Sonic and adventure 1 and 2 total remake?

Recommended Posts

I know we may have had Sonic Generations and Sonic adventure 1 and 2 hd, but what if sega did something more? franchises like fable and halo have been remaking their greatest games with great success, so WHAT IF sega remade Sonic adventure 1 and 2 on the hedgehog engine? (engine used since sonic unleashed)

The gameplay could still stay true to the adventure games while delivering improved voice overs and beutifully rendered levels, we could even see the return of Ryan Drummand or Jason Grithith to do the voices rather than the current cast because let's be honest, the voice acting in the adventure games was not exactly the BEST voice work in the series (although I understand if you liked it)

So what do you think? Could we potentially see sega pull off a "Sonic Aniversary" kind of game in the next few years? I know it's a long shot but it's just and idea I'd like some feedback on

You know, I always had this thought. Well, not just a "thought", more like a big pipe dream that will probably never, ever come true. If somehow I were ever able to helm a Sonic Adventure remake, I'd make Big's gameplay unironically the most awesome thing ever. Instead of fishing, he'd use the fishing rod to swing around on poles and parkour and stuff like that. I dunno, didn't really think it out, but I think it would simultaneously be a hilarious parody of the original game's completely left-field gameplay change while also being really cool and fun in its own right.

But anyway, proper SA1/2 remakes? I'd be down for that, definitely, but like Indigo said, now is probably not the best time. Besides that, I don't think I would want the Sonic Team proper to do this - no, no, hear me out. I think it would be best for Sonic Team to focus on pushing the franchise forward unless a golden opportunity for an SA1/2 remake really does arise. If this ever were to happen, honestly? I'd like for them to outsource to a different developer - please don't shoot yet. It would have to be people who are experienced with platformers and would know what they're doing, and hopefully, they'd be big fans of the series and want to do it justice. Apparently, Sanzaru Games is working on the 3DS version of Boom, so if that turns out well, who knows? They might have more involvement with the franchise in the future.

But of course, this is all hypothetical. I can't imagine this being realistically feasible for a long time. I can't say I wouldn't love to see these games remade and done justice, though. It would make me very, very happy.

I know this will probably never happen, but in my dream world this game remake combo exists. The originals are so unique I feel like recreating what has already been done won't be quite as good. (Like Adventure DX and Adventure 2: Battle)

Well who knows though...Maybe when I am 50 years old Sonic will still be going strong and these will come out. Maybe there will one day be a Sonic Adventure 3 as well. happy.png

Since the Miscellaneous Works and Sonic Showcase sections are intended for showing off members' own creativity and projects, I will go ahead and move this to a section more appropriate for the discussion. ^^

I'd be up for a total remake of the Adventures all the way up to ShTH (and I'm actually not joking about that either) if I were confident in the current Sonic Team pulling it off. As of right now, not so much - I'd rather an outside developer take hold of it.

Yeah sorry about that, I'm not very good at putting these things in the right places :''''D

This happens all the time, do not worry. Thanks for a good topic! -Diz

Sure. I'd love to see a remake. Though, I admit, I'd want them to ADD more content. More levels and stuff, but taking nothing away. Bigger levels, more to the story, etc.

Though, I'd fear people hating it for just being Sonic Adventure anything.

Gameplay styles, eh... I sdunno if it'd be best to change them up (Knuckles having a more Sonicish gameplay but he's finding emeralds by getting to a goal ring with a big Emerald sign on it) or keep it true to the original. I'd definitely make mech stages faster. Gamma is fine as is, in my opinion.

Also, I'd give SA2 a hub to make it more like SA1 in that regard, as well as let people choose their character.

Seriously, it annoys me to this day how I can't just play 1 character through story.

With this type of remake, I'd want to expand. Not take away, exactly, but make it bigger. Show more. Have the original + stuff.

That's me.

Now, will it happen? Nah. Not a chance. As of now, however, it's more important to build up the Sonic image.

