Question #24: What was your most intense or nerve-wracking IN-GAME moment(s)?

Well, I was gonna mention Death Egg Robot but you already mentioned it Crusher. So I'll go with:

''Fuck this stage. Fuck This Stage. Fuck this stage.'' - 75% of Sonic fans

Labyrinth Zone, and the water levels in Sonic games in general are so fucking nerve wrecking to go through, and it's all because of one thing. Just one fucking thing. This.

It's bad enough that Sonic is stiff, slow, and awkward as fuck to control in these underwater stages, but there's a time limit on air, where if you don't get enough air in time, the game will begin playing this little soundtrack that very quickly increases and increases and increases, as a 5 second timer counts down, and you tell the bubbles to hurry the fuck up and give an air bubble, only to get it on the very last possible second, is just absolutely nerve wrecking, and one of the biggest reasons I despise Labyrinth Zone to this day. Then there's the times where the air bubbles decide to be assholes, and wait until Sonic dies, and then pop out an air bubble as the screen fades.

Question #24: What was your most intense or nerve-wracking IN-GAME moment(s)?

The last boss in Sonic's story in  Sonic Adventure is pretty dang silly and easy to make fun of.

The fact that Eggman keeps on making the nonsensical mistake of leaving himself open and his giant Beyblades of death come to me.

But if there's one thing that kept me at the tips of my toes, it's when he outright destroys one of the platforms, like, holy smokes, you're lucky he didn't do it to the other one otherwise no more hedgehog.

Like, I didn't see that coming at all, just bam, no more platform, Eggman is getting serious.

Day 23: ...?

Retro Question #1: Do you have any plushies/figures of any Sonic characters, and/or are there any Sonic characters that you'd LIKE to have a plushie/figure of?

I have PLENTY. Sonic, several Shadows, Tails, Knuckles, Cream, Amy, Eggman. There are probably more but I don't remember. I'd like to have Chaos 0's plush. That thing's great.

#2: Top Three Zone Types

Um... City, Factory and Space. I love rainy cities especially but I don't remember if Sonic has any of those.

#3: Favourite Villain Besides Eggman

Merlina! Her intentions were good but she went about things incorrectly. She was a great boss too. She's so cool!

#4: How Have You Made Friends in the Sonic Fanbase?

The SSMB. Haven't met many people outside of here that like Sonic. Not in real life either, but I'm pretty shy so...

Question #24: What was your most intense or nerve-wracking IN-GAME moment(s)?

Um... Let's see. Plenty of moments in the Classic games... A couple bosses were pretty difficult. I THINK though, Sonic Unleashed HD's final QTE. That was so intense and awesome, like, my God. Press X 60 times. 60!I got it on my first try but it was still really intense. Absolutely loved it.

17. Most amusing character design.

Boom Eggman, without a doubt. He represents everything about the show. It's bigger, wackier, hammier, funnier, and a little bit topheavy and it creates the best show the series has seen. Also, I really like the goggles he wears.

18. Who I'd be friends with.

Silver, definitely. He's neglected, constantly used for comic relief, misunderstood, but he's trying his damnedest to make things work for him even though they never do. I relate a lot with this. I know I act like a douche on here most of the time, but really that's because I'm trying so hard in reality to not be a real douche, and that's really hard when nobody takes you seriously.

19. Who does the Shad sound like.

Actually I just should say Shaddy. "The Shad" makes it sound like some porn name. Or Shadman. Which is a porn name in a way, I guess...

Anyway; Travis Willingham as Knuckles. It's not perfect, but I think my general manner of speaking is probably closest to this, or Pete Capella's Silver (shudders). That slightly-nasaly but not whiny sounding effect does it, I guess.

20. Top cutscenes.

I can't do top ten. I only ever do five.

5. Sonic Dies.

PFFFFFT. This cutscene is meant to be so dramatic and it ends up being so narm. Elise's awkward fisheye face, Sonic's teeth clipping through his mouth, the falling that looks like it's meant to be in slow motion but it actually not, the puppetlike laughing of Mephilis, it all creates this horribly funny cutscene that nobody felt the impact it was intended to create.

