Forgotten gems in Sonic soundtracks?

Here is a second segment of creepy sonic music to get us in the Halloween spirit. Last time I talked about Mystic Mansion and Pumpkin hill( Knuckles music career, scary). But there are plenty of other scary songs from Sonic to add to your halloween playlist. So get in the halloween spirit creepers and ghouls. Its time to sit back with some spooky tunes while you ponder what Sonic character you will dress up as this year.

Speaking of creepers, Mephiles is the king of them. There is a lot of music dedicated to this shadow-like ghoul. Probably the most bad guy music for a villain on one Sonic album. Even more music than Eggman had on the 06 soundtrack. And boy, does the music live up to this creepy fiends name.  It has everything needed for a creepy song. Ominous piano, bells, and scary techno sounds. Plus it can send shivers up your spine. This will be a good song to play to get rid of those horrid kids that come over to take your candy. No one shall come between me and my M & M's! NO ONE! BWAHAHAHA!!!!!

Need a song to jam to while you search a haunted house on halloween? Well search no further than the "Haunted Ship" track from Sonic Rush Adventure. Its a peppy tune that has some spooky sounds in the background. Its a bit subdued but has a nice beat overall. Its more trick or treater friendly if you actually do want to give out candy.

A few of Sonic Free Riders had a JSR-equse feel to them, especially Rocky Ridge.

Oh, here's one that doesn't get as much love on here than I realized:

Seriously, SA2's OST may not be that excellent, but this is one of the stand out tracks that I repeatedly go back to. It's electronic rock sounds just flow and it's damn catchy.

'Tis the Halloween season, as Neon has shown us with her great picks :)

Maybe this isn't exactly forgotten, but I'm probably one of the few people that loves the Knuckles rap music in Sonic Adventure 2. When I think Sonic and Halloween,  Pumpkin Hill immediately springs to mind. I'm definitely listening to this on Hallowewen, it isn't exactly scary, but it's such a joy to my ears that I can't help but give it a listen.

If you're looking for Sonic music to fit the creepy side of Halloween, look no further than Fakery Way from Amy's version of Twinkle Park from Sonic Adventure. It's got the slow, suspenseful tone that makes you feel ready to jump out of your seat when you're listening to it in a pitch dark room and you feel like a certain someone is about to sneak up on you.

Thank you for the complimentsmile.png . A lot of the people on here have been coming out with cool halloween art. Its fun to get into the spirit together. Even though the twinkle park song has a creepy tone to it, I have always loved that song. I would play that level a lot.

This song for is an underrated masterpiece

You are 100% correct Sir. I know Sonic Rush is not a fan favorite but this song and wrapped in black are really good.

Halloween's coming up... time to get a crazy song in here.

I love this song so much. It's insane with the gibberish vocal samples and the supernatural atmosphere the instruments give off, I could really listen to this forever.

TGJFBS -

*ahem.* THIS. All of this. My absolute favorite track from this game. It's so delightfully creepy, and calm at the same time. Especially the Upside Down / Inverted half. A stroke of pure genius if I do say so myself.

But on the topic of creepy and forgotten, I bring you Mystic Haunt, from Sonic Rivals 2.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNVNMHAXvME

While they're all short on their own, combined, they make one heck of a creepy track.

Organs, Guitar, Techno, creepy moans, it's all present and accounted for. Hands down my favorite track in Rivals 2.

I always thought this was the most most criminally underrated official remix of the whole franchise. And It's bloody fantastic.

What U need (the Digital remakin' track) is tied with A New Day and Wrapped in Black (original version) as my favorite song from Sonic Rush. Handheld soundtracks tend to be forgotten over time, and the lyrics are obviously very odd, but I can't help but bop my head and sing along to it occasionally.

The Starlight Carnival and Asteroid Coaster boss music from Sonic Colors (Orcan and Skullian respectively, for those of you who didn‘t know). This was my favorite type of boss in Colors, and I’m sure the music contributed to that. It’s fast paced and sounds fitting for a huge mechanical zeppelin fight. It gets me pumped every time I hear it.

This... just this, easily the most magical track in the game, it has the feeling of ancientness(?) as you run on the floating temple, and it's EVEN BETTER when you're in the thunderstorm, the feeling of awe as you ride the black hawk across the storm, with this playing on the background.

Sonic Blast - Red Volcano Zone

What I love most about this song is the 8-bit hip-hop beat it has.  The Game Gear/Master System's noise channel manages to generate a sound which, to me, sounds like it's obviously meant to be a hand-clap.

