What is the Sonic Franchise to You?

For me, the sonic franchise has been a rollercoaster with some phenomonal titles and some pretty average titles, but I think SEGA are on the right track with Sonic Colors, Generations and Lost Worlds.

For me, it's all about the games. Yeah, I eventually saw the cartoons and glanced at some of the comics. But, I wasn't interested in them as I was for the video games. It offered some pretty fun gameplay that no other game really had at the time, particularly the classic games. Just everything from the artwork to the music and character designs appealed to me. The stories are pretty silly for the most part, but pretty fun despite that and the whole sci-fi/action adventure angle they were going for clicked with me. I digged the Colors-style of storytelling at first, but really my excitement over them doing the whole Sonic and Tails dynamic well pretty much overbloated how much I actually liked it. Now going back, I kinda found it obnoxious. The newer games feel like they're trying to find their footing again. I really liked Generations and Colors' gameplay, though most of the newer games just don't click with me the same way. It is unfortunately a shadow of its own self. But, maybe someday it'll find its niche again. *shrug*
