Day 25: Which of the franchise's art styles do you like the most?

Well, I find a lot of the art styles in the series pretty appealing to the eye, but I have two that I think stand above the others.

1. Unleashed/Generations

sonic-generations-02-700x393.png

It has to be said that these games, regardless of how you find the game quality, are things of beauty. Colours I think is let down a bit by the simplicity of the level design, But these two using the same art style really knock it out of the park. Unleashed uses it to make its realistic world really pop, which works wonders in levels like Cool Edge Day and Jungle Joyride Day (even if the latter suffers from framerate issues). Generations uses it to breathe new life into old levels, and it really works because some (most, actually) of the levels are absolutely spectacular on a visual level. It was a great way to live up to the legacy of those levels.

2. Chaotix.

tumblr_n1bqa42ch81rfy6zso1_500.gif

That's handy.

Technically, Sonic CD has the same art style, but there's always been one thing about the art of Sonic CD that's going to be really unpopular; I don't think it holds much cohesion. Aside from Palmtree Panic present and Stardust Speedway present, I can't really call the distinct levels and their time periods unless there's a character on screen that makes me recognise the set piece. Quartz Quadrant is the worst because I always forget it exists, let alone what it looks like. Chaotix doesn't have that variety, but it does have a stronger sense of identity with the art design. Each one is distinct and very nice to look at. And as pointed out in that link above, the levels gradually change as you go through them on multiple visits, so a lot of care was put into how the art would develop with the playthrough.

And what about favourite art style regarding character art? Well, another unpopular one, I'll say that much...

Modern Uekawa/Sonic Channel

Amy_rose_sonic_channel.png

I know, people have chastised the current art for various reasons. Me, I find the style quaint and understated. It gives a charm to the regular activities the cast are carrying out in a way that seems really...well, Japanese is the only word I can think to describe it.

Day 25 Favourite Art style.

Unleashed / Colours / Generations

ZEysoSi.png

Those games are often said to be the most beautiful and gorgeous instalments in the series, and with reason! Everything about them, even those little details that you wouldn't notice unless you were told to, indicate care and research. In Unleashed, you had realistic cities with that little touch of cartoony goodness that made them pop-out, and in Generations the miracle happened; things like Green Hill Zone and  Sky Sanctuary, City Escape and Spagonia, really looked like they were from the same world.

Also, I have to repeat this, I fucking love Rooftop Run. One of my favourite levels in the whole series.

It's a shame we probably won't be able to run through stages like these in the near future. I mean, darn!

Day 24

Either the pipes section in Eggmanland or the Sonic sections in the Dark Gaia boss, both from Sonic Unleshed. The pipes section was hell on earth, as you had to be so precise but at the same time with the sluggish controls that the Werehog had. Had the controls been better it might have been easier, but fucking hell this section in terms of design was the devil.

The Sonic sections in the Dark Gaia fight are timed and you have to be as quick as possible otherwise the Gaia Colosuss gets destroyed. Doesn't sound that difficult right? Giant purple tentacle things blocking your path, constant requirement for quick reflexes and, again, less than stellar controls. Still doesn't sound bad? Well the music as well as Chip's panicking really puts you on the spot if it wasn't already tense enough. You know that you are running out of time and I really think that pressure is your greatest enemy in these sections, especially the last one.

Day 25

I actually have two favourite art styles; Unleashed and Lost World. Unleashed is basically "What if Pixar worked in the art department for a video game?", because it takes settings that you would typically see in the real world but adds a more cartoony filter over them. Even the humans have wacky proportions and designs to make Sonic and co feel less out of place, and it actually works.

Despite it being somewhat controversial among some people, I love Lost World's art style because of how bright and vibrant everything is. While it looked basic in Lost World, I would put that down to the level geometry in general being far too simplistic. Apply this art style to some more complex terrain, and I have no doubt that it would look absolutely gorgeous. I feel that the over the top cartoon look really fits Sonic, as well as all of the cartoony effects like puffs of dust when he runs. I would like to see this one return personally.

