SLW: Opening Cut Scene "Eggman... what have you done?"

All my yes to that fucking cutscene, man. Everything that people were worrying about in terms of story seems to have been answered these last 2 months. I can't wait to see how Eggman interacts with Sonic and Tails throughout the story.

And is it me, or is this CGI Eggman model fucking perfect!?!?

I like how this game is trying to appeal to me despite my criticism of the art style, use of the Wisps and too much cartoony-looking badniks.

I always said this game doesn't turn me the right way.

And then, after a Casino Level (one of my favourite level cliches in the series), they pull THIS GLORIOUS PIECE OF EGGMANNESS.

If we take the classics, Adventure 1 and Colors into account, Eggman in this cutscene gets bonus points for Genre Savvyness.

He knows that after all the years of experience with said capsules that Sonic won't hesitate to assume that the aformentioned capsule has critters on their way to robotcization, thus giving Eggman the perfect excuse to lure Sonic who won't be expecting much else outside of Eggman's usual hijinks. So he wouldn't foresee Eggman dropping his precious cargo considering how vital it is to his plans most times. However, this time, it appears that critters aren't the power source of his ace-in-the-hole. This produces the window of opportunity for Eggman to not only provide a distraction leaving the Tornado wide open for his assault weapon, but also trap him on Lost Hex where ( I assume) he's calling the shots at this point, no pun intended.

I feel like... you will be seriously turned around and love this game once you play it fully, among most who are confused or are turned off by the same reason. XD I honestly can't wait, for me its just getting better and better.

Had to watch that cutscene a few times to absorb the greatness that it held. 

 

YAY! Another wonderful piece of CGI! I loved how Eggman literally just dropped the animals and gave off a big grin. Really shows how much of a troll he can be. And UMF! Sonic using the spin dash.

You know, guys... Eggman has done similar things before. Twice already has he lured Sonic by way of sheer predictability of the hedgehog's heroics, thus creating situations where Sonic would be prompted to walk right into a trap. Compound onto it the fact that both times the intention was to actually kill him, and I didn't see this cut scene as a particularly extraordinary character moment for Eggman, especially since I have faith that the writers are going to make sure the animals in the capsule won't get killed if they're brought up again. After all, it's quite the coincidence that the first bit of CGI we got was a group of lone animals on Windy Hill being terrorized by the Six. I almost feel like you could run those two bits back to back and have some form of narrative. Overall, it wasn't a bad scene by any means, but I don't see what makes it so fantabulously special...?

I'm not saying anyone's off-topic; I'm saying I don't empathize with the hype levels. It's not a bad scene at all, but the behavior from every character is nothing we haven't already seen before in past games. I was expecting more from it with all of the celebration going on. Meh. -.-

In Unleashed, he lured Sonic into the trap, groveled in order to facilitate arrogant belittling out of Sonic in order to keep his focus off of what he was doing, broke the world apart and praised Sonic for the look of his new form before giving him a taste of XTREME Skydiving.

 

In Colours, he attempted to pit the mind-controlled Tails against Sonic and whilst that cutscene in no way lived up to it's potential, it was still a pretty wicked thing to attempt to do.

 

In Generations, he.....taunted Sonic from out of nowhere?

 

And now, he's acting like a troll and literally doing what Sonic demands of him in order to be a pain in the ass.

I think it helps that this is a CGI cutscene, a really well animated one at that. Sure it's not SUPER HYPE OMG or anything, but I can't deny stuff like Eggman being his usual self and Sonic using an in-game move in a cutscene put a smile on my face.

 

And really, Sonic taking Eggman seriously is kind of "new"...compared to the last few years.

D: Then can people stop acting like it is SUPER HYPE OMG? Because SUPER HYPE OMG is contagious stuff, with potential side effects ranging from disappointment to continuous reaffirmation of one's fandom, and thus should be used with caution.

 

But on a serious note, I think that's part of my lukewarm reception to it, as well as the fact that the in-game cut scene we have with the Six is far more interesting, because we're seeing opposing character motivations play out in unique ways in that moment. The scene is really interesting because everyone is in character, yet the actual events playing out as a result are far less predictable than anything we'd seen before in the game, and it gives the rest of the story great potential. This CGI scene is fine for basic set-up of how everyone arrives on the planet, but as usual I can't help but feel distanced from the excitement of someone who's claimed that this scene- as well the English boss trailer- is proof that this is totes gonna have the best story ever. Let's "wait and see," yeah?

Also anyone else notice Roger's Sonic voice doesn't sound ridiculously low anymore? I can definitely see myself getting used to him now.
