Diz 1,808 Posted October 24, 2013 Hey there! I was certain there was a topic about this here somewhere. Perhaps there is. Might not hurt to make this a little more visible though. As an introduction, if you receive a strike, it is important to remember that this is not the end of the world. Many of us receive one at some point, and it does not always mean that you have any bad intentions. When staff need to log severe/repeat rule breaking or behaviour that they feel needs to be somehow improved, it is sometimes additionally logged directly on a user account as warn points/strikes. Strikes should not necessarily be looked upon as a bad thing. Instead, if anything, look at it as a way of improving as a member. Sometimes, members get caught up in a hot situation where things happen really fast and, although with the best intentions, end up fuelling the fire or having a contributing effect to chaos of some sort, while at other times, members forget certain rules and staff feel the need to step in so that a certain behaviour does not become a bad habit. Strikes can happen to everyone, and it is important not to overthink things. (If you do, like myself, try taking a brief break from the computer, go for a walk, have some fresh air etc. It helps, I promise.) More toward the point I wanted to make with this topic, since automated removal is commonly not used here, strikes remain active until removed by staff. If you have been given a strike, (you should wait 3-4 months before doing this) you are welcome to send a PM to any admin or staff to appeal for the strike to be removed. It will then be brought up internally and looked over. Not only are strikes easily forgotten about, drowned in a continuously growing staff database, but we also treat this as an opportunity for members to show that they have learned why a strike was issued and to show us that handing out another strike for the same issue should not be needed in the future. Sometimes after an appeal, staff conclude to keep the strike active for a little bit longer before considering removing it to ensure this, which is better than having to re-apply the same strike the following day (if I am not mistaken, this has actually happened before, and it creates a bit of a mess, one could say). Feel free to send a PM to any staff member if you have questions regarding a strike, and PMing the one who gave you the strike may give you even more details. If you think you were being treated unfairly, you should send a PM to an admin since they are our super cool evil all-powerful overlords (they are awesome, and very much appreciate any feedback you might have). Once again, it would be best to wait 3-4 months before making an appeal about a strike, and then we will look it through. Please do not, PM TSS staff about strikes/asking TSS staff for them to be removed. We don't get involved with forum discipline matters, we can't remove them and we can't see the discussions about them, so we can't actually help you other than advise you to contact one of the SSMB staff. So! With that in mind, do you have a strike lingering which you feel should not apply anymore? Throw one of us a PM! Do you have any questions about strikes in general? Feel free to ask them here, but you can also PM staff, be it about strikes or anything forum related. Have a great day! 13 Stasis, Frogging101, Sixth-Rate Soma and 10 others reacted to this
Big Panda 9,107 Posted October 24, 2013 Don't think I've been striked yet... I don't think it should be taken to heart though. If its a situation where, say, the poster is breaking rules without being aware of it, and if nobody striked him/her, then he/she would remain unaware that there's anything wrong. 1 weawDaync reacted to this

Sean 4,849 Posted October 24, 2013 Very rarely do we consciously remember to whom we have given a strike, either. On one hand this is good because for the most part, we don't judge people based on their past behavior as long as they have shown signs and willingness to improve, and it's a good sign if we see you around the forums and don't think to ourselves, "Oh yeah this is the guy I striked four months ago for that one incident." On the other hand... we really do forget the people we strike which means that many people probably have had their strikes for several months or even years on end, lol. So to further emphasize Diz's point, please definitely do shoot any one of us a PM (yes, even me - I won't bite) to have us review your strike and determine whether you can have it removed. Keep in mind that not every strike will necessarily be removed; depending on the person and their current behavior, we may decide to keep it on for longer. However, it never hurts to ask, and if you're mature about it, the odds are in your favor. The method and way you inquire us is a large determining factor. (Oh and please do not bring up your strike details in this topic, this is a private matter to settle between you and the staff, not to dispute it in public.) 3 Nepenthe, weawDaync and Diz reacted to this
Jix Hedgehog 357 Posted October 24, 2013 How many strikes before someone is banned? I've seen people with 0 strikes banned.. 1 weawDaync reacted to this
Sean 4,849 Posted October 24, 2013 We use a three-strike system but if you're an especially notorious troublemaker, such as a spammer, bandodger, or troll, we just off you on the spot. 1 weawDaync reacted to this
SnipSnap 98 Posted October 24, 2013 Never gotten a strike, although I was just close to it, but that's private. 1 weawDaync reacted to this

Frogging101 1,082 Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) How can you check for strikes?Go to your profile by clicking on your name at the top right of the screen, and it will show you, right below your avatar on the left, how many infractions ("warning points") you have against your account like so: Here you can see that I have zero. If you click on it, it will list your infractions (if you have any). You can only see your own warning points, not those of other members. You can also see your warning points under your avatar and post count in your posts.
