No. It's only SNES/Genesis era with the games listed (Chris may add more games from these consoles) for this event.

Okay, I feel like this topic is getting very redundant, and chances are this post will just be swallowed up in every other post, but it needs to be addressed.

 

This year's awards are only for the SNES/Mega Drive titles.  They were designed for this era, and as such, that is its focus.

 

I understand that you all want to do games on other consoles, and that's great.  But this "contest," which is mostly an experiment on our part at the moment, centers specifically around SNES/Mega Drive titles.  The mindset of this being that these are all games that many of us grew up with and are all quite familiar with.  It makes it considerably easier to create badges that highlight important aspects of the game that way, and plus, SNES and Mega Drive titles are simply much easier to work with and are generally short in length.  Granted, I know that we are a diverse community and not everyone's nostalgia is the same, and I know that we have many skilled players here who can beat some rather lengthy games in no time at all.  However, the fact still stands this contest was designed with familiarity and sentimentality in mind.  We may do other consoles next year, or we may not.  We'll figure it out when we get there.

 

But for now, these demands for other consoles are becoming a little overbearing.  We do appreciate your enthusiasm, but the constant request for N64, GBC, and PS1 games are not only missing the point of this event, but are honestly making this fun little thing we put together a little more taxing than it should be.

 

Further, I want to point out that we've been receiving questions about different ports and remake and the answer is always the same:  All ports are welcome as long as they are loyal ports (with any modified content being optional); remakes are welcome on a case-by-case basis, but the same rule applies.  They must be loyal to the original.

 

If you're unsure rather or not it counts, then look up some gameplay footage on YouTube and compare.  If the levels are laid out differently, have many obstacles that weren't in the original, and have a bunch of other added levels and bonus content, then it's not a loyal port or remake.  If the game has been ported to a system that has significantly lower processing power (Game Boy ports of SNES games, for example), then chances are, it won't be a loyal port.

 

Sorry to sound shrill.  I'm happy that you're all enjoying this little event, and it pleases me to know that you all want in on it.  It's just that some of these repeated requests and argumentative demands are becoming problematic.  I hope you understand and maybe next year we'll be able to satisfy other consoles.  This year, however, we'll be focusing exclusively on SNES/Mega Drive.

Same here. I said I was going to play more games but I just don't have the time for it! I'm still playing SMB3 on GBA as we speak and since I've never beaten it it's taking me a while to finish the damn game. Kirby this ain't!

I wonder if many people will be doing this event once christmas comes and they get all their new things. I may do one or two more games if I feel like it, but once Christmas comes, my new games will be taking priority over this contest. That's one reason I was doing so many games so quickly as well.

Looks unlikely since there's already lots of games available, and with Christmas just around the corner some might not have enough to play most of these games (including me!) You never know though!

There's plenty of games to choose, yet such little time to tackle through 'em with the last week of Christmas coming around (at least in my case, but it may well apply to most of us around here).

 

I am trying to tackle through 12 games (7 Mega Drive, 5 Super Nintendo) and that's it. So far I've managed to beat 4 Mega Drive games and got their pictures for approval, but I'll post 'em all together when it's closer to the deadline.

 

As I mentioned before, there's 7 days to go before the competition ends. So good luck to everyone! ^o^

I've got a question, actually. I got enough treasures for the Gold Kirby award but, I didn't beat Milky Way Wishes. Do I have to beat that too to get the white award? Because if so I'll go ahead and do it since I'm done with all the ones I think I'm going to play (save for a Golden Axe game and maybe Dynamite Headdy).

Doing the requirements for the golden border Kirby award will also net the white border (i.e. Great Cave Offensive 60% will net both). It's too complicated for me to keep it straight otherwise since I'm doing it manually.
