Awoo.

I'm interviewing Stephen Frost, and you get to submit questions!

You heard right! I'm gathering your questions about Sonic Boom to submit to SEGA. Not all questions can be answered, for obvious reasons, but that shouldn’t stop you from asking!

When I get the answers back, I’ll post them here. So ask away! D

Who is handling the music for the show and the games respectively?

How far along are they currently in production for the games?

What is the characterization of Knuckles? Is he rather dumb, simple-minded, clever, witty, etc or something else?

What was with the change with Tails' Voice actor?

We heard nothing about the 3DS version of Boom and how the developer, Sanzaru games is handling it. Anything about it at all?

If Sonic Boom becomes successful, will the show either be renewed for more seasons or will there be more games for it?

Is this game one hub world with portals leading to levels (think Mario 64) or something akin to Jak and Daxter where each level is basically inside the hub, or linked in some way?

Also, will there be some teamwork mechanics involved?

When can we except something from sanzaru games for the 3ds verison, like a screenshot or small gameplay video?

Are there plans for more Sonic Boom games so that the Boom series may run parallel with the main series?

He spoke about this in SEGABits podcast already. Nothing to state on the soundtrack yet. There's no word on if anyone from SEGA or Sonic Team will contribute to the music.

This may sound like a pretty boring question, but I'd like to know who his personal favourite is to use in the game. Hopefully he'l be able to give an answer that gives us a wee bit more insight into one character.

If possible, I'd like to know when production of the game started, and the same for Lost World. It'd just be interesting to see how the entire Sonic franchise was being built upon.

Also guys, you want to bear in mind which sort of questions he'll be able to answer. Nothing about the 3DS version will be revealed until a time at which SEGA will have decided is right (which he likely won't share with us, but we should know by E3), nor is he going to say "yeah we'll change the character designs cause some fans dont like them lol our bad". Most of what he can tell us about the games at this date will already have been shared.

Is it possible we can get this game running at a stable 60 fps?

Oh I didn't know that. Still, maybe by the time of this interview they'll have some info to give on the subject. Wouldn't hurt to ask again.

Will there be a mix of humans and anthros for the background crowd and NPCs?

Is there any chance of any classic forgotten characters showing up in the game or show like Fang/Nack, Mighty, Bark, or Bean?

Again, this was touched upon by SEGA Bits but no concrete answer yet. It's not the sort of thing he'd be likely to specify.

AT this rate, perhaps a list of what was already mentioned there would be appreciated.

Still, might as well ask again on some cases, just in case the time has finally come for them respectively.

What inspiration did you guys have for the series, and how did it influence your current work?

Or

Who was your favorite character to write for, and why?

Is the combat more of a focus than the speed?

Are both versions of the game longer than their predecessors?

Who is writing the story for the game?

Why was Tails' voice actor changed?

Err. Technically, they don't have predecessors.

  • Game will be at E3. Obvious enough, but you know.
  • Stephen Frost is more focused on the Wii U game now, but has been involved on all fronts from the start. The game and show were going in different directions to start. Show ended up being built more around the game after they came together.
  • Aaron is more focused on Hatsune Miku at the moment.
  • Both the show and game essentially started production at around the same time. It was always intended to be a multimedia project.
  • Sonic Team are the consultants. Character design elements and such are run by them and they make suggestions, but they're not actively involved in the physical development.
  • Frost didnt even get to see the toys until the NY announcement event.
  • There's more licenseing partners outside of Tomy (this has already been mentioned, but still).
  • Continue to build parts of the world across mediums. Some parts in the game and show, some exclusive to either. There are other existing characters being brought back where it makes sense to do so.
  • Show is mainly about 4 main characters and Eggman, but it's still a living, breathing world so they aren't the only ones around.
  • No info on how BRB and SEGA came together to work on the game.
  • SEGA didn't necessarily know Chris Senn was part of BRB at the start. He was really excited to come back to Sonic after so long. He's a level designer for the game. No mention of Tiara.
  • "Familiar but new" is an import way the game is being designed.
  • No guarantee the game will come out before the show. While it is a prequel as far as the timeline is concerned, they're both self-contained. The game better paints their relationships.
  • All the characters can move almost as fast as Sonic at times, but generally Sonic is the fastest.
  • Nothing to state on the soundtrack yet. No word on if anyone from SEGA or Sonic Team will contribute to the music.
  • Character designs are supposed to be "familiar but new". You're supposed to be understand who they are and what they do even if you don't already know. The unique silhouettes were quite important to the designs.

You ought to give it a proper listen though.
