Sonic Live Action Movie Thread (Read OP for topic rules) "Trailer 2 on Page 482)

The PG-13 Rating gives me hope Van might do this right. I agree that I've never heard of him prior to the film's announcement, but he's signed on for two films based on big franchises (Sonic and The Jetsons), so Hollywood must see some talent behind this guy.

Don't fail us, Van! I've been waiting my whole life for this movie!

Meanwhile the popularity of Guardians of the Galaxy, and Rocket Raccoon in particular, should have bought the concept of anthropomorphic animals in a live action action movie some good faith in Hollywood as well (not that they necessarily had an issue with it in the first place, as evidenced by the various Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies).

I don't know if that's entirely fair as a comparison, though. Rocket and Groot stand out, while all the other aliens are predominantly humanoid in their nature.

For Sonic, it just seems unnecessary to include a live action element, especially since that seems to veer dangerously close to the cliche "character arrives in our world" trope.

I'd rather Sonic be in his own world, and would much prefer the Unleashed style of human than the realistic ones of the Adventure era.

Here's just a guess of how I think things will go down..

June 23rd 2015: Sega reveals Sonic Movie teaser poster, and release date. On the same day, Sony officially opens the Sonic movie website, which just features a logo.

Sept-Oct 2015: Casting details announced. Director revealed.

April-August 2016: Filming Begins. Sega unveils another teaser poster.

Comi-Con 2016: Sony unveils Sonic movie teaser trailer. It's shown in theaters across the country (attached to some other kids movie) a week or two later.

Oct. 2016: Full trailer is shown in theaters, and on the Sonic Movie website. Sega unveils some more posters to coincide with the new trailer.

Sometime in April-May-June 2017, the movie is released.

I wish we'd get some more info.. I'm so hyped for this

My point is less that they don't stand out and more that the general public recognizes that anthropomorphic animal characters can be used in live action films for things other than comedy. Something which seems worth reiterating considering that people are still willing to pull out their torches and pitchforks over the fact that Shadow the Hedgehog featured a foul mouthed small mammal wielding firearms in a quasi-realistic environment and then tried to use him in dramatic scenes.

For Sonic, it just seems unnecessary to include a live action element, especially since that seems to veer dangerously close to the cliche "character arrives in our world" trope.I'd rather Sonic be in his own world, and would much prefer the Unleashed style of human than the realistic ones of the Adventure era.

I'm not saying that live action is necessarily better for Sonic (primarily because I'm worried that live action won't be able to do justice to the glory that is Eggman's mustache), in fact I was pretty surprised to hear that it wasn't going to be all CGI . All I'm saying is that live action could work for Sonic and that it's not worth boycotting the movie over just yet, and trust me, I don't want to see a "Sonic comes to the real world" plot any more than you do.

That is a fair point.

It does raise the question of whether the general masses will accept Sonic as something besides comedy, though.

I'm not boycotting the movie so much as extremely skeptical about the whole prospect until we get some sort of preview what this will look like.

I don't think Sonic and Rocket are really all that comparable. Rocket, in the movie, basically looks like someone dressed up an actual raccoon. It's easy enough for him to fit into a live-action movie and be taken seriously because he's only a few degrees off from something realistic anyway.

Sonic's very much not that. His design is cartoony and heavily stylized. He's Mickey Mouse with spikes. That's not going to fit into live action in the same way as Rocket. And they can't de-stylize him without losing his iconic look and making the fans riot.

Rocket stylistically fits in. But the general point is that he is still a talking raccoon in a space opera. Even in a comedic space opera, a talking raccoon being one of the main characters is an idea most people wouldn't entertain because it is inherently stupid. His very existence is the most nonsequitar thing in the whole film, and it was probably the biggest reason why Guardians' public impressions were trending so negatively compared to other Marvel films. And in the end, he turned out to be the best thing about it aside from perhaps the soundtrack.

It's just another example- in a long list of historical examples- that talking animals of all aesthetic persuasions can be engaging to an audience as much as a human actor can; in turn, it shines a light on the frustration Sonic fans like me feel when people insist he cannot be engaging outside of a comedic context while at the same time refusing to give an actual reason for it.

Wait, I thought this movie was going to be a comedy? Isn't that one of the (few) things we know already?

At least Hollywood is slowly learning. First there was news that the new Smurfs movie would be using the original comics and cartoon show for its source material and would now take place on the Smurfs world. But just recently Hasbro has mentioned that the next Transformers film is aiming to be a fully animated movie akin to the original show and movie, and that it will be an origin story set entirely on Cybertron (no crappy humans, yay!!). So here's hoping Sonic doesn't ignore this trend of actually adhering to the source material and what made the franchise popular to begin with.

On an unrelated note, man what I wouldn't give for a traditional animated Sonic show or movie (not the OVA tho that was good) using a style similar to Sonic CD's intro and outro movies. Loved watching those over and over as a kid.

I believe Van stated that the tone he was aiming for was comparable to that of the Iron Man films, which include a reasonable mix of comedy and action. Of course he said that months ago, so who knows what kind of alterations he has been asked to apply to his script since then.

Well, I mean, it's not just the Sonic fandom either. Just look at how freakin' huge the furry fandom is. A lot of people out there identify pretty closely with anthropormophic animals. The Sonic fanbase is no joke either, and for what it's woth, the fact that the Sonic fanbase is amongst the top of those that produces a huge amount of fanfiction should be an indicator. Just look at how worked up we get over the way characters were portrayed in Sonic Lost World.

