Which Sonic Game has the best soundtrack?

I've kind of been bouncing around between topics. So I apologize if I already have put my opinion here.

I must say that to me Generations has to be the best Sonic Soundtrack. Its like a marriage between the classic sounds of Sonic and the modern sounds of Sonic. Classic Sonic music is mostly techno, where Modern Sonic has a lot of orchestra music in it. Both are good to listen to separately, but when you combine them you get something truly magical. There were many moments when I played this game that I just stopped to listen to the music and it would send a spark of joy to my heart. I was especially happy once the Soundtrack was available on iTunes. Sega spared no expense to make Generations, because its like an anniversary game of Sonic. So alot of attention was given to this album, even more so than the others since it had to express all of the past music of Sonic.

I like some of the versions of songs on generations better than the originals. Especially the classic sonic version of Rooftop Run. Its actually my personal favorite non vocal Sonic song. I felt like it really combined the classic and modern sonic sound the best.

I know what your all thinking. Neon has talked our ears off time and time again about the Unleashed album. And suddenly she is  saying that its not the best album? The thing is that Unleashed will always have a special place in my heart. But this topic is about what the best Sonic album is, not our personal favorites. Generations in my opinion is the best because it is able to bring us back through the many worlds and eras of Sonic. It has something special that can't be outmatched.

Gotta love dat Violin, especially in both versions. I've gotta say, I'm actually leaning towards Generations being the best soundtrack the more I play it (I go back to it all the time.)

I threw Generations on while I cleaned my apartment today. The music is phenomenal. City Escape classic is fire, as well as Rooftop Run. A personal favorite of mine is Chemical Plant Modern. Honesty, It's got everything.

In my opinion, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic ´06. These soundtracks are gorgeous.

I don´t even know where to begin, but every piece of music from cutscenes, stages, etc fits so well. It´s a nice change of pace (heh) from your typical hard-rock guitar music.

Sonic Adventure 1. Level and character theme songs...gives me hyped up nostalgic feels.

I had this on the other day while I was studying. Realized how many gems this soundtrack had. The chao race music is amazing as well as the chao entrance music.Red Mountain part 2 with Sonic is phenomenal and fun fact, I believe Sonic Team stole that song's beat from another song. The Nights music that plays in Casinopolis, so nostalgic. Final Egg is a personal favorite of mine and some of the throback tunes like the ones in Twinkle Park, Emerald Coast and Windy Valley are soooo good. Honestly, these are just a few of the gems.

I know rightbiggrin.png ? Sega should use the Violin more often in their games, it sounds amazing. Usually I don't replay games, but I find myself replaying the Rooftop Run level and the City Escape levels of Generations every now and then. I just can't get enough of how much detail was put into the scenery and music of each level.

That's the only reason I ever go back to playing classic Rooftop Run, screw the giant clock at the end. I love the remix, and the fact that it takes place in the Spagonia hub world. I seriously love the care and detail Sonic Team applied to the nostalgiac throwbacks in Generations, on both a music and visual front.

I agree wholeheartedly, it most certainly was a work of art on Sega's part. It showed the love and care they have for the series. (I hate that darn clock toobiggrin.png )

Oh god, why would you make me pick?

My favourite used to be Sonic Rush thanks to Hideki Naganuma's handiwork, but I've listened to that soundtrack so many times it's kind of lost its shine on me. Sonic Unleashed is really high up there thanks to the massive range of sounds thanks to the different countries and cultures on display. Sonic Generations has an unfair advantage since it's basically the best of the best songs over the years, remixed to sound even more refreshing and interesting. SA1 and SA2 have huge levels of nostalgia behind them but, again, I've listened to them so many times pieces of it start to get repetitive. I love most of the Secret Rings soundtrack, but a large majority of it is cutscene music which I don't particularly care for. Sonic Colours has Tropical Resort, so that's massive points right there. Sonic 1 has Star Light, Sonic 2 has Casino Night, Sonic 3 has Hydrocity, Knuckles has Lava Reef...

Augh, I'll just take the easy way out and pick Sonic Generations.

This quite difficult for me to say but damn its a tie between S3 & K and Sonic Adventure for me. Though I love Sonic '06's OST tons.

Yes despite the flaws of 06 that people like to point out, the music was not one of them. The radical train tracks really stuck with me. I loved the train like sound they got through a saxophone. It was nice. Plus a lot of the 06 vocal tracks were good as well. Its nice to know that whether or not a sonic game is popular, that the music will still be good.

