Sonic Lost World DLC, Why Sega make Free DLC?

Recommended Posts

Free DLC... Good for user, But Bad for company,

Yesterday(JST) Sega announced Zelda DLC. and Today, Sega Sammy's Stock was dropped to 2,202 yen, Yeah, Actually stock price isn't important, because Nikkei average stock and other Sega Sammy and casino related company's stock price was dropped too. (Konami, Nintendo..  etc etc...)

Actually, I can't understand Why Sega make Free DLC for flopped game. (SLW was flopped this is FACT)

Fee required DLC is have possibility of deal damage to Company's Image and Game's rating if DLC quality is bad but they will earn some money from DLC.. Free DLC is opposite to Fee required DLC. Free DLC isn't have mentioned above possibility. However, Free DLC won't be earn money from DLC.

So. This DLC is dedicated to Sonic fans? answer is NO. Because main game quality is mediocre, Sales was flopped and even Some fans think this game is devastate Sonic franchise, Sega, and even Sega Sammy

That reason is cause this question. "Why Sega make Free DLC for flopped game?".

P.S Actually, I think DLC quality isn't bad

PS2. I'm worried about Sega's not good marketing strategy, reason is simple, If they still maintain bad marketing ability, Sega's LAST hope, Casino and Resort will be sluggish, hopefully Sammy will be handle Sega....

Oh wait. How can I move this post?

SEGA really isn't on it's last legs, plus I've seen some people over on NeoGAF say they were buying the game exclusively for its DLC. Not to mention free DLC can only help their image, so I really don't know what you're on about.

It was Nintendo's choice most likely. They probably thought adding stuff from their own popular franchises would make people who aren't usually interested in Sonic interested in the game (And for the opposite side, it could get them interested in the Nintendo series). Then they just have to buy the base game, which seems less steep and to be an easier intro.

You seem to talk about SEGA/Sammy a lot.

I agree that the Lost World didn't exactly do well, and that simply adding content the user doesn't have to pay for won't change that. As for whether or not the DLC was really harmful to the company-probably not. I mean it's hard to comment. We know little about the inner workings of SEGA OR Nintendo. We don't know how much it cost, who payed for what, or how long it took to develop. In any case, there's really no reason to worry about SEGA over it.

Um, why are you talking so much about Sega/Sammy. There is obviously a problem you have with them that lies beneath the whole stock market thing. I say this because not only did you post in Boom, which at the time kinda made sense, but in Lost World and you made two topics about such.

So if there is a problem that lies deeper than just the stocks, please tell us about that. I'd rather see you argue a point of say "Nintendo should buy Sonic" rather than "SegaSammy is failing so these, and these will fail too". (I'm not saying I want nintendo to buy Sonic, I'm just saying that he should argue something more.. argue-able?)

It's just that, almost if not, no one, cares about this topic on hand. And most will voice this opinion, then the topic leads nowhere. I'd like discussion to happen about whatever his point is but this in particular is just so.. "robotic" to discuss. Maybe it's just me, but when it comes to companies I don't like hearing their financial states unless it's really, Really, REALLY important. If SEGA literally just had ONE dollar, I'd get into some discussion about that and how they should address it. But this seems so invaluable that it makes people mad because it comes off as you 'wanting' SEGA to fail. Because you go out of the way to show why they should sell, rather than show why your concerned about them selling.

I hope you understand and as I said before, if you do have something that lies below this market stuff, tell us about that rather. We like to see people's more emotional driven posts rather than the less. If there's a feeling that's there please do tell, we're more than happy to listen.

EDIT: By 'WE' I mean I and anyone who agrees :P Not forcing my opinions on others.

Look Sega and Sega Sammy have been around for ages....considering they have acquisition to snag ATLUS and keep it thriving..while thinking of their own welfare when doing so..they're doing just fine..and they don't have one person or a bunch of douchebags thinking of their financial direction..they've been in the game for years..and Sonic Franchise alone is over 20! That's saying something...They KNOW what they've done and what they're doing...leave it to the people whose job is worrying about these stuff and just y'know relax and enjoy the goodies they throw our way to buy..

...who knows..you may find some new appreciation in the things they've done so far..in-game and out.

Builds consumer goodwill and Nintendo probably paid for it. Data also shows that DLC sales are relatively low on Nintendo consoles in comparison to the competition, so it probably wouldn't have sold much anyway.

