Don't know if I'm Late To The Party, but someone commented in my honeycomb level video made a good observation; the song's a remix of Empire City Day!

As the level was not in Unleashed Wii, it's no wonder I never caught that!

The party ended by the time you came.

To be honest I'd be surprised if Crush 40 were involved in this. The music I heard so far varies from OK (Windy Hill) and meh (Honeycomb) to horrible (the rest). I hope they pull their shit together and make some nice tracks for this game because at this point it's the only thing I stayed excited for in SLW.

I'm pretty sure now that ArtFenix believes full on metal guitars with wahs and pedals and really hardcore drums are what is considered good.

Does behaving like that makes you think you're more clever than you actually are or something or you just like trying to troll or provoke me? Could've post something relevant to the topic instead of making yourself look the way you do.

Believe me, metal is not the only genre I listen to. And I think I can tell if the music is good or just bad for me and do I even need to say that music tastes are very subjective and what may seem as a bad music track for one, is an awesome track for another?

Sure, I love rock music in my Sonic games most of all, but I also enjoyed Riders (all three games) and Colors soundtracks, like, A LOT.

Sorry, wasn't my aim! Was only try to make a joke, sorry you took it like that :(

The thing is just because you don't like the genre/type of music, that doesn't make it bad music really. It just makes it music you don't like.

This is where I draw the reference from, what you say means just because you feel their just there/OK/meh/horrible, that makes them music that isn't good and they need to make good songs.

That's all.

Hey hey hey, chillax a bit! I'm no mod, but I know we're all supposed to stay in peace, harmony and friendship - Hey, that's like, one of tons of things we've learned from watching multicolored ponies!

Jokes aside, I'm throwing this little opinion in again: I don't think "I don't like this" should be confused with "This is bad". They have completely different meanings to me - the former meaning that you're expressing an opinion, whereas the latter implies that you either are a self-centered bigot who thinks your word is law, or haven't really thought about the definition of the phrase. (hopefully the latter)

Like I said about Shadow, effort definitely was put into all these tracks. From having done music for a while now, I'm pretty sure that to create music like that in Lost World or Shadow would take quite a bit of time. While no, I don't 'feel' them the same way I do, say, Emerald Hill or Bob-Omb Battlefield, I can still see it as a piece of music and appreciate all the dedication poured into it. Music isn't exactly a one-button-make-all thing - it takes time to compose, arrange, perform (if necessary), mix and master everything.

Also, I'm pretty sure we all have a favorite genre - Mine is chiptune and everything 90's-platformeresque, Faseeh's is French House, and so on. It can be a bit of a bias - and what I think should be is that it shouldn't be a bias - or not as much as I feel it to be. Of course, it's impossible to downright love all genres equally, unless you're like Mario and like everything, including monkeys and turtles who steal your girlfriend and toys. Still... it's nice to have an ear for everything. Just that it's in a style that you don't like does not necessarily mean that it's not in a good style, or - goodness bless - that it's bad. Following Can of Nothing tradition and mentioning Sonic After the Sequel in every music-related post, KgZ said that a few years back, he wouldn't have liked the music that Funk Fiction, whom he ended up working on Sonic Before and After the Sequel with, makes. He then said that learning from Berklee made him appreciate all kinds of music, and also recommended me to have the same view. Now, while I wouldn't say this made me hug Rap music and Gangnam Style, I'm starting to try to appreciate things that I don't really do - so that's something.

I'm glad we settled everything, guys. Well, I just wanted to say that I don't like almost all tracks we heard so far. Sure, somebody might like them but I personally don't find them either fitting a Sonic game (candy level music, 3DS desert level) or just not really good (honeycomb for being kinda repetitive in a way Sonic 4 tracks were, just not as much).

..and I loved almost every OST of any Sonic game ever (aside from gamegear games even though some levels had nice music). I hope what I heard so far was the worst of SLW music and everything else will sound much beter.

Trust me, I don't love the new soundtrack either. Something about it bugs me a bit... (And I've actually figured out that Desert Ruins Zone 1 is actually more structurally akin to a Mario theme than Sonic, in my opinion) And it doesn't give me the same charm most previous Sonic games did. Why? i don't know. Do I still 'like' it per ce and appreciate it for what it is? Heck yeah.

