Played up to Metropolis with Tails so far, gunna finish him and solo Sonic at lunch. I found a few 1-up areas Tails can only get to. There was a whole section of Hill Top that seemed to be just for him, had to fly up a wall covered in spikes.

Also a possible glitch for Tails, if your flying high enough in Aquatic Ruin Act II you can fly over the area that triggers the boss fight and land on the capsule and finish the act without fighting the boss haha

When you complete a story in Sonic 2 you can now replay any level from that story/save file (collect missing emeralds etc). Thank you S&T for adding this. I love the menu:

leg9mZH.png

The box with an X is Hidden Palace. I need to unlock it. Think I will do that now biggrin.png

I also encountered the best glitch ever. I should have screencapped it.

When I was playing as Knuckles in Casino Night Act 2, I had over 50 rings so I morphed in Super Knuckles. I then went into a slot machine, got three Eggman and lost all my rings. However, when I exited the slot machine Knuckles didn't lose his super form. Also, the ring counter disappeared. It didn't say zero rings. The font that shows the number of rings had disappeared completely. So I stayed as Super Knuckles throughout the rest of the zone!

Knuckles was immortal! Super for all enternity!!!

Fuck yes.

Part of me hopes they patch this kind of level select into Sonic 1 -or even into CD.

Do we know how to access this menu yet? I want my Sonic 3 shields. sad.png

On No Save, Level Select, press "00" on the Sound Test 3 times. Might be 4 times, but yeah just press it a few times til it appears!

Also you can get Sonic 3 shields by going on debug mode and using the 3-shields moniter, but that's a bit more outta the way.

EDIT: 618f3be898b5c5f887ab57bdebf71314.png

Understandable! But woulda been nice for them to stuff it in somewhere or have an option or somethin. I just love that unused Hidden Palace Zone theme!

Just beat the game with Knuckles. Death Egg zone was a nightmare until I worked out the perfect technique.

zu3ZfBh.png

When the Egg Robot lands after targeting Knuckles, the ER's belly briefly moves downwards. That is where you strike. Position Knuckles just in front of the ER's legs, and then jump straight upwards when the ER lands and it's belly flops down, to land a hit. Then quickly spindash to safety. Repeat the technique. Tricky, but probably the safest method.

Knuckles was getting cocky when fighting Mecha/Silver Sonic. Knuckles felt that Mecha Sonic was beneath him tongue.png

Can't argue with that reasoning, but I agree they should make it an option.

I can totally argue with the reasoning. It's a majestic and magical looking level. It certainly fits the appearance. Plus, it was originally intended to be used there. Oh well. Can't complain that Hidden Palace has at long last been made official and has a fantastic layout. The music is easy to brush aside.

Hmm I wonder if the iOS version being unable to go into "complete" with the save files is messing with unlocks. I've won the game with Sonic & Tails, Tails and Knuckles. Just got sonic solo to go. All with every chaos emerald and hidden palace won't unlock even tho I've been there with every character I've won the game with >.<

Argh i hate the special stages, I have NO hope of getting all the emeralds before CP Zone!

Also potential glitch? When I got an Enerald in CP2 I restarted the level, when I tried to get another emerald I failed but restarted the level when I left the SS, tried again on the same life and failed the SS again , but this time the level didn't restart. :/

Don't think thats a glitch, each time you choose to restart, be it in a level or a special stage you lose a life. If your on your last life you can't restart no matter where you are.

So my girlfriend has been trying to get Sonic 2 to work on her phone all day... and she's just told me this...

Aparently the game will not start up at all unless you enter your google+ profile data into it?

Erm... Is this something new or what? Why does the game need that information in order to play?

Yeah I noticed that too, it seems like you can't play it unless you connect it to a Google+ Account.

Which is ridiculous but even more annoying that Google are forcing everyone to get one of these things lately.

(No matter what they want or what they say it's not gonna become the next big social network it's way too fucking convoluted and lacking privacy god dammit Google)

The Google+ popup is a drawback of the Google Play API. Google Plus is required to use the service, and it's used for 2P vs mode, achievements, and leaderboards, and it was being a bit finnicky about when and how it was activated. You don't actually have to log in to anything just to play the single-player game, though

About the google+ thing : I launch the game, turn the internet off, hit the backbutton, and then turn the internet back on to play without it harassing me. It might be more trouble than it's worth though.

