That time of year again ladies and gents, and i figure I might as well give the world something to make the seasons that bit brighter. On a forum where majority arguments boil down to "This game/thing in game is terrible" "no it isn't here's an essay explaining why" for roughly 40 or so pages of content, I'd say now's as good a time as ever!

Now I'm sure a good lot of you don't know what a Christmas cracker is, and I wouldn't blame you!

Take it away, Ashens!

If you don't want to watch sixteen minutes of a grown man ranting a about an English children's novelty item, a Christmas cracker is basically a lovely traditional present item that contains an assortment of small gifts: a hat, a toy/miscellaneous item of some sort, a joke, and sometimes a charade and piece of trivia.

And it explodes.

Sort of.

I'll be releasing 25 crackers digitally in this format for each December day leading up to Christmas.

Basically;

Snap: A piece of Sonic Christmas-related media, like a video or a comic.

Hat: An image of some sort of Sonic-related headgear.

Toy: An image of some miscellaneous/interesting Sonic toy or novelty.

Joke: A TERRIBLE SONIC KNOCK-KNOCK JOKE or something in the like. Keyword being terrible.

Charade: A daily Sonic art challenge, usually some ridiculous thing nobody would ever want to draw.

Trivia: A neat bit of Sonic trivia. I'll strive not to copy material from the likes of Did You Know Gaming.

If you'd like to suggest material for the crackers, Lord knows I'd appreciate it dearly. but please do so in a PM, for otherwise would ruin the surprise factor.

The crackers will be released every day around 5 PM Pacific time, unless I say otherwise in advance.

An early Newgrounds flash animation, Sonic Christmas Greeting is a brief scenario in which Sonic and Tails spend their Christmas in the Lava Reef Zone. As expected, things don't go well for them.

HAT:

"With this cap, GE Entertainment takes the 'thumbs up Sonic' that they like to use on their tags, and turns it into the art for the cap. By making the design really large, it adds an element of interest & visibility. The brim and hole-rims are also blue as an accent color. Sonic X Space Fighters Line: Mega Bot Tails

"Mega Bot Tails is actually kind of cool.

You can imagine Tails inventing something like this suit, if he had to. (but who knows why) The suit makes him look proportionate, and not suffer from 'big body' at all. This is one of the most poseable figures on the line, with his tails for support. You can see that they also bothered to color the insides of his ears this time, however they added a bit much 'white space' to his tail tips (they are actually about half+ white) which is inaccurate, but somewhat nit-picky."

How the Hedgehog Stole Christmas - 2007

Parody of How the Grinch Stole Christmas in which Shadow attempts to get rid of the holidays to make room for more angst. Being made in 2007, some of the humor may be a bit questionable, but for its time this was generally quite impressive.

HAT:

"This rather ordinary looking watch-cap is actually rather valuble.

This item was a pre-release give-away when you pre-ordered Shadow The Hedgehog the game through the Sega newsletter or through an Electronics Botique. The hats had an ok supply, just the "pre-buzz" against the game itself resulted in not too many pre orders. Soon after the game was released, the once 'free' caps were going for over $60.00 USD on ebay. Hang on to your hat if you've got this one!"

TOY:

"The boxes for this line are quite nice. As you can see the bubbles are textured and they do have an inner part to keep the figure safe. With bright colors and attractive stickering, the figures are appealing on the shelves, while being very hard to bootleg, with the fancy bubble (much like ReSaurus was)"

CHARADE: Eggman finally defeats Sonic, but his victory was entirely unintentional.

TRIVIA: In Sky High Zone Act 1 of Sonic 2 for the Game Gear, a small easter egg can be found on the upper level. Follow the route in the video an isolated platform with a 1-Up. Almost immediately, you'll see a line of ducks hopping out of a tree and proceeding left off-screen. This is the only place in the game where the ducks can be found.

A Sonic Christmas Special (The Christmas That Almost Sucked) - sonictoast

"Mario has invited Sonic and his friends over to his cabin for christmas. Meanwhile the evil Doctor Robotnik has kidnapped Santa Clause and plots to make Christmas suck. Can Sonic and Mario save Christmas?"

