Forgotten gems in Sonic soundtracks?

Race to Win from Rivals 2 is a pretty catchy song. I'm glad it at least made it into Generations.

Also, both the staff rolls from Sonic 3D, the Genesis one in particular is one of my favorites simply because it's the last Genesis Sonic song.

Oh, one last thing, I dunno if this is the thread to ask, but this has been bugging me. What song does Egg Hangar use in Transformed for both it's intro and track theme? I can't find it anywhere, yet it sounds so familiar.

I know this track wasn't going to be included on the game in the first place, but at this point it's impossible not to relate it to Sonic Xtreme...I just love it!

Wow, I'm kinda shocked. I've heard this track many times before but I had no idea it was originally from Sonic Xtreme. Not sure how I managed that.

Sonic Rush Adventure Music - Sky Babylon act 1&2 mix

Nobody can use an air horn as epic as Sonic Team!

Sonic Chronicles The Dark Brotherhood - Ix: Final Boss

Nobody can turn a decent Final Boss song into a wasted song as Bioware!

Tails level(Canyon Cruise) from The Fighters. It's really relaxing and smooth. And the melody sometimes reminds of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az6eEJi1-pE.

Desert Palace. It's like Sandopolis, but better! I think many people skipped Sonic 3's multiplayer mode for some reason. I know it's not as fun as Sonic 2's multiplayer, but just because of that, some people never heard its amazing soundtracks. Azure Lake, Chrome Gadget, Endless Mine, Balloon Park, they're all really good.

I'll be honest, I liked Shadow the Hedgehog, the game was amazing, IMO.

I have a very good friend, he's a Shadow nut (Like I am a Sonic nut), and one thing we both love about the game is the music.

I'm going to throw these out there, just because I thought they were good.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This one was good, not the best, but I liked the beat of it. I like how it's pretty much a stamp on Shadow's brain from SEGA saying Shadow isn't going to go crazy about his past anymore. (If you want to put it that way!)

Here's another good one.

Sure, sure. It was a little dark, but I thought it was cool.

"Wish I may, wish I might, be someone else tonight. Sometimes I wish I was never born at all, then I'll try to save the world, because in the end I know, I'm The Chosen One."

Cool right? Maybe not to some, but to me it is.

Last but most certainly not least, I have to totally say Wave Ocean's "The Inlet".

(Link doesn't work :/)

Since I'm one of those few that loved Sonic '06, I'm going to throw out that when I played this game the FIRST time, back in '06, first time I heard Sonic say "Uh-oh, we're not gonna make it...Let's speed up!" I knew shit was going down. I'd hear that epic music that totally fit the suspense the stage threw out with Sonic chasing down the flying battleship (the name slips my mind, I about said Egg Carrier, I'm a total Adventure nut.) My favorite part of that level, at that time, was the parts where you did the epic wall jump from those pillars in the ocean. AMAZING!!!!!

Oh God, a music topic. It's so hard to restrain myself from making a huge list here.

Oil Ocean - a pretty awesome track from Sonic 2 but I think it's forgotten because it's in the same game as Chemical Plant, Mystic Cave or Metropolis.

Casino Night (2P Mode) Better than the 1P Casino Night music.

Mystic Cave (2P Mode) That bassline kicks ass.

All of the Competition music from Sonic 3, including the menu music, which was quite different from anything else in a Sonic game at the time. Chrome Gadget is the best out of all of them, though.

Quartz Quadrant Present (JP Version) - When you think of Sonic CD, you probably think of Palmtree Panic or Stardust Speedway. But my jam from that game is Quartz Quadrant! One of my favorite pieces of Sonic music ever. I love the change of pace and tone throughout the song.

Sonic 3D Blast - Genesis soundtrack >>>>> Saturn Soundtrack.

Having better quality music on the Saturn version doesn't mean the music is more enjoyable for me. The Genesis soundtrack fits right in with the classic trilogy for its awesomeness. More Sonic-y and memorable compared to the Saturn music I still can't remember after listening to it repeatedly.

Ice Mountain Act 1....can't really explain this one. It's beautiful.

Techno Base Act 2 for sampling the Amen Break on the GBA system.

Sky Troops, even if it is repetitive.

Splash Canyon from Sonic Riders, because I'm addicted to Drum N Bass.

Coral Cave.        ...Just Coral Cave.

A lot of the night stages' music from Unleashed go unappreciated just because the night stages sucked, but the music is very appropriate for each setting. Jungle Joyride and Cool Edge have wonderful night stage music.

The 8-bit remix of Starlight Carnival used in Game Land.

Lost Labyrinth Act 1 and Sylvania Castle Act 2. Don't hate me.

And finally from Generations: The Skill Shop and Silver's boss theme.

Ok, I'm done.

I love Knuckles Chaotix some damn much. I just don't get the hate for it, I could go on and on about why I love the game,

but for now I'll leave some of my favourite music from it.

On top of that all the 2 player music from Sonic 3.

- This one was forgotten because everyone else was too busy making fun of the one that invested from Metal Man.

Actually it's Flash Man, not Metal Man.

And apparantly Kingdom Valley sounds like a song in Chrono Cross.

- Speak of the devil. Even with all those blasted Death Testicles, the music manages to triumph. My favourite part is probably Rouge's section, in which the music gives me the image of an abandoned shipyard.

I personally think of that part as her flying through a dark, cloudy thuderstorm, blizzard and firestorm at the same time. You can practically imagine the thunderbolts in that part.

