Final Fantasy XV [Formerly Versus XIII] (Xbox One, PS4)

So we got some...new info for Final Fantasy XV...I guess?

Square are gonna announce a definitive release date for the game in March 2016.

They also showed off some concept art details as well.

And finally, more details on the driving:

In Square Enix’s Active Time Report for Final Fantasy XV at PAX Prime 2015, director Hajime Tabata shared the latest on the game, including a look at how you’ll get to go cruising on the Reglia with Noctis and his crew.

Auto mode will have the car go to its destination with Ignis as the driver. While Ignis takes control of the wheel, you’ll get to enjoy the scenery and conversations.

As previously reported, Noctis’ father King Reigis is the owner of Regalia. While Final Fantasy XV will have a theme of bond between friends, it will also share a story that tells the bond between Noctis and his father.

You can switch to manual at any mark. There’s a gasoline marker to indicate how much gas you have, and if you run out, then you’ll have to do something about it. Also, Cindy will bring your car to you via a valet feature, but you will have to pay her.

Different camera views will be available while driving. You can pull over whenever you want and explore the area.

Additional details on Regalia and what it’s like to ride the car in Final Fantasy XV will be revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2015 next month, when the next Active Time Report will take place.

Final Fantasy XV is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

So yeah, the car can run out of gas. This is certainly a fantasy based on reality.

At this point there should be no reason not to have a more full out blow out of information at TGS. Seriously.

I've always disliked the Chocobo theme, and it seems like it's back in full force here. Oh well.

It animates beautifully, though. Props to the guy who saw it through.

The jazz remix in FF13 is pretty good actually if you haven't heard that one.

The Active Time Report for January happened today, new awesome things;

If you want the brief recap:

They also showed some really, really awesome gameplay as well. Complete with stealth segments and what looks like to be a lot of changes, combat included.

For the March event where they'll reveal the release date, that's going to be happening on March 30th, 2016 at the Shrine Auditorium in Hollywood, hosted by Greg Miller. Full details, including what it'll be livestreamed on and admission to go to the event are on the site.

Literally Metal Gear Fantasy: where the cardboard box at?

Also, if someone told me that someday there would have been a main Final Fantasy game that included a turret section, i would have laughed in his/her face. This new game is always full of surprises.

Very impressed by what I heard/saw in the ATR. As someone who played the demo, combat looks loads better than before. The camera does a better job at keeping up with Noctis, and the manual weapon switching is a GODSEND. The party commands look pretty slick as well, and I'm glad the existence of skill trees for them provides some malleability in terms of what they can do. There are some other small changes (that I like), but on the whole, I'm happy with what I saw. My only worry is that the bases will be like outposts in Far Cry, where they're plastered all over the map and eventually get very repetitive. I'm just about fed up with that sort of checklist design, so hopefully it doesn't afflict this game

Details on magic were nice, as were the details on Niflheim. I don't really like Areana's design though, and I definitely wouldn't have minded them making it a bit less revealing. I have no problem with developers making sexy characters, but what matters is context. Her having the role that she does does not warrant such a design unless she's something of a Bayonetta-like character (which she likely won't be), and even then, I imagine it would feel out of place. It ain't a deal breaker though.

Onward to March, so we can finally blow the lid off of this game.

So, there was a major leak about Final Fantasy XV. I'm going to put it in the spoiler section in case your looking forward to the Uncovered Event.

Spoiler

So the release date has been leaked by Gamestop: September 30th. http://nichegamer.com/2016/03/30/final-fantasy-xv-launch-set-for-september-30/

We’ve learned (via NeoGAF) that Final Fantasy XV will launch on September 30th for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The news comes via a mistakenly published GameSpot video (which quickly got taken down, you can view a backup here) that revealed the game’s release date.

The game will also get a new demo later today, where you control a young version of Noctis, as he travels through a dreamscape.

The official reveal for the release date is set for tonight’s “Uncovered” event, which goes down at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, at 7 PM pacific, 10 PM eastern.

Alright, let's try recapping the event that have been announcend on the March 30th conference:

*Hironobu Sakaguchi personally consulted with Tabata and gave his blessing on the game; same goes for Nobuo Uematsu to Yoko Shimomura

*One of the main musical themes of the game is a cover of the song Stand By Me, made by Florence and the Machine

*The game has expanded material already: a 5-episode anime series that expands on the 4 main characters called Brotherhood (avaible on Youtube for free) and an upcoming full-lenght CGI movie called Kingslaive that focuses on Noctis' father and his subjects. The three main roles for the american/english voice acting have been given to Aaron Paul, Lena Headey and Sean Bean.

*New demo avaible already on PS4 and Xbox One called Platinum Demo; you control a kid Noctis and he's escorted by a Carbuncle in what appears to be a dream world

*Several trailers showcasing the landscapes you're gonna explore and some new monsters and bosses, including Titan.

*Justice Monster V is a pinball-like minigame that's avaible in the main game and is gonna be avaible separately on IoS and Android from today.

*Two separate collector's edition announced; one is a standard steelboock with the game, some DLC and a blue-ray of Kingslaive; the other has that plus more DLC, an hardbook, a special soundtrack CD and a Noctis action figure. It's in limited quantity though, so start your pre-orders now since they're already avaible.