Day 25: Favourite art style

Sonic Adventure. I think that it was able to bring more realistic world and still retain some elements from the classic games.

I also really like classic and Heroes desing

Question #25: Which of the franchise's art styles do you like the most?

I like Sonic CD, myself. I prefer the classic games in general in terms of visuals because they have an aesthetic that I feel to be more fitting for a Sonic game, and CD takes what the other games did and turned it up to 11.

lVmMW3f.png

It's vibrant and crazy but cool and pretty. It does a lot right, and it all feels like it fits the Sonic level design that I personally prefer.

The color pallette especially is one that I prefer - it suits the mood and looks kickass on top of it, and they did enough mixing to make it unique as well as subdued. I love it.

Favorite art style...

5zgs3d.jpg

Unleashed/Colors/Generations

Yeah, popular answer I know, but I really dug how this style was like a best of both worlds between the colorful, wild elements of Sonic in general and the more realistic stuff from the Adventure games. It was cartoony, yet grounded, like an animated film or something similar. Sega definitely learned their lesson after Sonic 06 tried to go too real for its own good and the solution is just SO PRETTY. It was like the true step into the next-gen that the series desperately needed.

e5pboh.jpg

Also want to give a shout-out to the tapestry style of Sonic & the Black Knight's cutscenes. I'd love it if future games did more illustrated story bits like this. They really gave the Storybook games their own flavor.

Honestly, I loved the way Richard Elson drew Sonic in StC, from roughly the Sonic  adaptation up to the whole Brotherhood of Metallix saga.

I was never really enamoured with chubby classic Sonic and the modern design is all fine and dandy, but Elson's design is what I saw most of growing up, and that sticks with you. Classic sensibilities, slightly more athletic, and just...cool.

Question #25: Which of the franchise's art styles do you like the most?

Like many have said : Sonic CD and Unleashed.

Sonic CD is vibrant, dynamic and colourful. The opening is still one of the best animated Sonic I've ever seen.

Unleashed... where do I begin ? The levels are magnificent. Gigantic. Full of life. Full of details. Vibrant. They made me want to visit some of the IRL locations that inspired them like Mykonos. I wish we'd get another game like that.

Its sort of a tie between unleashed and colors for me, unleashed primarily for how it blended realistic locations with cartoony visuals and how nicely the NPC's looked and colors for how interesting and, well, colorful its environments were with so much detail and care put into (same for unleashed too).

(sorry if the post is a bit short, I had a longer one typed out but this site likes to kick me in the face sometimes so it didn't end up posting).

Days XXIII, XXIV, and XXV

I) I have several dozen plush relating to the Sonic the Hedgehog series. I have 3 Great Eastern Sonic dolls, 2 Amy, 2 Tails, and 1 each of Knuckles, Shadow, and even their rare attempt at Silver Sonic (who doesn't look much like he should.) I also have Jazwares Classic Sonic (both sizes), Classic Tails, the Werehog, and their larger Modern Sonic and Tails (I gave my Jazwares small Modern Sonic to my bro). I also have a Kellytoy Cream and a small Nanco Sonic. But I also have quite a few Great Eastern plush: Classic Tails, Classic Knuckles, Classic Amy, The Werehog, and Rouge. The Rouge is one of my most prized possessions, along with my handmade, knitted Blaze plush.

II) Concerning archetypes, I do like the ancient ruins archetype of levels, as they're a great source of world-building, like in the Adventure series and S3K. In recent games, they haven't established much about these ruins, leaving me disappointing. I'm still curious as to those ruins on Lost Hex... Who the hell made these things? I also like the mountain level type, especially just looking down those snowy slopes. The ARK levels are always nice-looking in their design, with subdued neon lights among bits of metal.

