Forgotten gems in Sonic soundtracks?

Speaking of, what about the credits that might've been in S3&K?

Sonic 3 Complete actually uses this!

Also all three Marble Garden fanboys are crying.

Ice Mountain Act 1 is an amazingly beautiful track, but it gets most of the credit. Act 2 is another fantastic score, much more actiony and fast paced while retaining the beauty of the thing. Such a great level and level theme.

Everyone knows and loves about Sonic 3's "Stranger in Moscow" credits, but what about the S3K PC credits version?

Like the Genesis version, it has a very nice soothing "end-of-game/sunset" feel to it. I like the FM Synthesizer version (which I linked here) because it has more of a solemn feel than the General MIDI version, which I also like because I think it has a more Genesis-based feel than the FM Synth version.

The S3K PC Competition music is also one really good piece of work, very upbeat and groovy compared to the slow-paced Genesis version. I think the MIDI version here is better than the FM version.

I think fans like 3D Blast enough that the Gen and Saturn soundtracks are appreciated, but it's always the same tunes, the ones recycled in Adventure or Chronicles. I never see Spring Stadium on any lists, even though this tune surprises me each time I play the game. It's lonely for a carnival level, so it's different for me than something like Casino Night.

Sweet Mountain Map Theme. Unsure if this is forgotten, but it took me a while to find it after hearing it in a Colors trailer. It has a certain old school feel after the first section while also reminding me of Sonic Rush.

I don't see a lot of the good ending posted for Sonic 2 GG. It's exclusive to the Game Gear version, I'm told the bad theme plays for both endings on the Master System. I consider this whole game the best in 8-bit tunes.

My favorite tune from Chaotix isn't level music and it's not Door into Summer either, which seems to be a favorite. This song is the dusk hub level music in the game, meaning it will only ever appear every few levels cleared. I dunno why but it's just so sweet to spin in from whatever act you cleared to this song's opening. It's a nighttime song. It's only about 30 seconds, but I used to sit and listen to it whenever the day cycled to the dusk hub. It's better because you wait for it.

And of course all the Unleashed night tunes are unrealized because of the combat music. My favorite Werehog stage also had some dark and dangerous tones to the music. But I think a lot of people actually like this one.

This.

Sand Hill is that one 'level' (it's just a subgame after all) that no-one cares about at all, and therefore its beautiful track is not remembered, which is a real shame. From the Indian-esque chants at the beginning to the very end, it's an amazing song and really gives a Sandopolis feel, which fits the level itself like a glove.

This is going to sound weird, but the special stage music in Sonic Advance. I don't know what it is about that piece of music, but I really like it. It seems to fit the stage more than the others and has some great tunes as well as catchy, definitely one of the classics.

As much people remember the Scrap Brain from Sonic 1, I'm sad not as many people remember the Game Gear iteration:

I mean , the original 16-bit version may be the classic version. Though it can't be denied that the Game Gear version isn't a damn fine track on its own.

I finally had a chance to listen to the PC music for Carnival Night, Ice Cap and Launch Base. The alternative tracks are optional in the latest version of Sonic 3 Complete. I really like the different take on the zones. Special mention to Carnival Night Act 2 and Ice Cap Acts 1&2 tracks. I also like Launch Base Act 2's music.

CN Act 2 - This music really suits the carnival theme.

IC Act 1 - A much happier theme compared to the Genesis tracks.

I think that a lot of the Sonic series' cutscene music contains a ton of gems. Reasons that they don't stand out as much are because the tracks are short-lived due to the cutscenes not being very long themselves as well as the music being overshadowed by the conversations of the characters in them. One of the tracks that really stood out to me from the cutscenes is "Base" from Sonic Adventure 2:

In case you are curious, here is a cutscene that the track was in:

It's kinda hard to pay attention to this short, yet sweet tune while you have the banter between Dr. Eggman, Rouge and Shadow going on at the same time that the music plays during the cutscene.