I'm also anticipating for the rest of the soundtrack - and I know they're gonna do a good job! Now, the only thing that bugs me is whether I'm going to love it like I do, say, Colors...

So just curious: What is it that Windy Hill is missing or falling short in to those that don't seem to get the love it gets? I mean its very similar to Rooftop Run moderns style, so if you loved that, I would assume this would also be up your ally.

Hmm... Windy Hill isn't the best song that the series ever brought to the table, but I do find plenty of enjoyment out of it. Is Lost World's soundtrack as memorable as stuff like Colors and Generations? Obviously, I can't say yet, but there is plenty of potential to be had with Tomoya Ohtani leading the OST efforts.

I feel it similar to the likes of Colors and Super Mario Galaxy, where since they are in space, in a very cartoon-y series, they can have a lot more character to not only the levels, but the music too. But, I can't judge from just one song, but I can say that I am gonna remix this theme for the next Music Adventure...

In other news, the song played in the trailer is Cinema by Benny Benassi. Doesn't count as Sonic music, but being a huge fan of Benassi's music, I fangasmed.

I can't wait to hear more of the soundtrack. I think my favorite track has to be Desert Ruin Zone 2 (Wii U/honeycomb). That Blaxploitation music!

Tomoya Ohtani's music gives me high hopes for what we'll see. Whereas Jun Sunoue's tunes fit the more pumped scenarios, Ohtani is just generally good in giving a more general sense of energy. At least, that's how I'd describe it.

I'm really curious to see what the main theme is. Will we get a lyrical theme or just an instrumental one? In my opinion it would be bizarre to not have a lyrical theme... I can understand for Generations, but the fact they're not using original music for the trailers leaves me somewhat worried. Has SEGA abolished lyrical theme songs after all these years?

Really digging the music, Windy Hill in particular has been stuck in my head and the game isn't even out yet!

It is a pretty catchy track. I can definitely get the same feel that the Unleashed music, especially Rooftop Run, had from it.

Hence, I've put it on a Youtube repeater... it will have to keep me satisfied until the game comes out. Eagerly awaiting whatever the theme song is. smile.png Perhaps we'll hear it at Sonic Boom or Summer of Sonic? A recording at least, since I don't think Ohtani's in attendance.

Indeed. I also like the Honeycomb track, the candy one was kind of weird but ok I guess.

I personally feel the Desert Ruins 1 track's structurally more akin to a Mario track - the chord progressions definitely remind me of the ones used in Mario, and the key itself - D - is something that Mario athletic themes seem to be using lately. That said, the instrumentation - especially the brass hits - are more akin to a Sonic track, and the little - more subdued in the cheeryness - part is definitely what Ohtani would do - then again, he did the track, lol.

I might be just talking out of my butt again, considering I tend to be quite the cynical little jerk when it comes to upcoming game music, but that's just my two cents - If you have a different opinion, I'd love to hear.

Everyone seems to be giving their opinions on the music for the Wii U version, but what about that desert theme for the 3DS? Despite being quite repetitive, it was pretty good. The instrumentation gives me Arid Sands Night vibes from Unleashed. Windy Hill is pretty good, it definitely feels like what the first stage should sound like. Desert Ruins 2 Wii U is my favorite out of 4 tunes we heard. Desert Ruins 3 is pretty dope, it fits with the level atleast. Overall, Ohtani hasn't dissapointed me.

Off-topic, but I always found it weird that while stripclub/porn (or even something that sounds like the stereotypic one!) music doesn't HAVE to be made for such a genre and could probably be used in just about anything at the cost of a few sniggers, porn and all that kinda stuff are made for said genre, and would never be able to be faked for something else. Such are the subtle differences between the arts, I guess~

...Did I seriously just type this post?

Personally I don't care for any songs on this soundtrack except for Desert Zone 3. Windy Hill's music is too repetitive, it gets annoying real quickly... Honestly this is probably my least favorite soundtrack from any Sonic game to date. Sadly it's probably going to be the first Sonic game I play on mute. :\ Well until I get to Desert Zone 3 of course. :P
