Fuck this pretentious bullshit trend of naming sequels and reboots after the first installment.

I hate it too. It's not only confusing as shit when you have to refer to one or the other, but it's implying that the new one is the "definitive" version and is "better" than that "old" one, even though half the time these versions aren't as good as the originals they're named after. It's like Sonic 2006 being called "Sonic the Hedgehog" all over again, but hopefully not that bad.

This is the previous Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver draft before Trevorrow and Derek Connolly rewrote the script:

JURASSIC PARK 4, set in present day Isla Nublar, is now an actual theme park, as originally intended by John Hammond in the first film. It garners 10 million visitors per year and is completely safe – until it’s not. The park itself is described as very Sea World-esque and includes an area called the Isla Nublar Lagoon. That means underwater dino’s for the first time. No indication of what kind, but there’s concept art showing one of the aquatic dino’s, as part of a show, jumping out of the lagoon and eating a strung up great white shark like it was a fish for a dolphin at sea world. As part of a show, you ask?

That’s right, folks, this will feature “tamed” dino’s. In fact, our source indicated that the usually menacing Velociraptors (which will finally be muzzled, along with the T-Rex – until they’re not) will actually be used to help fight the threat, which begins in the form of a new dinosaur, not seen in any of the previous films (and not disclosed to us) shows to be much smarter than originally thought and is the main cause of havoc breaking out at the park.

So in that script, they took the San Francisco location and just dropped it in Nublar.

I'm also having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that the same US and Costa Rican governments who escorted a container ship with a single adult T-Rex in it back to Sorna with an entire flotilla of warships would just allow some more idiots to build a theme park filled with dinosaurs in it.

That sounds absolutely dreadful and nothing like what Crichton would have done! :P I mean, tame velociraptors?! :D

Also I hate to nitpick but there were also no such thing as "water dinosaurs". They were plesiosaurs, a different order of species on a different evolutionary strand from dinosaurs! [/nerd mode activated]

Steven Spielberg is returning as producer of the fourth film.

'Jurassic Park 4' to "honor what's come before", won't be reboot

Jurassic Park 4 director Colin Trevorrow has discussed his approach to the blockbuster sequel.

The Safety Not Guaranteed filmmaker, who is working on the new film with co-writer Derek Connolly and producer Steven Spielberg, hinted that Jurassic Park 4 won't be a complete reboot of the series.

"We don't want to create a new scoop here, but we definitely want to honor what came before us," Trevorrow told Schmoes Know.

The director added that he is having an "incredible" experience working with Spielberg on the project.

"[He] has such an incredible filmic knowledge and just understands the language of the story in a way that for us is very refreshing," he said.

"It's not like getting notes from a studio executive, it's really just trying to crack this and make it the best it can be."

On the pressure of making another Jurassic Park, he added: "We are very aware of how much a certain generation especially cares about this movie and we talk about it all the time and really the conversation is - it's not about us, it's not about our careers, it's how do we make something that can stand with the first one."

Jurassic Park 4 will open in cinemas in 2015, and reportedly feature underwater dinosaurs and a return to the Isla Nublar location of the original.

Could be worse... it could be called Jurassic Park ONE.

It will really have to try hard to outshit the third one. I'm expecting something enjoyable but not as good as the first or second.

The second was good?

Tell me more.

Wrong as Jurassic Park 4 is now titled "Jurassic World"

On the same day Disney takes “Pirates of the Caribbean 5″ off its 2015 calendar, Universal has dated “Jurassic World,” the next installment in the “Jurassic Park,” franchise for June 12, 2015.

Colin Trevorrow will direct with a screenplay he co-wrote with Derek Connolly.

Plot details have not been released. Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley are producing.

In May, Uni post-poned production on the project in order for Trevorrow and Connolly to take a pass at an original draft by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and allow exec producer Steven Spielberg to give his notes as well.

The 2015 summer is already looking at a very competitive year with “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” a new “Batman-Superman” film and the next installment of the “Star Wars” franchise all expected to bow in 2015 and now auds can expect this film as well.

With the script now turned in, the studio will now look to casting the film. Uni had been eyeing Bryce Dallas Howard, David Oyelowo and Garrett Hedlund to star when they were prepping prior to the postponement and sources say they are still favorites to get offers when those go out.

Really glad they chose a new name instead of slapping another number onto the original name or just using the original name as if it was a reboot. This name could also work as a the start of a new trilogy within the original film franchise.

Also like how this logo is mostly similar to the original logo, but with a few changes in terms of text ("Park" now being "World") and color scheme (the gradient gray-silver/blue color scheme compared to the original black/red color scheme). I think it's a nice touch.

Current rumors suggest that the film will be set in an already up-and-running dinosaur theme park, which sounds to me  like the perfect way to set up a really interesting sequel. The visual spectacle of it all, both before and after everything brown and tinky hits the fan, has so much potential, and in a bustling theme park environment you'd have a much larger number of people trying to survive (and therefore, more deaths) than we've seen before.

It could also act as a reboot of sorts; one that doesn't ignore the previous films, but doesn't necessarily need to lean on them either.

I'm quietly confident about this one. People will I'm sure cry sequel and claim disinterest based on the last film(s), but dinosaurs will be back on our screens wrecking shit up, and that's awesome. I'm prepared to be skeptical when there's something tangible to judge, but until then - bring it on!

Bryce Dallas Howard is officially the first actor on board.

Universal has a release date set for June 12, 2015, and Bryce Dallas Howard is officially the first actor on board. Variety tells us that there’s another major character that needs to be cast before the movie moves into the pre-production phase. (We’re thinking this obviously means a male lead for the film.)
The Huffington Post reports there are rumors that Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum could be back for more dino-fun as well, and it would be great to see Goldblum back in the game as well.

It's great they're using practical effects and all but umm...

where are the feathers?! As a dinosaur nut, that bothers me.

I think they are going for continuity over science. They'll probably say they're genetically modified to remove feathers. Anything that pisses off Jack "T-Rex is a scavenger" Horner is ok by me really.

I hope they give some kind of explanation or just not call it a Velociraptor anymore. By now, almost everyone should know that it was Velociraptor who had feathers and it was only around three feet tall. The much taller one without feathers, which is the one these movies depict, is actually a Deinonychus or Utahraptor. /nerd

I'm actually fine with the velociraptors having no feathers. Now all this movie needs is a scene with a T Rex ripping apart a Spinosaurus.

I love the poster at the very top with the boy gazing at the massive Mosasaur but I HATE the one with that scientist lady and Indominus. The Chris Pratt one is aight, but it looks cheesy as hell.

Anyway, can't wait for that new trailer! 8D

It still irks me how they made that Mosasaur so huge. They weren't like that, man... but I guess they can fob us off by sprinkling "genetic engineering" and similar terms throughout the expositionary dialogue.