4. Unleashed opening

Hooray for disappointment. I-in any case, disregarding the actual quality Unleashed displayed, this cutscene was one of the true greats of the series. It's animated on the highest level the series has seen yet, Sonic and Eggman are fighting in SPACE, Sonic goes super and absolutely demolishes until the stupid werewolf bullshit came in. Imagine if a Sonic game started with a level like this, a full-scale attack in a gorgeous environment on the giant airship invasion, it would be amazing.

3. Eggman blows up the moon

THIS FRIGGIN' CUTSCENE. MY GOD. It's the most large-scale attack Robotnik had brought out in the series thusfar, and it truly established at the time how Sonic Adventure 2 was THE biggest Sonic game. And nothing really topped it until Unleashed, but that had it's own problems.

2. Sonic almost dies again.

This was basically the opposite of the 06 cutscene. You had Sonic nearly dying, having to be rescued at the last moment, the biggest explosion in the series, and an act dedicated to running away from it.

1. I'LL MAKE YOU EAT THOSE WORDS!

This cutscene perfectly shows everything about Sonic Adventure 2. You had conviction, false statements, fighting and of course, overlapping dialogue. I can't say anything better than the cutscene itself.

Day 21: Characters interacting differently.

Shenanigans between Sonic and Shadow, mostly. They're paired up and always fighting alongside or against each other, but can you remember one time they just talked about what was going on? There really needs to be more actually going on between these two than just sometimes fighting together or against each other. This isn't Goku and Vegeta, where one is always one-upping the other, but I think in general Shadow doesn't actually talk much when it comes to character development, and that's something I'd like a bit more of.

22: Commercials Shaddy likes

Food. GOOOOOOD.

That's all I can say.

Question 24: What was your most intense IN-GAME moments?

I have three. All from Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

The first is kind of stupid, but it's the entirety of Carnival Night Zone act 2. Why? Because the level goes on and on and on and on and that time limit is crawling on your ass the whole time. You're usually cruising through the zone when you see 9 minutes appear on the timer. You start to haul ass but you'll never make it.

sonic3-carnival_night_zone-0000002397.pn

I don't know if there is something wrong with me, but I don't think I've ever made it through this zone without being killed by the timer! It gets real serious when you know you're getting close to the end, but you got 9:30 on the timer. You still got to run through some long parts which push you through automatically. Those take some time, but then you still got the boss to take out. Dammit.

The second is in Sandopolis Zone act 2 when you smash the seal and all the sand starts pouring up.

qovx3n.png

You REALLY have to move throughout this whole sequence or you're about to be Sonic the Hedgecake. The level seems to get extremely narrow and it goes on forever. This is compunded by the darkening lights which bring out the ghosts, and you often have to push the switches to keep the pillars out of your way.

This is probably the most nerve wrecking part of the whole game.

The third is the first part of Lava Reef Act 2's boss. You come down, the Death Egg's light's activate and HOLY SHIT. Now the whole area is autoscrolling at a fast pace, you got to jump over all the platforms without getting hit by the missiles. This is by far the least bad out of the three but it can really throw you for a loop for the first time.

maxresdefault.jpg

The rest of the boss is a joke though.

Question #24 - Most intense Sonic Experience

Sonic 06

Damn... Like, I know it doesn't make any sense right now, but you'll need to follow me on this one, see through my perspective.

So, I have this thing when I'm faced with a challenge on a game, or a game that is challenging in general: I plan ahead of time and I try to get as prepared as possible, I psych myself up to what I'll be facing next, I learn everything I can about what I'll be facing, I generally take my time to make a strategy with whatever I got, I know, it's weird that I do that with ANY game, but it's how I function.

So Sonic 06. Oh boy. Considering the VERY FIRST LEVEL already needed me to prepare myself for the mach speed zone, so it was quite a ride. Considering most games have like, one or two sections where I need to take this strategic mindset, 06 having me needing to take this approach on every single sitting made it quite insane. Doesn't help I've heard nightmare stories of End of the World, so when I got to that level I literally had the ENTIRE MAP learned.

