Sonic dies whenever he's out of Super form in most games while in space, yet in Unleashed he's perfectly.....ok game.

Maybe he dies because he's falling to Earth at huge speeds in those other games? If you're gonna say he survived in Unleashed, the green barrier broke his fall.

The fact that all of the events of Sonic 06 were retconned, yet for some reason Blaze seems to remember Crisis City in Generations.

I thought that was what retconned meant, that it was completely removed as if it never existed at all in the first place.

To retcon simply means to alter pre-existing canon.  I think the point he was making is that the game is still acknowledged to exist, rather the continuity established within it is acknowledged in the series or not.  It's not like the CDi games, for example, which Nintendo refuses to comment on or otherwise acknowledge the existence of.
