Happy 20th Anniversary to AOSTH!

This was the first Sonic cartoon I was introduced to, but it was way after it was cancelled, so it was only through a couple of episodes on VHS, which where surprisingly hard to come by at the time despite being, what, 3 years after? Obviously I was way to young to remember it being on TV (I was about thirteen months old).

I may have grown up with Sonic Underground being my main Sonic show (which I also hold dearly for that reason), but it doesn't hold a candle to the show that was one of the main contributing factors in making me the Sonic fan I am today.

Happy Birthday AoStH.

On this day 20 years ago, my childhood was born.

Seriously, Sonic & Knuckles was great, but this piece of Sonic merchandising was the reason I'm such an avid Sonic fan to this day.

Gotta speed, keed~

Best of all 4 Sonic animated adaptations. Its a great cartoon, with some fine animation(few errors here and there), fine voice acting, and its very funny as well. Its the Second Sonic show I ever saw, seeing how late I was born late 90's and earliest I would be able to remember seeing was Sonic X(1st I saw), I didn't grow up with the show. But just as well, I liked it all the same. It reminds me of the old 1940's and 50's Looney Tunes shorts and I like those so I like this too. It doesn't try to be all dark or serious like the other 2 cartoons and it also tries to be closest to the games which I also like. So its 20 yrs. old now, what a surprise. It almost feels like the day it turned 20 yrs. old.

Exactly. I'd rent a VHS tape with High Stakes Sonic and another episode I can't remember of. Every. Single. Week. And it's the only blue VHS I have ever seen! Probably this fact made an impression upon me. More than Sonic 1 for Master System, this is the reason why I like Sonic so much to this day.

It's very weird to know the cartoon is only 5 days younger than I am. Well, anyway, AoStH is a cartoon I cherish and wish I could watch in its entirety.

It's so weird that nearly 20 years later, AoStH is probably the most accurate representation of Sonic's world and sort of foretold the future we'd have in terms of tone and overall style for the games. I love how the first five(?) episodes went as far as mentioning by name -and- doing their own envisioning of Marble and Casino Night to adapt it from a game environment into a cartoon environment, Tails always being at Sonic's side without being sidelined like in SatAM or outright removed in Underground, Robotnik being an absolutely magnificent bastard with two blundering idiots at his side, strange yet amazing character designs... honestly, it's really surprising when you stack it up against the rest of his cartoons and even the games that followed up until recently how much of -the- Sonic canon it was.

I think I'll have a marathon over on Netflix. Thankfully there's Hola Unblocker to get rid of the stupid EU restrictions where we don't even get AoStH of all things, yet get Underground and (URGH) SatAM!

Of all the sonic cartoons, I think AoSTH has to be my favorite. SatAM is alright, but there were times where I found it boring, no to mention I didn't care for the grimdark setting it established.

AoSTH was the cartoon I remember watching the most, and to this day it still entertains me and makes me laugh. Also, he fact that the art direction really gives me a Max Fleischer vibe, only makes me appreciate it more. I've recently gained an interest in old, trippy black and white cartoons, and I can definately see the Max Fleischer influence, trippiness, character design and all.

20 years huh? Geez, I'm starting to feel old again. wacko.png

Wow, finally a topic where people won't start stupid and silly arguments! happy.png

... or not.

Either way, I remember watching this show way back in the day. Happy Birthday!

I think the first episode I saw in full was "Sonic's Song," the one where Robotnik decides he wants to put an end to all music because someone made a song dedicated to Sonic and put it on REBL Radio.

I underestimated the humor in this cartoon. Just... sit back and watch some of it. You might be surprised by how funny it actually is.

Without a doubt, this is the first Sonic show I have ever watched when I first start becoming a fan in the early 90's. I remembered owning a couple of VHS videos of the show and I still have got the DVD of a few episodes right now. Might start watching it and regain my nostalgic gratification.

I think this show helped me get through the dark transition from Genesis to DreamCast, where I thought Sonic games weren't really being made anymore but he still had TV shows and miscellaneous stuff so I indulged in it. My first episode was the Robotnik Express, watched off of one of the original VHS tapes my dad bought for me. As a result, that episodes and Tails' New Home are the ones most near and dear to my heart. I haven't watched it in awhile, probably to keep the nostalgia alive, but I don't doubt that it was pivotal in cultivating my personal fandom. So here's to AoStH, in all of its absolute absurdity.