I love this track, it has a very relaxing and peaceful vibe to it, reminding me of elevator music even. I love this track so much that I made it my ringtone for my cell phone. smile.png

I'm going to get so much shit for this, but I love the Akon rendition of Sweet Sweet Sweet in Sonic 06. I find it a bit disturbing in the context of the game, because it gives me the impression it's talking about Sonic and Elise in a relationship, but it's great as a song on its own. It's basically the "Dreams Come True" version in English, but with different instruments used. I love the melody, the lady singing has a beautiful singing voice, and I also like Akon's backup vocals.

I never quite understood why the '06 version of Sweet Dreams/Sweet Sweet Sweet got so much flak. I really like them both.

This song feels REEEEEAAAAALLY atmospheric in comparison to quite a lot of other songs in SA2. Listening to this song while actually playing the level can legitimately give me chills. Unfortunately, it's from the SA2 soundtrack, meaning it's usually overlooked by overrated tracks such as City Escape's and Metal Harbor's.

I've always found the Knuckles rap songs in Sonic Adventure 2 to be enjoyable guilty pleasures, and Death Chamber is no exception. It starts off with a very soothing musical piece, and breaks off into Jazz with rap vocals. I'm a sucker for Jazz, and this is easily my favorite Knuckles treasure hunting song next to Meteor Herd.

So I went through the entire thread and didn't see any of these gems listed so here we go!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHnKlP8GbNQ

This arrangement is so much better than the one found in Sonic Triple Trouble, I just feel that the different instrumentation and pitch of the instruments in STT sort of ruin the potential that this version had. Of course I love both versions but this one sounds more serious.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z14viYrpzgM

This is such a epic theme, it's my favorite from the 8 bit Sonic games and fits the final level pretty well. It also fits the intro better than the GG version as it's more serious while the GG intro is too upbeat giving the situation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaa6zfk9wjc

While the GG version of this song fits the level better, this version sounds much better IMO. It's upbeat, and catchy while the GG version is jazzy a slow. Still both themes are great, this one stands out above the other one IMO.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlzjkpvaYX8

This is my favorite theme in Knuckles Chaotix and it only plays at the character select screen. It's mellow like the rest of the soundtrack and I love mellow jazz. I can listen to this song over and over again and not get tired of it. xD

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYZTl6I_8LE

I absolutely love this remix, and it's only on Sonic Gems Collection. I've never owned this game but downloaded the soundtrack a while back and thought this was the best remixed track on it.

This is my favorite Sonic and Knuckles Collection remix of this song, it has different versions of course depending on the sound chip your computer had at the time. While this song doesn't necessarly fit Launch Base Act 1, it's much more catchier than the Genesis counterpart.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-d-OecNKTTM

I'm more of a fan of the JPN Sonic CD soundtrack but this is probably my favorite song besides Sonic Boom and Tidal Tempest Present and Bad Future on the US soundtrack.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmmR9SBdf9I

Not to many people say they love the SS theme from Sonic CD (JPN), so I added it to my list. I love this song so much better than the US version it fits the special stage much better because it pumps you up. Plus it's a strange trance theme that fits the strange SS.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEQgqawi5hY

This fits the D.A. Garden much better than the US version does. First off, the US version is similar to a few tracks already on the soundtrack, and the birds chirping fits Little Planet better than an electric guitar. tongue.png

WOW, Sunset Park Zone boss theme was in Chaos?! I never knew that. That is really cool, I actually really like that arrangement too which makes me wonder. Why did they re-use it in Triple Trouble?

It was an unused track in Chaos, either hidden inside the ROM or stuck at the end of the Sound Test, if I'm not mistaken. They probably decided to reuse the medley for Triple Trouble or something.

It was indeed unused, there's another hidden track within the sound test that also went unused. I wonder what they were planning on using it for in the first place... Speaking of another unused song there's a pretty awesome song found in Sonic 2 SMS. I've used it as the music for the level select in Sonic 2 Remixed, my Sonic 2 SMS hack. I think it fits it pretty well. smile.png The only way you can hear it in game is if you hack the ROM itself though.

They probably had no use for it in Chaos(for what ever reason) but decided that they liked the theme so much that they put it in the sequel.