It still bothers me that they chose to go with live action. CGI would of been perfect for sonic. I still have hope this though but yea I hope we can at least get some info this summer.

So... I think we've basically established that we don't want a "Sonic is transported to the human world" plot, but that still leaves us with a very important question. What kind of plot do we want?

I think that in Van's shoes I'd go for a compressed adaption of S3&K and Adventure. S3&K simply because if they're going to include Knuckles, and are planning on using him correctly, then Angel Island and the Master Emerald are going to require a proper introduction. Now S3&K can cover all that on it's own so why did I decide to do Adventure as well? There are several reasons actually.

1. Amy: The plot of S3&K alone kinda precludes Amy (or anyone else) from having a role in the plot as the "obligatory female protagonist". In this day and age that's PR suicide.

2. Length: To be frank S3&K alone just doesn't have enough material for a feature length film. At most I could see you getting half-an-hour out of it. Adventure can provide enough material to get it up to a reasonable runtime.

3. Shadow: whether you like him or not Shadow is a very marketable character. He might not make it in to this film but, on the off chance there's a sequel I can't see them passing up an opportunity to use the ultimate life-form. In that event it would be best to have all the Angel Island stuff out of the way.

4. Chaos: Pretty self explanatory. Do not deny that it would be awesome to see him in live-action.

I don't see the need to do an adaptation. Those stories already exist in the games themselves, and ideally the movie should exist as partly as a marketing vehicle to get new people playing the old games. Also, this is an opportunity to use the medium to build something from the ground up that's much more freer of fan expectations than it would be if it had to adapt something we hold close to our hearts. We may never get the chance to have a second film and I don't want it squandered on a story we know. Just make an action adventure story using the basic elements of Sonic stories (Sonic vs. Eggman, Tails, Knuckles and Amy provide support, Chaos Emeralds, explosions, maybe Metal and Super Sonic) and allow a competent writer to eke some interpersonal and internal conflict from the heroes during the proceedings. Since Boom thoroughly botched it up, the whole "Sonic needs to learn to trust his friends" angle is still on the table.

What kind of story would I like? Well, since the film series would more than likely be a separate continuity, why not go for an origin story? It could show Sonic's family, where he came from, how he got his powers, etc.

I see what you're getting at. I'm just worried that Knuckles is going to be stuck as sidekick #2 unless they do some form of adaption. It doesn't need to be a scene for scene recreation of S3&K/Adventure, just something to establish that he's someone important in his own right, and not just "random friend of Sonic's."

I don't have a story yet, but my pre-credits sequence would be the first meeting of Sonic and Tails, it would take place a few years before the main plot of the movie.

I've thought about what I'd do if I were making a Sonic movie.. anyway, here's some ideas I was spitballin' in WordPad. Ideally, I'd like there to be more humor to it.

I believe a Sonic movie should be marketed as an action film with a serious premise, but I want to see some comedy in it too. What I've got so far seems a little too dramatic, but oh well..

I wanted to explore the Robotization concept used in SatAM, but took it a bit further, with Eggman roboticizing animals to sort-of use as beta-test for his true plan of roboticizing humans.. It would take place in the Sonic Adventure universe, and focus on Sonic first meeting Tails and Eggman. Sequels would introduce Shadow, Rouge and Knuckles.

I'm kind of embarrassed by how.. bad this kinda is, but whatever.. (Sorry if the text is kinda jumbled together in spots. For some reason, whenever I post here, the board screws up my posts..)

Movie begins in a forest at daytime. Camera passes through some trees, revealing a dirty laboratory, covered in rust, moss and cobwebs. Camera slowly pans into a smokestack (with an Eggman emblem smeared onto it.)

A military chopper flies overhead. The word "G.U.N" is written on the side. Topaz, from Sonic X, makes a cameo in this scene, telling the rest of the troops why they're there. Reports of teenage vandals who've entered the factory have gone missing and people in nearby towns have reported hearing strange noises coming from it.

The troops repell in from the chopper, (breaking through a large glass ceiling) and take a look around. Nothing. Everything is quiet. But not for long. Soon the crew are ambushed by a group of large robots, which pick off the soldiers one by one (Nothing graphic, just a few soldiers get knocked into walls, or over railings. Nothing extreme) The remaining soldiers run for it. They find a large door, like one to a bank vault, they work together, and with all their strength, manage to pull it open, and close it just in time to keep the robots from getting in.

Topaz radios for backup, but her communicator was damaged during the chaos. Loud bangs are heard on the other side of the door. The robots are trying to get in. The team looks around to see they are in a large prison chamber.

A mysterious figure in one of the cells asks to be freed, but the soldiers are hesitant to release him. He taunts the crew saying they're as good as dead without his help, but still, they refuse. The robots pound on the door, while the prisoner just chuckles to himself, saying good luck to the team.

The doors bust open. The team fires their guns at the robots, but it is no use. Some of the soldiers are picked up and tossed into walls. The prisoner asks if Topaz has changed her mind yet.

A large robot heads for Topaz, pounding the floor with its arm, missing her by inches, causing her to fall to her feet. Frantic, she pulls a lever releasing the prisoner who is.. (Dun! Dun! Dun!) Sonic.

Sonic takes out the robots with ease. Neither the soldiers, nor the viewer gets a good look at him, becuase of how fast he is moving. just a blue blur flying to and fro across the screen. At one point, Sonic's spiky shilouette is seen through steam hissing out of some busted pipes.