So considering I always looked forward to every sitting as it was going to be a real damn challenge, yeah, Sonic 06 was pretty intense and nerve-wracking.

30 Days of Sonic Act 2 Day 24: What was your most intense or nerve wracking IN GAME Moments?

For this question, I'm going to go with Labyrinth Zone. Why? Well firstly, you have to deal with the fact you only have a certain amount of time underwater and if you don't get out or get air bubbles, you're dead. Secondly, you have that nerve-wracking drowning music which makes you just want to scramble out the water. Also, this stage is practically not only one of the most hated levels in the whole series but also the first water level, which most fans think is the worst level type in the whole series.

Question #24: What was your most intense or nerve-wracking IN-GAME moment(s)?

EDIT: ooook.. emm.. all of them are from Sonic 3 and Knuckles;  though the drowing one can happend at other games...; because Sonic 3 and knuckles is the Sonic game i play the most of the times

when i'm gonna drown!! DX

Tails+you+mother+source+icanhazcheezburg  not cool Tails

the music and plus not finding a bubble spot soon.. ahh! hehe its a real relief when i get out of the water.. that's why i try to go for the high route ..

but i think its at Sonic 2 water zones that really got me on the nerves... it was more difficult to not go for water danger routes... and once at the water.. its hard to move and the drowing music is faster than in Sonic 3 (i guess)

when i'm out of rings at Doomsday Zone

300px-Sonic_%26_Knuckles_The_Doomsday_Zo speccially at this part!

sometimes... i lose all my rings because i can't make those rockets crush at Eggman's ship.. :D so i end dying.. sometimes i get to beat it .. just in time! and then i feel so great for having passed through like that..

like.. that was close! :D

and at the special stage on Sonic 3 and Knuckles

when it gets faster and faster.. the music helps to get nervous! :D hahah i use to wait to analyze where i am or how i have to move.. at those bounce balls when its does "dun dun dun"  hehe so i can move carefully

but when i finally get it.. ahh its so awesome!

Question #24: What was your most intense or nerve-wracking IN-GAME moment(s)

The timer in Carnival Nights Zone Act 2.

I hate it because it's such a long level. Such a looooooooooong level. The boss battle at the end is especially time consuming and I hate that. It's nearly impossible to not get killed by the timer in that level, or at least it was for me.

I don't like losing lives, especially because of something that's out of my control. I want to get past this level with 4 lives, I really do - then it hits me. I get past the first part of the level in 6 minutes, and then I'm at the boss battle. I've spent all of my time fighting Eggman and attacking at every opportunity I've been given. Five seconds are left until that 10 minute mark hits and I get a time over. Eggman is trying to drop that ball on me and doing so at a pace my grandmother would call slow and you have 5 seconds left. One more hit would've done it and I could've gone on to Ice Cap, but because the boss battle is so time consuming the chance is gone.

All that buildup and intensity from trying to beat the level as flawlessly as possible so I wouldn't lose that life at the end, too. It's a both intense and nerve-racking feeling as if I'm going to lose a life later on because of a single fuck up I made now. It also ends in giant disappointment for me most of the time. One of my least favorite Sonic levels, and it's from the best game in the series. Sucks.

Question #24: What was your most intense or nerve-wracking IN-GAME moment(s)?

That would be the Sonic 3K special stages there. Those special stages were incredibly intense. You play the special stage and it easy at the beginning and you are moving at nice pace but then at the end you are moving faster then light itself. It keeps getting faster to the point where you are going to lose no matter what unless you got miracle or expert at that. I am familiar with Sonic 3 special stages but not with Sonic K and the special stage that was most intense in Sonic 3 was number 7 special stage there. But the most intense special stage is the secret one where you go around in a circle repeatedly it is hard challenge.

I want to add that part from Sonic 3 Hydrocity Act 2 where that wall begins to move. That was real intense for me as kid than.

Got a perfect one for my most nerve-wracking in-game moment...