III) A salute to Fleetway's terrifying rogues gallery. Megatox is like something out of a nightmare, a sociopathic sludge monster who wants to pollute the world because he can. Dr. Zachary, despite his frailty, has some great plans for revenge. Nutzan Bolt is the type of guy the Metarex should have sent after Tails. Let me also refer to Clove and Cassia, two of Robotnik's minions from the Nu252.

The most intense moment was, shockingly, the Nega-Wisp Armor. Sonic and Tails are simply paling around an attraction Eggman has constructed. This plan seems to be very reminiscent of the olden days of trapping animals to power death machines. We see evidence that Eggman's dealing with a deadly foreign power as usual, with him being even able to brainwash Tails briefly. Just as you've come to the final stretch, the exit room, you expect a horrible monster once again, making your foe even more pathetic than last time, as all you've fought is his largish Badniks. Suddenly, Sonic has to confront his old nemesis in a major showdown for the first time in a DECADE.

Eggman's got the gall to challenge you without some fancy-pants god or serving as a side-distraction, and he does show it. Turning your new calamari-induced superpowers against you, you have to dodge, shimmy, and hit at just the right time. When the orchestral "Reach For the Stars" comes in, you know Eggman means business. Suddenly, it's SONIC who has the sudden foreign aid, as one Wisp of each color aids Sonic in a Spirit Bomb: FINAL COLOR BLASTER!  Lost World tried and failed to have the same impact, mainly due to the polka music.

As far as art style goes, I think the Adventure Era art feels the most "Sonic", as it can easily mesh the classic games inside as well, and conceivably feel like the same world. I do think the photo-realism in 06 was too far, however. The Unleashed trilogy's art is very nice, but not very "Sonic", for the most part.

Question #25: Which of the franchise's art styles do you like the most?

I'm going to say the Rush series, it's dynamic, creates memorable location and it's very hard to forget.

Of the two, I say Rush Adventures has more going for it, it has it's own unique swashbuckling theme  with a very sunny atmosphere.

That's not to say Rush doesn't have a good style, in fact, I think it's boxart is one of most stylish of the Sonic series:

Day 25: Favourite Art Style

Sonic Unleashed

I emphasise that this is solely Unleashed and not Colours/Generations which do indeed look great. Unleashed though really is the best the series has looked to date and I think it's the lighting that really sets it above the likes of Generations. The environments look beautiful. The lighting gives them a suitably realistic feel while the varied colour palette serve to counterbalance that and maintain the cartoony atmosphere Sonic calls home. Adabat's hub always looked particularly beautiful to me and I can't get enough of how the water looks there.

Day 23: Klonoa really needs to catch up on these things

Part 1: Toys

Have I previously mentioned about this one?

Hru2mSW.jpg

In addition to the Classic Sonic with the broken nose, I used to have a Modern Sonic one that broke off. Both came with a spinner and a motobug figure, although I can't find my motobug and the last time I saw the spinner was in a old townhouse I used to live in.

For the future? I'm probably not interested in getting anything else. I haven't bought a toy figure for almost 6 years, and that's pretty much it.

Part 2: Top 3 Zones/Tropes

1.

Green_Hill_Zone_SSBB.jpg

If there's one iconic type of zones present in tons of Sonic games, it would be the "Hill stages". From Green Hill to Seaside Hill, the rocks and structures have colorful patterns as well. The signature checkered pattern, the lush grasses, it's all stuff that anybody who's seen a Sonic game would easily relate to.

2. Sea/Beach Levels

772414-picture_1.png

From Seaside Hill to Emerald Coast, these levels are sights that in real life anybody would want to see. You know, if Sonic could swim, I'm pretty sure that a lot of us would want to just jump in the water in these levels. They're interesting in that this theme just seems to be more fun in the 3D games. Having the extra dimension makes the level design and obstacles really feel like it would fit in a island paradise.

