Xenoblade Chronicles X [Wii U]

Considering the word "doll" apparently has actual thematic purpose in the Japanese version, the change to "skell" is pretty pointless and I don't understand why they would do it.

Looks like somebody got a hold of the game early (I seem to recall hearing that it got out early in Hong Kong somehow), so we're getting cutscenes now.

This one's been seen since last year at E3, but it's the scene where Elma and the player arrive in New Los Angeles for the first time and we get our first overview of the place.

https://youtu.be/M5GRt6bYJzE

There's a few more from the opening on this account, so soak it in while you can. I just wanted to hear this scene without commentary because I liked what little I could hear of the music. Definitely a great piece.

There's an Iwata Asks for the game. - http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/#/wiiu/xenoblade-chronicles-x/0/0

Here's something in particular, and could explain why the localization is taking so long.

Kojima

Yes. In Xenoblade Chronicles, there were around 3,000 lines that were recorded. It was a large amount of lines at the time, and I remember being heavily scolded by the producer of Monolith Soft. He said "You've spent so much money on the voices, so you better use every single one of them in the game!"

All

(laughs)

Iwata

So he told you to use everything that was recorded. (laughs)

Kojima

That's right. I was told, "You recorded them, so you better use every single one of them!"

Iwata

So, there were 3,000 lines just for the battle scenes, correct?

Kojima

Yes, 3,000 lines of recording just for the battles...but for Xenoblade Chronicles X, it increased to 11,000.

Iwata

11,000 lines?!

Kojima

Yes. There are around 4 times more voice recordings in this game, so it should be especially enjoyable for those who like to listen to character voices.

Iwata

Well...I did expect there to be a push for the voices, and an increase in number...but I was taken off guard that you've increased it to 11,000! (laughs)

Kojima

I honestly thought there were too many zeroes when I first saw the number. (laughs)photo13.jpg

Takahashi

But because there were so many lines, some voice actors lost their voices during the recording.

All

(laughs)

Yokota

They're in-battle voices, so they have to be very loud.

Iwata

Naturally, because there's a lot of shouting during battles.

Yokota

Exactly.

Kojima

Yes, and we had to ask them to keep shouting for hours.

Takeda

Voice actors are voice specialists, so it takes a lot for them to lose their voices. I've worked on jobs requiring a lot of screaming by actors in the past, but I've never seen or heard a professional voice actor lose their voice during a recording.

Kojima

So, I was a bit sorry after this...

Iwata

The localization process must be quite a challenge, too! (laughs)

11,000 lines. 11,000 lines. JUST FOR THE BATTLE DIALOGUE

Yeah, this is gonna take a while.

Watched a few videos on this game and I'm slowly growing interest in it but I don't know how a feel with jrpg games. I like a few RPGs but not sure if I'll like jrpgs.

Either way I can't lie how this games world is soooo flipping huge!!!! Goddamn.

If traveling around in this game is fun and stuff I'll make that whole world my playground lol. I'll have to see more about this game but I'm down for trying something new.

Smash made me like shulk. Where is the monado boy?

If it warms you up to the idea any, Xenoblade X is definitely not a traditional styled JRPG. It's more of a blend of Western and Eastern RPGs.

As for Shulk, he appeared in the original Xenoblade for Wii (and N3DS). X isn't a direct sequel, so Shulk isn't part of this game (unless, of course, his Amiibo unlocks something).

X take place in a different universe than the original Xenoblade, but we do see some connection with the Nopons and some ennemies. And we have some easter eggs like Monado shaped clips on the head of the little mecano girl. (don't remember her name.)

I'm trying to avoid as many spoilers, clips and screenshots of this game as possible but the few things I have seen of it look absolutely stunning! The world is so big, I honestly don't know how I'm even going to get around to do everything. XD

And look how adorably furry Tots is ahhhh <3

So... The game is out in Japan and apparently some people are already posting spoilers on the Miiverse so you might want to watch out for that.

On the other hand, Maximillian (the fighting games stream guy) has been streaming this game last night, it's really cool how you can pretty much go anywhere but the stream itself was kinda boring since the guys had almost no idea about what to do and just wandered aimlessly across Primordia while taking in some views (not to mention that they were hell bent on not having Lyn on the party). There are some very weird textures here and there (they climbed on a pillar shaped cliff and the bushes looked like in a PS1 game XD) but the game looks gorgeous! And I really liked most of the music as well (got used to black tar very quick)... Except for the unique monster theme, that one was a let down. :x

Also, people have been having some fun with the character creator, so far this one is my favorite:

TEAM! UNITE UP!