24y9s3l.jpg

Sonic vs. Blaze: THE BUTTON-MASHING (Sonic Rush)

ANYONE who's played Rush can attest to the sheer nail-bitingness of the finale to this boss. Sure, most of the fight is an utter cakewalk like other character vs. character brawls in past games, but the final phase just takes things to a whole new level. To give you the gist, Sonic and Blaze charge at each other at full boost and the player has to repeatedly mash the A and B buttons to finish off the opposing character before they can do the same to you. Sounds simple, right? WRONG. Not only do you have to tap extremely fast to prevent your foe from getting the slightest edge on you, but the button layout of the DS just makes it really hard to do in general. (Plus keep in mind that your only option when this came out was the DS PHAT. Yeah. Try doing this on those tiny, clacky buttons.) Amplifying the pressure is the intense music playing that only makes you more afraid of making a mistake and having to redo the previous parts of the fight again. Needless to say, it's a very brief, but very stressful experience. I was VERY relieved when I finally passed it with both characters.

Pretty much any time I attempt Specal Stage 3 in Sonic 1. It's so wide, and it is very easy to cock up and fly into a goal (as I have done so many times). Hydrocity Act 2's moving wall also comes to mind, especially in vanilla Sonic 3, where that helpful 1-Up is replaced with a spring. Another one is the Blue Sphere game, specifically the ones where you have a strict way of completing it and one screw-up renders your efforts useless (and it is easy to do once you start speeding up).

Retro Question #1: Do you have any plushies/figures of any Sonic characters, and/or are there any Sonic characters that you'd LIKE to have a plushie/figure of?

I currently have like 2 plushes of sonic plus a (somewhat broken) figure and would pretty much like to have some more figures/plushes of tails, metal sonic, and shadow.

Retro Question #2: What are your top three zone types/tropes/etc in general?

My first favorite zone type would have to be

Snow_Sonic1--article_image.jpg

Ice zones, i've always had a really soft spot for ice zones in games, something about them just gives me this great feeling of refreshment and it helps when they're generally fun levels to boot (sometimes even my favorite level in the game) which is why I like levels like cool edge, frozen factory and ice cap so much. Not to mention that seeing sonic just blaze through snow and ice is so awesome.

My second favorite zone type would have to be the city levels.

City_Escape_01.png

Ever since I first laid eyes on speed highway from sonic adventure I have had a pretty deep fascination with these levels, they just scream excitement whether it be from all the cars just driving along as this blue hedgehog sprints through the streets, tall buildings and plenty of straight aways that give you more speed than anything else, or in some cases all of the above. Needless to say I really love these levels for what they do and hope we get more in the future.

My final favorite trope would admittedly have to be the island/beach trope.

Formation_Gate_02.png

Yeah call me basic but this was the trope that pretty much started me out on this series so it'd be pretty weird not to put it here, I just love how cool yet soothing these levels can be cause while they are playing music that rocks out as hard as they can most of the time, the sights are just so surreal that you can't help but stop and look half the time.

Retro Question #3: Who is/are your favourite villain(s)... APART from Robotnik?

Favorite villain would probably have to go to erazor djinn, he is probably the coolest villain in this entire series to me, his design is cool, his weapon while really awesome is also incredibly funny because its an oversized razor and he has a pretty likeable personality to boot.

Retro Question #4: In what way(s) have you made friends within the Sonic fanbase?

I haven't really made many friends at all if i'm honest (i've actually been growing a bit distant from this place for a bit now) though I plan on changing that sometime soon now that I have a bit more confidence in myself.

Day 24: Most nerve wracking/challenging in game moment?

Probably Eggmanland from sonic unleashed if i'm being honest, its honestly one of the hardest sonic levels i've ever had the pleasure of playing (HD version of course), its fast paced, its tricky, it throws really tough enemies at you and sometimes its even outright cheap, its like a culmination of all the things the games had to offer multiplied by 100 and then some to the point that when you can finally beat it comfortably without dying and getting a good time on it you just feel the greatest sense of accomplishment and relief.

Ah, I missed yesterday's question which seems cool so I want to answer that.