When I was an ickle girl, I used to love watching this show on a now long-defunct cable channel called TCC every day at 11am and 2:30pm along with SatAM. It used to charm me immensely and I remember being captivated by the fact that Sonic, Tails and Robotnik talked and did things beyond the games.

Then I watched it again when it was airing on POP in about early 2004 and remember being rather shocked by Sonic's little speech on the subject of sexual harrassment in one Sonic Sez. I believe I saw that before it ever become internet meme material.

On rewatching though, the show tends to come off as uniquely irritating and abrasive to me  The animation distracts me with how frequently bad it is, the storylines are frequently samey and unoriginal and predictable and Scratch, Grounder, Coconuts and even Sonic tend to be pretty annoying. Still, I do have some fond memories of watching it when I was young along with SatAM.

I have to admire the balls of a show that purposefully sacrificed animation quality for expressiveness. My gosh is this show ugly at times, but it makes me laugh every time it happens.

You could make a tumblr from all the awkward screen caps. Heck, I might actually do it if no-one else has

Edit: Spoilered to prevent unwanted nightmares

20 years has been a long time, even though it is a cheaply made cartoon disguised as advertisement for the next batch of Sonic games it is one of my favourite cartoons and one of the reasons why I like that hedgehog.

There's so much that I really like about the cartoon from the characters especially Robotnik, Scratch, Grounder, Coconuts, Sonic himself, Professor Von Schlemmer and Wes Weasley, the references to the games from zones to Chaos Emeralds and being one of the closest video game cartoons towards the game excluding Super Mario Bros. 3 that is probably one of the most accurate. Despite the low budget animation, I actually like that every episode had a different style and as fluid animation with wacky poses to laugh at. Then again, there were 4 animation studios working on this and it also had TMS doing the Chaos Emerald saga that were the better animated episodes due to experience from other shows. I don't care that many of the poses are off model and some episodes are badly animated (due to the low budget), at least it didn't have as many colouring errors compared to other DiC video game cartoons (apart from the later SatAM and Sonic Underground that are better animated). I don't like every episode, there are some that are hard to watch but that's only 8 out of 65. Also I know the plots aren't the deepest except the Chaos Emerald saga and Mass Transit Trouble, the latter actually being quite dark for a cartoon since it implies that Robotnik is a terrorist planning to bomb airports and train stations. The other episodes were either 80s/90s cartoon cliches, recycled from previous DiC cartoons or just strange... Then again it is a cartoon that I can just relax and watch.

I vagually remember watching it on TCC until the channel closed down, then my mum when she came home from the supermarket bought me a VHS tape of the show. It had High Stakes Sonic (the Casino Night episode) and Sonic Breakout (the one with Sketch Lampoon). I used to watch that every so often until to my surprise that a new channel has started to air it called POP where they aired the Mario cartoons as well. I used to watch it nearly all the time towards the point of taping it (gave one tape to a high school so the disabled people can watch it on their TV/VHS and they watched it all the time - bearing in mind the tape was transfered to DVD so it was safe), then when we got a DVD recorder recorded it to DVD to record all 65 episodes and finally a few years ago bought the box set.

Might as well mention this too, even though I have always liked the show there was a time online during the early 2000s that if you like the show, you was considered a fruitcake by people on the Internet while people praised SatAM as the one true Sonic cartoon so fans of the show weren't common and still remember their names from looking online (I do like SatAM as well). It all changed when Matt Mulligan and Stegblob made those videos on Youtube, suddenly the popularity of the show exploded.

Though I'm a lot younger, I actually watched most of the series on YouTube when I was little, it was a good and random show. And I Want to actually see Scratch and grounder more..... PINGAS!!!

Never really got around to watching this show in full capacity(only know about it through Youtube clips and The Nostalgia Critic), but I prefer Sonic's design in this show to Satam's (never liked him wearing a backpack), I appreciate them for trying to focus on the brotherly relationship of Sonic and Tails, and it did give us the (in?) famous "PINGAS" meme, so I can appreciate this show for that alone :D Happy 20th birthday, AOSTH!