3. Eggman's Robotic Dooms

From the Death Egg to the "Final Zone", Eggman's personal base of hell is a interesting trope that's probably been seen many times in the series. These robotic areas are supposed to be the final gateway to the ultimate showdown with Eggman, and the way these levels look definitely make it seem the way. The numerous obstacles in Eggmanland in Unleashed, the *Fight all of the boring bosses again* part of the final level in Sonic 4, it's supposed to make you feel like you are in Eggman's Turf. Which you are.

PART III: Wait Eggman isn't the only villain

Chaos is a really neat villain in my book. Each encounter he shows that he has more chaos emeralds by having more attacks and having a more menacing look. He had a nice backstory and at the time, seeing a villain that's completely clear and is pretty much water is just so cool to look at. Well, maybe I wouldn't be impressed when I first played the game maybe 2-3 years back, but I can understand why Chaos was designed as this kind of monster.

Part 4: Friends?

I've made plenty of friends on here due to our connection to Sonic (sort of.), but outside of that I don't know. At least the people I know don't really like Sonic, and the Sonic fans I did meet in my schools were actually kind of obnoxious and were hard to generally be friends with. I guess being on this forum allowed me to connect to more people that had similar interests, such as video games and well, Sonic.

DAY 25: FAVORITE ARTSTYLE

I've really grown a huge liking towards the recent Sonic Runners. It's pretty much taking that nendoroid Sonic design, expanding it with to every character and, well, it looks awesome. It also fits in very well within the aesthetics or Sonic Lost World, which also seems to be another art style I like.

I also like the American design for Sonic. It's weird, but hey, I'm a bit grown to it, especially after the box artist got a bit more free range to come to terms with the art style, so the characters are a bit more in line with the Japanese designs. It was nice, and I enjoyed it.

Day 25: My favorite artstyle:

One thing I'll give Lost World is its aesthetics. What it lacks in originality, it (almost) makes up for with bright, colorful landscapes and vibrant atmosphere. My favorite part about it is the Badniks: they all look so cute and cartoony, which makes sense seeing as they're all robots powered by and based on animals, built by a round, egg-shaped scientist with a mustache! Even those ghosts from SA2 I dread so much look goofy here! Not to mention the attentions to detail, such as Cluckers clucking if you listen carefully!

Question #25 - Favorite Artstyle

I'll go with Lost World, it fits Sonic really well, and it looks like a Classic Sonic game translated into 3D, with everything looking very colorful and alive, and as much as I like the beautiful settings of Generations, they just have a bit too much contrast with the cartoony nature of the series.

Sonic Lost World also has it's own style, you know, like, you can say by the style of the levels what a Mario game is, what a Metroid game is, what a Donkey Kong game is, and Lost World does just that, it has it's own unique style that fits Sonic really well and I hope is brought back to become the main style for now own, the identity the series is always looking for.

Retro Question #1: Do you have any plushies/figures of any Sonic characters, and/or are there any Sonic characters that you'd LIKE to have a plushie/figure of? (I realise this one might feel like a repeat of this year's own memorabilia-related question from before, but I felt this one was still different enough in the sense that it also asks for what you would like to get in the future.)

Retro Question #2: What are your top three zone types/tropes/etc in general?

Retro Question #3: Who is/are your favourite villain(s)... APART from Robotnik?

Retro Question #4: In what way(s) have you made friends within the Sonic fanbase?

Retro Question #1: Do you have any plushies/figures of any Sonic characters, and/or are there any Sonic characters that you'd LIKE to have a plushie/figure of?

I have plashes of Modern Sonic, Modern Knuckles, Shadow, and a Silver Colored Modern Sonic, all of which I had received from Kings Dominion and Ocean City.

I would like to get some Classic Versions of Sonic and Knuckles and Classic and Modern Versions of Tails, Amy, and Dr. Eggman.

Any other plushies of Sonic characters I can get would be a bonus.

Retro Question #2: What are your top three zone types/tropes/etc in general?

I don't remember exactly what I put down last time, but I'm going to try and come up with new answers.