Nice, liking where you're coming from there :D Honestly, I'd like to see improvements to the voice acting

Well, to expand yes. It would need new voice acting for more dialogue.

However, I'm personally quite happy with the cheesy, awkward voice acting it already has. lol Though, Humphrey is my favorite Shadow and probably always will be.

I WOULD like to see Pollock try for more Deem's Eggman. Lost World left me fairly impressed with a serious Eggman from Pollock.

Yeah, with Lost world they seem to be improving greatly with story, also I don't know if it's just me but I'd like to maybe see the 4kids cast do the voices because I honestly think they are the best cast so far

I've always dwelled over what a properly finished and fine tuned SA1 would be like, fine tuned graphics, lack of glitches, levels that aren't absurdly short and easy and Adventure hubs that weren't empty four or five step long segments, properly rounded stats and abilities for the characters. Updating the cutscenes to something like the cinematic level of Japanese Sonic X could really bring the story to life as well.

It always seemed the 3D game with the most deceptive amount of potential, and I found it a great shame it's 'Director's Cut' barely used any of it.

Concerning actual changes to the gameplay, I'd keep it minimal. I want a remake, not a completely different game. Maybe add some tune ups to the characters to make the experience more enjoyable (eg. Big and Amy can move faster, and Sonic, Gamma and Knuckles have odd attack upgrades from SA2 such as instant light speed) but keep the missions and setup the same (yes that includes fishing). The levels can have their spruce up so they aren't outdated, the core route should stay the same to some degree, but maybe lengthened or less empty (e.g. maybe update some areas to take advantage more of unique character abilities). Any new levels should probably be kept to what was originally in the works so it technically stays true to the original experience (eg. beta or conceptual levels that didn't make it into the final game), though adding some so each character's story lasts more than 3-5 levels would be beneficial.

I've wanted a remake of SA1 since about 2012 when I replayed the game and realized how terribly flawed it is from a modern perspective.  I mean, I still love the game, but if it weren't for the nostalgia attached to it, I probably would not be so forgiving of its technical problems as well story-related nuances.  So yeah, I'd be definitely be up for it, but I'll echo Indigo and say there needs to be a slightly larger time gap.  That, and I feel it shouldn't take priority over new and original titles.

I suppose I'm the most conservative here in my thinking regarding this.

The most radical change to the game's design I would propose are making Big, Gamma and Amy's stories optional and, of course, recreated cutscenes with new voice acting (not to mention a more advanced Chao Garden). Everything else from level design to movesets to object placement would be almost completely identical.

Sonic Adventure 2 even less so, since most of the game is very deliberate in its design and has aged far better in terms of controls and level design over its predecessor. Still could use better cutscenes, though. Badly, actually.

The one game I think that should be re-imagined or re-created from scratch would be Sonic Heroes, since that game's teamplay mechanics were pretty uninspiring and naff, and the story left a lot to be desired. Aside from that, though...

...man, now my brain's in overdrive trying to think of mechanics for remakes.

See what you mean, Shadow's return should have been more dramatic and had more impact, like in Sonic X

Just ditch alternate completion methods entirely, and make all of them regardless of character about making your way to a goal ring. Then throw away the ridiculous genre roulettes and make everyone more or less strictly platforming with a character specific gimmick or several. Those two things alone would basically fix more than half of the problems in both games, though I'm honestly skeptical anyone at Sega would go anywhere near that far - the best they'll do is slap a bunch of new textures in, up the native resolution and basically call it a day.

I would like to see this happen, but I would suggest the gameplay would need big alterations. Playing the PC port of Adventures 1 & 2, controlling Sonic feels very... clunky, surprisingly even moreso when playing with a controller attached instead of the keyboard. I only vaguely remember playing on the Gamecube, but I think that was still a problem then too.