*Final surprise: the solution to this game's airship is having the car TRANSFORMING INTO THE FUCKING BATWING.

The absolute madmen.

Anyway, episode one of Brotherhood is already avaible, have fun:

EDIT: Confirmed in the after show that Kingslave is being handled by the same team who made Advent Children, while Brotherhood is being handled by the studio who made Last Order. So yeah, it's the Compilation of FFVII all over again, only all at the once in the same year.

Yeah, I was all happy and then of course we get pre-orders and collectors editions with DLC. Classic AAA industry. Two different collectors editions with different varying amounts of DLC? Did we learn nothing from Watch Dogs? Yeah, I think I'll just get it at launch.

Also can't help but think them trying to pull a FF7 compilation on this NEW game before it even releases comes off as counting your chickens before they hatch, though again this is Square, and they have a track record of doing just that.(*looks at FF13)

I had literally caught this anime last night by sheer luck, seeing as it came out of nowhere for me. Also, the people studio that made Last Order is making the episodic anime huh? Is it the same animation studio (Madhouse) or a completely different one, because I keep hearing people say its A-1 Pictures and I haven't seen it listed yet.

Versus Watch_Dogs, Final Fantasy XV is already a part of a well-established series. To say the least, it's a lot more justified to have these super collectable editions for franchises that have a strong fanbase, which is what Final Fantasy has. Watch_Dogs was a completely new IP that tried to sell a hat as a "iconic item" in the first entry of a new series.

The game needs to sell 10 Million copies in order to succeed http://www.kotaku.co.uk/2016/03/31/final-fantasy-15-needs-to-sell-10-million-copies-to-succeed

Welp, typical Triple AAA standards at this point with the overbudgety budgets. Hopefully they might be able to pull this one off, but it's a bit worrying since games like MGS V have only sold around 6-8 million in about 6 months. If SE is looking for fast investment, they might as well failed already unless the game ends up selling as fast as GTA V or Fallout 4 did. And that's likely not going to happen unless it attracts the majority of the game crowd that most likely are not fans of the series.

EDIT: If you're wondering how much the game needs to break even, it's a whopping $600000000 (SIX HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS).

If they ever release the official budget this could be the largest budget for a multimedia product ever.

Wonder what they'll expect from KH3 and FF7 sales wise. Honestly, a lot of the news here and even playing the demo had me more thinking "wonder if this could mean anything for KH3". Like how certain things are structured business and sales wise, expectation, pre-orders, special editions, even how characters are animated when talking, etc. I mean for example, we see kinda a blend of speech bubbles and voice acting in XV, so I'm curious to know if something like could carry over to games like or KH3.

So turns out the game doesn't need to sell 10 million units, Tabata just really wants it to:

http://www.idigitaltimes.com/final-fantasy-xv-doesnt-need-sell-10-million-units-tabata-just-really-wants-523739

"We believe there was a communication problem during the conference. In fact, Tabata was referencing 10 million copies only as a high goal which the development team set to realize their ambition to make the ultimate FINAL FANTASY game. And the comment was never meant to be referred as a recoup line of the investment"

Well, it looks like there are some gameplay vids about the Platinum Demo recently.

Gonna put a video in a spoiler (lengthy vid about 40 minutes long):

Spoiler

Points to consider that this looks and feels more Kingdom Hearts like and gameplay is simplified to hold down the button to attack.

Holding the button OR Tapping the button... Infact using both plus directional inputs and manually switching weapons with each one having it's own movesets and skills is the basis for the BASICS of this final fantasy's combat.

Edit:

They didn't even find the Cross Shuriken or the Hero Shield.  This is a better combat showcase.

Anyone who says FFXV's combat is just holding the attack button clearly hasn't played it, is lying to make the game look bad or only played the first 5 minutes of either demo. The combat is full of nuances that force you to think at all times since running out of MP makes you near defenseless.

Yeah try booting up the Duscae demo and fighting the Behemoth by just holding the attack button, see how long you last, I'd like to see that.

Well, apparently the director has talked about something known as Final Fantasy Disease. Put simply, it more or less is saying it's people within the company that have their own idea of what FF actually is, say if it isn't their ideal FF, it's doomed, and they can't come to a united agreement. So basically sounds like almost any franchise 's fanbase. And with people getting people pissy about FFXV and FF7R not being turned based, or more traditional, especially seems like FFD is pretty prevalent there. It also seems like a indirect potshot at those fans complaining and saying it will be bad.

I played the Platinum demo and my 5-year old niece was watching too. I loved the demo, but after I went to finish it my niece turned to me and told me she teared a bit XD.

Man I'll have to do something about the disk space because between No Man's Sky and this game I'll fill the little space I still have

While I may not be the biggest fan of Type-0, I really think Tabata knows what he's doing with FFXV. Almost everything he's said about both the game and his view on the current state of FF, as well as his views on SE's past blunders when it comes to their management of the series, hits home. He seems so acutely aware of the problems that afflict the series that it's hard not to have faith in the guy.

Obviously there's a sizeable difference between saying and doing, of course, and I hope he can pull off the latter. But I feels good to say that I don't have too many reservations about the game.

It feels really good.