The robots are trashed, and Sonic takes off. Topaz gives pursuit, whilst the others tend to their injured comrades. She follows him into a tunnel. She cocks a gun at Sonic, who immediately stops, slowly holding up his hands and turning around to face her, and the viewer. He's dirty, and has two broken, rusty handcuffs on each wrist. (Similar to the cover of Sonic comic #48) Topaz lowers her gun, looking at him in astonishment. Sonic turns around and runs off the ledge, Topaz chases after him, to see a large waterfall leading to a stream far, far below. She puts the gun in its holster, believing Sonic to have perished in the water.

The team finds the missing teenagers in capsules and releases them, one of the soldiers mentions they're unconscious, but alive. Topaz asks what is going on here. She looks at a computer screen with another Eggman emblem on it, tinted red, a countdown is on the computer, ticking down from 72 hours. Cut to black.

Meanwhile, Eggman is being escorted to a maximum security facility in a van. Some soldiers give exposition on Eggman's past, talking about his experimentation on animals, blueprints for weapons of mass destruction, and other atrocities. Eggman ignores them, his head hanging low, as if he is depressed. A loud whooshing sound is heard. Eggman quickly lifts up his head with a manical smile. His signature sunglasses glow a bright neon blue.

A bird-like robot swoops down from the sky and flips the van over. Eggman seizes his chance and jumps out of the flipped-over vehicle. A snake-like robot falls comes from the sky and wraps around his wrist, forming a large laser-rifle on his arm. Eggman fires it into the wall of the Facility, tearing it apart. Sirens blare as soldiers scramble to retaliate. A large military chopper descends in front of Eggman. The pilot is ready to hit the button and fire a missle at him, but the chopper is blown to bits by something offscreen.

Quick cut to the sky, the Egg Carrier is seen emerging from the clouds. Swatbots descend from the sky onto the field and aim their rifles at all of the military, who lower their weapons and surrender. Eggman strolls into the facility and swipes a Chaos Emerald, then thanks the troops for leading him right where he wanted to be. The Eggmobile descends from the Egg Carrier. Eggman gets on and floats to the skies. The robots, and the Egg Carrier take off, leaving the military base in ruins. Crush40's Sonic Boom remix begins to play as it goes into the opening titles.

Classic Sonic is seen running through Green Hill Zone, (Similar to Sonic CD's opening) A very light-hearted scene compared to the darker scenes which opened the movie. Opening credits are displayed on the screen as Sonic runs like a maniac through Green Hill.
The viewer meets Amy Rose, and just like the games, she harbors a very open and obsessive crush on Sonic. She gives him a friendship bracelet, as thanks for saving her from a rockslide.

Cut to present day, the dirty, dingy Sonic from the start of the movie awakens on the shore of an island.  He gets up, rubbing his head. A familar set of palm trees stand before him. A smile comes over his face. He's home. He runs through the trees and brushes past a few bushes, only to see his entire homeland is destroyed. Dead trees everywhere, a brown smog covering the skies, and a huge crater in the center of it all.

Eventually, Sonic and Tails meet, by crashing into one another in the middle of a forest. Tails asks for Sonic's help, to which he refuses. Some robots show up, asking for the emerald. Sonic takes out one, only for several others to appear in the bushes. Tails carries Sonic into the air, causing the robots to shoot each other by mistake.

Tails explains he found a weird glowing rock and ever since, he's been chased by robots. Sonic scoffs at his petty dillemma and once on safe ground, decides to take off. Tails, feeling lonely, invites Sonic inside for some food. While inside, Tails gives a disinterested Sonic a tour of his place, showing off some of his works: The Tornado, and a wrist-mounted ring generator he created after dissecting a broken robot. Sonic doesn't care. His only interest is food.

Sonic tries to leave the next morning, but Tails coaxes him into staying by offering him all the food he can eat, in exchange for a few chores. Basically, Sonic treats Tails like crap for the first half of the movie, but eventually the two bond. After a robot trashes Tails house, in pursuit of the Emerald, Tails anaylzes it and discovers a Flicky bird inside. They deduce Eggman is building an army Sonic goes off to stop him, though he is driven more by selfish desire for revenge, instead of saving humanity.

Sonic asks for Tails help getting into Eggman's lair, knowing he'll need his tech. Tails gives him the ring generator. A device that allows Sonic to shoot rings off of his wrist at enemies. Its chemical compund is highly unstable, so tossing one off would be like shooting a grenade. Tails warns not to hold onto a ring for too long. The rings give off a strong dose of energy which grows exponetially with each passing second.

Soon the two board the Tornado a head off for Eggman's lair, following a tracking device found on the broken robot. I think this would be a good time for some comical banter between Sonic and Tails.

The crater Sonic stumbles across earlier in South Island leads to Eggman's underground lair. The plane does a nosedive inside. Tails covers it with a tarp and hides it behind a few crates. Sonic mentions they stick out like a sore thumb and need disguises. They find some old robot parts and blend in with the others. Again, good opportunity for some comedic banter between Sonic & Tails.

Sonic and Tails get separated when an announcement on the PA System mentions to report to the stadium, for the games are about to begin.

All of the robots take a seat in a large arena. Snively makes a cameo appearance here as an almost human-like robot, floating around the stadium on a hovering platform. He serves as the games announcer, talking about how only the roughest, toughest, most lethal machines can serve Dr. Eggman.