Doesn't that sound like it fell right out of SA2? It's great! I can't think of a better track for a beach stage like this. It's only a shame it's so short.

Ohhhh hellll yes!

Seconding this as one of the unappreciated pieces of music. You can usually find at least one nugget of gold in the pile of garbage.

As for a more personal vote, I'd say Westopolis. It really fit the chaos of the wartorn city, and I think it really made the game feel like it was going to be great, what with the city on fire and GUN and Black Arms forces lobbing their arsenals at eachother. Now, after that the game was a letdown but the first level? Man it was epic, and the track definitely helped in that regard.

I'd also like to nominate the entire US Soundtrack. Here are some examples:

Not only does it manage to keep the Good Future theme going, but it's also a fitting track to race Metal Sonic to.

Also, dat guitar breakdown at 0:37.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDlRF4xgRnk

This is such a beautiful track, fitting for the prospering diamond mine Quartz Quadrant has become in the Good Future.

Tidal Tempest Bad Future

This one is hauntingly beautiful and also a bit eerie, and it sets the tone of a dead/dying swampland PERFECTLY.It's a great way of saying, "Sonic, you dun goofed." the female vocals don't hurt, either.

But of course, all this is left for dead in favor of the Japanese version, which is good too, but I think the US soundtrack is direly under-appreciated.

This song isn't as forgotten as is it is official as it was cut from the Shadow the Hedgehog (game), it needs to return to the soundtrack.

Edit:

"Sonic Electronic" is a song from the arcade game SegaSonic the Hedgehog. It was featured in the Sonic the Hedgehog (album)

Edit:

It's easy to miss this one as it lacks an official name.

G.U.N Fortress.

The use of the soft rock sound was very fitting for the last "dark" stage and with the humans losing to the black arms. I actually didn't expect to hear this music in the level.

- Despite it being too short, I really like how energetic and pumping it is.

- This track sounds beautiful. I always used to stay on the map so the music wouldn't stop playing, it was quite peaceful too.

- This track brings such a happy and positive vibe.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8rpj92zYCs- Very fitting for the credits, I really like the addition of techno music. It's quite relaxing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0lVtyMUVkA- This track is pretty rocking! I really like the intro of it.

- This track is pretty catchy and fun. Both stages were also fun and enjoyable so it

Sealed Ground - A pretty awesome track. I liked the instrument which was used in this as it really enhances the ancient mood of the Gigan Rocks.

The Divine Wings - What I like about this track is how uplifting and calm it is at the beginning then it starts to build up with a more twisted feeling which makes you think that something bad is coming.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVDzRGhYlbk/

- This track is very sweet sounding. It brings such a strong and heart-warming vibe and this was also brought in the cutscenes too.

Solaris Phase 1

It's really underrated. Even though I prefer Phase 2, this still sounds epic. It made the battle against Solaris seem more dramatic in a way.

(I might post more later).

I always liked the CD soundtracks as showing the dangers of cultural conditioning. Most American gamers overwhelmingly prefer the US version and most non-American gamers prefer the JPN/PAL version from what I've noticed. It really shows how a person's tastes are strongly influenced by what they grew up in.

But I digress. The American soundtrack is lovely too and it's a shame that it's the JPN/PAL versions that tend to get all the love and attention.

I like looking up Sonic OSTs and finding music that I didn't notice in game or just weren't included in the game,     those that were written for the games but where never even sold to Sega are nice finds too (Who I Am by Magna-fi, it's no wonder why they didn't want Sega to have it.)

Yellow Sneakers - SaTSR soundtrack, sounds a lot like something out of the Sonic Rush series (almost all of the tunes from the party mode do), but without being made for the limitations of a DS and with a slight Arabian edge.

Cutscene music in general tends to get overlooked,I guess it tends to get overshadowed by what characters are doing.

Sandstorm-SatSR soundtrack,fast-paced tune with a real Arabian and slight eerie quality, most of SatSR's cutscene music is quite eerie and ethereal.

Live life, Merlina & Sonic - SaTBK,extremely similar to the music in the last cutscene (it isn't the same) both a tad more bitterweet than even the main version.

Always - Unleashed, final cutscene; Really gives the feeling of a satisfying finale to this beloved (to me) game, the bittersweet parting of friends, the end of a fantastic adventure and the promise of endless possibility bright new adventures just on the horizon.

BTW, Second on Sega Carnival, it's a fantastic track, SO cheerful.

Sonic 3D Blast's Final Fight music is a forgotten gem. It's so unique-sounding in tone for a Sonic final boss theme

It sounds....happy? Magical? It's a very catchy song. I was fairly annoyed when Chronicles botched everything that makes it memorable.

FTW...but I used to like this one

Tune for Twinkle Circuit in Sonic Adventure which sounds like a remix of It Dosen't Matter and Believe in myself.

Only appeared in Sonic Adventure due to Gamma's tragic fate.

Sonic Unleashed: Temple Music only appeared in one cut scene

Sonic and the Black Knight - Through the Fire

The music that plays when you battle Sir Lancelot, Sir Gawain, and Sir Percival.

Sonic and the Black Knight "Fight the Knight" plays when you fight the Black Knight for the second time.

Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie "Look-a like"

Sonic the Fighters Never Let It Go Metal Sonic's Theme

Nonaggression, before it kicks into pinch mode.

Pretty epic boss fight music. Way better than the final boss music in Advance 1 or 2.
