Patticus 7,025 Posted May 30, 2013 Perfectly preserved 10,000 year old liquid blood from a Woolly Mammoth. The first time humanity has ever found such a thing, along with muscle tissue - perfectly preserved in the ice - from a Siberian mammoth. The blood had dripped out of the giant animal into a natural ice capsule and it represents a dream discovery for researchers. It comes amid a hotly contested debate on whether scientists should try to recreate the extinct species using DNA, though there now seems little doubt that this WILL happen, and the Russian team from Yakutsk that made the find is working in a partnership with South Korean scientists who are actively seeking to bring the mammoth back to life. http://siberiantimes.com/PICTURES/SCIENCE/mammoths-blood/inside muscles two pieces.jpghttp://siberiantimes.com/PICTURES/SCIENCE/mammoths-blood/inside muscles seen on body.jpg http://siberiantimes.com/upload/information_system_38/9/7/6/item_976/information_items_976.jpg http://siberiantimes.com/science/casestudy/news/exclusive-the-first-pictures-of-blood-from-a-10000-year-old-siberian-woolly-mammoth/ We know what this means, gentlemen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyCzDW_LRPk 14 Felix, Abominal SnowTaz, Misty Milo and 11 others reacted to this

Dr. Homem 2,328 Posted May 30, 2013 Cloning mammoths, that's just silly. But if you drink it, you will turn into Mammoth-Man. The hairiest, and most ornery superhero there is. 10 Jack / Joker, Misty Milo, Kuzu and 7 others reacted to this

Komodin 8,834 Posted May 30, 2013 Hm, I wonder if a mammoth, should it be ever be successfully "revived," would actually be able to survive in the present day...

super saiyan weegee 648 Posted May 30, 2013 Hm, I wonder if a mammoth, should it be ever be successfully "revived," would actually be able to survive in the present day... Probably not in the wild, but in artificial environments, yes.
Conando 3,964 Posted May 30, 2013 More like Pliocene Park, Patticus. Anyway, this definitely is quite the discovery.

Phos 1,093 Posted May 30, 2013 You insert the DNA into an egg cell to make a mammoth zygote.
Frogging101 1,082 Posted May 30, 2013 Still don't completely get how some blood can manifest a entire Mammoth. I suppose the blood contains the mammoth's DNA which would be the entirety of its genetic code, which means that it could theoretically facilitate the growth of a mammoth. See cloning. Conando 3,964 Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) Still don't completely get how some blood can manifest a entire Mammoth. All you need is the genetic code, which can be obtained from blood, and place it into the egg of say an elephant. That's how they clone things. Gabz Girl 4,388 Posted May 30, 2013 Oh my this is incredible! I really hope it will be successful, so that we can finally see a real life woolly mammoth! Shame it's not a dinosaur or a cute little Dodo bird, but hey. 3 A Match in Oil Ocean Zone, King Frosty and Patticus reacted to this

Conando 3,964 Posted May 30, 2013 That scene from American Dad, where the Wooly Mammoth is brought back from the past by the CIA, is going through my head. Except with Sean instead of the CIA.
Debug Ring 1,109 Posted May 30, 2013 It's fact that the Wooly Mammoth was in the world when the pyramids were built, so, yeah, a Sieberian Mammoth is likely to be able to as well. I do hope for a Mammoth revival, they're really cool animals, and it'd be awesome to have them roaming around today.

Nepenthe 37,087 Posted May 30, 2013 Tusk, tusk people. Does every interesting thread have to devolve into puns these days? I'm sorry, I tried my best. ;~; Anyway, I always get giddy when I hear of discoveries like this. I love the thought of being able to see these extinct animals for myself. First mammoths, then the Tasmanian Tiger. Make it happen Science. And as to the calls for dinos and dodos, hasn't it been confirmed that animals born from eggs cannot be revived with these kinds of methods? 3 A Match in Oil Ocean Zone, Celestia and Abominal SnowTaz reacted to this