I remember watching this stop-motion gem many Christmas seasons ago, and I still think it's pretty funny, in an odd sort of way.

HAT:

Not necessarily a hat, but it is cute Sonic headgear, perfect for this time of year!

There are actually quite a few of these Sonic Meccano sets, where you build the set and car, then you play! The Casino Night one caught my eye, but there are also Green Hill and Chemical Plant sets, too. In fact, you can connect all three of these sets together to make one big track! DECEMBER 8TH... shhhh...

I'm gonna do a little something different for a snap and post a Christmas Sonic iPhone wallpaper. I got this from the Sonic 20th Anniversary app last year, and I really can't find it anywhere else. So enjoy! (it's really big to support Retina display)

HAT:

"This is a little bit of a strange Sonic cap. It's a variation of the other Sonic face caps, but this one has odd little plush ears on the top of it. Can be found at Walmart."

TOY:

A Sonic Adventure-themed Amy figure! Released around 1999-2000, there were several figures in this line featuring all playable characters: Sonic, Sonic skiing (yes, skiing), Tails, Knuckles, Big, and E-102. They all came with a ring and a stand to make the figure stand up straight (the purple circle behind the ring and hammer) Amy naturally came with her Piko-Piko hammer!

I had one of these when I was 6. I left it at the Olive Garden and never saw poor Amy again.

Alrighty, I'm gonna change this up a little bit since Deck the Place can't do it anymore and it'll be pretty difficult for me to as well until I'm on winter break (finals are EVIL). Instead of having a huge, whopping cracker filled each with a snap, hat, toy, joke, charade, and trivia, I will do ONE of the following each day:

Snap, hat, OR toy...

AND

Joke, charade, OR trivia.

So you'll be getting two goodies a day rather than six. It'll be a surprise as to what you get each day, too, so that's fun! Six is rather hard, yeah?

HAT:

A lapland style Sonic Hat! It has rather short tassels, and has two on the top and two at the bottom which hang around the chin. It's light blue and dark blue striped, and has a rubber Sonic decal on the front. It could be found at several retailers, but I bought one of these at Spencer's Gifts around winter 2010. I must say, it's rather cozy.

JOKE:

Why did Sonic cross the road?

...to escape from the city, of course!

TOY:

Sonic sled! It's a "saucer" sled, so it's round and concave, with a smooth bottom for speedy sledding! Obviously it features Sonic and Amy, and it's made by the brand Outer Edge. It hasn't been spotted anywhere yet, as it's supposed to be released this winter!

TRIVIA:

Doctor Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is just a slight redesign of Japan's Puyo Puyo. It was redesigned to appeal to the American market. It was also redesigned in the same manner for the SNES as Kirby's Avalanche.

DECEMBER 12TH!!!

TOY:

Bendy Sonic Adventure figures!!!

These generally came in packs of 4, but there were 6 (or 7?) figures you could get: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Big, Dr. Eggman, and apparently E-102. They're pretty small (I think 3 inches), and come with several rings and 2 Chaos Emeralds. They re-released these under Sonic X packaging, but took out E-102 and added Shadow and Super Sonic. Super Sonic, however, was nothing more than a gold-painted Sonic, as seen below.

And here's Shadow too, cause why not?

CHARADE:

This hat is available at the Alton Towers Resort gift shop in the UK. It's somewhat "trucker style", with mesh back and white panel front. The design has classic forward-facing winking Sonic with the classic logo, but it also has a "faux wear" to it, making it seem old and worn (much like the ever-popular pre-torn up jeans!).

 

JOKE:

An entry to TSS's Christmas Contest 2010, this video stars Big and Eggman singing through many past Sonic games to the tune of Carol of the Bells. Simple and festive!

On the back, it says "Don't Blink". You can get this fine hat for $19.99 at Spencer's Gifts, either in store or online!

 

 

TRIVIA:

 

In Sonic Adventure, there are several unused Tikal voice clips. One of them explains how to become Super Sonic (collect 50 rings and press the "action" button while jumping). This indicates that Super Sonic was originally meant to be usable in regular levels. It is also possible that the player was once required to manually collect the Chaos Emeralds before the Perfect Chaos boss. You can listen to the clip below.
