Actually, I'll be interested to see how they change things around if they do.  I'd like to see what Power Rangers could be with better choreography, acting, special effects, etc.  It could potentially be a really good action movie if "silly, kiddy action movie" is your thing. XP - If not, though, my inner-child is still squeeing on the inside.  It can't be any worse than Michael Bay's Turtles, in any case.

The mis-information in this thread.

You guys should refer to the ranger wiki if you've lost track with this show, great and accurate source of MMPR & Sentai Ranger info:

Hmm, the backing track sounds like the megadeth version:

One of them is in porn, another is dead, and another has been to jail.

yea....

Interestingly enough, the guy who played the green ranger is now an MMA fighter. Perhaps they could bring him in to choreograph the fight scenes?

Honestly, the whole soundtrack should just consist of the Abaranger theme:

Time Force, SPD, RPM, and a few others are good examples of much better acting in PR. In fact, most of the Disney seasons had good acting because they started using established New Zealand talent instead of random auditions.

Well, if this really pushes through, it'll probably end up like Kamen Rider the First, which was a remake of the first ever Kamen Rider series. Here's a video below:

Apparently, the sequel Kamen Rider the Next bombed at Japanese box offices, while this one had a small window of success. ><

I can't say I expected this to ever actually happen. I figured Saban and Bandai made enough money every year with new iterations of the series that they'd never feel the need to make a big movie out of it, and if they did I would've maybe expected it to just be a cheapo cash grab based on the current TV version.

I watched plenty of MMPR as a tyke, but that got me more interested in the genre than it did in its own specific scenario and characters. I really don't care at all about bringing actors back (except Barbara Goodson as the voice of Rita; that'd be awesome) or specific details about the story; the most important thing is that they nail the tone and aesthetic. Make the story and characters as deep as you want, but keep it upbeat and fun and eye-bleedingly colourful at the surface level. Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers trying to be dark and edgy is just about the most embarrassing thing I can imagine.

Ummm...

...or stick with the original theme song that we all grew up with when it was on TV.

Because it's already alienated than it this...

Obviously the original ranger cast won't return and the actor who voiced Zordon died years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if Paul Schrier and Jason Narvy were brought back. I swear they were more popular than the actors who played the rangers. There are tons of videos on youtube where they attended conventions in recent years. They've both aged well.

Would also be nice if they brought back another comedy double act...

Sadly the guy who voiced Rito Revolto has also died.

I think the real question we should be asking is....will Bryan Cranston be returning?

Whaaaaaat? I loved MMPR as a kid. I had a toy of the black ranger (Zack, I think) and if you pushed the button he'd say "It's morphin' time!" and "Let's do this!". I loved that toy. Also, I had an uncle named Bill, but he died two weeks after I was born, so I always imagined he looked like Billy xD

But a new movie? I remember two already and one of them was in theaters. That one had Ooze as a villain and I remember thinking it was so cool when the Rangers had their flashlights and other stuff in their helmets. Haha. The other movie had most of the rangers turned into kids and they went around getting them back together and turning them back to adults. Or maybe they were looking for new PRs. It's been ages.

The show got less interesting to me after a while. Like around when it restarted with some red Ranger from the future or something. And later with Ninja Force. I remember the Yellow Ranger (Who was a dude) saying in the first episode, "Guys, I told you the Power Rangers are real!". And the green Ranger's dad was a hamster.. I thought the series ended, though? I thought that Red Ranger reunion was supposed to end the series?

Anyway, bring this back:

P.S. Someone mentioned Beetleborgs here. I loved that show, too. I remember looking through animal books to look for a beetle to base my own Beetleborg character off of.

I remember that movie too!  I think it was the one and only time you ever saw their Zords act individually rather than just immediately combining into the MegaZord.  Why did they even bother making them separate in the first place?

The series still goes on too this day. It is currently on its 21st season and will soon be on the 22nd and 23rd.

I can post all of the seasons if you'd like.

To go down the Power Ranger actor list;

Austin St. John (Red Ranger Jason)  - Available, wasn't actually in a porn

Walter Jones (Black Ranger Zack)  - Available

David Yost (Blue Ranger Billy)  - Quit because of harassment on his homosexuality, prolly not coming back

Thuy Trang (Yellow Ranger Trini)  - Killed in a car accident in 2001

Amy Johnson (Pink Ranger Kimberly)  - Available

Jason Frank (Green Ranger Thomas)  - Available

Steve Cardenas (Red Ranger Rocky)  - Available

Johnny Yong Bosch<3 (Black Ranger Adam)  - Available

Karan Ashley (Yellow Ranger Aisha) - Available

Catherine Sutherland (Pink Ranger Katherine) - I have no idea

So maybe we'll see some returning? Granted they're older but I'd love to see them.

I'd take the press release using the term "re-envision" as basically confirmation that this is going to be a reboot with a whole new cast. I expect any returning original cast members, if there are any, to get cameos or bit parts as different characters at most.

Johnny voicing somebody would be pretty cool, though. I wonder if he could do a decent Zordon?

It honestly feels weird that they're doing this to the extent of a blockbuster film but Super Sentai gets no such thing.

Really skeptical of this, but it might maybe be good. I would like it to be not gritty or grim like you'd expect from Hollywood, but I'd also kinda like a version of PR that isn't the campiest low-budget production on Earth either. :v

Casting older actors as teenagers is common practice, yeah, but there's still a limit. Some of the Mighty Morphin' cast were pushing it even when the show was airing.

Super Sentai was never going to get a movie on a Hollywood scale, but I'm not sure Power Rangers could sustain multiple cheap movies every year like Sentai has either. Win some, lose some.

I'm kind of curious to see how successful this movie will be in Japan, actually. Power Rangers must seem like the weirdest fuckin' thing to people there; I can't even imagine.

To be fair, some seasons in Japan blew some of the original Japanese versions out of the water, like Lost Galaxy versus Seijuu Sentai Gingaman.

Also, Super Sentai already has one to three movies out per series, especially for anniversaries or crossovers with Kamen Rider and Metal Heroes series like the one that just came out last year. Crossover movies between Sentai Series and weirdly enough, X Years After specials (like that of Kyoryuger) have been coming out too.

Know what I'd like to see? A Super Sentai manga.

From what I understand, it's at least decently known over there, as there have been Japanese dubs of several Power Rangers seasons (Some even featuring VO work from their Sentai counterparts like SPD) and in the Sentai parody series, Akibaranger, there are even a couple of PR references. One of which was a whole episode that led to these amusing costumes:

Are you fucking real? okay I need context behind that image.

It's from hikonin sentai akibaranger seasons 2. The powerful rangers in that episode are a parody of power rangers.

As for the context, while I'm not 100% on the exact details as I haven't seen the show, only heard a discussion/summary of it, I believe the titular unofficial Sentai team find the OFFICIAL Sentai teams being messed with in a number of ways, whether it's the Dairangers being reduced to a Chinese knock-off team or what you see above, the Zyurangers being transformed into the American "Powerful Rangers," complete with PR-style over-musclized art:

The only universe where those Halloween costumes make sense. XD