Retro Question #1: I used to own a trio of smaller Classic Sonic, Tails and Knuckles plushies when GAME used to sell them. They were pretty well made and of decent quality. I began collecting the larger versions of them before my interest in them wavered.
Retro Question #2: I'm always a sucker for the very imaginative trope that's sorta crazy - such as Music Plant or Sweet Mountain. I'm also a sucker for ancient ruins or related trope like Lost World (SA) or Sky Sanctuary. Space worlds are also kinda cool too like Death Egg.
Retro Question #3: I don't find many of the villains outside of Robotnik that enjoyable except for Metal Sonic. I think he could be better but I find him enjoyable as a rival. He's also had some enjoyable boss battles before.
Retro Question #4: Ah, I made one decent friend thanks to Sonic a while back. We're not as close now but we were cool - I guess now I have some online friends that I speak to on the regular thanks to SSMB too.

And today's question:

Some of the most intense moments in Sonic games for me always boil down to the Special Stages, more specifically the end few. In most of the games I can think of which sport them, they provide me with a challenges which can sometimes even be luck based. It also can become even further intense when you add the requirements to enter them in the first place - for example, while I find Sonic 3K's special stages less intimidating since I find them enjoyable to play and easier to find, with something like Sonic Advance 2 which requires seven of those stupid winged rings a stage which sometimes feels impossible to get... every special stage is sorta nerve wracking.

Day 24: What was your most intense or nerve-wracking IN-GAME moment(s)?

Hmm, none really jump to my mind straight off the bat, I guess I don't really recall those sorts of moments too easily. I think I do vaguely recall having my nerves wracked by the potential to drown in Aquatic Ruin Zone. I remember always trying to stay on  the upper path when I was younger, and I always got nervy when I ended up below instead since that meant traversing until I found a spring out of there. It's ironic considering that it's one of the least watery water levels you could ask for, but it was present and I didn't like the fact it was present.

Day 24: What was your most intense or nerve-wracking IN-GAME moment(s)?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Yw5jkAHgME

Probably whenever the countdown starts while underwater, doesn't matter which game it is. Though now that I think about it, Colours' drowning theme in particular caught me off guard, thank god for DRILL.

For a more specific answer, hmm. Well, the G.U.N Truck chase way back in Sonic Adventure 2 is definitely intense. Also the race to the rocket handle before it takes off in Metal Harbor. And...pretty much SA2 in general actually, they really had you on your toes in a lot of levels, sometimes for the whole stage. I love stuff like that though, so I'm not complaining.

Oh, and of all the boss fights in the entire series, Knuckles VS Mecha Sonic always got me panicked. I love that fight, but it can still kick my ass to this day, even after I've pretty much mastered everything else. Only thing that comes close is Perfect Chaos, though that's more about atmosphere and stuff than the fight being difficult, at least nowadays...as a kid I died so much during that fight....

Day 24: Most nerve racking *I think my hand actually started to shake a bit* experience in a Sonic game?

Hm, it would probably have to be getting the Untouchable achievement in Sonic 4: Episode 1. I swear, I was not prepared for that kind of difficulty. The game had been a cake walk so I honestly wasn't expecting everything to go so wrong. I must of played through those opening bosses 20+ times that night. This wasn't something that you could simply look up a how to video on youtube to instantly get through it. It all depended on how good your reflexes and timing were. Fuck if I knew anything about that back then. I went in cocky due to the game being so easy up till that point and came out humble as fuck at the end. XD

Day 24: Most intense of nerve racking in-game moment?

Well, Death egg robo from both Sonic 2 and Sonic 4. In 2, you have no ring and before you figure out where to hit boss, because it's very precise, it's very easy to die. In 4 you have rings but the fight itself is much harder. And if you get a game over, you have to do the entire boss rush again. That's why I haven't yet beated Episode 1, it just got too annoying.