3. Ice and Snow

Icecap.png

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I love the snow. Some of the coldest parts of Sonic's World are fun to ice skate, bobsled, snowboard, and slide through….though Sonic really should get a warm coat, hat, and scarf...

2. Beaches

tumblr_m560wb3ulL1r3tkn3o1_500.jpg

…This shouldn't really shouldn't come to a surprise to anyone who saw my last Level Themed Topic. I personally love the beaches IRL and the ones in Sonic's world are even fun for me.

1. Amusement Parks

320px-Classic_Sonic_in_Casino_Night.jpg

While doing research for Sonic Level topics, it came to my attention that Casinos are technically a form of Amusement Park. I also love the other types of Amusement Park levels in Sonic games too. Whether it's Daytime, Sunset, or Nighttime, getting on rides, listening to the sounds, and watching the sights almost make me forget about the obvious death traps Dr. Eggman has waiting for Sonic and Friends around the fun and festivities. Also, Pinball Mechanics.

Retro Question #3: Who is/are your favorite villain(s)... APART from Robotnik?

The_Real_Scourge.jpg

Scourge the Hedgehog

I always like the Evil Twin characters of a series….when they're done right.

The original Evil Sonic was…OK.

However, his transformation into Scourge was better.

Retro Question #4: In what way(s) have you made friends within the Sonic fanbase?

I've met a number of different Sonic fans through different websites.

In the past, I would always use GameSpot for gaming news and information and I finally made an account in 2008. While on GameSpot, I met a number of Sonic fans and joined a GameSpot Union called "SonicSpot", which was Sonic Version of GameSpot with News, Reviews, and Blogs about Sonic. I became an officer there and post up news information. I also helped create a brand new Review Box and did some reviews for some of the games. Unfortunately, GameSpot recently redesigned their entire website and Unions, while brought back to the new site, all died quietly.

With my GameSpot account, I also had a GameFAQs account and posted on the Forums for Sonic Chronicles, Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic and the Black Knight. This also got me interested in writing GameFAQs for Sonic Games and I worked with the community to find answers and help people with certain games.

When Sonic 4: Episode 1 was announced I decided to create a SEGA Forums Account to get more information on Sonic Games. There I met more Sonic Fans and discussed topics about Sonic 4, Sonic Colors, Generations, Lost World, and other things Sonic. I even got involved in the Contest there.

At one point, the SEGA Forums were closed, so many of us migrated to this site and met more Sonic Fans here and made new friends.

There are other sites where I've met people like YouTube, Tumblr, Deviantart, and videogame networks like Miiverse and Xbox Live. Even though our fanbase is divided, each segment has an awesome group of Sonic fans in it. I love being a Sonic Fan and I hope to spend another 24 years with you guys. :D

Question #24: What was your most intense or nerve-wracking IN-GAME moment(s)?

NOTE: It might be easy to get the wrong idea due to the wording of the question (and the image used for this one I guess), but this question is not about what you find scary or creepy in the games, so try not to get it mixed up. ^^;; Unless this is part of why the moment in question was tense for you of course, in which case, you're in the clear.

Throughout the 24 years of Sonic, I have experienced some very intense moments where my hands started to sweat.

No Ring Bosses

I_do_remember_too_that,_how_hard_this_fi

One of my least favorite things about some of the Genesis Era Sonic games are the bosses where no Rings are present. It's bad enough that some of these bosses have to be multiple times but if you make one mistake you have to start all over again. Good luck learning the boss's patterns and knowing when to attack and dodge.

Sonic Shuffle

sonic+shuffle+sega+dreamcast+sonic+tails

As I've explained, there are a lot of stressful moments during Sonic Shuffle.

Take this minigame for example.

No, I don't know how or why everyone is inside the mouth of an alligator. I do know that in order to win you have to hit the A Button like your life truly depends on it.

Chao Races

racegoal.jpg

Good job! You're almost near the goal! ….what…you tripped?! No, NO, NO! GET UP! RUN!

….WHAT?! WHO DUG A PIT THERE?! NOOOOOO!

