Legosi (Tani Coyote) 5,856 Posted August 21, 2013 While I don't follow SEGA's brand much personally, I will say it's a clever marketing move. As we found out at Sonic Boom 2012, NiGHTs has value to a considerable amount of people, and throwing his world into the game as a non-canon extra is a pretty good treat indeed. Heck, from a business perspective this could even serve to rekindle interest in NiGHTs among the mainstream market, thus allowing SEGA to help rebuild its brand so it's no longer effectively just "Sonic with a few sidekick franchises." SuperLink 5,944 Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) To me, more than anything, this gives me a vibe that Sonic is returning to the classic SEGA franchise a lot of people loved it to be in their childhoods. Sonic Adventure was packed with cameos of the like, and other earlier Sonics had little nods to other SEGA things. Why not? He's SEGA's big cheese and there's no better way to introduce SEGA's other franchises to the world than through Sonic. It's been so long since a Sonic game got other SEGA cameos that I'd forgotten how neat it felt. I hope this isn't the last we'll see of stuff like this either. Sonic, as well as moving forward, can show us SEGA's best. It's little moves like this that remind me that SEGA is still the same company that gave us these classics. Maybe they're not what they used to be, but maybe they can get there again someday. Or maybe I'm just being wishy-washy, but this is real fuckin' neato. Pawn 3,080 Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) Yeah, I'd love to see more SEGA cameos in Sonic again. SA2 was the last main Sonic game to include these (for the obvious reason that it was the last to appear on a SEGA console), and of course there were the Riders games after it that allowed you to play as characters like Ulala. The more cameos, the merrier. Edited August 21, 2013 by Pawn
Marcello 11,082 Posted August 21, 2013 Do we know it's downloadable content? It might be on the disc like with All-Stars Racing Transformed. I hope it''s like that. I haven't been able to get on the internet with my Wii U and I'd rather not have to ask a friend.. 2 Goldenlink64 and MykonosFan reacted to this

Celestia Ludenberg 519 Posted August 21, 2013 NiGHTS is making cameos in Sonic games again? Awesome! If I don't have a Wii U by the time this comes out I might just get the game with the pre-order bonus and leave it lying around until I get the console. But then again, this might become DLC later on.

I'm one of the few people that wanted a Wii U from the get - go, as I was already curious about it, nevermind Lost World and the like. But this.... this just hurts me that I have to miss out on this magnificence. Here's to hoping for even more cameos from Nights and other Sega franchises in the future, and that the 3DS version has something like this too...*crosses fingers*
Phoenix Flame 5 Posted August 21, 2013 I don't want to spoil everyone's fun, but I can't be the only one who is disappointed in this move. Not in the actual content, because it looks really cool! I mean the way this is Special Edition DLC only. It just seems so unfair that this content will be locked off and sold off at a higher price, when it should just be included in the standard edition. Ah well /Rant over.

I mean, it's not specific to SEGA as it's a video game brand trend. It's just so annoying. Having content withdrawn to buy at a higher price doesn't exist in any other format. Plato's Republic: Special Edition (Includes Book Ten!) Olivier's Version of Hamlet (Includes the final fight). Ahh well.. SilentDoom 3,460 Posted August 21, 2013 Why? It wouldn't make sense in the normal game unless they marketed it as some kind of SonicxNiGHTS crossover game. It makes perfect sense as a special edition/dlc thing because it's content that wouldn't be expected for the normal game. It's not like additional characters in fighting games for example. It's a bonus.
Blue Blood 29,573 Posted August 21, 2013 Well. that was that absolute last thing I think anyone could have anticipated. Way to throw one out of the left field, SEGA. It looks fantastic. Now we just need to know where to buy it.

It's clearly finished content, and could be put in the game, but isn't so people fork out more money for a special edition. It's an immoral practice and cannot be defended. Locking off content that should be in the game and forcing the consumer to buy the complete game for a higher price 'Super Special Edition' or via DLC is by far the biggest evil in the videogame industry. I'm not knocking Lost World, the game looks like a dream. But this.. is pure shoddiness. It's a bonus. I dunno, SEGA didn't need a reason to put the NiGHTS pinball table in Sonic Adventure. Why should they need a reason to do this? It'd not even called the "NiGHTS Edition" but the Deadly Six Edition so I really think it's just a cameo for the sake of cameo. No special meaning behind it, and could easily be made available for the regular game for those who like little bonuses in games (I think we all do). I'm not hatin' on SEGA for making the move, but I agree with PF in that it'd be nice if things like this were standard in the game more often.. like they used to be. 1 Zavok the SpinningSilver reacted to this
Marcello 11,082 Posted August 21, 2013 I feel a pinball machine is different than straight up fighting the enemies from NiGHTS. But either way, I'm pretty sure the Limited Edition of ASRT is still available, so this shouldn't be too hard to get.

Shane 1,007 Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) Guys, I don't think SEGA is charging us extra for this. The Deadly Six Edition seems like it's pretty much what the Bonus Edition was for Transformed. Edited August 21, 2013 by Shane (XD375)
MykonosFan 1,043 Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) This is just a pre-order bonus, it's not going to cost more? Not sure where that's coming from. This will just be a code on your GameStop receipt, a code in an email, or a code on an insert in the game case more than likely. Thigolf 4,859 Posted August 21, 2013 I bet this is just a Limited Edition like Lego City Undercover or Tranformed was - Bonusstuff for those who purchase the game rather early.
azoo 14,227 Posted August 21, 2013 I swear if this is European-exclusive I'm gonna explode, LOL. This is one of the greatest things. All the NiGHTs references in the Adventure games really made all of Sonic Team and Sega's works feel connected together in some fashion, and it felt really really nice. This coming back in Lost World is the last thing I expected, and it makes me so dang happy. 3 Zavok the SpinningSilver, Victoes and Cola reacted to this

I would be surprised if they don't put another, say, £5 on the price tag. Okay, here's where I stand. If the Special Edition is the same price, and released worldwide, then I still think it's a stupid decision (since it should just be in the standard version) but it cannot really be condemned. But I think it's very unlikely. If they are the same price, there would be no incentive to buy the standard version. Folks were plenty disappointed at how freakin' limited the release of the Casino Night DLC was post Generations' release, causing many who hadn't had the opportunity to pre-order to completely miss out on this bonus. We're already two years past the game, and the folks in blue hadn't had the decency to add it in the XBLMarketplace, the PSN Store, and others, save for a specific region of the world via one platform, if I recall correctly. Simply put, I just hope that this doesn't turn out to be pre-order exclusive DLC, or DLC that ends up being neglected by SEGA once Lost World is out. 4 Cola, Blue Blood, Sonictrainer and 1 other reacted to this