Google doesn't seem to want to let you know that you can skip login, but yeah, you can. You don't have to disable the internet, though. Just using the back-button puts you into a position to get around it

There's a new build on the way that addresses those. We submitted it before release, but the process for iOS didn't allow us to replace the initial submission with it

Sorry I meant when I left the special stage I had restarted the actual level, rather than at the star post. Figured it out anyway, if you restart in a special stage I guess it counts you as restarting the level, so as long as you can gather 100 Tina before the star post you technically have unlimited tries (I am currently exploiting it on CP2)

Finally beat Death Egg. It was harder than I remember it, even as Knuckles. I think something may be up with the Death Egg Robot's hitbox.

I always found Death Egg easy as pie if your not in a great rush. Trying to go fast and bopping him as he walks is a test of skill tho, if his spike hands are even a tad too far out you land on them and die haha. Pretty simple mechanics if you take it slow tho, just attack as he lands and is bending down then run away and rinse and repeat and he won't ever hit you. That works especially well for Knux who can't jump as high.

And Silver Sonic is a pushover, always has been with any character. Spindash on the spot where he lands but just far enough forward that his chainsaw spikes aren't near you and you can hit him 4 times and then let go and spindash away before he rolls up the first time. Then jump over him, when he uncurls hit him on the head a few times and he's done. All in 15 or so seconds. If your a bit slow you may have to spindash him once as he rockets away on his shoes, if your in a ball he can't hurt you during that part.

Those have been my tactics since the Mega Drive days.

I'm a bit disappointed in Hidden Palace.

- It plays Mystic Cave 2P music

- There are no traces of the prototype level design

Actually, I was wrong about the latter fact - there's a piece of the prototype level design in the middle of the stage.

My question is why they used THAT song for Hidden Palace instead of this one

Also, disappointed that there was no cutscene or anything. This zone was supossedly to show how Sonic became super, but we didn't get it

The cutscene isn't there because the original game didn't include it. It would probably be too much of a change. I would have liked them to have used $10 for the music though, but can't complain.

Say, does anyone have video of the new ending sequence? I've been dying to see it.

Skip to the end. Naturally, it contains spoilers...

That's the Android version. The iOS one lacks Death Egg Robot in the background

I'm actually enjoying the remake, I remember the special stages being harder though. Like the Sonic 1 HD, I would recommend plugging your phone/pc to your TV if you can. You will actually enjoy it more.

Is there the ability to turn off music like in Sonic CD?  If so at least there's that for playing with the original HPZ music.

I'm gonna rant again about online multiplayer because it's HORRIBLE. Shitty synchronisation, random collission detection glitches that prevent you from going through loops, teleport never works as it should (it usually teleports one player to the other, sometimes it doesn't work at all), game getting stuck at "Waiting for player", camera stops following player who is falling behind and endless lagging. Special Stages are unplayable unless there's no lag, there's HUGE delay in opponent's moves - he constantly appears to be off the side from you while actually he's right in front of you collecting YOUR rings. His ring counter appears to be completely independent from what is actually going on the screen.

It's the worst online multiplayer I've seen so far.

The multiplayer issues were flagged before it even came out. StealthTax have been working on it and are waiting to update it.

I wonder if the team or StealthTax were privy to the information regarding the true purpose of the original HPZ in Sonic 2?

Since it was discovered there have been sooo many different interpretations of it. Was Tails the Chaos Emerald guardian? Was it a different part of another level? Was it even a level at all and just used for a cutscene where Sonic gets the ability to become Super Sonic?

A lot of people are sad that track 10 isn't the HPZ music in this version, but.. maybe that track never was the HPZ music? Or maybe HPZ was just a cutscene that would play that music? Maybe the MCZ2P music was always intended to play in a stage version of HPZ (since a lot of people reckon a lot of multiplayer stage music was originally intended to be used in the main game anyway for cut zones like wood zone)? Even now that the stage is finished and officially released, there are still a lot of questions about its past.

I'd love to know someday what it was originally intended to be, in full, and how much of that was kept for this remastered version.