My favourite of the all the Sonic cartoons, I think a lot of you guys have summed up why people loved this show, the crazy stories and plotlines, the characters, the closest we have been to Sonic's world and the voice acting from Jaleel and Long John was simply brilliant. Happy Birthday AoSTH, we won't forget you.

Has it been 20 years since this cartoon first hit the airwaves?! Man, I feel old! I started watching the episodes again about a month ago and I am having quite the time reliving my childhood! AoStH was very popular back in 1993 to where it was on twice a day-once in the morning and again in the afternoon. I have so many fond memories watching it initially as a 9 year old two times a day, and I laughed a ton while watching it; and I am doing the same even now some 20 years later, probably more so now than I did back then in 1993. wink.png I'm basically going to copy and paste all that I said about the show a few months ago in another topic:

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog-I absolutely LOVE this cartoon! AoStH is one of my all-time favorite cartoons and second favorite Sonic cartoon next to SatAM...It was the cartoons that really got me into Sonic more than the games did. I thought all the main characters were well portrayed in the cartoon; there wasn't a single character out of the main cast that I did not like. Although a bit obnoxious at times, Sonic was very entertaining with his cool attitude, memorable catchphrases, and endless disguises:

PqHkGNx.jpg?1

Seriously, how did they NOT know that was Sonic?!

Tails was absolutely adorable, along with being faithful to Sonic and very smart. Dr. Robotnik, as intelligent as he is, was downright hilarious. I was probably laughing at him more than any other character, especially when he said without fail in almost each episode: "I hate that hedgehog!" Coconuts was my favorite among the badniks, I really liked him and I wished that the appeared in the show more frequently than he did. Scratch and Grounder are an absolute riot being so absent-minded, and it was hilarious seeing them constantly bickering and seeing Sonic foil their plans time and time again. But most of all, I downright loved the bromance between Sonic and Tails throughout the show, antics included:

This here was my favorite moment in the entire show:

This scene was absolutely adorable! I love it! smile.png

As humorous as the show was, it was informative at times, notably with the Sonic Says segments. One of the things that I got out of the show that I never forgot was that of chili dogs. I never saw one or knew they existed until I watched this cartoon.

I wish that the show continued on for a few more years at least, as great as it was. But I'm thankful that all 65 episodes were put on DVD and I was able to buy the whole set. That allows me to enjoy and cherish this awesome cartoon now and for another 20 years and then some. smile.png

While this isn't my favorite Sonic show (that belongs to Sonic Underground, merely for Manic :3), I still have fond memories of watching this as a young'un. Happy anniversary, AOSTH!

I love this show so much, I used to watch a VHS my brother had all the time and recieced the box set for my birthday a few years back now. I've seen all 65 episodes loads and there aren't any I hate, I prefer some to others but I can sit through all 65 no problem.

The show is actually still quite funny and a lot of the characters actually fit into the world of Sonic. People like professor Von Shlemmer, Wes Weasley, Seargent Doberman, Breesey, Robotnik Jr and Proffessor Kayneinstine. The voice acting is actually pretty good and much love to Long John Baldry, he was so good at rolling those "R's" off his tounge

The Sonic says sections I can imagine would actually be really informative to a child, being older when I saw most of them I already knew not to distract someone when driving, and to share my things to make "three mouth watering chillidogs" but they are still really funny!

Some episodes of the show actually do really well to show sonics personality, and not always in a good light. The episode "over the hill hero" has Sonic being actually quite mean and dismissive to an old superhero, Captain Rescue, saying that he doesn't need help from an "old timer". Eventually it ends up that Sonic gets captured and needs his help and he has to humble himself and say sorry.

I must say I'm surprised that AOSTH is 20 years old yesterday! One day older than me!!!

Besides satAM, This was the first sonic T.V show that I was introduced to. I just loved watching it every afternoon <3
Where you watching back when it was shown on Channel 4? 'cos I thought it was on Sunday mornings, not in the afternoon (that's what my old StC issues say anyway).

I thought AoSTH was a pretty entertaining show, and I would like to see more after episode 20, but Netflix is crap with that sort of thing.

Though IMO the pilot was more accurate to the games. For example, the first scene takes place in what looks like Emerald Hill and he runs through a loop. Not to mention the Checker-Wrecker Ball from Sonic 1 being used by Robotnik in the desert scene.

Not saying the final show was bad, though.