EDIT: I hadn't gotten much sleep lately, please excuse my horriblenglish . -.

Yeah, it's kinda hard for me to enjoy the footage of the game we're getting now due to the language barrier. Taking in the sights is nice, but not understanding what characters are talking about, not to mention the words on screen, kinda takes away from that. S'not really a big deal since I'm purposefully avoiding anything past the very first part of the game anyway--this is definitely a game where I want to discover everything myself--but yeah.

Also I'm going to have so much fun with the character creator, I swear. Every time I see footage of it I like to pretend it's an edgy version of the Sims

This was posted by one of the members of Max's group "YO! Videogames" after their stream:

https://mobile.twitter.com/DoomAssistMe/status/593344531954733056?p=v

Not to mention, a few weeks ago, they asked on Youtube the help on someone who can translate japanese, but i guess they were unlucky.

There is also a marathon of the game currently on french Web-tv Gaming Live ( in French, duh!), and the streamer mention that in the character creation, between the different females voice-over, you can choose the seiyus of Shion or KOS-MOS (Xenosaga). Shulk'seiyu is also available for the male one.

I saw this screen on GAF, possible (minor) spoiler so be warned:

Also, the game is just out and there is some DLC announced, I see Nintendo is playing catch up with the other companies . _. (mind you, we can't blame them from locked on disc content since the disc couldn't even hold the vanilla game)

I thought Gessenkou was going to post his translations here, but I haven't seen him post (and his Google Doc page hasn't been update), so here's nothing...

About DLC:

1) there’s 4 additional characters, sold 500 Yen each. They come with:

– 3 quests each
– the character itself (who knows its own special Arts and comes with blueprints for a special Doll / Skell). You can unlock both when you complete the 3 quests.
- you also get the “Fashion Equipment” option automatically by completing the three quests of any of those four DLC characters.

Characters (not 100% sure about the transliteration of some names, though):

– HB. Special Arts “Atomic Bash” and “Frame Hand”. Doll/Skell: “POLICEMEN”.
– Boze. Special Arts “Vortex” and “Bayonet Art”. Doll/Skell: “YUMBO”.
– Yelve: Special Arts “Spirit Change” and “Powered Gunner”. Comes with a new category of weapon called “Multigun”, that allows you to switch from cannon, missile, and rifle forms.
– Axana: Special Arts “Over Spec” and “Voltage Max". Doll/Skell: “EXCAVATOR”.

2) Support DLC quests (sold 300 Yen each):

– character growth (XP) [10 quests]
– money [10 quests]
– Kizuna (relationships between the characters) [10 quests]

All those (1 + 2) will be available in a special pack sold 2 000 Yen. The first DLC will be released on May 8th

Still looks like a nice pack, girl looks cute and the glasses guy looks like the default PSO2 Human. (thinking about it, I should probably go make me an Elma on PSO2)

Here's hoping the west version also has them and for $15 or less.

EDIT: LOL

I'm so hyped for this game. I don't mind the change of names. Skell sounds decent enough :P

Btw If you guys are interested NiNTENDOMiNaTi0N is doing a Let's Play. We see the intro and some character customization.

I think I'll have plenty of fun with the customization options, this game is gorgeous.

Woah  ..It's .. It's Glorious! xD I definitely want to get my hands on one of these. If it actually transforms it'll be ten times better, but I doubt it. I mean it doesn't look that far-fetched but both models look great so... maybe it's too good to be true xD  Either way cool stuff!

I need this...I highly doubt we'll get it tho unless it's some cool collector's edition swag. T-T

Wonder how well X is selling in Japan? I'm just glad FFXV isn't around to steal its thunder.

  • 1 month later...

English release has just been confirmed for December 4, 2015!

Little disappointed no dub was featured in the trailer. Hopefully we see some hints of it in the coming months! I'll update again with the current trailer in a bit.

There's no video right now, but they put in a very short teaser of the English dub voices at the end of their Day 3 demo. So far, sounds good!

Lin sounds like she may be voiced by Laura Bailey--similar inflection and delivery. I have no idea who's playing Elma, but I really like the tone of her voice. It'll probably be ripped soon for people to check out.

EDIT: Well that was quick
