30 Days of Video Games - BONUS: Why Do You Play Games Pg. 142

Bonus Day: Why Do You Play Games?

Hey, we're already on the last day. That was fun. Anyway, my answer depends on the game. Some I play for simple, addicting fun, while some I play to feel awesome. Sometimes I play for the story, the graphics, or the music. Sometimes I do some self-imposed challenges, or maybe I'll just mess around and do whatever I feel like doing, no matter how stupid. Maybe I'll want to relive some pleasant memories. I could just sit back in my biggest chair, get comfy, and play a slow, relaxing game, while sometimes I need something that gets me hyped, and my blood pumping.

I don't have just one reason. If I only had one, I don't think I would like Video Games as a medium very much at all.

Bonus Day: Why Do I Play VIdya James?

Yeah I know, I really didn't get any time to participate at all in this 30 days, wish i could've had enough time to. :C Though I hope to catch up on some personal favorites I wanted to write about later in the day. cause it's like 2am as i type this and i need my sleep aha. Nonetheless, I always love hearing others thoughts on gaming, and it was great to read  what everyone had to say in here

Why do i vidya gaem? Why do you vidya?  Why do all of us? Fun? Immersion? It's really unexplainable honestly. I want to say it's all of those factors, and more. Just ever since I was a kid, the idea of video games, it's just clicked with me. Getting to journey to far off lands and adventures that awaited me is something magical. Many such adventures, where you could be;
-A red plumber who jumps on stuff
-Blue hedgehog who has gotta go fast.
-Pink..........sphere thing who eats stuff
-Young elfish boy trying to save the princess and Hyrule.
-A lone bounty hunter exploring the darkest depths of an alien planet.

-Being imprisoned by a sociopathic and snarky AI in a facility where you perform insane tests with a gun that shoots holes.
-Socializing and bonding with friends during the day to level up your monsters that you summon from shooting yourself in the head to go fight some other bad monsters at midnight.
-Middle aged man and a young girl wander a ruined North America and grow emotionally while dealing with the collapsed society that exists around them also there are zombie things
-A quiet bespectacled theoretical physicist who smacks some alien booty around with a crowbar and gravity gun.

And that's only just scratching the surface.  Video games offer a multitude of different experiences with vastly unique premises, gameplay, characters, etc. you name it. Anything you want to be, games offer it. To me, that's the best thing a great game can offer.

Bonus Day: Why do you play Video Games?

Why do I play video games? Well, that's simple... to have fun. I play them, because they're the main thing that always keep me from getting bored because of their enjoyable replaying factor. Doesn't matter what kind of game it is, as long as they keep me entertained and having fun. They can also increase your awareness and reflexes and when your playing a puzzle game, it helps test your intellect or a strategy game that can also test you tactics or an action platform game that can challenge your skills. Games have been apart of my life and will continue to play video games.

I play video games because they are a wonderful experience. They are a medium where you feel like you can LIVE a tale, a story, an experience. It fascinates me because this kind of medium would sound like something out of science fiction 50-70 years ago and now it's a common thing in every household. Playing through a really good game leaves you with a feeling of satisfaction like no other, like you were fulfilled by the experience. Of course on a less pretentious level I play them because they're fun, the kind of fun you cant really get anywhere else and that's why they're so special to me, ever since I was a kid ive always been enthralled by gaming at large, and thankfully I dont ever see myself growing out of it.

BONUS DAY - Why Do I Play Games?

perfect_dark_multiplayer.jpg

To play with my friends of course!

Whenever I look at a game, the first thing I used to look for on the box was split-screen multiplayer. While online multiplayer is sort of a replacement nowadays, I still would much rather enjoy a good deathmatch with friends in the actual room with me. Just 2-4 good friends together fragging each other all night with Pizza and Soda on a Friday/Saturday night after a long week of school/work; true bliss. <3

My other reason however?

cb4b963754c85188c27a129b4f53758e.jpg

To experience something I can't get out of a movie/anime or any other kind of media. Whether if it's the intricate and unconventional story telling of games like Ghost Trick, The Stanley Parable and Suda51's works altogether, or the satisfaction of getting First Place on Master Rank in F-Zero GX and speed running through the streets of San Francisco as Sonic the Hedgehog. All of these are exhilarating in their own way to me. This is truly why I play video games.