Sonic Labyrinth - Stage 1

This is actually a very catchy tune, even if the game isn't that great.  My only complaint is that the percussion could've been done a bit better.

The Entire Sonic Chaos OST

This whole soundtrack is probably my favorite overall soundtrack for the 8-bit Sonics.  Unfortunately, it seems to receive VERY little love from the ReMixing community, so much so that my reaction to Rexy's Sonorous Discharge track from the Sonic Stadium Music Adventure 2012 was a resounding "FINALLY!" followed by a download.

All of the themes in Sonic Mega Collection.

This is definitely my favorite of them:

Although I like the Main Menu theme as well:

It's finally the Christmas season, the time to spread holiday cheer and put yourself in a good mood. Drink hot chocolate, set up decorations, buy gifts for people,..... and listen to some under appreciated Sonic music.

Diamond Dust act 2(Genesis version) may not be as catchy as the original rendition, but the more synthesized take on it is still great. It's very techno-ish, I love it.

Snowy Mountain is my favorite track of the Ice Cap stage in Sonic Adventure. You're unlikely to hear the full version playing the stage, but it's very trance-like, and the guitar buildup is incredibly soothing.

Sonic Advance 3 always had an under rated OST. Twinkle Snow act 2 is my favorite Ice Level song from the Advance trilogy, the effects in the song are great for the GBA, and it feels a bit ridiculous yet catchy at the same time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgVcPgv1-fg

Blizzard Peaks act 1 is a recent favorite of mine. It's more of an edgy Ice Level, but it feels like the handheld equivalent of Cool Edge day, getting you massively pumped up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4QyJjMOEcY

I love everything about the Holoska day hub track. The bells, the classic Christmas feel, it's just so heartwarming.

"Snowball Waltz" may not be forgotten yet, so I guess I'm cheating, but it unfortunately got tied down by being in a sh!tty level in the 3DS version of Frozen Factory act 3. I get serious Holoska flashbacks, it's yet another classical Christmas feeling song.

It took me FOREVER to find this song, which is Sonic 06's extras music, after first hearing it in SomecallmeJohnny's review of the game. This is the best use of a piano solo in a Sonic game, and it's my favorite version of Elise's theme song "My Destiny", hands down. It's got that feel good feeling, trying to cheer you up, but it still makes me feel melancholy for several reasons. I basically get "What could have been" out of this song, if you know what I mean.

*Dusts off topic*

Since I never got the chance to try Secret Rings I decided to give the soundtrack a try, and I found a boss theme that could potentially one of my favorites and is one of the less talked about themes from the game.

Now the song I'm taking about is Blue on the Run aka Captain Behemoth's boss theme

This song is just rockin, with a great beat that gets you hyped up and ready to kick some ass.

Nimue: The Lady of the Lakes's theme is pretty spectacular, if I do say so myself.

Kind off odd how it's technically my favorite Amy theme. It's got this sort of music box-esque quality to it, and I kind of feel sad listening to it for some reason.

Event: Let's Make It!

and

Event: The Base

When people discuss SA 2's soundtrack, they normally refer to the level or character themes, arguing on how fitting and entertaining they are. But, to me, the cutscene scores are criminally overlooked. Not only are these great pieces of music, they also do excellent jobs to apply the needed atmosphere; Let's make It! is rather upbeat, portraying Sonic's whimsical attitude towards his arrest and escape -- but at the same time, there's a bit of... sad tone (?) in the brass that implies that this is more urgent then the hedgehog would let us think. The Base has this brilliant way of creating a 'sneaky' feeling, but also encapsulating a 'calm before the storm' vibe too.

Has anyone brought up Tornado Scramble yet?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gT6y1V_tHc

I really enjoy how classically-oriented this song is in both melody and instrumentation. Out of all of the music on Sonic Adventure's soundtrack, Tornado Scramble sounds the most like it was a scrapped track plucked from a classic title and just inserted in the game. I suppose that's no surprise, considering it's coming from a Mega Drive sound designer, but regardless, I've always found this tune an overlooked little earworm. <3

I thought Frog Forest's theme was pretty damn good. I love how the instruments help the melody breathe life into this stage. There's just something in this music that just makes me tingle inside. I dunno, but I love it! biggrin.png

I'll counter that and say I prefer Lost Jungle's song, although both tracks don't get enough love.

I just love how smooth and subtle the use of the guitar is, and it feels so... different and unique for a jungle theme.
