Can someone translate this?

Only rough translation, because my kanji are very rusty:

The islands' little animals have been caught by Eggman. Sonic & Tails board the Tornado to ...well...

As the plane recovers, a mysterious continent appears before their eyes - Lost Hex.

Sonic & Tails check the grid-shaped [...] out.

What's actually going on in this place?

In this unknown land Sonic's latest adventure begins!

Edit: It's actually "island" up there. I wonder what island they are referring to.

Nah I dont think it'll be a boss rush, just Zavok with a couple different phases. I wonder how Sky Road will play out though, cause I remember seeing the Zavok Boss with the Sky Sanctuary look & a collected Red Star Ring was hovering in the air.

That "sky sanctuary" part is from Silent Forest.

And here we got a brief impression of the game:

Oh no! This was supposed to be the good Sonic game. The one to get him back on his feet. I wanted to like it so badly, but I just didn’t. I’m so sorry.

Sonic Lost World looks like an amazing platformer when the person providing the gameplay for the trailer knows what he is doing.  Streaming jumps together, bending curves perfectly, taking out enemies without a hitch. No problem, this should be easy to pick up.

Well, not so much. I found myself completing awkward jumps and getting hit by enemies because of a confusing attack mechanic which doesn’t work when used from the air. The platforming is also stale, and most of the level requires the dash button to be held and just running straight.

A few secrets open up the map and encourage exploration, but more often than not, I think the camera was having more fun following Sonic on these twisted paths than I was. Its ability to follow Sonic from a variety of angles makes his runs seem more exciting, but the reality is he just runs in a single direction during these moments.

Maybe I picked a crummy level, the one with rainbow tracks, but I was underwhelmed at what it had to offer for my first try. Sonic was stiff, his jumps awkward, his new ledge grasping ability obtrusive, and all three combined made it difficult to get any momentum going, a no-no for a Sonic game.

Sonic has always been a practice makes perfect series, though, so maybe more intimate knowledge of the controls will make things better.

Sonic Lost World will be released for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS on October 2nd.

Sounds like he got saddled with Dessert Ruins.

Sounds like he just got served by the game.

Hehe... Get it? Serving desserts? No? No? Okay...

Other than that though... I seriously think Lost World will be a big "practice makes perfect" game indeed to the point that I'm not expecting getting anything the first time I play it.

It's possible. I get the impression that the controls are better suited for 3D space in some ways.

I mean, there are enough people who had no trouble with it, so it's definitely a mileage thing. I have seen stuff in footage that I don't like, but I haven't played it, so I can't tell what works and what doesn't.

Yeah, the controls sound like something you'll really need to get used to to enjoy it.  Like Kid Icarus.

I don't know. I mean, what is so hard with just holding the R button while moving and pressing B or Y when the aiming reticles pop up? I think the player was just a little frustrated that he couldn't just blaze through the level.

How come every time someone posts a negative impression of the game, everybody goes looking for reasons as to why they're wrong?

Whats the top excuses so far?

"They thought it was a boost game?"

"They need practice."

"They're playing it wrong"

Anything else?

Perhaps they just don't like the game for whatever reason. I mean, gosh, we already know that the game is gonna be polarizing in more ways than one, after all. Personally, I'm still gonna get the game simply because this is gonna be the sort of game that you pretty much have to play in order to see how everything in it works.

Or maybe... gee you know, what they said was right?

Seriously, is this gonna happen everytime someone posts a negative opinion? We're going to look for reasons as to why they're wrong?

Or maybe it was their taste in video games being different from other peoples' taste in video games?????

Heh, the writer did mention practice in that article. tongue.png

What Komodin said. I don't think this is gong to be settled by a preview.

@Blitz: Maybe. Let's see.

It's ironic because the game is not instantly accessible like you people seem to think it is. The controls threw me off when I played it because they were so utterly revamped from what's come before and the parkour truly does require a heck of a lot of refinement when it comes to control. Not to mention the way the Wisps are controlled by the touch pad.

It's not the type of game that you can pick up and instantly play like a pro within a few minutes. Not in any way, shape or form. Which is why those who haven't played it saying "Oh this player is shit" when they see footage of first-players who haven't quite got to grips with it don't know what they're talking about and aren't qualified to comment.

It's almost like watching what happened when Secret Rings/Wildfire was coming out, nobody was allowed to say a bad word about it, despite all the blatent problems it had and the fact that *whisper* it wasn't very good... every time theres some negative comments on the game, the blame is put back on the person who said them.

Actually, the part about holding a button to run may be a lot more simple to get used to for Rayman fans, oddly enough. All those hours playing the Rayman Legends Challenge App will finally pay off! I keep holding down the right trigger to run in New Super Mario Bros even though I know that doesn't work. I'm probably going to hold it down in Lost World out of sheer instinct.

This comparison with Secret Rings i cannot agree with. While i wasn't there to see it's initial reception before release in real-time, it wasn't made by the A Team of Sonic Team, coupled with the fact that it was a spin-off with on-rains gameplay controlled with the Wii remote sideways (especially given with Sega's past track records with those....), the writing was kinda in the wall.

While there definitely are instances where a single negative towards a popular video game franchise's upcoming major title gets dismissed, i think what bugs others the most (as in, the one's of who look forward to SLW) is when said-negative gets thrown out of proportion in which it's used as an instant-killer towards the game's potential. Then there's also a point where even positive impression that EXIST towards this game can get dismissed as well, so it's not as if dismissal is exclusive towards optimists compared to pessimists really.

There's a difference between saying the controls take some getting used to, especially for new players, and saying that the game is confusing as all hell and badly designed.

I bet everyone here who records their first playthrough would be the same as any gameplay you seen in the events when people first play this game. even me. Though Sonic games were always easy to master but I can see this game being hard to master.

It depends if the controls are not so confusing, which I doubt that they are confusing.

My god your right!  Been playing rayman legends since the first day the challenge app opened up. Still play it today. I forgot you have to make sonic run.

So what do y'all think of the apparent visual changes to Frozen Factory Zone 3? I kind of like the new purple colors, it makes it look less like a blatant Casino Night Zone knockoff.

I am in agreement. The purple overtones are a bit nicer to look at, actually. And yes, it does make it less of a Casino Night-ripoff, which was an issue I originally had with the Zone. (to be fair, it's not that much of a ripoff, but still it seemed a fair bit uninspired... then again, how many possible ways are there to interpret a casino?)
