I'm really digging the bonus ring reward for every enemy you kill "manually" with a non-homing attack or kick attack thing. It's a fantastic way of pleasing a classic-era fan in a totally optional manner, while still acknowledging people like playing in that fashion by giving them a small reward.

I know time trial speed runs are a popular thing in this game, but I hope this kinda leads to more popular competitions of ring or point collecting things. Were using skill like this (amongst other things I'm sure) is totally in the player's hands to get a better ring count/score.

Gotta say, I'm ever-increasingly more excited for this game with every new piece of information I see. Just need one of demz Wii U'z meow.

I'v just had the weirdest thought. What if The Deadly Six are actually Mutated Wisps?

Interesting thought, but like the thought that they are the chaos emeralds personified, doesn't really hold any grounds.

All we know from Izukia Is that they have always lived on Lost Hex and they are a race called the Zeti

Don't know about the actual Frozen Section of it yet. But the Casino portion has a jazzy, Casino-Like remix of the Sonic 3 and Knuckles Save/Load menu's theme. It actually works quite well. You can here it in one of the vids with Aaron Webber if you put on some headphones.

Musical homages we've heard so far; Rooftop Run in Windy Hill, Empire City in Desert Ruins' mach speed section, and File Select in Frozen Factory. Space Queens in final stage's BGM, please. PLEASE.

I listened to the file select song and the Frozen Factory tune from the gameplay, and I don't quite hear the resemblance.

I think that the theories of the Deadly Six being mutated wisps/ personified Chaos Emerald entities aren't the case, Iizuka said they are merely based off Oni, which are bad omens with varying personalities, like some Oni are actually just obnoxious and move stuff around/hide things, others are known to pretty much just moan suck the happy feelings out of you whilst other Oni are actually incredibly dangerous and evil spirits/entities. they're spoken about in Asian folk-lore quite often as unpleasant creatures.

I mean Tomb Raider 2013 touched upon "Oni" with the Storm guard warriors from the island, when you read the Japanese Solider GPS Cache's they keep going on about how the island is "cursed" and that they are being watched and stalked by what they can only call the "Oni".

If I'm perfectly honest, I really like the fact that Iizuka is keeping super hushed up about the plot and the actual deadly six, even when asked about them at SoS he still pretty much stuck to what they said when they first revealed the Deadly Six, which makes me want to actually wait it out to learn more about them, but the fact they're based off Oni, you can expect some of the stronger ones to be real nasty pieces of work.

This trailer is awesome.

Also is it me, or is the music a hectic remix of the desert level's music in the 3DS version? It's noticeable at 0:50, where it seems to riff the desert level's last section before the loop in the 3DS version? Some of the sound effects are also the same in both parts of the music, but it's hard to tell what's soundtrack sounds and what's part of the level I guess.

Heck yeah :)

There might be some pretty challenging clashes Sonic has with these guys in the game. I bet they are going to be super fun to fight.

Calling it now:

Zazz: The tricky one steals and moves things around

Zavok: The strong one uses raw power and strength

Zomom: The Hungry one eats food a lot

Zeena: The Affectionate one loves herself and a bit of a bitch

Zor: The Silent one, always quiet and quick on his feet

Zik: The Wise one, Uses the environment to his advantage, conjures spells...

From the screenshot, Zazz seems to be a chase boss that leaves obstacles for you to avoid, I hope he's not not the first boss, he looks like one of the cooler Zeti by design, him and Zavok are the meaner looking ones.

He's the first boss, well maybe the first major boss if Sonic Team are bringing back mini-bosses.

The other is that there really should be an upper path of some sort.  Like some mystic path floating in the air that's narrow and difficult to traverse as well as being more of a challenge to get to, but is overall more rewarding due to, say extra lives and ring capsules being placed on said route (maybe it could be constructed of floating rocks or magic carpets?).  Take the first point in the trailer where Sonic spindashes up the ramp.

*snip*

It looks damn cool and demonstrates the physics in this game are pretty solid and whilst it looks fun to go up the ramp it doesn't actually take you anywhere.

I don't disagree about wanting more tiered paths, but I think there is a reason for the ramp; I'm guessing the sand slows you down, and the ramp lets you ramp over an otherwise unavoidable patch of it, if you're good enough.

If the character select music from sonic 3 is in Neon Factory (I'm calling it that) is it true that the creators of the genesis games music are involved with the Unleashed music creator

Actually that would make a lot of sense. I can't believe I didn't really notice before that Sonic is on a sort of path surrounded by darker sand.

Hey I just noticed something whilst watching this random piece of gameplay:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzYWScdnSfs

When Sonic actually jumps on an enemy instead of Homing Attacking or kicking them, he gets a ring.  See around the 30 second mark.  Small, but neat little incentive to try to jump on foes.

Reminds me of how there are two ways to defeat Goombas in the Super Mario Galaxy duology-if you defeat a Goomba by spinning into it (the game's standard way of attacking enemies), you get a few Star Bits. But if you defeat a Goomba by instead jumping on it like in past Mario games, you get a coin instead. It's a nice touch.

@SweeCrue: Awesome art!!! I digg it ! : )

Also on something somewhat new, has everyone seen this? apparently during Summer of Sonic, SegaNerds Interviewed Iizuka. Its a nice interview and whatnot, but the important or new bit, is he stated the color powers will be a standard for future Sonic games. Wich is not bad, I love wisps, but seriously, this kinda takes away their originality for me, I mean... they are what made Colors Colors! including em in future games wouldnt be too bad, but I dunno how I feel about it.  Read this and the rest of the interview here:

How do you guys feel about this decision?

Old news mate. I personally don't mind it, but the wisps will definitely get tiresome if they're in EVERY SINGLE SONIC GAME after Lost World.

So the wisps continue to be executed poorly in this game too? Fucking touch activation gimmicks...

Why would it be every single game? I think they'll treat them like characters, they won't appear in literally every game (okay, granted they've barely been using most of the cast recently, but even in the Adventure era days some characters were a bit on and off), but they'll show up if the developers feel like it.

So more recurring than guns but less often than Rings and Emeralds. Probably. I dunno it's hard to predict Sonic Team. :v

The announcement is old, but this article is new.  There's definitely stuff that's new and interesting here such as this:

Zone: 0: Is it fair to say you’re finding it hard to make full use of certain characters like Shadow and Knuckles? It’s been awhile since they’ve had significant roles in a game?

Iizuka: Those sub-characters, Sonic’s friends, play a very important role in the universe. We really do want them to shine. For them to really shine, we have to make sure that Sonic himself actually can take the center stage. We wanted to make sure we focused on Sonic and his gameplay first and made sure that was what we focused on. In the meantime, we’ve had games like Mario & Sonic where the other characters have a place for people to enjoy them. It’s not like they’re completely being sidelined at all.

Also, interesting how in the last paragraph Iizuka says the Colour Powers CAN be activated through the Gamepad.  Not to mention the entire game can be played on the Gamepad as well.

The third is the Color Power actions can be activated through the GamePad. We feel that this use was the most appropriate because it wasn’t like shoehorning in the hardware features into a Sonic game but was a natural fit. To activate the Color Powers, you can use the touch screen to swipe or moving the GamePad.

Using the touch screen "or" moving the GamePad? So there's going to be different ways to activate/use Wisps?

I guess I could see Eagle as being with moving your finger around on the GamePad or simply tilting it or whatever. And laser would probably work either way too. I wonder about Drill and Rocket though...