A Motobug and a Swatbot are brought out. The Swatbot fires a wrist-mounted laser at the Motobug, blasting it to bits. The robots cheer. The announcer re-enters, saying that was too quick. The audience wants more of a show. Something with a little more.. carnage.

Slow-Motion shot of Metal Sonic's backside walking through a tunnel into the ring. The announcer brags about the newest contender. Sharp, Merciliess, and with lightning-quick reflexes. The Swatbot's leg opens up, revealing a rifle inside. The Swatbot quickly grabs holds of the rifle and fires it at Metal Sonic, who dodges it at lightning speed, whips behind the Swatbot, retracts a blade from his wrist and impales the Swatbot, who falls over onto his knees lifeless and sparking. Metal Sonic then slices the Swatbot's head off. The audience cheers. Tails, watching in the crowd, gulps nervously.

Snively sends out a wave of Swatbots charging towards Metal Sonic, who cuts through them all, leaving nothing but oil and machine parts left. The audience cheers. Eggman, watching from his skybox, smiles deviously.

Snively asks if there is anyone left brave enough to face Eggman's champion? Tails nervously gets up, walking past other robots. A spotlight shines on him. Tails is thrust forward into the ring by two Swatbots, and falls face-first onto the floor, his robot-head falling off, revealing it was a disguise. Eggman stands up in confusion.

Snively asks the crowd what they should do with this intruder. Sonic stands up, demanding he let Tails go, trying to sound cool and defiant. He realizes he's still in the robotic suit, however, and comically struggles to get out of it for a few minutes, until finally revealing himself to the crowd.

Sonic mocks Metal Sonic, jokingly asking if his nose is really that big. Metal shoots a cable from the palm of his wrist, which wraps itself around Sonic's neck. Metal swings Sonic in the air and slams his body onto the floor with incredible force. A big battle commences between the two, with Sonic getting his butt handed to him.

Sonic gets up, wobbling around, trying to keep his balance. Metal walks over, a long blade stretches out from his wrist. He looks up at Eggman in his skybox. Eggman shakes his head. Metal nods and retracts the blade back into his wrist.

For a brief moment, the viewer sees things through Metal's eyes. Everything is tinted red and has some static to it. Eggman's voice echoes in Metal's head.

Eggman: Bring him to me.

Metal lifts an arm, and motions for some robots to come and grab Sonic. Suddenly, the Tornado bursts into the arena. Tails fires off a missile which sends Metal flying into the area, through the glass of Eggman's skybox. Eggman grits his teeth and bellows for his robots to attack. Sonic hops in and the two make an escape.

Sonic is pissed at Tails for rescuing him, wanting to have gotten his revenge on Eggman. Sonic and Tails fight for control of the plane, causing it to do a few barrell rolls. They make their escape, tearing up Eggman's lair in the process.

Eggman retreats to his quarters, and sees The Tornado on a large computer monitor. He orders one of his robots sitting at the computer, to fire. The robot presses a button and a large missile flies towards the Tornado, blowing the plane to bits.

A snowy forest. Sonic lies motionless on the snowy ground.

He remembers the last few minutes, the laboratory exploding, Eggman laughing maniacally, Tails yelling at Sonic, and a quick glimpse of Amy from all those years ago.

Sonic's eyes open. He's beat-up and dirty. Wreckage and debris lay all around him. Treetops are on fire. He looks to the left, far off in the distance, smoke billows from Eggman's destroyed factory. He rubs his head and gets up, holding his arm. He looks down and sees his backpack. He quickly scrambles to see if the Emerald is still there. It's empty. He grits his teeth in anger and tosses it to the ground.

Sonic walks on, wading through the ankle-high snow.  In the distance, he sees Amy. Shocked, Sonic runs through the snow-covered forest, passing through the trees, past and present flash together. He reaches Amy, but she fades into nothingness. Sonic holds an arm forward, and falls to his knees, once again, feeling the guilt for her loss.

He punches the snow. He looks down to the ground and sees part of Tails' plane, the Tornado, the Insigna of his two-tails painted on.
He remembers all of the good things Tails did for him and how badly he treated him. A look of anger and determination comes over Sonic's face. He gets up, and looks towards the sky. An armada of Eggman's ships fly over the horizon. Sonic generates a ring and charges off in pursuit.

Some calm, serene music plays during a montage of scenes showing Sonic running across the world. He's seen running across a beachside at sunset, (Think of that beach level from Donkey Kong Country Returns. In my head, there's a really nice use of colors here) He's seen jumping from rock to rock to cross a lake in the middle of a forest, then seen stopping to catch his breath in the middle of a rainy field (trees and an old barn seen in the distance), water dripping from the tip of his nose. Then seen slowly wading through knee-high snow near a mountain, (teeth chattering comically) Tails is seen putting the finishing touches on his plane, while Eggman is shown in the Egg Carrier, looking out a large window, ready for his attack. He walks into his bedroom and eyes a framed portrait of Professor Gerald, and himself as a child.

Sonic walks up a grassy hill at sunrise. He wipes a sweatdrop from his forehead and passes a few bushes to see a large city across a lake. He dashes across the water, creating a huge wave behind him, which knocks a few surfers off their boards as he reaches the shore. A few beachgoers look in awe at Sonic, while some mothers grab ahold of their babies.

Sonic: ..What? Never seen a blue hedgehog before?

Sonic walks past the beachgoers, who look dumbfounded.

Sonic: Okay, first things first, find the emerald, kick tubby's butt, and patch things up with Tails.

An angry look of determination comes over Sonic. He generates a ring.