It exists because Nintendo handed a wad of cash to Sonic team and the rights to some of their most beloved franchises and told them not to sell it.

I mean really there isn't any kind of conspiracy here; it's not going to see any books or anything but it's better than reading into it assuming that something terrible has happened at SEGA.

The underlying mechanics of the free DLC is cross-promotion; Sonic fans are made aware of Nintendo properties, Nintendo fans (or fans of the specific franchises, technically speaking) are given an incentive to get Sonic Lost World and make them aware of Sonic. The NiGHTS edition had a similar goal.

Whether it's that effective or not, I don't know. It honestly seems like most people interested in it are Sonic fans who already owned SLW and had an interest in the other franchises prior.

Sonic 06 (Considered worst Sonic game of all time) gets DLC, very worthless DLC. Thus hurting it's image.

Sonic Lost World: Mediocore game (I thought it was decent), gets free DLC. DLC with homages on other franchises. PLUS IT'S FREE! Thus, giving it a good image and encouraging people to buy the base game.

I'd imagine many people would rage if they paid for the Yoshi DLC, and even the Zelda DLC is too short to justify most people paying money for it. I say just cool it, dude. I know you love spending all day and night talking about how SEGA-Sammy is doomed, how much their stocks dropped, and how they should sell the Sonic IP, but come on, just enjoy the free content.

Why is this topic made again? I thought I made it clear since it gets the game some good rep among gamers and for how short the levels are it would be outrageous to pay for it. Also maybe because Sonic Team wanted to give the people who have the game something to come back to or do something fun for once but apparently even people complain about free DLC of all things. Can't Sega ever get a break for once atleast? I mean this level could be completely half assed and boring but Sonic Team toke the time and make a pretty good extra level and they gave it for free so what is your complaint here that doesn't involve with money?

I wish you'd stop trying to push something that is completely wrong and has no relevance. I have never once, anywhere, seen a post from you that doesn't mention "Sega Sammy is fail" or "casino is last hope". What the hell are you even trying to say? Sonic is a profitable character, that makes profits. Sega is one of the biggest third-party companies, and it's clear that it's not going anywhere anytime soon. If another company related to them is failing, that doesn't mean they're going to fail. That's like saying Nintendo is going to fail if Capcom goes out of business, just because Megaman is in the new Smash Bros. game. This is a minute-long free DLC made for a small-budget filler game. A single level. It probably didn't take two weeks to develop. That's not going to kill Sega. Hell, nothing is, until we get a game that's somehow worse than 06.

You know what else makes free DLC? Team Fortress 2.

Think about that.

Team fortress 2 is Successful game. Sales was terrific, game quality is great. SLW is quite different, Game quality is mediocre and sales was terrible. TF2 case is fanservice. Valve earned a LOT of money by main game. So. they made DLC for consumers and fans. But SLW is different. Sega didn't earned a money by SLW! (Look at 3Q financial report!) So. Sega didn't appreciate to consumers.

And TF2 is online game. SLW isn't online game. Online game alwasy need some patch.

"Okay! It Floats, thats good enough for me.."

Well said Knuckles. SEGA is floating it's still there, whats the big deal. I don't want another 06 topic. All we're saying is that we may not be as interested in this as you because it's (SEGA) still floating. Knuckles pretty much sums up my thoughts on this matter. We know they went through/are going through hard times but they're still in the game so why look so deep into it.

Are you actually going to acknowledge people's complaints that you've been doing nothing but making completely arbitrary and irrelevant comparisons?

Seriously, I hate to sound rude, but all I've been hearing from you left and right is incomprehensible nonsense of "Sega Sammy" this and "Sega Sammy" that. I don't see the harm in doing a free DLC, and while I hate to have that kind of attitude, you're coming off as an extremely ungrateful person that's acting like you know exactly how to run Sega's business.

Oh. My opinion is Sega's not good marekting strategy can deal damage to Sega Sammy's casino. SLW Free DLC isn't make ANY money, improve Sega Sammy's company image and Sonic franchise image.(many users(not Sonic fans) think Sonic is Mario's slave

And Casino and resort is REALLY LAST HOPE. Pachinko market has dropped since 2009, Amusement business is sluggish now , and Sega's development ability and marketing ability is falling.

And they acquire Phoenix seagaia resort because of Casino. They invest 1billion (over 60% of their cash and deposit)dollars to incheon and busan casino