In the terms of levels, Wing Fortress from Sonic 2, Final Rush from SA2 and Canyon levels from Heroes (especially Team dark and Chaotix). Wing Fortress because it has bottomless pits just everywhere and hat level taught to me that d-pad is better than touch screen (I had much harder time on that with tablet than I had with PS3). Final Rush because I just alway have very miserable time with rail grinding. Crazy Gadget is also very intense but I think Final Rush just barely wins. And rail grinding didn't got any better in Heroes. I can't count how many times I died because I missed the rail or when I jumped out of it momentum throw me to bottomless pit. And with Team Dark I also died twice in the row when light speed dash didn't worked.

Question #24: What was your most intense or nerve-wracking IN-GAME moment(s)?

Probably whenever I wanted to S Rank levels in of Sonic Unleashed, since I had a tendency to be very perfectionist and tried to S Rank as many levels as possible with as many collectibles collected as possible, which means if I screwed up EVEN ONCE on a level, I would end up redoing the entire level all over again...

Burned me out really quick.

Day 24: Most intense in-game moment

Perfect Dark Gaia (PDK) (HD Unleashed)

What a fight this was. Just getting here was half the trouble, the Gaia Colossus sections with Dark Gaia gave me quite a bit of trouble, especially that laser which, to this day, I assume you can't avoid taking damage from and can only minimise it via the shield. I was also caught out once or twice by Sonic's third running section and ended up running out of time. Eventually though, I made it through and then the real fight began.

Here I am, final page. Dark Gaia's "perfected" itself (by the way, what a gruesome transformation that was) and Sonic's gone super to take it down. The intensity came from the knowledge that if I failed now, I'd be back at that Colossus fight and by now I was not going to let that happen again.

The orchestral Endless Possibility is one of my favourite Sonic tracks and it really does an amazing job of setting the mood of a final showdown and that the world's fate is entirely on you.

That 60X button mash felt like the game trying to bite back any way it could to try and send me back. That was probably the worst of it, watching that bar deplete as you spam as fast as you can hoping that you're being quick enough.

The final section of Sonic forcing each of PDK's hands off the colossus and then charging right through the eye really felt like Sonic's personal triumph after dealing with his Werehog form. It's as if to say "You put me through that, now I'm in control. I win".

Question #24: What was your most intense or nerve-wracking IN-GAME moment(s)?

Sonic Vs. Blaze ; Last stand (Sonic Rush)

I.Hate.This.Part.

I like Sonic Rush. It's no masterpiece, but I can still play through the game without getting bored.  Some of the boss fights may be too easy or too gimmicky. I never had a problem with that last Chaos Emerald. What did I had a problem with was this;

r6E0dx2.png

I swear, the first time I played this part of the boss fight (I played the game around its release) I just couldn't get it right. I was stuck there for a whole week because my fingers weren't fast enough. And the worst part? I still had the other character's story to complete.  But, oh god, was I satisfied when I finally defeated that cat.

But even now, I always shiver when I get to Dead Line.

Getting the Air Necklace. (Sonic Adventure 2)

eYphbrd.png

I'm not a fan of underwater stages in a 3D game. I'm always uneasy and nervous whenever I have to play through one of those things. That's the reason why I don't want to play that Ecco game for the Dreamcast, or why if I feel like playing Bioshock I go straight to Infinite.

And the Sonic series gave me the music of my nightmares. You know the one. I had to play through Cannon's Core the first time without this useful gadget, because I didn't know about his existence. And I died. And died. And died. A lot.  But I was victorious in the end, even though I was adamant about never playing the last stage ever again.  But, when a friend of mine told me about the Air Necklace, I decided to get it. I wanted to get all As in Adventure 2, and I knew that that power-up was to be essential to the task.

Such a shame that that thing was located deep inside Aquatic Mine which, you can guess, was not exactly my favourite level in the game. Deep inside the level, after a long tunnel underwater. And you had to be quick, because otherwise Knuckles would have drowned. I still remember going  "oh shit oh shit oh shit" or more exactly "MERDA MERDA MERDA" when the drowning music started playing and I was still halfway through the aforementioned tunnel. The sight of the power-up, glowing in the distance, gave me enough adrenaline to push through, otherwise I would have snapped. For real. Fuck water stages.

Day 23 & 24: Scramble Time!