Sonic: Yeah, let's do thi--

The curvy legs of two girls in bikinis pass by Sonic.

Sonic drops his ring and follows in a daze.

In his workshop, Tails removes his goggles, oil stained all over him. He gets in the cockpit and pulls a lever. The engine roars.

Tails: Yes! Okay, Engines.. Check.

Tails presses a button on a small computer.

Tails: . GPS.. Online.

Tails presses another button. 'Good Feeling' by FloRida plays.

Tails: ..Who needs that blue pineapple anyway?

Tails presses a button on his garage door, opening it. A runway appears, (Similar to the scene from 'Sonic Adventure') Tails starts the plane and soars into the sky.

And there's kind of a gap here. In my head, there would be a scene where Sonic outruns the Police, similar to episode 1 of Sonic X. Eventually, he is reunited with Topaz and tells her of Eggman's plan. She equips the G.U.N Troops with EMP Rifles which can disable Eggman's robots. There's some plot element about Eggman hijacking a satellite, so he gains complete access to Defense Systems, the Media, and what-not. He'd basically run the world if he gains access to this satellite.

That night, A red carpet is laid out as reporters, high-society folk and celebrities arrive. The Emerald is on display in a glass case. A limo pulls in, and Eggmans struts out in a tuxedo, top hat and cane. People look in confusion as Eggman walks down the red carpet. Nobody is taking his picture. He whacks one of the paprazzi over the head with his cane. The paparazzo quickly snaps a bunch of pictures.

City Skyline. Tails pilots a new version of the Tornado, purple and shaped like an X. An onscreen computer beeps, tracking the energy source of the Emerald. It's 3 miles away. He narrows his eyes and does a nosedive into the city.

Eggman waltzes into the Museum, and take a drink, then walks in front of a podium, knocking the museum curator aside. He goes on about how ungratfeul humanity is, and boasts about his Grandfather Professor Gerald. Robots storm the Museum. Eggman leaves the museum, Emerald in hand, locking the high-society people inside with a bomb ready to blow.

Tails blasts a hole in the wall of the museum. Everyone flees right before it blows to smithereens. Eggman hijacks the Satellite as planned and.. controls.. stuff? I dunno these are just ideas, not a fully-fleshed out script or anything.

The Egg Carrier hovers over the city. Robots descend onto the ground, wreaking havoc. Tails shoots down a few buzzbombers, but panics, realizing he is outnumbered. Frantically, he keeps firing, but keeps missing.

Sonic appears, running across the rooftops. He spin-dashes one of the buzzbombers that's about to hit Tails, then lands on the plane, complimenting Tails on his work.

Tails wants nothing to do with S'onic, Sonic apologizes, and asks Tails to protect the townspeople while he goes to find Eggman. Tails is unsure of himself, but Sonic says he believes in him. This gives Tails confidence to do what Sonic asks. Sonic flashes a thumbs up at Tails then takes off.

Sonic spin-dashes a few robots as he runs through a busy street, when he's suddenly knocked backwards into the wall of a building, leaving a a huge crack in the side of it. Some bricks drop to the ground as Sonic opens his eyes. Metal Sonic is seen slowly walking through a cloud of smoke, eyes glowing red.

Sonic gets up, wiping a blood-drop from his lip, flashing Metal a cocky smile. The engine on Metal's backside fires up, charging him forward. Sonic jumps onto Metal's head, hopping over him. Metal turns around and gives chase. The two run through the city, (In my mind, "Free" from Sonic Free Riders would play in the background of this scene) weaving in and out of traffic. (A few teens watching get out their iPhones and take video as they pass by)

A shoulder-mounted rifle forms on Metal. He fires off a barrage of small missiles at Sonic. Sonic turns around, muttering 'Oh Shi--' before one of the missiles explodes behind him, propelling him forward. Sonic flies toward the viewer in slow-motion, making a goofy face of panic. Back to norma speed, He lands foot first on the ground, but regains his footing, not losing any momentum. He runs up the wall of a skyscraper. He zig-zags back and forth, narrowly missing each missile, which hits the wall of the building instead.

Metal flies up the side of the building, close behind. He holds out his palm forward, shooting out a cable, which wraps around Sonic's ankle. He swings Sonic off the building, sending him flying into the window of another building. He lands in a office full of cubicles. People panic and run for cover. Sonic screeches to a halt, Metal appears in front of the shattered window. Sonic generates a pair of rings and tosses them at Metal, who dodges them, and charges at Sonic. The two fly out another window. Metal clenches onto Sonic as the two do a freefall towards the streets below.

Sonic kicks his legs at Metal's chest, breaking free of his grip, but Sonic is still falling. He lands onto a semi-truck, Metal appears behind, firing off a huge laser from his chest. Sonic runs from Metal (Think of a scene from Sonic Adventure where Sonic is running from the Whale or G.U.N Truck) and jumps off the front of the truck, as it explodes and flies into the air.

Sonic looks up as the truck spins in the air above him. The fiery wreckage smashes into a building. Sonic keeps running, up and down the sides of skyscrapers.
The two make their way back to the city streets. Sonic decides to run into oncoming traffic, weaving back and forth between cars. A semi-truck is heading right for him. Sonic slides underneath it at the last second, causing Metal to hit it dead-on.

Sonic: Metal Sonic? More like.. Scrap-Metal Sonic. Heh. *pause* ...Man, I'm glad nobody was around to hear that.

Sonic heads for the abdandoned Robotnikcorp Laboratory.