Escapism and relaxation I suppose. I usually want to play games in which I can lose myself and forget about everything else for a while. Also, because I'm very easily stressed these days, I've cut back considerably on games that have the tendency to stress me out. So I need a game that's either heavy on the atmosphere and story but has easy difficulty such as Journey and BioShock 1 and 2 or a traditionally structured video game like Mario or Kirby that provides a decent level of challenge but isn't too hard as to let my frustration get in the way of me having fun. It's for those reasons I consider myself an extremely casual gamer these days; once upon a time I had the patience and willpower to plow through daunting games such as Super Meat Boy or complex RPGs such as Disgaea, but I don't think I have the conviction for something that's too arduous and time consuming like most people do.

Bonus Day: Why do I play games?

I'm a man of systems. I like seeing how things interact, interplay and interlock. But many things in life are not governed by a good system or anything at all. In other words, the universe has no responsibility to make itself intuitive to us. But games. Those are systems that make sense. Every game I play gives me a new perspective on reality, whether it's something from spatial orientation, adaptability, logical reasoning or pattern recognition. I love to see a thought through to its conclusion, and I think that's a personality trait that games have given me.

Why do I play games?

Challenge - I am a HUGELY competitive person when it comes to games, guys and gals who's played online with me on say MK8 recently will see how much I like to put the strain on people when playing, I'm definitely no push over especially with MK because I love the franchise, even if it's one of the most enraging experiences I've ever had. But with other games it's the same, these developers offer us the chance to beat a product that THEY have created and they class as "Hard or very hard" and it's human nature to want to win and prove someone wrong about their level of what they class as difficult. I like stuff that makes me think of my approach on how I'll do things in the game, like how to approach this boss etc.

Escapism - Without games I honestly might not be here today, as emo and as pathetic as that sounds it's true during my childhood years I've put up with a lot of shit and video games has helped me blur my initial suicidal thoughts from the start by finding fictional characters that I could relate to. Samus is definitely one person I can relate to, strong, bold and courageous she was incredible and I aspired to be as strong as the girl who lost everything and avenged everyone. Sonic is another, his cool attitude kept me in high spirits and out of the gutter with his charming friends.

Inspiration - As an Artist inspiration comes rarely for me but without games I wouldn't be as creative as I've been known for, they help me pick out new ideas for OC's, new things to incorporate and warp into my own stories, physical differences that make my existing ideas better.

Experience - Games aren't just "games" or "time wasters" they're ART, it's an ART motion to experience a game, it's a virtual reality. A playground for you to let loose in. Want to become a super hero? No problem! Have Spider-man or Batman! Want a realistic racing simulator? Holy shit! Here's Gran Turismo 6 and Forza 4! Too realistic? Let me introduce Burnout Paradise! You want to immerse yourself into a brightly coloured world where everything is unique and crazy? Hello Mario Galaxy, Sonic Unleashed! You want to ninja run through bullets, fight mecha and an evil senate made of nanomachines? Son! Metal Gear Rising is for you! There are so many games to appeal to the masses, so many games to offer you and experience that mere books and television cannot offer you at all.

Fun & Identity - Of course a game has got to be fun otherwise why play it? Whether it's by yourself or with friends of yours, or hell people from around the GLOBE, gaming brings us all together. Without games, we all wouldn't have met if you think about it, it's a Sonic forum, which is a gaming series, can you imagine if we hadn't of met? How weird would it all be? Some of you guys are literally my life and have helped me out of dark places by just being there to listen or to talk to, as I'm sure I've done the same for you too.

Finally want to thank Discoid for you know, putting up with my stupid problems and shitty month and letting me post when I was ready, it's the least I could do, and Kiah for hosting yet another event, straight after the Sonic one no less! She's a real trooper and I hope it hasn't been too much of a strain!

Day +: Why do you play video games?

Oh, this one's easy. Fun, yes, that's a factor. Immersion into the art, story, and world, definitely. But I think the root of why I play is in the real world want that I can never satisfy: exploring.

All my life, the world has been dangled in front of my face as an unreachable jungle of new places and experiences I've never had. If I wanted to explore my backyard some more, it would be considered trespassing. If I strayed from the group to see a sight that they rushed by, we'd be separated and I would make them worry sick. And if I dared to explore a relative's neighborhood, I'd get hopelessly lost.

This never applies to video games, however. I can roam a planet-sized arena of exploration goodness and not have any repercussions that the real world would have. I can jump off planes, I can spelunk through a volcano, I can zip through a jungle, I can swing through a city; I. Can. Do. Anything. Because of this, open-world is usually my favorite genre, due to the huge amount of locations, nooks and crannies, and other exploration value they may have.