Time Based Missions

hqdefault.jpg

Whether you're trying to Clear a Mission, get an S-Rank, or beat someone on the Leaderboards, timed areas can be a little stressful sometimes.

Today's example, is a mission from Sonic Unleashed called "Missing Sister". The main reason why this Mission is so hard is because not only do you have to hit every shortcut to reach the end, there's wall running section with spikes on it. If you mess up there, you have to start all over again.

Question #25: Which of the franchise's art styles do you like the most?

Out of the games, cartoons, comics, and other parts of the franchise?

….

….

….

...I can't decide…

There are so many different and unique versions of Sonic that work for me in some shape and form.

Whether it's the official look from the games, the creative work of the current Archie Comics artists, the animation techniques of the cartoons, and even the works of several fans (both I know on this Forum and across the internet), I can't pick any one of them and say this art is the one I like the most. I like all of them individually.

…of course, there are some artstyles that I really don't like but that's a story for another day.

Day 23: Retro Questions!

1. Do you have any plushies/figures of any Sonic characters, and/or are there any Sonic characters that you'd LIKE to have a plushie/figure of?

I have three or four Sonics, a Tails, and a Chao plushie! If it were at all possible, I'd love a Blaze one, but I'm pretty sure one has never been made, at least officially.

Also, I have a ton of Sonic figures, I couldn't possibly list them all so easily.

2. What are your top three zone types/tropes/etc in general?

I LOVE the casino levels! Casino Night, Casinopolis, Bingo Highway, etc. I wish we had more of them, I love controlling Sonic as a pinball!

Second place would be city levels. They are just so very diverse! City Escape, Crisis City, Rooftop Run, you name it! They're all technically city levels, but they all are so different!

Finally, I'm gonna go with sky levels. Sky Sanctuary, Windy Valley, they're just so refreshing and make me feel free!

3. Who is/are your favourite villain(s)... APART from Robotnik?

That would have to be Gerald Robotnik. His tragic story is heartbreaking, there's a lot more to him than just "evil guy wants to blow up the world". His story enables you to sympathize with him… well, somewhat.

Metal Sonic is a close second place. He's just so badass.

4. In what way(s) have you made friends within the Sonic fanbase?

I've met a lot of my closest fandom friends on Twitter, actually. I would just happen to tweet Sonic-related things, and then we'd follow each other, and viola! But secondly, I got to meet some amazing people (some of them you SSMB guys!) at Sonic Boom 2013.

Day 24: What was your most intense or nerve-wracking IN-GAME moment(s)?

I gotta go with nearly drowning underwater. That music just really gets to me for some reason, ya know?

drowning-sonic.jpg

In second place would be Sonic Shuffle mini games. Especially coming down to the last few seconds of a 3-vs-1 mini game.

As I've said before, this game has seriously come between my brothers and me. The competition is too real.

Day 25: Which of the franchise's art styles do you like the most?

SonicGenerations.jpg

Sonic Generations for sure. I love EVERYTHING about this game's art style. I'm a huge fan of the red, yellow, blue, and black stars and circles (btw I was thrilled when I saw it made a return in Sonic Runners).

Everything in the game also looks really good. It looks realistic and believable, without forgetting it is a game about a cartoon hedgehog.

Sonic_Generations_Classic.jpg

Just look at that detail. The colors in each stage are also super vibrant and fitting. All and all, it's a beautiful game.

Day 25: Favorite Art Style:

sonic-generations-1124-025.jpg

Sonic Generations

THIS is how you mash up cartoony and realism and make it look good. I mean, look at these;

Chemical%20Plant%20-%20Modern%20Sonic%20

maxresdefault.jpg

rooftop-run-modern-sonic-3.jpg

Sonic-Generations-Planet-Wisp-Screenshot

Such detail! And they fact that they added all this realistic detail to landscapes is freaking awesome. Like Crusher I happen to be rather fond of artstyles that go this route. Green Hill, City Escape, even freaking Crisis City, all look like they belong to the same world. There is a clear sense of vibrancy in the levels and they look so beautiful and full of life.

