimes be counterproductive if you're trying to go for that S-Rank.  I know the bosses tend to have high combo bonuses and the perfect parry makes their health drop like a rock... which makes that combo bonus a bit harder to achieve.

The hardest challenge I've had on Revengeance was Monsoon. Equipping the Sai helped a ton but he was still handing me my bottom on a magnetic plate. Finally got past him the other night though! I hear Sundowner is easier so I'm really only dreading the final boss at this point.

Sundowner would be the easiest boss, next to Mistral.

I swear I could had beaten him without cutting his armor off.

Yeah, he really doesn't have much health on the lower difficulties and I doubt that changed for Revengeance difficulty haha. It's odd because you'd expect him to have the most out of the regular bosses.

Why is the camera on this game so fucking broken.

Why yes lets add a parrying system. Oh theres one enemy on this screen, ok so I'll try to move my character just a tiny bit... . .. .. oh... no the camera has zoomed in on a box... oh now a wall... oh... now I'm on the floor with no health because I couldn't see the enemy attack.

Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with the camera on this game?

Use lock-on

Good luck w/that tactic, I died against the gundam like robot in the area w/all those boxes, I found switching between lock-on and free camera works best.

Use the lock on and make sure you're not standing somewhere dumb where people can flank you by using the ninja run to re-position.

the camera does suck, and it could have used the reposition trigger from NG, but it's still a very playable and workable game despite that.

This game's camera secretly has a thing for walls, specifically in tight areas. It loves them, wall porn everywhere.

So, Jetstream Sam's DLC is supposed to come out tomorrow I think.

I need this in my veins.

Also looks like Blade Wolf's will be coming out next month.

Jetstream Sam DLC looks fantastic, even if it's recycling content. I will forgive that for this game, because...THIS GAME

I'm a grand total of two minutes into Sam's DLC and oh god.

We got Armstrong being Armstrong.

And then we learn that the bike Raiden stole was Sam's.

This is fucking great.

I was expecting a bit more substantial content to make up for the fact that they were reusing old enemies and stages, but it really is a short episode. (there's an achievement for beating it in under an hour even) The new VR missions also aren't "collectible" like the normal ones and they have to be done within the level, and count as ranked battles towards your overall ranking in the epsiode. 2 of them are extremely annoying as well, 1 with armored enemies carrying rocket launchers as you fight overall a bottomless pit, and another is just a long survival match against waves of enemies. Still haven't finished the latter. Bosses at least have new behaviors and are far more agressive overall. Which can be a pain cause Sam's style really relies on using charged attacks, as his normal slashes don't do that much damage in comparison. Sam also starts meek when you start out but you can get energy and fuel upgrade pickups throughout the episode, and I think you get weapon upgrades for completing the VR missions but I'm not entirely sure. His attacks definitely are stronger now though I noticed.

The story was disappointing though. I was expecting more indepth look at Sam and his motives since the actual game didn't really make those clear. Nothing was really explored here and the ending felt abrupt, not hearing what Sam thought of the outcome of things.

It was fun but thinking it over $10 might have been a bit too much, given how short it was and the disappointing story.

I went in expecting Sam to be awesome.

I got Sam being awesome.

Sam is very fun to play as, but very different from Raiden.  When I play as Raiden I try to keep the pressure on the enemies, making sure to never let up on them.  With Sam I find myself trying to keep pressure off me and trying to create openings to deal massive damage with his charged moves.  Sam's aerial combat capabilities are also a bit lacking in comparison to Raiden, which makes the flying enemies a bit of a hassle to deal with.  I think Sam's parry window is a bit shorter than Raiden's too, and his dodge doesn't come with an attack to keep combos going.   However, Sam does trump Raiden with his aerial movement, having a mid-air dash and double jump allowed for some quick and easy platforming segments for extra goodies and the like.

The bosses are a joy to play like usual.  It's a bit of a different experience because Sam is a lot different from Raiden, also because the bosses are a bit more tenacious.  Bladewolf hardly ever lets up on you now, and I found myself trying to back him into a corner in order to actually hit him.  Metal Gear RAY is much faster, and grabbing health drops from its missiles is much harder thanks to Sam's lack of a running slash.  And Armstrong is fucking Armstrong, except now some of his attacks can't be blocked.  Sam's finishers aren't quite as cool and climatic as Raiden's, but I really didn't expect them to be.

As far as story goes... it's pretty insignificant.  We learn and see a few cool things, like how the bike Raiden stole was Sam's, how Sam and Bladewolf first met, and how Sam lost his right arm.  It's interesting to see how Sam acts very similarly to Raiden, delivering justice to those who deserve it and what-not.  It's like Sam is a reflection of Raiden; the only difference is that Sam took Armstrong up on his offer in the end. There's not much, but what's there is pretty cool.

Much like the main story, I can see myself replaying this quite a lot on higher difficulties.  I think I got my $10's worth out of it personally.

I got the DLC last night and its fun.

Playing as Sam is different from Raiden, obviously. But I do feel like they pumped up the bosses too since I've been having problems with them. But either way playing as Sam is a good time killer and still pretty fun either way. Can't wait for Blade Wolf DLC.

I do hate how you lose your story progress though.

I was kind of disappointed at how little development Sam gets.  His background is just kind of glazed over.  It's still pretty well justified as DLC, though; Sam isn't just a reskin and the bosses feel like very different experiences.  Metal Gear RAY on crack is probably the best boss fight in the game period IMO.

I was gonna post earlier but eh I forgot.

But I do agree with this post mostly because of how different everything felt compared to the actual game.

And honestly compared to the main game's fight, I honestly felt like I was really fighting a 50 foot Metal Gear RAY since you didn't had a break between fighting it like Raiden did.

If anything other than how short it is I do hate...

How they gave Armstrong a fricking unblockable flaming move that works like a homing missle. In fact its really hard to take advantage of Sam's high mobility for some reason. Maybe its just me.

Nice, was wondering when it'd show it's face, it's an amazing song that did sound like a scrapped theme, I guess it's Blade Wolf's theme.