The Adventure games (excluding the rap music) and 06. (Even if it was a dud, the soundtrack still kicks ass.)

Some of you have mentioned that its not really fair to claim that Generations is the best album because it is recreations of past songs. Hence it is technically not an origional album of Sonic. More like a remix of past songs. And I agree with this because its true. So if I were to ignore generations I would have to say that to me the best album is SA2.

Sonic Adventure 2 was really well balanced. Each song had a unique flair and I liked that each character had a different sound for their levels. The rouge songs were my favorite, I still have them on my playlist. It had great boss battle music (Supporting me) and level music (Escape from the City, Keys the ruin). It has a sound that Sega still uses to this day. I feel like this album really defined what Modern Sonic is all about.

It doesn't Matter (no pun intended) if Generations consists of only remixes of past Sonic songs. As long as you enjoy it, you could easily hold it in high regard.

I do like Adventure 2's album overall, even the Knuckles rap songs, but my main problem is that 4/6 of it is rock, Rogue and Knuckles obviously being exceptions. Most of it being one genre makes it hard for me to differentiate a lot of the songs, which is why I find Tails and Eggman's stage music to be largely forgettable, with the exception of Mission Street. SA2 does have a lot of hits though, like most of the vocal songs, City Escape, Death Chamber, Supporting Me, and Mission Street. For all the songs I love in that album, there's a lot I don't find very memorable.

This is a good point. SA2 was like a base for the music that followed it. The music after SA2 really branched out of this and became wonderful soundtracks. The games after it built upon the good things SA2 had and became even better. Sort of like SA and SA2 were the first ingredients to the Sonic Modern music library that led to better things. I wonder if Sonic Lost Worlds music will be the start of a new era in sonic music?

That would be nice. New classics, with a few occasional throwbacks to past glory. And lots of variety as well.

Yeah, that is why I think Generations is the best. It created new music as well as sending a nod out to classic Sonic music. Which was why the classic Rooftop run is my favorite sonic song. It perfectly blends old with new. I hope lost worlds continues in this direction, making new sonic music with a dash of classic sound. I love modern sonic music a lot, but I sometimes would wish that there was new songs that sound like classic sonic music. Like the starlight zone in the first sonic the hedgehog game. For some reason I really loved that song a lot. I know normally people say that the green hill zone is their favorite classic sonic song and level. But for some reason the starlight zone makes me happy, I don't have a clear reason as to why. Part of it is that it creates the perfect ambiance for the level.

If sega were to create new music with a little classic sonic groove I would be ecstatic. Its fine with me if they don't though. Any sonic music is good sonic music to me.

I like Sonic adventure Music the best, but also love sonic colors' soundtrack. I really enjoy the classical/pop style it has (sorry if i calssified it wrong, I do not know many music styles.)

With Sonic adventure, Ijust loved how each character had a theme that payed when they appeared. I mean, every time that "My Sweet, Sweet Passion" song starts to play on my Ipod, I get those fond feelings I had long ago when I played that game. it just gave each character a bit more depth, and kinda excited me :). I was like "Yay! an Amy/ Sonic cutscene!" Or "Yay! tails did it!"

I would really like it if they had a more jun senoue sound to the new soundtrack too. I mean, who doesn't love that beat of the old games? (well, I guess some people don't, but I like it :) )

Hmm....I would have to say '06 for me. I just love the orchestras of Iblis, Mephiles, and Solaris <3 I think the dramatic tones of Iblis's boss battles add to the atmosphere and mood of the characters when they fight against him. Mephiles's themes match his pure evil personality perfectly, with that combo of piano and electric guitar. As for Solaris, both phases are mysterious and awe-inspiring, just like Solaris itself.

For me:

Sonic 1, 2, 3

Sonic CD

Sonic adventure 2

Sonic unleashed

Good choices. Sonic Unleashed is one of my top favorites as well. I love that there are instruments from around the world in it. If generations did not exist I would pick it as my top album.

Finally someone else who likes the music of 06! Yes 06 as a game had some flaws (many flaws that the people here like to "discuss"wink.png). But the music by far is not one of these flaws. If you listen to the album apart from the game it has a lot of good tunes. The "Just Smile" event music always makes my heart skip a beat. Its a powerful melody.