The escape from responsibilities may be nice, the story might be entertaining, and the art style is usually intriguing, but those kinds of things can be found in nearly any form of media. What other media can't reproduce, however, is the control. In a video game, you are the one who challenges the world for his objective. You are the one who overcomes the hurtles of the environment to achieve his goal. You are the chicken... who crossed the road.

And that is why I play video games. To be... the chicken.

... Wait, that came out wrong.

Bonus Day - Why Do I Play Video Games?

They are stories that immerse you further than other forms of entertainment with due to the level of interactivity in comparison to other said forms of entertainment. The deeper level of immersion that is possible, means that you are immersed to the point where you delve into another world so to speak, you become invested in the characters and their worlds and you feel like a part of it. as others have said, this facilitates escapism, you forget about any stresses or problems or even just the mundaneness of the day to day grind - and you drift into an alternate place - and you can choose the place and choose who/what you become for that couple of hours or so.

Really there is nothing quite like it. The above things, help you to unwind , relax and have loads of fun. If you are playing multiplayer stuff, they facilitate socialising and bonding, through friendly competition/teamwork and, and multiple individuals can become immersed and escape into a place of their choice, each choosing who/what they become and what they will be doing within this place.

As much as the games often have set stories you nowadays also have some degree of control over shaping them - this makes you feel even more a part of it.

Day Numbero Bonus: Triple Trouble: Ninja's "Beat Kami at posting about Video Games for 30 days" Reason to play Video Games Ever!

so why do I play Video games.....

......because they're fun and I just so happen to feel like enjoying Fun things.

but if you want the fancy answer, let me take a couple steps back then

I mentioned last time, this was one of my first expiriences as far as Video Games go, and I am also pretty sure it was the First Video game I ever got to see and later play myself.

I was fascinated by it, the Little characters Jumping around, the Music, the enviroments, the little enemies you encountered, it felt kinda Magical.

Since then, Video games have given me alot, they let me meet Awesome Characters, they let me meet Awesomely Despicable Characters, they made me laugh, they made me Cry, they made Me wanna strangle someone out of Rage, they made Me wanna celebrate my newest Victory, they allowed me to fight Giant Monsters, Half Demons, Giant Turtles, Evil Scientists, Politicians.

They let me go Guns Blazing through Hordes of enemies, or let me Sneka past the same enemies without them ever knowing I was there, They let me go throw Turtles into a Fiery Pit in one game and then let me Race aganst them in the next Game, they let me expirience the Beauty that is Okami, the Awesomeness that is Devil May Cry, or the Timeless Classic that is Mario.

Video Games played a huge part of my life, wether it was to quickly waste time or expirencing something grand in the end, to me, Video Games are Art and even if they werent I would still play them anyway.

and thats why I play Video Games, now eat shit Bitches, Sonic is the worst ever

Bonus Day - Why Do You Play Video Games?

The most general and pretentious answer for me would be: because they're art! And I love art! You can look at a painting, read a book, watch a movie, listen to music - playing a game just happens to be my favorite way to experience artwork. They meld together visual aspects, animation, narrative, music, then toss in interactivity, and for me that's most enjoyable way to do things. They create these living, breathing worlds, which any other medium can do, but you get to be an active part of it! Look at a game like BioShock; if it were a movie would the twist really have had the same effect without you controlling Jack? Bastion's world could have looked beautiful if it never went further than a painting, but seeing it alive and moving makes it that much cooler. Super Mario Galaxy's soundtrack could totally stand on its own, yet it's that much better to hear alongside the game's visuals as you explore its worlds. It's combining all these art forms in a way that makes them compliment each other so well that makes me love video games so much.

And besides... they're fun! And fun things are fun!

Escapism primarily.

To do the impossible and achieve the unachievable. To put myself in someone else's shoes and become something different.

To have some fucking fun and immerse myself in a completely untapped art form.

Day 31: Why do you play games?

Many reasons are given as for why I love to play video games. First off, video games are extraordinarily fun to play with, as they always give me hours of entertainment no matter what type of game is. While I have been playing solo most of the time, I always seek to play with friends and other people whether it's locally or online to further expand the experience and the fun factor.

Immersion is another factor to attribute my time playing video games; much like other forms of entertainment, video games can offer you a sense of immersion but with the advantage that your input and interaction plays a big role. Escapism is another reason alongside the immersion; going into different worlds and exploring 'em while taking part of the role of different heroes on their quests.