It was acceptable for it's time, but the rather awkward controls I don't think would hold up much today, it needs major refinements. Though don't get me wrong, I think you could keep the base gameplay ideas intact, adding maybe a few popular adjustments like making Amy faster or Big's fishing segments shippable.

It would also make sense to add an expansion of content onto the game. With a little bit of creative writing you could even add other characters like Silver, Shadow or Blaze to the game.

I think adding Silver and Blaze would be going a bit to far, but it could work as a dlc, I can easily imagine Silver's gameplay being brilliant if given an overhaul and I also like his story in 06 so who knows?

This basically, the same gameplay, but those small but effective refinements. Bulking up Amy and Big's running pace to as much say, Knuckles or Gamma's building up speed wouldn't completely change the feel of their gameplay, but it would make it a bit less tedious.

New abilities I suppose could be workable under the idea they are unnecessary unlockables like some of the others, meaning purists have the choice of using them or keeping to the original set.

I'm mixed about characters however. I'd only really advise them in terms of skins or easter eggs that don't alter the core game or story in any way. Having stuff like Metal Sonic in DX to replay the stages in could be fun (surprised they didn't also put in Tikal or Chaos for a Knuckles skin).

The one thing I could see them being useful for however is perhaps as a second skin for a multi player mode. Those levels seemed ideal for racing in. Alternatively an E-Series 'last man down' multiplayer through the Adventure fields. Say you wouldn't want it. biggrin.png

In terms of small unintrusive level alteration, I think they should at least make the levels and fields stream properly rather than limiting them to segments that load separately. This could get especially tedious in the Adventure fields.

There needs to be a bigger timegap, especially since these games have been released within the past 5 years.

I agree with everything in your post except this last part, though I suppose by past 5 years you mean those so called "HD remakes" that SEGA released and not the release dates for the actual Dreamcast games because the time gap is huge to do a proper HD remake. Hell look at Wind Waker HD!

Personally, I'd love to see an HD remake and I've wanted to see one since those half arsed ports of SA1 and 2 were released a few years ago. Better graphics, better looking cutscenes, better Chao integration and voice acting by Roger and co would be the tits ('cuse me). Not to mention ironed out gameplay and both of these great but dated games would be even better! Thing is, I don't think SEGA or Sonic Team have the time to create a fully fledged HD port nor do I really err...trust them to make these ports anyway. It should go to a different developer at least, and that means a developer NOT named Dimps! XP

And who doesn't want to see a cutscene from SA1 animated like this?

Well of course I mean the re-releases.

Those games are still fresh in many gamer's memories. It's going to take a little while longer before most people are itching for a remake.

Concerning SA1 cutscenes, something like the fan recreation shown would be prefered. Maybe also refine some of the dialogue to be less corny. As said Japanese Sonic X takes a lot of the dialogue and fine tunes it into a more plausible script, combined with decent acting and animation that isn't just a handful of clunky gestures:

Only if the mech shooting and treasure hunting levels are removed from SA2.

Then it would actually be a good game.

Except no, that's part of the game.

But why just SA2 though, are the same shooting and treasure hunting stages from SA are magicaly fine for some reason?

Well i'd just like to see obvious imrpovements for the game, like stuff that really needs improvement, animation, voice acting, the glitches and stuff. I wouldn't like to see the levels changed much though but a few fixes on them are more than welcome (Sky Deck can still be bothersome to this day). Also speed up some characters a bit too and fix the radar in SA2 so you don't have to catch the emeralds shards in order, though it would be okay to leave it that way on hard mode or so as its might make it more chalenging or so.

An imroved chao garden is something i'd love to see really, its been too long since SA2 so id like to see how far they can now push it with virtual pets, something like nintendogs sort of thing but with chao would be nice, one can dream really.

I'm totaly down for remakes but as it has been said before.. needs a bigger time gap and a golden chance to arise for them to make that possible or ever bother with it, not to mention the sonic aventure series hate has yet to tone down since that and the HD remakes are quite recent. Assuming it will tone down one day that is.
