Ugh. I'm sorry, but that fan design is hideous and I'd argue you can have an "adult" Sonic movie without making him so ugly.

What I meant was a Nolan-esque darker take, like the one that was rumored back in 2013. If they wanted a much more grim take on Sonic where they lean into the whole alien thing a lot more with R-Rated violence.

The song is just named after the thing. Came from an old DOOM comic, and became a central point of focus in the franchise.

 

On a different note, how in the actual goddamn heck did people think that fan-design from earlier would be Sonic's new design? I knew it was fake from the moment I laid eyes on it, but others were super quick to panic.

Unpopular opinion: I'm excited about Sonic Movie If you are too and dislike all the hatred around it, check many awesome posts at Tumblr.

The search engine won't show you all posts, but the mentioned blogs have the positivity covered with Movie-Sonic-positivity and Movie-Robotnik-positivity taking the lead You will find fanarts, headcanons, funny jokes, theories, and easter eggs they discovered There are also comic-like fanarts and they are top-notch

I'm actually excited for the movie too, and a lot more optimistic about it, and I'll even admit I feel like people are overreacting heavily and that this film will more than likely not be anywhere near as bad as everyone's expecting it to be,

But if you're over emphasizing the word "positive/positivity" and saying that you "dislike all the hatred", that's usually a sign of not handling constructive criticism and opposite opinions.

This is why, even with liking the direction of this film despite the design, I think the constant positivity vs. negativity argument on this thread is still stupid.

I dislike hatred because it is mostly just hatred and not constructive criticism. If most reactions you see are from - Burn it! I need to bleach my brain! It's a nightmare fuel! and co - it's hard to think that is criticism. It's just like you said - overreacting. And when people do that, they go and ignore anything and everything.

It's okay:

• to not like the design, but providing real feedback
• not wanting to see the movie
• making a redesign that actually uses a movie base as part of studying the changes and how the character "flows"
• making game-redesign

 

It's weird and smells fishy:

• the movie is bad because I don't like the design/it doesn't reflect my vision. => "completely" ignore actors, VA's, CGI effects, pacing, action sequences and everything else like only one aspect makes the whole movie
• we are getting the re-design but will still hate the movie (what was the point then?)
• the "FIXED" redesigns are porno-based or clearly insulting => It feels it's just for the sake of trolling or getting popularity
• calling people by names for looking forward to the movie and forcing them to not go
• sending hate mail to people wanting to enjoy it
• saying "nobody likes it" without any proper data (numbers or something similar)
• being weird out about plot-points/hints that were officially hinted/revealed weeks/months ago (I mean, I'm not that hard-core fan yet I feel I know more about the movie than actual fans XD)
• talking bad about certain points without taking a minute to think about them (see missiles x gun scene) when there is "logic" (but yeah, movie logic can be weird, but not that nonsensical XD)
• complaining about the changes despite they (will) make sense in the movie (see some theories about the Movie Sonic that are able to cast a light on them ;-))
• The trailer has around 10 easter eggs yet fans yell - Show me the easter eggs, don't talk about them! (Strange, as I, who needs the egg to hit me, saw one well hidden - or it was just a coincidence, it's still worthy of being called easter egg ;-))

 

I don't force anybody to see the movie, I just say "see the movie before you say it sucks".

Since under "Movie Sonic" tag you will also find insulting and trolling, positivity was added to show "safe" posts as most of the negativity included excessive swearing.

It's hard to understand, but easy to expect - When you see so much negativity, you will always try to find some positives. After all, nothing is black-and-white There are reports of people seeing the movie already in January/February yet those "haters" ignore them. Yeah, just because a bunch of people saw the movie doesn't mean it will be my cup of tea, but they provided some feedback and were okay with the movie (rating around 7/10 in most cases). Shouldn't it mean, the film isn't that bad?

If their reaction would be the opposite, I would still keep some positivity, but tried to get why it was bad (acting, plot-holes, boring action, too much cliché, no/minimal easter eggs) and so on. They would probably postpone the trailer and the release day to reshoot some parts if the initial feedback would be really bad

You're saying that like a scenario where the designs they chose really are ugly beyond words and expectations is not possible. Sometimes reality is just cruel and shit really does happen.

And I would say this movie is a case of that.

We've discussed for over 400 pages why the movie looks like shit. If all you took away from it was "it doesn't fit our vision" and "we don't like the design", then that's your problem.

And yeah, even with the re-design, the movie will probably still suck. Sonic looking like a nightmare demon was only the most obvious problem, there's still the lackluster writing, the annoying and dumb human characters that will inevitably take up most of the plot and screen time, eye-rollingly terrible jokes (that are again the focus of the movie), and the list goes on. Fixing Sonic's design at this point is the equivalent to slapping a band-aid on a broken arm.

You forgot that the title of the movie is an easter egg that references the character, the franchise and the first game in the franchise as well. 3 EASTER EGGS  IN 1!!!

Honestly, with everything that has happened, my excitement has gone up and down. The constant negativity and even Paramount conceding has all made me less hyped for the movie

 

It's still gonna be nice to see Sonic in the big screen

The only reason I want to see the movie currently is because hopefully the new redesign will look good enough now which will allow me to tolerate it instead of that previous horror show of a design, and because this MIGHT be the only chance I'll get to see a Sonic movie in theaters in my life... The Sonic franchise is near & dear to my soul despite all the rotten hiccups along the way. So passing up on seeing this regardless that it will probably be kinda lame is not something I really wanna do... I seen tons of movies I think are awful anyways, so I can put up with another mediocre one down my belt.

However currently nothing makes this movie worth deserving much positive treatment from the fanbase. Seriously outside of the upcoming redesign maybe being far better, otherwise what about this movie is even sounding good? Sure I am a big fan of Jim Carrey too... but they didn't even bother making him whatsoever look like Dr.Eggman for the majority of this movie... which sucks! When I watch a movie I want known characters to actually look enough like themselves and not just stupidly pander to fans of a famous actor's face. The whole Sonic in the real world concept has never been a good or cool idea! Sonic joining together with random human companions on a adventure? A lame concept that never was appealing for this series... Sonic X rightfully got hated on for doing that idea! This movie in no shape or form feels Sonic themed outside of Sonic himself being poorly tossed into it.

This is my take on a live action Sonic. I know its probably not what most people are looking for, because its a departure from the cartoon design in a lot of ways. I just thought people might find it to be an interesting perspective. If Sonic were done in a more Rocket Raccoon-esque way, using bits of real hedgehog anatomy, while trying to maintain the personality and appeal of the cartoon. I don't know if I was entirely successful, but its just a quick proof of concept and not a full movie ready creature design (especially considering the the hair is just sculpted on and not true cg hairs and quills). 

A few quick notes about the design: 

1. I am not a huge fan of the modern Sonic design, I greatly prefer classic Sonic, before his limbs got stretched out and when he was still round and cute like a cartoon hedgehog. I think real hedgehogs can be quite cute.    

2. This is before he acquires his classic red shoes in the second act. I think he could look good with some realistic sneakers, if they were proportioned right.  

3. He looks a bit strange from the front view because he is still perfectly symmetrical. Some asymmetry would be needed in a final design to look natural.     

4. Finally, I think Sonic and his world better lend themselves to an animated film in a Pixar-type style. This is if you HAD to make a realistic Sonic, which I saw as an interesting design challenge. I personally don't like cartoony/stylized designs coexisting with live action in movies unless its a key plot point like in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." That is why I chose to make him a little more like a real animal.