I could say challenge is another reason I keep in mind while playing games. I like it when games offer a real sense of challenge and difficulty and many games from past generations to even current ones have given me a good share of challenge to enjoy. Yet not everything I play are for the sake of challenge: I can relax myself with other types of games that don't need to be challenging per se.

BONUS DAY - Why Do You Play Games?

Like nearly everyone else has said, they're fun. Fun things are good. They give you a chance to meet great characters and amazing settings that you wouldn't otherwise get to see in real life. Ever wanted to see what it'd be like to be a blue collar worker who has to beat up reptiles and mushrooms to save a member of royalty? Or have you ever thought about what it'd be like to see a bunch of animals pilot a space ship to go and shoot up a giant monkey head? What about a cyborg ninja out for revengeance against a war crime organisation lead by a senator made of nanomachines? Chances are you haven't ever thought of these things but there are games with all sorts of strange and fun scenarios like this. They give you worlds where your only worries are things as simple as the RNG co-operating or hoping you made a right guess. But what I think a large part of why I prefer it to other forms of media is the interactivity and the possibilities that brings. It allows countless different amounts of different types of games to appear, both as far as genres go and within each genre. You can take a countless number of approaches to the gameplay, and your experience with the game could be completely different to someone else's because of how you approached it. The developers can also throw in all kinds of different things into the gameplay that can make a particular game worth sinking loads of time into, that can make a single player experience or a competetive game truly stand out. They've become a big part of my life for all of these reasons and probably more that I can't think of right now, and that won't change for what I hope to be a very long time.

Day 31/30: BONUS: Why Do You Play Games?

"Hey, I'll play with you some other time!"

~Sonic the Hedgehog

Why indeed. Not exactly the sort of answer I could easily put into words, but I will try to the best of my ability.

Why do I play video games? Why do I spend hours on end in these handcrafted virtual worlds when that time could be better utilized elsewhere, spend money on interactive software when I can limit my funds to essentials like food, invest my attention and energy into characters that can only exist on-screen rather than real life?

Sounds pretty depressing I know, but it'll get better, I swear! On with the answer.

Video games, for one... are a form of escape to me.

I mean, let's face it: reality can downright suck at times. A bad day at work, an argument between friends and/or family, not enough money in the bank, too much stress to deal with as it is; there's a lot out there that can really blow the wind out of your sails. I'm not without most of these elements pervading my life at any given time, and, like many, there are some days where you just don't want to be you because . Gaming, however, allows me to fully immerse myself into someone else's shoes, and experience entirely different worlds where none of the previously mentioned problems can reach me. Hell, games as a medium can achieve this to a level that not even movies or books could reach, since it's not something you are limited to sight alone: it's something you can take control of and make all sorts of things happen yourself. In one sitting, I could be Sonic, running free at unfathomable speeds while taking down a megalomanic Eggman and his robot army, through environments that can range anywhere between blue skies and luxuriant green hills, and power plants with steel clouds floating in the air. In another, I could be Link, Hero of Hyrule, hacking and slashing with expert swordsmanship, and exploring all sorts of abandoned dungeons and temples with monsters crawling up from the woodwork. I could be Pit, a bright-eyed jack of all trades with all sorts of weaponry at my disposal, while putting up with deities that I either serve, like Lady Palutena, or fight against, like Medusa. It's amazing.

Second reason? Games are fun.

Like I've previously said, you can invest yourself into a wide variety of different universes, and you can do all sorts of things that simply aren't possible in real life. Another factor is how wonderfully woven the package is put together: the controls, the visuals, the sound, and the gameplay can be so pristine and perfect and downright fucking awful in some cases I mean why does X game even exist. Isn't it fun to raise Pokémon, with that sense of pride welling up from within whenever one of your own levels up, learns a move you were long anticipating, or even evolve? Doesn't it feel great to roll around at the speed of sound with such a wonderful soundtrack accompanying you? Isn't taking down a boss such an empowering feeling, by either dealing the final blow or watching it fall to the lava below? Aren't you satisfied with taking down a given baddie and using their abilities for yourself? Wouldn't anyone feel accomplished once they see the credits roll, knowing that they completed a long and arduous journey? It's all, well, fun!

Third... It's the challenge.

I see all these times and scores and ranks that I've reached, but just by looking at the screen, knowing I can do better... I just want to throw myself back into the fray and give it my 100% in order to reach that 100%. I know that I can unlock A reward by doing B, and that unlock is right within arms' reach, right? Time to get that S Rank, gotta go reach that 100000 point total, must get to the finish within a minute, have to collect all the collectables. It's another empowering feeling to know that, by pushing onward, by getting better at the game, I can play as X character, unlock Y ability, play in Z stage, obtain a new game mode, or what have you. I get to play more of the game that way!