I also HAVE to give props to Unleashed. While it is a bit more realistic than Generations, the beauty and scope of the levels as well as the fact that Sonic and his friends still don't look at all out of place (having the more cartoony humans helps a lot) is amazing. Combined with the superb lighting of the Hedgehog Engine, you have one of the most visually appealing Sonic games out there, if not one of the most visually appealing games in general.

~SSMB Has Cleared Avant-Garde Artwork Act 25!~

"You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time." - Masahiro Sakurai, I'll Do Anything For Ridley But I Won't Do That (A sólo palabras aquí)

Question #26: What is your SINGLE most favourite aspect/character/etc to come out of any non-game media?

original.jpg

I don't even have anything against Harley. I just like this guy more.

Being adaptations of the same source, the cartoons, comics and restaurants of Sonic are bound to be full of places, individuals, and devices that haven't been established anywhere else in the series apart from within said adaptation. Land of the Sky? Nowhere to be seen in the games. Sonic having siblings? Doesn't have any in Game Land as far as we're aware of. Cosmo? Lyric? Mammoth Mogul? They won't be coming home for dinner the next time there's a Time Eater ruining Sonic's birthday. Whether we would genuinely like to see a certain character or location or whatever in a future game, or if we wouldn't want that but still really appreciate the thing in question, which creation incepted from an adaptation are you fond of more than any other?

NOTE: Because I'm asking for specific concepts/characters/etc, vague and cover-all answers like "the characterisation in general" don't count.

Crusher's Thoughts: There's probably something else that I'm forgetting that someone else will remind me of minutes after this post has been sent, but for now, out of all the choices that I can actually remember, I'll go with the Supreme High Robotnik, the muscle-bound and Emerald-enhanced manifestation of the doctor from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

x240-8Oz.jpg

First off, being able to throw someone like a javelin into the Big Bang is one of the greatest superpowers ever invented. Secondly, the mere idea of Robotnik transforming into what is essentially his own giant monster is both hilarious and amazing, especially with how rare it is to see Robotnik engaging in confrontations with his own fists. Thirdly, the only reason Robotnik was able to come this far and achieve this form was because he successfully gathered all the Chaos Emeralds (all... four of them?) after having being chased by Sonic on a wild and mini saga-spanning goose chase, proving that for how comical and meme-ridden the AoStH incarnation of Rrrrrrrrobootnik may have been even compared to other versions of the Eggman, even this one had a legitimately cunning and dangerous side, which to be fair was prominent in a surprising number of episodes - the Mass Transit Trouble episode being a noteworthy example - but it was probably highlighted the most with this moment. Anyway, I know some might consider the general idea to be un-Eggmanlike, and on one hand, I can see where those who think that are coming from, but even so, the idea of Robotnik himself getting his own little upgrade for a climactic final battle is definitely a concept that I find very intriguing, especially with how memorable it would most likely be by default.

On a side note, I always found it funny how quick he transforms into the Supreme High Robotnik. We see him put on the Chaos Emeralds one by one, there's a dramatic puff of smoke, and then when the dust settles seconds after he's already lost his clothes and pumped some iron. There are loading screens that have lasted longer than this transformation.

So with that out of the way, you may now post awaaaaaayyyy!~

Question #26: What is your SINGLE most favourite aspect/character/etc to come out of any non-game media?

Anyone who's seen me post in the Archie Sonic or Lara-Su thread know exactly who I'm going to talk about but fuck it. I'm going to talk about this character.

204px-Minafbs.jpg

Mina Mongoose. What can I say? She is hands down my favourite Archie Sonic original character, and is one of the few characters I'd place over most of the game cast. Among a pool of badly drawn Knuckle knockoffs, Sonic clones, and a bunch of forgettable characters, along came Mina. One of the only decent characters during the Bollers run on Archie Sonic.

