Wii U discussion and upcoming news

The music in the ending and credits of SM64 is off-sync. For starters, the first piece of music only barely finishes when Mario spins and says "Here we go!" and the credits music doesn't get to finish before Mario thanks the player. Guessing it's due to the lack of lag that was in the original. Anybody here know if the Wii VC version had the correct timing?

It ran fine for me. Though I've heard stories of DK64 being out if sync due to the game running faster than it did on the original hardware.

Say, I'm seriously hoping that we get Mystical Ninja Starring Goeman (and the sequel Goeman's Adventure I think?) on Wii-u N64 VC, since the original SNES game is already on the VC, and all the emulation thresholds seem like they may have been overcome unlike wii VC. With the original game already on, doesn't look like there would be any rights complaints from Konami either(unlike Bomberman since they like to keep Hudson IPs in the basement :( )

Got to play some of both back in the day on the actual N64, never got to play it all and picking up an actual copy would be a pain, and having it on the wii-u would be great. Would love to finally get to play both through completion... wish there was a way to communicate this to NOA and/or Konami

Well, here's something handy someone over on GAF made, a NA region possibility list with problems/reasoning(at the least Nintendo has ironed out emulation issues this time around)

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=159476437&postcount=962

So, out of curiosity and because such lists existed for other systems on the virtual console, I went and made a list (it's not a big one) of N64 games released in the US by publishers/rights holders that are also putting games on the VC (those being Nintendo, Capcom, Konami, Namco, and Koei). Obviously not every game in this list is going to make it because the trickle, the Wii VC being almost entirely first party games, and general industry politics, but here's what we could possibly expect.

Bolded games are games that should have no issue

Italicized are games that may have issues but could possibly happen to varying degrees of possibility

Games not bolded or italicized are games that won't happen or have been confirmed to not be happening.

Already Released/Confirmed for release

Other things to note:

-Nintendo previously worked out a deal with Midway to put Crusin' USA on the Wii Virtual console. Midway has since collapsed, so who knows what's up with that license. I'm leaving it off the list for now.

-Quest 64 was published by THQ in the US but Konami in Europe. As THQ is now dead and its licenses scattered into the wind, I suppose it's possible that Konami (or another related party) could work towards getting the game on the VC. It's super unlikely though, especially given the game's sort of unfair reputation.

-On a related note, many of the N64's more prolific third parties (namely THQ, 3DO, Acclaim, Crave, Midway, and Titus) have since gone under. While the vast majority of those games were licensed and wouldn't happen anyway (sorry fellow WCWvsNWO/WM2000/No Mercy fans), it's not entirely impossible for some of the non-licensed games to happen in a scenario similar to Tecnos's library where somebody picks them up specifically to rerelease them. That said, I'm not including any of those games on the list, because it's a suuuuuuuuuuper longshot that will almost certainly not happen.

-I didn't include Conker's Bad Furday and Perfect Dark since Rare nominally self published those (albeit with support from Nintendo) and they'll certainly hit the same issues that Banjo Kazooie/Tooie and Killer Instinct Gold will hit.

-As noted, Majora's Mask is unlikely any time soon because it was just remade and released on the 3DS. Star Fox 64 and Ocarina of Time also have 3DS versions, but those are old enough to where they'll probably pop up sooner. As it stands, the DS port of Kirby Super Star did not prevent the SNES version from getting released on the VC a couple years later.

-Interplay will probably promise Clayfighter 63 1/4/Sculpter's Cut, but don't believe their lies

I bought Winback on PSN on my PS3,  if they released on VC i could be happy to play the original game with a Controller Pro Wii U,

Also why aren't they putting SM64 or Mario sunshine and Galaxy games for the 30th anniversary, i could buy this up with all star in too.

I really wish they'd up the number of coins you can earn per day and/or the total number you can carry.  All the Mii Plaza things rely on Streetpass or hiring mercenaries/investigators /gardeners often at 3 or more coins per person, and you tend to need a lot of them.  Tagging a person every few months really doesn't do much good when you need at least three or four cannons to get past the enemy fighters, or tagging a single red shirt (flame attack) when you're traversing a water world.  Using the hobbies instead of the shirt colors is a nice change, though.

Honestly, this could go into the 3DS and/or the Splatoon thread as well, but figured I might as post it here, SSMBUK, Nintendo has a new UK PR agency, they've hired some group called Pretty Green

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/nintendo-names-prettygreen-as-its-new-uk-pr-agency/0148176

Nintendo names PrettyGreen as its new UK PR agency

Brand communications agency PrettyGreen is the new retained PR agency of Nintendo UK.

The company will be in charge of integrated campaign support and Nintendo’s press office. The first title it will be involved with is May’s Wii U shooter Splatoon.

Its other clients include Nando’s, Virgin media and John Lewis.

“We're excited to be welcoming the PrettyGreen team into the Nintendo family,” Nintendo’s head of communications Jo Bartlett said. “They've shown themselves to be creative and strategic in their thinking and we're looking forward to working with them to deliver some fantastic campaigns for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in the months to come.”

PrettyGreen founder Mark Stringer added: “As an Agency we have a reputation for helping brands define and redefine creative culture and Nintendo is one of the most iconic brands out there; few can lay claim to having played such a consistent role in providing worldwide family entertainment for so long! It’s great to be embarking on a new journey with the Nintendo Team at such an exciting time for the brand.”

The account was previously held by 77PR - the consumer arm of Fishburn. Fishburn will continue to handle European and corporate communications.

So they are handling Splatoon promotion in UK

Somehow I don't think this means that Nintendo will be getting on the epic British Christmas advert tradition. (Monty the Penguin was overrated anyway)

Cool stuff though.

Considering John Lewis and Virgin Media ads are fucking everywhere in the UK, this can only mean good things for Nintendo. About time they looked into improving their marketing.

Apparently, we're not getting any more SNES games on Virtual Console.

Well, this is rather disappointing. I can only hope that this mean that they'll actually double down on the N64 and GBA VC titles now.

Wii U's virtual console was never really anything more than a holdover for the release drought it had. Now that Smash Bros and MArio KArt 8 are out I doubt it will be extremely missed.

Odd how it's only SNES that aren't being released on VC anymore, but it should hopefully mean we'll get more N64, GBA and Wii ones.

Honestly, its just a phase, we don't know how many they actually converted already, also things go in and out, but ya hopefully this means more N64 ports!

Goddamn it I wanted them to put out Chrono Trigger.

Wii U VC so far has been laaaame. Hope they step it up. I only have 3 games for it so far while on the Wii I had dozens.

Eh, I never really bothered with VC when I've already got games or superior versions/emulators. Its rare that VC is worth the money.
