Sonic Lost World Help Thread - "Just how the hell does anyone expect anyone to get this Red Ring?!"

While none have given me frustrating levels of agony, the 3DS version realllly likes to give you a Wisp before a checkpoint of no return and then give you one shot to get a Red Ring with it after the checkpoint, forcing you to restart the level if you mess up.  THANKFULLY none so far have been anything further than half way through the level.

The 3DS version is also surprisingly flexible with backtracking, especially in the 2D levels.  The kind of Red Rings that are blink and you'd miss it in past games are now not always a case of "better luck next time" if you're clever with your parkouring.  Super Sonic is also pretty awesome at getting sneaky "one chance" ones after you've missed them.

Tell me, can you actually get Desert Ruins 1's 4th Red Ring withOUT Super Sonic? (Which is how I got it, by the way).

This one up high right?

Yeah I'm pretty sure you can get every Red Ring without Super Sonic, though he does help on a lot of "only one chance" Wisp related ones such as this (though dying gives you another chance and you're not short on lives in the 3DS version lol).

From the checkpoint beforehand (not the one almost directly below this area, but you can backtrack from there), use an Asteroid Wisp and take the leftmost path, sucking up Tornado Orbinauts to get bigger and jump to the next platform, if you follow the route you will eventually make it up here - remember once you're at your largest (I think a purple spikey halo appears around Sonic) you can do MASSIVE double jumps with Asteroid, hold down the button, release and quickly push and hold again at the height of your jump.  If you're really clever you can get up to this area with parkour, especially with Super Sonic, but the Tornado Orbinauts will give you tons of trouble without an Asteroid Wisp once up there (the small ones moreso than the final massive one, which can be easily jumped around, again, especially if you're Super Sonic).

If you fail or haven't got an Asteroid Wisp, one can be collected by following the rightmost route (follow the trail of Fire Orbinauts) on ground level, then backtrack back to the checkpoint, parkour up the tower immediately to the left, and activate the Wisp at the top before touching the Tornado Orbinaut, and then follow the route as described.  It's a real tricky one though, I'm pretty sure I found it easier to just use Super Sonic to get up to the highest area, THEN I used my Asteroid Wisp just to clear out the small Tornados (though the amount of debris gained from them is not enough to double jump up to the next step, so you'll have to do some amount of dodging them Wispless, you can only clear out one step if you start your Wisp here instead of keeping a chain going from the ground level).

Phew... very complicated in words but the entire process (if done successfully) only takes about 20 seconds in game lol.

20 SECONDS?! Try 20 MINUTES! :D

What about Zone 2 Ring 4 and/or Zone 3 Ring 3?

Much appreciated.

Any tips out there for the 3DS version of the final bosses? I'm up to Zeena, and I know I have to hit the snowmen with the Lightning Wips to homing attack them, but afterwards when she's down to like 1/3 of her health the stuff she starts throwing goes after you directly. I always get hit and die. Any suggestions on how to beat her? Some tips for the rest of them would help too, I can tell they're only gonna keep getting harder.

I was only able to do Zeena with a little bit of luck.  You CAN chain over to her with just a regular double jump, but you have to have the distance and timing exactly right.  Like, you have to push X AS, not WHEN, the reticule appears.

The other two aren't especially different.  Zor just has better diguises, and Zavok is just faster.  The final final boss, I'll give a little hint without giving it away if you want a hint in advance:

You need to homing attack in more than one place during a single attack to take him down.  Targeting just one spot to attack is useless.

Did you see my second post here Jez? (Regarding Desert Ruins Zones 2 & 3)

Whoops!  Yeah soz I did see those and by the time I had finished responding to Lhan I had forgotten to say.  I've been a bit busy but I'll try and check those out soon.  Annoyingly re-finding red rings on a completed file is a lot harder than finding them the first time as the game doesn't tell you which number you've collected any more.

I'm PRETTY SURE I remember Act 2 Ring 4 though.  In the vertical room with three shafts and Fire Orbinauts all the way down the middle one, you have to beat them all to progress normally, but there's a floor you can Drill through at the bottom with a Yellow Wisp.  I'm pretty sure it's at the end of this Drill Path or hidden somewhere inside it.

That's Ring 5 :P

I'm gonna play a hunch when I have time in an hour or two, see ya then.

Maybe.

No, Ring 5 is a different dig route that takes you out at the capsule.  This is a dig route that you cannot take at the same time as Ring 5 as far as I can tell.  Ah well maybe I'm remembering wrong.

Anyway I remembered Ring 3 on Act 3 too.  When you encounter Zomom's Blockhead thing at the end of the Quicksandy Path, jump on its head as it flies away.  If you miss your chance you can parkour your way up there with the surrounding walls too.

Got both of them.

In Zone 2, you actually hit the switch after killing the 6 orbinauts (don't use drill), then grab the 1-up that takes you to the ceiling path (for anyone here in the same predicament.)

Could you help me with Sky Road?

In Zone 1, I'm missing rings 1,3 and 4. In Zone 2 I'm missing the first 4 (I HATE Casinos :P)

Thanks again.

Act 1:

For Ring 1, follow the topmost route perfectly - this includes parkouring up at the start, going along the rail, jumping to the higher rail, homing attacking the spinners after the boost rings, and following the path of flywheels.  Keep to the very top, no screwups.  Eventually there's a pinball flipper sticking out of a left wall near two flywheels.  The ring is above.

