The Next Generation and Sonic

Guys, it's here.

THE NEXT GENERATION,IS HERE!

Wow_excited_face1.jpg

Yeah okay, so not everyone is all ecstatic about what we've see from the next generation, but there is a lot of promise. Especially with our favorite Hedgehog Sonic! Sega is most likely working on a game that will be on the next gen consoles.  There is a lot that could be changed, added, etc. What is it you want to see done with Sonic in the next generations? Do you think much will change? What good can come of Sonic on next gen platforms?

Personally for me, I think space is the biggest positive I see from this. More levels, content, extra's, all that jazz. This could mean less reliance on DLC for more content, and just a bigger focus on the game itself. Graphically, I am interested to see how much better the games turn out.

However I still would want to see games for the 360 and PS3. Mainly due to me either not wanting at the moment any of the next gen consoles, or not having the money to buy one.:P

Well, we never got our DLC for Generations which sucks. Hopefully the Wii U will get a nice game like maybe a SUPER SPESHUL ULTIMATE VERSHUN OF SONIC GENERATIONS WITH MULTIPLAYERS AND NOT 2 SONICS RACING.

I really want the expanded visual detail of Unleashed and Generations, and have the environments a lot more open, making it feel somewhat more...expansive, if that's the right word. If they get it to be 60 FPS, this would be the best thing.

I can't think of anything I want out of Sonic that the next gen consoles could do that current ones can't.

As long as it's released on PC and properly optimized so that it can draw from the full power of the CPU properly, as well as not having one single file that causes a huge amount of slowdown at random for no reason, unlike Generations and Chemical Plant... then I really don't mind. Can't really imagine the visuals becoming more beautiful than they are besides more polygons to smooth things out or slightly higher texture quality, or the levels becoming much bigger after how thorough they had to be with Generations' ones.

Just give me more of the Unleashed and Colours art direction and Modern's gameplay with a carefully done PC version, I guess.

This forever.

Not like it'll matter; I won't be buying either of the new consoles.

For a long time I really wanted a 3DS game that expanded the touch-screen gameplay of the special stages and travelling mini-games of the DS trilogy.  However the fact that Sonic would have to be on the touch-screen, sacrificing 3D graphics, kind of made the idea unappealing.

But just now I thought... duh, the Wii U.  A third game in the storybook series would be a perfect fit.  Use the touch-screen controller to control Sonic and perform actions in a simplified ever-moving-forward platformer like Secret Rings, with movement and gameplay acting like an expanded version of the Rush special stages etc.

Naturally though, I'm hankering for more straight-up Sonic action, so really this should accompany a main traditional title, sort of like how Black Knight shadowed Unleashed.

WiiU is also a Next Gen console you know.:/ Should this next game be a WiiU exclusive, anything the other 2 could do I bet could be replicated on that.

I just hope that they create larger levels and more of them as well. Short levels that take 2 minutes feels really lacking. Especially when there's only like 9 stages. I'd prefer like 3-5 minute stages, and like 12 stages personally.

ehh...QTEs are so overplayed that it would not make a bit of sense to feature Sonic's storybook series. Its like Kingom Hearts without the FF JRPG style attached to it.

Just give the franchise to Irrational Games...they know what to do with these feral furry fantasies..

I know what you mean. Although if you really wanted a lot of stages and a lot of time in them, why not boost the figure all the way up to ten levels and three acts? Maybe fifteen levels - I'm sure next gen can handle them all.

But Sonic - next gen, on PS4 - speedrunner's dreams answered. That new share button is a dream come true indeed.

Now that SEGA has a good formula down, I think they're going to nail this next title really well. It might have taken him anywhere from 10-15 years depending on who you ask, but pretty much everyone's in agreement that the games are at their best since the Classic/Adventure (once more, depending on who you ask) period. He's finally going to be able to rebuild his fallen empire. After a long, brutal civil war and decline, a nation inevitably rebuilds itself better than before.

I expect we'll see more beautiful environments, playing up to the gorgeous nature scenery that's come to be associated with Sonic and his representation of the natural world. I'm sure Eggman's bases will also become more detailed as well to illustrate the ugly artificiality of it all.

At the same time, Iizuka said he wants a new direction for Sonic, and Scarred Sun did share with us that what we're getting is NOT a Generations/Colors clone (at least that's how I interpreted her post), so it sounds like they're trying a new gameplay. Whatever it is, I'm sure they're going to tread carefully with it, and it will probably make the most use of the next gen's capabilities.

Unlikely but maybe the greater processing power would allow something akin to a full-speed adventure field... think a Hyrule Field linking all the stages.

What I want to see done for the next generation of Sonic is for the team behind him to grow some balls and some brains and try to reach beyond what they've done and not make games of wasted potential like Sonic Generations and ESPECIALLY not make atrocities such as Sonic 06 and ShTH.

I'm fully anticipating we'll get some more meat to our story (raising our expectations), but it'll remain lighthearted and most additions will be primarily for humor purposes (simple marketing realities). A casual story anyone could walk into that doesn't take itself too seriously, and that anybody could get into without prior knowledge of the series.

I think it'd be a fair compromise that'd avoid angering either of the two factions in the fanbase.

I'd like to see something like S3&K.

You have two, or three games, they all work fine on their own and hav me satisfying endings that come to a decent conclusion and the threat is dealt with. However on the last game ( of the two or three ) you have it so it tries to find the save data for the previous one or two games. If it can you unlock a "final story" or boss or something that shows Eggman having a bigger plan behind the ones he tried in those games, and those were helping to set it up.

That way the games work fine on their own for the casual player, but for the fan it has extra unlockabke story or something.

I'd like to be able to blast around a pretty much open play area. Jump on the stuff I want, to the tricks I want. Maybe even do some wall running and parkour-esque stuff like that (basically, the Sonic CD intro but 3D!) I seem to remember getting the impression that's what we'd get with Sonic '06, but no.... :'(

Oh yes, and Amy's return as a decent playable character; using the hammer to do a super jump, running without showing off her panties....

Next-gen Sonic games will have the typical scenery pornography the series is known for taken up to ludicrous levels.

I want:

-60 frames per second consistently, at a level of visual detail that is equal to or greater than the previous generation.
-A Playstation Vita Sonic title.
- Sanic Advenchur 3
-New playstyles, or tweaks to the existing formula.

These two need to happen.

The PSV is capable enough to run games of high quality, hence Sony advertising the fact you could play PS4 games on the thing during that conference of there's [or it was made out to be like that]. Not to mention the PS3 games running on the PSV through remote pay.

Therefore, a Sonic game, possibly a spin off or side game to the main series title, could be made on the PSV. And even if not announced straightaway, there's bound to be one, since the PSP got Rivals.
