Sonic Generations: Worth Buying?

Why get the HD version whne you can get the Steam version that is the same as the HD version but has multiple mods, 60 frames per second if your PC's good enough and has the Casino Ninght Pinball DLC? 3DS version was lazily made and proper rolling physics is the only reason you should get it.

I like both versions

I felt like the 3DS Version actually tried more with the story. Also, the VS Mode is fun.

3DS version did do more but it wasn't much though and it was another Sonic and Tails adventure, still doesn't explain where C. Tails comes from though. It does look like VS Mode is fun but the level design was pretty mediocre and the soundtrack for it was rushed as well, Tropical Resort and Water Palace don't have Classic remixes.

You should definitely check it out, especially now that the game is a lot cheaper. It's got some really good gameplay, fantastic music and some nice unlockable content plus lots of nostalgic a Sonic overload! Only three problems;

The game is too short.

The story is terribly mediocre.

And the final boss is AWFUL.

But besides that it's worth it! 8D

It was the little touches.

1. In the Genesis Era, Sonic and Tails actually comment about each of the areas after they're restored. The Console Version also does this, but only for Green Hill and Chemical Plant.

2. In the Console Version, there is Skill Customization and Skill Shop.

In the 3DS Version, Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic learn new moves through cutscenes.

After Defeating Big Arm and entering the Dreamcast Era area of White World, both Sonics encounter the Spinners, which first appeared in Sonic Adventure. As Modern Sonic starts taking them out by using his Homing Attack. By watching Modern Sonic, Classic Sonic learns the Homing Attack.

After defeating Biolizard, which they also mention having fought before, Modern Tails gives Modern Sonic a present. The present contains a pair of new shoes, that Modern Tails had designed to make Sonic lighter. This allows Modern Sonic to perform his Stomp attack.

3. In the 3DS version of the Time Eater Reveal cutscene, when Time Eater tries to finish off both Sonics, the Tails actually jump in and block the attack. After the Sonics regain their footing, they then turn Super. In the Console Version, Tails and Sonic's friends just standby and yell encouragement.

4. The cutscene with the Eggmen stuck in the Timeless Dimension was slightly different.

5. In the 3DS Version, Modern Sonic actually arrives way too early for his party. At the end of the game, everyone has arrived and they're celebrating.

So what you're telling me is that Sonic and Tails talks about every level they've been through in the 3DS version? I give you the Genesis era but I don't remember them talking about Emerald Coast to Tropical Resort though.

So basically C. Sonic is pretty much S4 Sonic in the 3DS version. Heck, he even learns the Boost at the end. Sonic has already done the Stomp before, why would Tails tinker with his freakin shoes to do the move again? How does that make any sense. The only difference C. and M. Sonic has in terms of gameplay for the 3DS, is that Modern has the Boost and Stomp.

Ok, I'll give you that scene. It's kind of funny how both M. and C. Tails save both Sonics at the same time.

Sonic didn't have a Stomp in Sonic Rush.

So Classic is 2D and Modern is 3D, I get that. Sounds pretty cool.

Why does classic have a different character though? Why aren't they the same character? Am I missing something really obvious?

When did Sonic have a fat son blink.png

To sum it up: Sonic has had A LOT of gameplay changes over the years, this game is supposed to bring the first gameplay style, from Sonic 1, being represented by Classic Sonic, his original design on those games, with the latest gameplay style in the series, being represented by Modern Sonic, who's differences between him and classic Sonic, his younger self, are subtle, but are there, with there being Classic versions(Levels in 2D Heavily inspired by the Genesis games) and Modern versions(Levels in 3D with a focus on keeping your speed and some 3D platforming with changes for 2D sometime) of 9 levels from older games, being completely recreated in HD.

I liked Generations, especially the Xbox 360 version. Probably one of the best in the series, even. However, I wouldn't suggest it as someone's first Sonic game, if only because part of the appeal is that it has levels from the previous games, and that they're reimagined, but still recognizable as at least the same area.

The 3DS version wasn't bad, either, though it wasn't as good as the 360 release.

Um... just noticed the OP was banned... for asking dumb questions? :P

Also yeah, I got Generations on Steam and I'm mostly happy with it; the only problem I have is sometimes in the City Escape level it can slow down around the the park filled with GUN bots and the approach to the wall-running bit. I will probably get it for the 360 or PS3 at some point, seeing as the newer games are Ninty exclusives. Gotta get my Sonic fix somewhere! :D

Ban dodger. Frequent one at that.

But I still think this topic can stay open - Sonic Generations is quite a good game, and it's been a few years since its release. Do you think this could be a Generations general thread?

But he had a Stomp in Colors DS. Your point is?

Sure why not? We've already started talking Generastions of itself, why not?

Sonic learns the Stomp in Sonic Unleashed after getting a pair of Special Shoes.

Tails gives Sonic a pair of Special Shoes.

Sonic Unleashed never had a Handheld Version and Sonic Rush came out before Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors. Also, Sonic's moveset in Color DS is copied from the Wii Version, which is the only reason why he now has Stomp in Generations 3DS after entering the Modern Era of the White World.

I'm pretty sure Tails modified Sonic's shoes to do the Stomp in Generations 3DS. But Unleashed had a mobile version but that's besides the point. I just think the Stomp should already be part of Modern Sonic's moveset but I digress.

Are we really arguing about the presence of Sonic's abilities in the game?

Sonic Unleashed re-introduced the light speed shoes for the 4th time in the series, and Sonic Colors totally forgot that he had them and relegated it to the use of the Green Wisp.

I don't think power-ups are an issue of canon. At least for Sonic.

But Sonic Generations 3DS had a cutscene dedicated to it? Thing is, I don't think it's plausible to think that the 3DS version of Generations is canon to begin with, it's basically just an excuse plot no matter how you look at it. And the handheld versions never took favor over their console equivalents, so that should end this argument altogether.

If you can find it for real cheap, sure. The story is probably the weakest point in the whole game, but the fun gameplay and killer music remixes make up for that shortcoming.