This slipped my mind. Catch up time.

23-1: Plush Ownership

I don't own any Sonic plushies. If I did though it wold probably be Knuckles since pre-2010 Knuckles is my favorite character.

23-2: Love of Level Tropes

1. City Levels (Speed Highway, City Escape, Crisis City, Skyscraper Scamper, etc.): I know that realistic/human related stuff is hated by a large portion of the fandom but for me it's what set Sonic apart from other games (Mega Man being the only other platformer I can think of that has anything similar). I love how these levels show that, on Sonic's Earth, the real and surreal not only coexist but blend together into one, resulting in things like highways built like roller-coasters with loops and corkscrews and everything. I also like the variety it offers, from the neon nighttime of Modern Speed Highway, to the high-speed chases of City Escape in broad daylight, to the futuristic speedways of Grand Metropolis, to the war torn Westopolis, and the post-apocalyptic Crisis City. It's a shame that we'll probably never see them again at this rate.

2. Airship Levels (Wing Fortress, Sky Deck, Egg Fleet, Sky Troops, etc.): What better way to demonstrate that Eggman means business than by giving the player an up close look at his massive airships? Launching across huge gaps and dodging cannon fire with a vast expanse of sky on all sides is always a thrill.

3. Jungle Levels (Green Forrest, Tropical Jungle, Death Ruins, Jungle Joyride, etc.): What better way to enjoy nature than when it's trying it's damnedest to murder you? Jungle levels are always nice, I love how lush and green they are, it's always a sight to behold. I also love how it often crosses over with ruin levels, which is another theme I often enjoy.

23-3: Favorite Non-Eggman Villain

Merlina, no doubt about it. That she has an understandable motive and wants to do the right thing makes her one of the more interesting villains in the series. The fact that she's powerful enough to beat Sonic in a straight fight just makes her even better.

Also an honorable mention to Gerald Robotnik.

23-4: Fanbase Friends

Um... I met a guy wearing a Tails hat in school once and we chat on occasion. Does that count?

24: Nerve-Wracking Experiences

I've got a few.

1. Cannon's Core/Biolizard: Cannon's core is interesting as (so long as you have the air necklace) it's one of the few levels in the franchise that manages to be difficult without being particularly lethal. The Knuckles segment still requires a few tries to get past but I rarely ever die on it, which somehow makes it even worse.

Biolizard on the other hand is very much lethal. He's one of the few legitimately difficult bosses in the series and I love him for it.

2. End of the World: This one took me several tries to complete. Even if it didn't have the glitches that wouldn't change.

3. Eggmanland/Dark Gaia: Outside the brief respite provided by the Egg Dragoon this is probably one of the hardest parts of the series. I mean press the button 60x!? Are you kidding me!? Raaaaagh!

Day 24: Most Intense Sonic Experiences

Well, I don't know about you guys, but there's always one moment that will always stick to me. It's not the barrel from Sonic 3, no. Instead it's Marble Zone Act 3. Talk about a difficulty spike. As a newbie to the series, this level was pretty hard and nerve wracking. And those jumps near the end of the level. Ooohhh those jumps! I had to repeat that part of the stage like, 6 times before I managed to beat it. It was rather intense my first time playing. I still get nervous when trying to seedrun the level. Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

Be careful not to get hit by the spiiikeesss

Okay, whew. Gotta make that jump. Just one jump.

Then THIS part comes and it's all like

It would have to be the Untouchable and A Golden Wave trophies from Sonic 4.

Untouchable has already been covered, but A Golden Wave was tricky for slightly different reasons. Sure, some boss battles you could do completely as Super Sonic, but others still required you to wait until to the last second to transform. The final boss in particular I had a huge struggle against.

But I got 'em!

Day 24: Most Nerve-Wracking

The final part of Perfect Dark Gaia on 360/PS3.

Seriously, the "press X in 10 seconds" bit was just cruel.

The music happens to be around the more intense moments whenever I get there, so that actually sets the mood and makes it feel even more desperate, what with the whole "if you don't do this Chip dies, motherfucker!"
