Welp at least it's not like the 2009 wipe. I am back to Cassidy it would seem, no arguments here. Prepare for trouble! Sorry to hear about that though, that really sucks. :\ Surprised y'all didn't use Challonge for the tournament brackets, would be pretty easy to look up results there.

Good luck with the IPB4 upgrade. Upgrading website software is a real pain haha.

With luck, nothing that requires any real period of downtime. There's a lot we can do without causing downtime, or limiting it to 15 seconds or so.

If I might explain the situation: Around the time the original failure happened, we were preparing to migrate everything to a new server. I was experimenting with the configuration of this new one when the failure occurred, and we essentially rushed the migration since the old server was now a blank slate. What that meant, however, was that a lot of the software was using default configuration, and some of the actions needed to resolve that were complex enough that it necessitated fairly long downtime. That's still the case now, but most of the important stuff is now configured.

So the site's already on a new server?

That's pretty good.

Here me out.

All this just takes a little gettin' used to. I have, but it took a while. I'm happy to see we're all in one piece after so long. Serious kudos to you guys that worked real hard to get this place up and running.

There are three things I'll come to miss though.

One: Being able to search things by content when I hovered over my profile.

Two: ...eh, two's not important.

...and Three: I'll miss the memories. Folks around here were pretty passionate and full of vigor in those missing months. Sure we can salvage a few great posts here and there...

...but visiting people's profiles and hittin' up someone's status from a few weeks ago, or checkin' a PM that touched your heart a couple of months back...

...those were the times.

- Zavok

I second third fourth twenty-fourth the idea of having a special badge to commemorate this victory. Or a special banner or something of the sort.

I lost 30 posts and 6 likes. I travelled back in time by half a year. How and why? 0_o

I suppose I'm late to the party, but welcome back SSMB! I think I lost a few likes but eh, no big deal. I'm just glad to see the forums are back up and running. :D

Serious Question: The 2009 wipeout?

(I'm so curious)

The forum had existed since about 2001-ish, but there were issues with the rent of some kind (I think they paid but the host never found out) & the place was deleted. So the whole thing had to be rebuilt.

That's pretty accurate. It was basically a comedy of errors:

* Two sets of subscriptions appear on Paypal; we delete the wrong one

* We pay, but the subscription isn't linked to our account so the host thinks we haven't

* They spend two months sending emails to an account we don't use

* They decide to delete everything

Only host I've ever used that didn't go the suspension route to let people know they hadn't paid. As it was they got hacked big time not long after, lost 100,000 VPSes (which likely would've included us) and went out of business, so the '09 crisis probably would've happened regardless of what we did.

So it was a crappy host then mostly?

That's some pretty abysmal customer service right there. =C - They deserve to go out of business with that kind of poor handling, especially if it's a paid host.

Hey! Favourably, I was able to know my previous password, as if I had forgotten it, then I wouldn't've even been able to reset it via email, as my old emails are deleted now.

As well, I was able to recover my contributions that I wanted to recover. Some tips that I have for yall that are looking to do that, are to search enquoted keywords with site:sonicstadium.org, and also to rely on not only Google but also Bing as it has its own unique cache, and there's always archive.org.

I know how hard it can be to suffer a data loss :\ I had one unforeseen heartbreaking one just recently at a site. In late 2012 I had one on one of my sites.

Are requests being taken for the recovery of article comments?

If so, I have two personal requests:

http://cc.bingj.com/cache.aspx?q=http%3a%2f%2fwww.sonicstadium.org%2f2014%2f12%2fsonic-sega-racing-and-sonic-racing-transformed-concepts-found%2f&d=4536470459908249&w=KPJ06_yjifAO8ozkBmdbdQX8q5Q23-fz for http://www.sonicstadium.org/2014/12/sonic-sega-racing-and-sonic-racing-transformed-concepts-found-3/

https://web.archive.org/web/20141106143250/http://www.sonicstadium.org/2014/08/luminous-costumes-for-us-amazon-boom-pre-orders/ for http://www.sonicstadium.org/2014/08/luminous-costumes-for-us-amazon-boom-pre-orders/

EDIT: The first URL is dead and archive.org doesn't have an equivalent that's as recent, so here's the comments HTML...

remember chatting up with S0L about it ages ago. They did wanted him to

from my understanding, it was a combination of having a more diverse

You’d think it would be a no-brainer. I loved the monster truck tires

These are all very interesting. I’m
always a sucker for concept arts. That’s why I love it when Platinum
Games include all their design works in their game like the Wonderful
101. You get to see all the hard work and incredible artworks that went
into the making of the game. It’s always weird seeing what could’ve
been, but honestly the final product stands out so well in comparison to
this. Well all except for Eggman’s vehicle. That does look sweet, but
I’m OK with what we got.

Truth be told, this is just making me want a 3rd racer. Seriously, the All Stars Racing games are some of the finest I’ve seen in kart racing, despite a lot of the technical issues that occurred in Transformed. I seriously hope this remains an ongoing series for just a little longer.

A couple of tips to get the best quality:
For the Alex Suermondt ones on Behance, change the “/disp/” or “/hd/” in the image URL to “/orig/”.
For the the Richard Tawn ones on Carbonmade, follow the pattern of
changing an image URL like “/16211788/735×520/resample(lanczos).jpeg” to

Sorry but this is unlikely to happen.

How so? is it just the factor that its too old or something else?

Only site admins can do it, Svend spent a whole weekend trying to recover everything that you see on there. Not all articles have been recovered and I doubt they ever will be. So comments would probably be a very low priority right now.

Hey, if anyone is wondering, certain pictures/elements that previously didn't appear in the Sonical themes due to the server wipe (Popular Star, Star rating on profiles, etc.) apparently is back up.
