Final Fantasy XV [Formerly Versus XIII] (Xbox One, PS4)

Hoo boy, here's the big dump of info!

Tabata-san revealed some new details today in a livestream. Starts at 27:00.

In it, Tabata showed their "Leading-Edge" approach of the game, empathizing improvements on combat, exploration, and immersion. For those not experienced or want a slower-paced experience, they're adding a "Wait" mode feature you can turn on.

Here's that full Afrojack trailer from E3 if you want to take a look at it. It's...alright?

You can also now watch Episode 2 of Brother of Final Fantasy XV, focusing on Prompto's past and both his and Noctis's friendship. He was so chubby back then :P

Turn on closed captions and choose the language available to watch it (If you're not proficient in Japanese, that is). They also uploaded a version of this for Episode 1 if you want to take a look.

The Japanese Box Art has been revealed, and it looks sweeeetttt

FinalFantasyXV-1.jpg

The US/Western box art hasn't been finalized but this is what they have so far. It's also gonna come with a reversible back cover.

final-fantasy-xv-us-cover-1.jpg

Lastly, pre-ordering the game at Gamestop or EB Games will include a nifty side-game that's basically a side-scrolling beat-em-up called "A King's Tale: Final Fantasy XV". Welp, so much for my money.

A King's Tale: Final Fantasy XV

They'll reveal a set of more information tomorrow as a surprise tomorrow with a bonus presentation (they're doing the first presentation again tomorrow as well).

So bad news boys, games been delayed

The reason for this is that while the game is technically finished, tabata and the team want to polish it up more and avoid using a day one patch for it. Lots of people are really mad about this but personally I think this was a pretty cool decision on their part because it shows that they want this game to be the best it can be without requiring an internet connection to get the best possible version and if it takes an extra month for that then i'm willing to wait.

I'm not really sure how they're going to live down blowing all that money on an event that turned out to be pointless.

I dunno, it drove up a decent amount of hype for the game. So that's something.

If you don't care about spoilers the first hour of the game has been uploaded and you can check that out (its in english

Well this is kinda sleazy and gross.

$270 apparently isn't enough for Square and they need more still from you. Like, I don't get how there are actually people defending and justifying this. Yeah, the regular special edition doesn't have a season pass either, but that doesn't really make it better. Never mind season passes being a shitty concept as is, and the fact that there are multiple editions of makes it very offputting, and squares history with bs(like the augment your pre-order thing they were trying to do). I'm still getting this game(standard), but this really makes me sad as this game was looking so great, and it looked like it wasn't gonna fall down the bullshit tree. *sigh* I'm just hoping future Square titles like FF7HD, Dissidia, and KH3 don't go through this same thing.

Yeah, I mean if anybody is going to be shelling out this much money they should at least get the season pass to go with it, I smell corporate meddling here.

Surprised this wasn't posted here.

I'm not the biggest fan of the voice direction, but it is still really neat to see them do this for the English voice actors for a change. Ardyn's VA is probably going to be my favorite.

If you wanna listen to him in action (since he's both in the movie and in the main game), here's a small clip from Kingsglaive (spoilerless, don't worry), where he pretty much does all the talking by himself.

You can tell he's having the fun of his lifetime.

Wouldn't the Collector's Edition be more expensive if it had the season pass? It's not like you're getting anything for free when you buy a collector's edition (I haven't calculated how much everything in it would be yet, could be wrong).

Not to say I agree with them not including it, but...

He's absolutely fantastic in that clip. Really glad he's in both the movie and the game. Kinda wish they kept Sean Bean as Regis for the game and got his game VA to do someone else (his normal voice is amazing), but eh, budget.

Honestly if people are willing to shell 270 bucks, they probably wouldn't have cared if it was 290 or 300. (Though considering these are limited in supply more times than none, offering a season pass for free in the package I doubt would have damaged them much)

Angry Joe (plus Delrith and Angerbeard)'s review of Kingsglaive:

Scores:

Spoiler

Delrith: 8/10

Joe: 7/10

Angerbeard: 9/10

Overall they really enjoyed and liked it, said they would watch it again and is a good preparation for the game, but apprently most of the Kingsglaive members are not built up too much and it's not too friendly to people who are not interested in FFXV. Still miles better than Spirits Within for sure.

And apparently, due to bad cinema acustics, the Ultros cameo managed to ear rape them, lol.

Also, i love how Joe is so ignorant about the franchise and forgets/misspells almost every single name; then again, considering his knowledge of FF is only relegated to The Spirits Within, the XIII games and the first XIV launch version, i can't blame him completely.

Once again, this proves that the RottenTomatoes score is pure bs.