A massive robot stands lifeless in the dark laboratory. Eggman stands in front of it, his backside turned to Sonic. He talks about the robot standing before him, dubbed  'The Peacemaker' if approved, it would have been used to fight in wars, eliminating the need for human soldiers. He begins a speech about how his grandfather spent his life building machines to protect this country. He even built him a cybernetic arm as a child, after losing it in an accident. He used his fortune to fund hospitals with the latest advancements in medical technology.

He was a fine, upstanding man and his country betrayed him and tried him for a crime he didn't commit. This country must pay for its sins and It's only fitting people be wiped out with the technology once used to protect them.

Sonic generates a ring and tosses it at Eggman, who turns around and fires an assault rifle at it, breaking it to bits. Sonic slowly holds his hands up. The robot's arm rises up. Eggman jumps onto it, telling him they could've worked together. Sonic is a miracle of nature. He wanted to harness that speed in his machines, which is why he created Metal Sonic.

Metal Sonic comes in from behind, beaten-up and sparking. The two fight once again. Sonic generates two rings in each hand, and runs over to Metal, clocking him left and right with both rings. Metal is sent rolling backward, but quickly regains his footing, setting off a barrage of tiny blades from the palms of his hands. Sonic dodges most of them (in slow-motion) but is grazed by a few, though it doesn't seem to faze him. Sonic runs over to Metal and starts hitting him again with both rings, but Metal dodges every attack, then sends Sonic stumbling backward with a blow to the face.

A large blade retracts from Metal's left arm, he swings it down towards Sonic, going in for the kill. Sonic holds up one of the rings against the sword, but the sheer force Metal presses against the sword sends Sonic slowly falling to his knees. Sonic grits his teeth, holding onto the ring for dear life. The friendship bracelet Amy gave him as child slips out from underneath his glove and slides down his wrist. He clenches a fist, and gains the strength to stand up against the sword, he knocks Metal's arm aside, then goes nuts hitting him left and right with the two rings at an incredible speed. This goes on for about 10 seconds. Sonic jumps into the air in slow-motion, then performs a homing-attack which sends Metal flying backward into the chest of Eggman's robot, putting a large dent into it.

Sonic lands, panting heavily. Metal falls off of the robot and lands in front of Sonic, stumbling around a bit, trying to get his footing. A crack forms on his head.
Sonic looks in awe as Metal Sonic's head crumbles apart, revealing Amy Rose underneath. Her eyes glowing red. Sonic runs over to her.

Sonic: Amy! What happened to--

Amy gives Sonic a roundhouse kick to the face, knocking him onto his side.

Eggman: She's not your friend anymore, Hedgehog. She belongs to me now.

First-person view through Amy's eyes, showing everything red and static-y. A crosshair locks onto Sonic's face, saying: "Target Locked"

Sonic: Amy! Wake up! It's me!

A shoulder mounted rifle forms on Amy's shoulder.

Sonic: Oh snap..

A missile fires at Sonic,  who quickly dodges it, Matrix-style. It blows up some machinery nearby. Flames envelop the room.

Amy grabs Sonic, her robot suit damaged, spikes scuffed, a look of complete evil on her face. She spins him around and tosses him against a wall, breaking it to

pieces. Sonic, blood dripping from his lip, charges back, but is knocked to his feet from a blow to the face. Eggman laughs, and pulls out an iphone and taking video of the fight.

Amy walks over to Sonic and in slow-motion, kicks him in the face, blood splatter flies in the air. Slow-motion shot of Amy looking down at Sonic, her pink spikes brustling in the wind, flames roaring in the background. Her arm transforms into a long sword. It looks like this is the end for Sonic.

Sonic holds up his arm feebly, the friendship bracelet Amy gave him as a child slips out from underneath his glove and onto his wrist. Light reflects off of it. Suddenly, Amy freezes. Her eyes turn green like Sonic's. The sword retracts back into her arm. Eggman drops the iphone and looks in confusion.

Eggman: What are you doing? Kill him!

Amy stumbles over to Sonic in a daze. She sinks her head into Sonic's chest. Sonic's sortof taken aback by this, but is happy to see her again, and puts his arms around her.

Eggman: This ain't over yet!

Eggman holds up his cybernetic arm, and presses a button on it. Amy lifts up her head, eyes glowing red once more. Sonic quickly kicks her backward.

Amy flies into the air, and starts glowing red, she grabs pieces of the rafters and tosses them down at Sonic, who narrowly dodges them all. He throws a ring at one, slicing it in two. He jumps onto a piece of the broken rafter as it falls, then onto another, and onto another, until he reaches Amy.

Sonic: This might sting a bit..

Sonic grabs Amy by the arm, swings her over his head, and slams her to a power generator below, creating an explosion, while frying the circuitry of the robotic suit at the same time.

Eggman grits his teeth and clenches his fists.

Sonic jumps down and picks her up, the robot suit cracks apart into pieces. She's back to normal now.

Amy: Wha..

Sonic: Hey.. Long time no see.

There is a long pause as the two stare at each other. The sound of a gun cocking is heard offscreen. Sonic looks up to see Eggman holding a futuristic looking assault rifle.

Sonic: Oh come on.. Seriously?

Eggman: Game Over.

Suddenly, Tails blasts into the Factory in the Tornado.

Eggman looks over with a confused look on his face as Tails fires a laser cannon of his own at him, sending him flying off of the robot arm.

Tails: A-hem. Is this really the time for that?