Fourth and final reason: it's an art form on its own.

Interactive art, at that. I can experience, for myself, the fruits of the developer's labour, hear the music that compliments every given area or situation or person, look at how an entire world that a group of people have so painstakingly created was crafted for me to enjoy through its colours, its style, its arrangement and what have you, all at the same time.

And these, ladies and gents of the Sonic Stadium Message Board, are my 30 Days of Video Games. Thank you, Discoid, for bringing this back! It's been fun, sharing more of my gaming experience, stories and anecdotes with all of you, while reading up on and enjoying the forum's own insights.

With that, I bid you all farewell, and I hope to see you all again in a future 30 Days! now to get active again onto the rest of the forum

New update -

I've talked to Kiah about it and we've come to an agreement: participating in all 30 days as well as the bonus day will net you two badges. Both the red and blue Dreamcast ones. Hope you like them. :)

EDIT - To clarify, participating only in the bonus day won't get you anything. It's an extra bonus for the people who were here from the beginning (or made up what they missed).

Noice. So that's two new badges! Thanks Discoid and Kiah. I enjoyed this very much. Twas great reading everyone's own opinions on gaming. ^^

Oh thank god, the Orange logo annoys me so much that I imported a broken PAL Dreamcast and swapped shells.

Lol, totally agree with you. XD Blue Dreamcast swirl ftfw!

Day 30: Favorite Ending:

Now, that's easy:

Scott+se+dando+bem.jpg

Scott's ending, because you can date three girl at the same time that are apparently ok with that! What could possibly be better than this?

Nah, I'm just messing laugh.pnglaugh.png

---

My favorite, and it's kind hard to say that, because it's a very sad one TBH, is the ending of Read Dead Redemption:

john-marston-s-death-o.gif

As sad as it was, it's the most well writen ending I remember for a videogame. Like I described in the Most Depressing Moment Day, the last missions that leads to this unavoidable end, makes you feel connected to John, and truly believe that his days of killing and robbing will stay in the past.

Other great endings I remember:

Shadow of the Colossus

Uncharted 2

Sonic 2

Bonus Day!

Why do I play games? Like many of you already answered: for fun and time-killing. I enjoying mostly simpler games, the ones that you boot and play without stress, just to have a good time. Not for the graphics or story, sure, these are important, but above all things, the fun/entertaining factor.

Time to make up a couple days!

Day 3: Favorite Cover Art

Hmmm, I never really thought about this, but I'd probably go with...

SonicGenerations.jpg

I know it's a newer game, but still, I really find it charming, despite it's simplicity. There's something about seeing Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic side by side like this that really makes me excited to get the game out and play it. It's also visually pleasing with the Logo, Background and borders. Definitely probably one of my favorite game box art. It gets the theme of the game out and doesn't cluster up the cover.

Runner up would be Halo 4, just because it looks epic lol.

DAY 8: Favorite Ability

12.png

(FLOWMOTION)

This seriously is one of my favorite abilities in the entire Kingdom Hearts series. It's so fun to use. Bouncing off walls, pullin off all these Parkour like tricks, it is amazing. And on top of that, you can pull of attacks that devastate opponents. My only wish was that it not be so overpowered. You can obliterate multiple enemies with a ground pound Flowmotion attack. And it can make bosses feel underwhelming. But still, I love it and am excited to see how it is implemented into KH3.

DAY 10- MOST IMMERSIVE GAME

scene.jpg

(THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: MAJORA'S MASK)

Majora's Mask is amazing. It takes everything from Ocarina of Time and improves on it. One of those things would be the world around link. This game is sited as a example of art in video games by many. And for good reason. The world of Termina literally feels alive. You don't just go through the game emotionless. I found myself caring about almost every Citizen of Clock Town. I still do whenever I care about the game. Outside of Termina, you have the Zora's, Gorons, Deku's, etc. Everyone has a personality, a life. And there is some real emotion put into them. The baby Goran's dad dying, the Zora dying in front of Link, the Anju and Kafei, the moon potentially killing everyone( even worse for those depressed people that haven't had their issues resolved), the list goes on. Heck, even Skull Kid himself has a story. It pushes the player to go and try helping EVERYONE. They really went out of their way to give every individual a thought out story. And that was a great accomplishment. Especially for a N64 game. I applaud Nintendo.