Unlike a lot of the other characters, she had a defined arc featured during Bollers run, learning to stand on her own two feet and follow her own dreams and talents, rather than just doing stuff to make others like her. She started off depressed because her mother was captured and robotized, and was going to get herself robotized, because in her eyes, even if she lost her free will, she'd at least get to be with her mother. Sonic luckily managed to convince her not to, and this caused Mina to grow a crush on Sonic.

What this developed into was a love triangle between Sonic, Sally, and Mina. Now of course, most of the time, romance in Archie Sonic is shit. So I'll quickly sum up. She attempted to become a freedom fighter to impress Sonic but decided against it after not being very good. Then after Sally is kidnapped by Nack, her and Sonic use their speed to break into his hideout and try free Sally, only for Mina to unwittingly see Sonic & Sally kiss, instantly breaking her heart.

Nack then tried to snipe Sally from behind, only for Mina to jump in at the last second, and take the shot for her, risking her own life to ensure happiness for Sonic & Sally.

Skip forward a year later, and a trip through space for Sonic, and Mina's put her life on track, and is so better off for it. She doesn't care about impressing Sonic, she only wants to do what she wants and enjoys (Singing and raising morale for the freedom fighters), she's gotten herself a boyfriend in Ash, and has grown a backbone, being able to put both Ash and Sonic in their places when they start fighting.

But then Ian Flynn came in and made everything so much fucking better, to the level where she became my favourite Archie Exclusive. We learned the backstory of her powers, had character development with both Mina and Ash, and it all become so much better. Then came Iron Dominion and Lead Up to Genesis which built up Mina's character by showing she was terrified because of the Iron Queen and Iron Nicole's rule over New Mobotropolis, leading to her altering her music to send a message about being cautious about Nicole.

But Naugus tricked her and used her to send fear all over the city and used that to take over, and banish Nicole, and along with that, Sally, and Sonic talked to Mina in person about how Nicole tried to save as many as possible and was forced to watch the horrific events up close and in detail. Leading to Mina regretting things had gotten so far. After a while, Mina visited Nicole and the two made up, finally releasing Mina from her fears.

Overall, I think Mina's one of the best because of all the character development she's been given, the great personality she has, and her unique design, among other smaller things.

Eesh, this is a difficult one. I don't think much about the non-game media to have any strong likes about it.

I guess I'm gonna go for SatAM/Underground's Robotropolis, since it does have some good-looking sci-fi buildings and interiors. That, and I guess I like the idea of Eggman/Robotnik having an entire city as his fortress.

Like I said, this was pretty difficult, so sorry about the short post.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Mina too. She's the one non-game character I wouldn't be opposed to having in the games.

Question #26: What is your SINGLE most favourite aspect/character/etc to come out of any non-game media?

Due to my lack of non-game media experience, I'll probably say from an aesthetic point of view, Dark Mobius Enerjak.

Seriously, that design is badass to look at.

Question #26: What is your SINGLE most favourite aspect/character/etc to come out of any non-game media?

Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts, sure they were technically in a game but they still have never appeared in the offical game universe.

I love these goofballs, how they can be loyal to Robotnik one minute and disrespecting him the other, their utter failure to catch Sonic and sometimes, actually being somewhat friends of them.

I'm glad we have Orbot and Cubot around to give the game universe these hijinks but I still have to pay respect to the originals.

30 Days of Sonic Act 2 Day 26: What is your SINGLE most favorite aspect/character/etc to come out of any non-game media?

I'm honestly not too sure about this because I don't really think too much about this kind of stuff however if I needed to answer or I'd die, I 'd guess I'd go with Robotropolis from SatAM because it looks interesting, and it looks so polluted and dark it looks like Eggman already won the battle.  I also like how menacing Eggman is in SatAM but the question isn't asking for how the character is portrayed.

Day 26 complete!

P.S. Sorry for this post being so short as I don't really have much to say this time.