Sonic looks down and sees that he is holding Amy in his arms, who is giving him a romantic look. He drops her to the floor. Amy rubs her head and gives him a glare. Sonic nervously smiles.

The laboratory rumbles. Sonic generates a ring from his glove.

Sonic: Tails! Get Amy out of here!

Amy runs to the Tornado.

Tails: Come on!

Sonic: I can't! He's still got the emerald!

The ceiling crumbles apart. The debris seperates Sonic from Tails and Amy. Sonic walks through the darkness and walks towards a ledge. A massive robot rises in front of him. The room is tinted red from sirens lighting up the area. The robot stomps down its foot, Sonic runs to avoid it, running along the walls.
Outside, buzzbombers hit cars with laser blasts, while Swatbots pistol-whip civilizans and terrorize others. Tails pulls a lever, dropping an EMP grenade from the Tornado, disabling a group of Swatbots, causing them to fall down lifeless.

Amy: What happened here?

Tails: Egghead's virus has taken control of everything. I'm trying to hack into his satellite, but its heavily encrypted.

Tails tries making up a password, but get an 'Access Denied' message.

Amy: Maria.

Tails: ..What?

Amy: Try Maria.

Tails: Why?

Amy: Just do it.

Tails types Maria in. A message appears onscreen, saying Access Granted.

Amy: I know a lot about this guy.

Tails gives a confused look to Amy.

Back in the Laboratory, Sonic  dodges the feet of the robot as Eggman tries to stomp on him.

Eggman: Time to die, Hedgehog!

Sonic runs across the walls. The robot slams a fist into it, it misses Sonic. Sonic jumps onto the arm, and runs up to the shoulder. The robot's other arm slams down onto its shoulder. Sonic stands still, inbetween the fingers of the robot hand.

Eggman: Get off, you miserable rodent!

Eggman slams the robot against a wall, sending Sonic falling onto a platform below.

Eggman presses a few buttons, sending missiles flying at Sonic, who runs, narrowly dodging them all. The last missile explodes, sending Sonic flying forward into a wall. Sonic regains his footing. The robot bends down, eye-to-eye with Sonic.

Sonic generates two rings in each arm. Tails words echo in his head.

Tails: Make sure you don't hold onto those for too long. They're unstable.. who knows what will happen..

Sonic starts glowing, with a crazed smile on his face. Objects begins flying around the room.

Eggman: What are you doing?

Sonic: If I'm going down, I'm taking you with me..

Sonic's gloves rip to shreds as he struggles to hold onto the rings. Computers and other various debris hover around Sonic. Steel support beams start to bend.

Sonic glows a neon blue, his eyes turn red, as if in a weakened Super Sonic state. Sonic grits his teeth, and lets out a yell. He releases the rings, sending them flying into opposite directions. He begins running across the room at such an incredible speed it looks as though there are a thousand Sonic's.

Eggman tries to lock onto Sonic via the control panel, but a million crosshairs appear on the computer. Sonic rips the arms and legs off of the massive robot.
A gigantic blue tornado forms, sending what's left of the the robot (The head) flying through the roof of the factory and into the sky. Tails and Amy look in astonishment at the blue tornado in the distance.

Cars in the city float off of the ground. Civilans grab onto lampposts to keep from getting sucked up.

The Tornado diappates, though Sonic and Eggman are still airborne. Sonic lands inside the robot's head, eye-to-eye with Eggman. He takes the handcuffs he was attatched to for so long and cuffs Eggman to a lever. He jumps out of the head as it falls, crashing down to the ground as the factory falls to pieces.

Sonic looks at the friendship bracelet on his wrist, smiles and closes his eyes, as he too, falls.

Tails activates rocket thrusters on the Tornado, sending it flying towards the crumbling factory. Amy grabs onto her seat for dear life. Tails does a few nosedives and barrell rolls, dodging crumbing debris, and catches Sonic as he falls. The Tornado flies off into the horizon.

Police surround the area of the destroyed factory. Eggman crawls out of the robot's head, badly beaten and coughing. He looks up to see the barrell of several guns pointed directly at him. He sheepishly holds up his hand and nervously says: "Hi..?'

Sonic returns to Green Hill with the Emerald, planting it into the ground. Suddenly, Checkerboard hills and cliffs rise from the ground, along with trippy-looking palm trees and flowers, straight from Sonic 1.

Tails says he's relived it's all over and he can get back to his work. Sonic comments that was boring. There's still 6 other Emeralds out there to find. Amy says she's game. Tails sighs and decides to go look for them too.

Sonic: Race Ya.

Tails: Oh come on.

Sonic: Alright, Alright, I'll give you guys a head-start..

Tails and Amy run off into the horizon. Sonic smiles. He's free from that awul prison, Amy is back, and he's made a new friend. 'Endless Possibility' kicks in as Sonic flies forward, passing Tails and Amy. Another scene similar to Sonic CD's intro plays as it goes into the credits.

Credits show 16-bit versions of all the characters doing comical things. As the credits wrap-up, the music from Sonic 1's ending plays.

Post-Credits Scene shows Eggman in prison garb being escorted to his cell. He lays down on the mattress and has trouble getting comfortable. He lifts the mattress to find the diary of Professor Gerald. He laughs maniacally as the camera focuses in on the words 'Project Shadow'

Great Post!  :)

I don't think I can think of a full story for a movie, but I can come up with an origin.