TGS trailers (warning, there may be some scenes that could be considered spoilers: watch at your own discretion):

I'm not kidding, when the main FF Theme started, i shed a tear: it's good to hear it properly after so many years.

More importantly, a new summon was shown:

FFXV_TGS_Screenshot_26.jpg

FFXV_TGS_Screenshot_27.jpg

Not sure if it's Shiva or Sylph, but i'm more inclined on the former.

Another update: remember how Justice Monster V is a minigame in FFXV that will be released on its own on mobile?

Well, Square-Enix has decided to have another one with the same idea, except this time, they decided to remake/sequelize one its oldest franchises ever: King's Knight.

For those who don't know what the original was like, allow Projared to tell you:

I'm actually baffled by this; between Square remembering this very old and forgotten (for good reasons) IP and the fact that now it seems more manageble while not sacrificing anything from the source material and just adding new stuff, it's something i'm sure noone expected.

*Second, the new summon is officially Shiva; had to be expected.

*Third, but more interestingly, the Death spell returns and it's really interesting. You get it only late in the game and only Noctis can use it, but it's OP as fuck, and can destroy monsters and even sub-bosses really easily by creepily distorting their bodies up until they're disintegrated:

That's both awesome and fucked up at the same time.

Great music selection. I am a bit saddened that nothing from FF Tactics is on there though :(

Death looks quite fun, and I was pretty shocked by it during the stream. Makes sense as a late-game item because running around with that thing in the middle of the story would very likely break the game balance-wise. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few enemies immune to it however (such as the Adamantoise).

The game is also shaping up really nicely from a visual standpoint. The LoD system seems improved sporting less pop-in, and foliage, shadow and overall lighting quality look to have seen a huge bump from the Gamescom and TGS builds. The fact that this is all on the Xbone version bodes very well for the base PS4/Pro versions.

The delay is certainly putting in work.

The game has officially gone gold!

Among other news is both a stunning new trailer, Omen (which is not canon but what is described as a future that King Regis envisioned would happen if he didn't intervene in Kingsglaive)

and news on it's upcoming DLC (being included in the Season Pass)

The Online Multiplayer will allow other players to assume the roles of Noctis's friends and will be included in the Season Pass. Sounds like fun! Man it's amazing that the game has gone all this way, it's almost here!

Really hope said online multiplayer isn't relegated to DLC. It'd be nonsense to have pay for such.

It actually was confirmed it is DLC (if you purchased the Season Pass though it's included in it), and honestly, i'm fine with it for two reasons: one, it hasn't been implemented yet (and we know that only now the game has been officially recognized as gone gold, aka finished out of the development cycle and the major adjustments; all the DLCs have been scheduled for months after the initial release so it's not a thing that can be implemented flawlessly in barely 1 month) and two, it's an option completely new to the franchise (well, almost, considering you could do some sort of co-op in Final Fantasy IX, but it was offline) that a good chunk of the fanbase like me may not be interested it. I'm fine as things are now as opposed to having to wait more months and having to fork 20 more bucks for a vanilla version with a feature that i'll never use.

-then again, considering the troubles and the dev cycle, Square could have been less jewish and having this mode being just as a patch update instead of paid DLC-

Anyway, Tabata has arrived in a local event here in my country (i really, really wished i could have been there, but the seats were sold out months ago and i wasn't even sure i would have still been in Italy) and showcased pretty much the same he did as in the Paris event (concept art for the DLC and the Omen trailer). However, there has been a new piece of art that hasn't been shown before, featuring our next summon, a.k.a. mister fiery lazyness on a throne shown in the first minute of gameplay: Ifrit.

14859896_10154781882622125_3479633348368371354_o.jpg

I guess for now the Chaos theory has been debunked. Still i'm ok with this, it means we have our standard pantheon of summons in this game (being nitpicky at least Bahamut is missing, but i'm fine with it being potentially out or being future DLC).

Yeah, I'd be more okay with it being a thing if it wasn't AAA industry "paid DLC" bs. A free update makes the most sense. The "it's optional" excuse could have still been used if it was a patch.

Sorry,  but making multi-player a paid feature is money grubbing nonsense. Oy vey Square, don't go down that road; it never ultimately ends well.

And yeah, no matter how anyone tries sugarcoating, them making what was essentially part of the main story to begin with and the multiplayer, paid dlc, is gonna affect initial sales and ignite all the more just waiting for a more proper GOTY edition with DLC included.

I'm fine with it since it isn't on disc. Locking something like that on disc would be really irritating.

Although I'm probably gonna wait until after playing through the game's story before deciding on buying it or not. No point in buying DLC for a game I might not like (though I enjoyed the demo).

Kinda wish it had local multiplayer as an option too, though...