DAY 17- BEST COMBAT

Hmm....Again, I'm gonna have to use Kingdom Hearts 3D.

kingdom_hearts_3d_dream_drop_distance_wa

Arguably, Kingdom Hearts 3D probably has the best combat in the entire series. Now that doesn't mean most enjoyable(I personally like 2 the most), but 3D is very satisfying as well. I already talked about Flowmotion, but the command style is very accessible this time as well when compared to previous attempts from Birth by Sleep and Re:Coded. There is much customization, and that's a great thing for a game series like this. Only complaints would be Dream Eaters replacing party members, and how OP Flowmotion is. But overall, it is a blast to play.

And last

DAY 29- FAVORITE CAST

super_smash_bros_wii_u_3ds_cover_by_supe

(Get outta here Krystal!)

Can I please say Super Smash for this? Honestly, the Nintendo (and 3rd parties that are there) when they come together, create a charming and memorable cast. Whether Lucario finds Snake Hiding in a Box or everyone works together to stop the Ganon and Bowser, Or Sonic appearing to save Nintendo, I just love the character interaction with eachother. Heck, even the CGI Trailers for Smash 4 make up for there not, supposedly, being a story!

I seriously love it. It's not just a "fighter with random people from different games fighting" and that's it now. They have personalities and charm given to each of them. Even In game in Smash 4 they seem much more lively compared to past games.

Day 11-Most Frustrating Moment

Fucking Sephiroth from Kingdom Hearts 2 comes to mind first and foremost. Hell, any secret boss from that series. They're the ultimate test of skill, and as a result it mostly just leads to you getting your ass kicked by their attacks. A lot. Sephiroth in particular always has a few cheap tricks up his sleeve to make you suffer even more.

Day 12-Fondest Next Gen Experience

ssbb021.jpg

Super Smash Bros Brawl's announcent was what got me on board with the Wii. Seeing all these characters I was already familiar with in Melee given an "edgy" look pretty much blew me away. Everything I saw and heard about Brawl up until release felt like a significant step up.

Day 16-Most Tragic/Saddest Moment

Emmeryn_Cutscene_Artwork.png

Emmeryn's death in Fire Emblem Awakening definitely caught me off guard. The game immediately throws you into a hopeless situation and makes you think you can control the outcome, but ultimately Emmeryn doesn't make it out alive no matter what you do. Not only was her death inevitable, but it also puts even a lot of the enemy's own troops off the cause.

Day 21-Most Memorable Unlockable

tumblr_mw7x1dZFdk1s7s42bo1_500.png

I knew about Rosalina's presence in Super Mario 3D World before the game was even release due to hints dropped in promotional art and outright confirmation by Reggie himself. It only made me more excited for the game. Rosalina brings several references and abilities from my all time favorite Mario game, Super Mario Galaxy with her. She's a bit slow, but she's a joy to play as due to her spin attack, which decimates any enemy in your way.

Day 22-Favorite Art Style

rayman-origins-textscreenLG2.jpg

Rayman Origins's artstyle is extremely unique, striking, looks damn good in motion, and is overall just hilarious. There's an insane attention to detail, from the lovingly animated sprites to the handdrawn backgrounds. In motion it almost looks like a cartoon. Legends has a similar artstyle, and overall it has more details to it but I feel like some of the original charm was lost. Origins is still the king to me.

Day 26-Favorite Console Generation

Nintendo_Game_Cube1.jpg

6th Gen is pretty much the high point of gaming for me. All the competitors had their own unique, but solid controllers. There was overall a lot more focus on having the greatest games and a lot less focus on bullshit, which lead to an extremely great library on all consoles. No motion controls. No DLC bullshit. No online passes.  It was just a good time to be a gamer.

Day 27-Favorite Developer

Retro-Studios-Logo.jpg

Retro studios doesn't exactly have the biggest of resumes under their belt. Their work includes the 3 Metroid Prime games, the 2 new Donkey Kong Country games, and some work on Mario Kart 7. Their games are always brimming with detail and polish that often exceeds Nintendo's other studios. They're also incredibly flexible, going from the dark, desolate first person shooter Metroid Prime to the lighthearted, fast paced hard as balls Platformer Donkey Kong Country with ease. Nobody can get me excited by just ANNOUNCING they're working on a new title like Retro.

Bonus Question: Why do you play? stole muh idea nerd

My reason for playing games is pretty shallow. They're just a nice distraction, and I always turn to them when I need something to do or just to keep my mind off of something. Games can be fun, engaging, emotional, epic, exhilarating pretty, adventurous and playing them just makes me feel good.