Sonic is born from two other hedgehogs (of course) but two months after he was born, his parents are killed in an accident and Sonic is adopted by a family of turtles that he was given to by a GUN soldier that found him. He believes he's a turtle (a spiky, blue, speedy one that can't swim of course) until one day, 15 years later, when he discovers his ability to roll into a ball while helping repel an attack on his home village by robots. One of the robots tries to attack Sonic, but his adoptive father jumps in the way and takes the hit. After the attack is repelled, Sonic rushes over to his adoptive father who, in his dying breath, tells Sonic of his true heritage and tells him to "find the storm". The next day, Sonic leaves his home to find the "storm", which, as he later finds out, is actually a secret organization named S.T.O.R.M (based on the Freedom Fighters) that works for the government, consisting of many original characters, as well as Tails and Dr. Eggman. Their current mission: to defeat an old enemy that has resurfaced 15 years ago. Sonic joins the group and becomes the hero we all know.

Since we are all sharing ideas, I wouldn't mind an origin that wasn't an origin, like not how he came about, or who he is, but more like how he met certain important individuals and how his rivalry with Eggman started.

My ideal would be a mix of game cannon and some original concepts and side game stories woven in to make a more coherent beginning. Ignoring all the more modern stuff for the first movie at least, as a wider audience (non-gamers, parents, older gamers who may not have played the new Sonic games etc), won't be up to speed on all the new stuff and a lot of older gamers will be going for nostalgia based on childhood memories.

Personally some kind of story that bound together different game lore that was presumably set during the beginning of his battles with Eggman but did so in a way that it was original rather than a copy paste of the game senarios would be awesome. Maybe string together the stories of the original Sonic the Hedgehog along with SegaSonic Arcade and Sonic CD, with a scene with Tails left for near the end which would lead into a second movie and the story of the Death Egg, combining Sonic 2 and Sonic 3K before moving onto the newer stuff post Adventure.

Perhaps have an opening where Sonic is introduced to the audience where it displays how beautiful his world and home are, and how he had the ability to run fast, presumably with him running through all this beautiful scenery, but then he discovers his woodland friends are being captured by Eggman and his home is being trashed by robots etc. Then when he goes to investigate he runs into Mighty and Ray who via a short flashback/story show they are having the same problem in their respective territories. Then Eggman appears in a giant mech, banter and battle, then all three get captured and caged by Eggman who takes them to his Trap/Prison Island just off the coast.

From there the trio could band together to escape, with Mighty showing off he could have bent the bars at any time, with Sonic being comically taken aback and a little pissed he didn't do it sooner. Mighty however explains he and Ray had been tracking down Eggman when they ran into Sonic and had wanted to be taken to the epicenter of all the issues and stop it once and for all, to which Sonic nods and agrees that it was a great plan and he's not often one to think ahead like that.

Action ensues with a daring escape and many robots trashed and traps avoided, you could also throw in some hilarious Eggman intercom announcements or threats as they make their way through each area, eventually they make their way to the top floor where Eggman is waiting for them. He rants about how they won't stop him, how he's used the data gathered from the robots and traps, Sonic, Mighty and Ray and their abilities etc to build a super badnik, introducing Metal Sonic.

Metal Sonic knows all their moves and keeps them busy while Eggman sets the self destruct and escapes. The trio manage to outsmart Metal after being pretty badly beaten, realizing that by working together and creating moves and attacks that Metal had no data on in his memory banks that they could defeat him. Sonic then grabs Mighty and Ray and escapes just as the building goes up in a huge Eggman shaped explosion.

Mighty and Ray after saying goodbyes etc decide to head back home now that Eggmans influence on the island has been taken care of, but Sonic wants to try track down Eggman and find out where he fled to and what he has planned next. They wish him luck and they all part ways. In the wreckage Metals eyes light back up and a view from his eyes has data about either Eggmans plans for Time Stones to turn back Sonics victory or plans for the Death Egg show up for the audience to see. Haven't decided which.

Then have the closer with Sonic on his way after Eggman coming to the edge of the island with water all around, commenting he can't swim, then seeing a biplane a ways down the beach and a familiar set of ears and tails sticking out behind it humming away and working on the plane. As Sonic calls out and heads towards him, his ears prick up and the movie fades out.

There's my two cents, it could always go the other way as mentioned and have Sonic running into Amy instead and having the Little Planet adventure take place rather than SegaSonic Arcade, but then I kinda felt Metals creation would have been a little forced if Eggman had only just literally met Sonic and seen him in action via Palmtree Panic rather than a whole facility. Would also be an awesome way to bring Mighty and Ray back into the fold after being out for so long, follow up with a re-release of SegaSonic Arcade on 3DS or digital download on consoles and have them both show up in the anniversary game to have some nice cross promotion going on. Anyway let me know what you guys think :)

Personally, I'd prefer if the movie wouldn't even attempt to explain stuff, but just 'be'. Much like the OVA barely explained anything and just threw us into a world where stuff happened.

A recent example would be Mad Max Fury Road: Everything was just there, no warning, no explanation. No-one questioned the universe they lived in, and it made for a really engaging movie.

So if they show Sonic fighting Eggman in an opening scene, and then have him hang out with Tails at Mystic Ruins, I want them to be theirselves, and not give me a "do you remember how we met"-talk (or worse, throw out one-liners), unless it actually factors into the plot.

The movie shouldn't be there to tie loose ends or something (like, Sonic's origin? That's one of those things guaranteed to go wrong), it should make the viewer curious about the world and the characters on screen first.