I know for sure you get a Red Ring for clearing the first two BINGO pinball tables.

Ring 4, make sure to clear the second BINGO Table completely, and take the upper giant spring to the final area.  Follow the top route, jumping to the grind rail above when it appears (you can backtrack using some flywheels on the left below the grind rail start point if you mess up).  Some boost rings will shoot you straight through the Ring.

Act 2:

Ring 1 is on the left after you use the Asteroid Shooter Circle thing.  Do a double jump at the height of your shot to the platform on the left, rather than the giant spring on the right.

In the second area, follow the path until you reach another Asteroid Shooter Circle.  Make sure you have a fully charged Asteroid (spiky purple halo around Sonic), and at the peak of the shot, follow the clumps of rings with 5-rings within them to your left until you reach a platform with another 5-ring.  There'll be a spinning laser hazard ahead of you, and a platform with a Badnik and the Ring 2 to the left of the spinning laser.

Just before leaving the Casino city, Ring 3 is on top of the tallest central tower.  After the highest Asteroid Shooter Circle, head through the left set of boost rings to reach the top of it.

Bouncing up the clouds, Ring 4 is between two fans blowing upwards.  It's tricky to nab, I recommend circling around the fans and pushing L at the right moment to center the camera on it.  Play with 3D on for a slightly better idea of your arc towards it.  There's no hazards here though so just keep grabbing Asteroid Capsules before you run out and keep trying til you get it.

That... Is gonna suck.

If you could help me with the last few, that'd be great.

In Frozen Factory Zone 2, I need ring 4, and I need rings 2&4 in zone 3 (I'm assuming both are Quake-exclusive), and in Silent Forest Zone 1 I need ring 5, as well as ring 3 in Zone 3.

Much appreciated as always!

My god what did your last slave die of lol.

I'll see if I can look into them at some point but I am a busy adult and when I get a chance to game I'd really like to carry on with hard mode and S ranking because finding red rings was time consuming enough the first time.

Just what do the red rings get you in the 3DS version anyway?

There's nothing I can think of that would unlock with the red rings, since Super Sonic is unlocked by getting Chaos Emeralds and the map really doesn't look like it's fit for any more stages.

They indeed unlock extra stages so looks can deceive.  All the stages reuse geometry from existing stages, but they are completely repurposed into Wisp-focused obstacle courses.

Didn't know where else to put this but I need help.

I'm on Hidden World zone 1 and I'm wondering does this stage EVER end? It's so monotonous destroying the cubes for 3 minutes straight without anything happening. Do I just need to run out the timer or will it end eventually?

Also, this might be a stupid question, but how do you transform into Super Sonic? Maybe it doesn't work in Hidden World stages...

Just let the timer run out -- the level will automatically end. It's pretty much just a Score Attack level.

I think you gotta touch the Chaos Emeralds icon on the Gamepad.

Halle-freakin'-lujah! I GOT THE LAST RED RING IN FROZEN FACTORY ZONE 2!

It cost me lots of time, effort, and sanity, but Super Sonic is finally mine! Hell to the yeah!

I have a couple of tips for anyone else struggling on this particular Red Ring:

1) A very handy mechanic that the game doesn't tell you about at all. Pressing X or Y while rolling in the snowball helps bring you to a grinding halt. If you happen to fail at the billiard ball puzzle, hold X or Y as well as pulling back on the control stick with all your might as the boost flings you towards the checkpoint. If you do it right, you'll come to a dead stop just before the checkpoint and can roll yourself off the edge to try again.

2) Particularly for the third and final set of balls, pausing as soon as you hit a ball gives you a moment to breathe and a chance to see whereabouts you need to exactly aim next. Keep on pausing and changing direction until you manage to hit them all!

Ah. That's... interesting.

The wisps aren't exactly the best in this game, even if the 3DS ones control better than the WiiU ones, or so I've heard.

If I do eventually get all the Red Rings [i'm sort of working on it], then I'll be sure to try them out.

The 3DS ones don't just control better, they're more fun to use.  Eagle is just random flying with next to nothing to do most of the time.  Rhythm is... I have no idea what the hell Rhythm is.

3DS' version of Asteroid is more about long, floaty jumps and gliding around.  Quake is about rolling and ground pounding, smashing stuff down.  Lightning is basically expanded homing attack gameplay with a twist.

Essentially, while the Wisps are as unSonic as ever, they lend themselves to actual platforming in the 3DS version.  And obviously the levels designed around them are actually pretty fun as a result.

One thing I always moaned about when we used to argue about Werehog vs Wisps, is that they interrupted the regular platforming, while at least Werehog was self-contained and consistent.  3DS Wisps are consistent.  By having some levels focused around them, while it's not "Sonic" platforming, it's still solid, fun 3D platforming.

And I loved all the Homing Attack "aiming puzzles" in Unleashed's DLC, so more of that via the Lightning Colour Power brought a smile to my face.

I've also noticed that as well. Even the ones across both versions work better in the 3DS version, I've noticed.

While I don't have the WiiU version, watching Cobanermani456's Let's Play has shown me that the 3DS controls work better with the wisps. And, as you said, more fun to play around with.
