That's not Sony's problem though.

Don’t don’t have their own storefront which similarly still suffers from this problem?

and regardless, the statement being addressed wasn’t even specifically directed at Sony, it was a general “the only way to stop scalpers” point I was replying to in regards to this

very heavily doubt the scalper situation is ideal for Sony as well. Sony takes a loss on each and every console they make, they're relying on people becoming invested with the eco-system the console provides, and then making up the costs via software sales, both physically and digitally. More people buying consoles at inflated prices means less money for people to actually spend on Sony's eco-system when they do attain a console.

So these companies should publicly condemn scalpers already. There’s nothing they’re loosing by doing so. Staying quiet about it just comes off tone deaf and complacent. May not lead to anything tangible but at least we have companies publicly telling these people to fuck off. Politicians even are doing it, cause they get it’s a way to earn good PR

Yes, which is why I said "other than improving their own storefront", and frankly - the question still remains as to what they can even do to do so. There's already a number of measures typically implemented to stop scalpers, and yet the bots still usually have workarounds to get pass the measures. Some have order checks and measures they'll conduct before allowing payment of an order. There has been talks from government officials to put in laws against scalping in certain countries, but it's all up in the air. There's a reason scalping is such a problem, and it's because it's tricky to fight against, as countermeasures typically still get circumvented by bots.

You made a point of saying that if Sony and other companies wanted to sell their products, they'd do something about the scalpers. The problem is there isn't much they can do because these companies - unless it's their own specific storefronts - can't do squat about scalpers. That's down to the stores selling them. COVID absolutely hasn't helped the situation either because the lockdown restrictions worldwide essentially forced everything to be moved to online selling, meaning physical checks couldn't be done to ensure scalpers aren't attempting to buy out stores. Between scalpers preying on online sales to circumvent checks, and the chip shortages, it's been a very unfortunately storm for both Sony and Microsoft to launch their consoles.

I mean yeah, it'd be nice if they condemned scalpers, but again - what would that do? Sony, Microsoft, or any other company coming out and saying "hey guys, scalpers are bad" won't change jack squat about the situation. Storefronts will still be selling to them, scalpers will still be using bots to abuse and circumvent countermeasures, and the shortages would continue. Condemning it wouldn't change anything.

The politicians condemning it on the other hand is actually better because that's actually a chance of curb-stomping the scalping. With talks that the UK might end up making scalping bots illegal for example, that's actual change that has a chance of helping kick the problem down, especially if other countries decide to adopt it.

These game companies will work with politicians and governments when it comes to violent games and loot boxes and other monetization, it isn’t hard to imagine them working with politicians somehow on this or publicly standing behind governments working to mitigate this problem. May not mean a whole lot, but it’s at least good PR to not be silent about a issue even hurting your own finances

From Wednesday onwards, PS Plus members can get the free PS5 upgrade of FF7R if they picked it up back earlier this year.

Okay, but like why is this so goddamn cute (and cool af)

(On a unrelated note: I hope they use tech like this for stuff like Kingdom Hearts as well, cause there’s some cool potential I feel, like gummi ships, heartless showing up, Sora doing neat keyblade transformations, etc.)

imagine them doing a cloud and Sephiroth battle using this, or something like the airship flying out of the mountain. That shit would be hype

God damnit, first gaming news of the year and it’s this goddamn shit

This shit better not touch Kingdom Hearts or FF7R or they can kiss my ass. God knows what they have planned for FFXIV with regards to this

Just flies in the face of their most iconic games story, on top of the general contempt for their market you can pick up from reading this. Reeks of corporate cynicism and smug and absolutely no artistic value being seen in their creations

FF7R

And that already got a shoddy PC port. This is just insufferable.

Steph covered this entire letter. It’s bleak but a good video that does a good job explaining to anyone that’s going “what’s the big deal over this letter” why it’s so shit, and why it has so many people not excited for the future of gaming

Integrade is apparently coming to PS4 and steam, thank fuck. Crisis Core remaster(?) looks fucking amazing, definitely plan on picking that up.

and the next part of the Remake will be called FF7 Rebirth

4 FF7 titles tho releasing in the span of a year and a half…on top of FF16, and maybe even KH4…not sure how I feel about that. Like I’m excited for most of all these games, but yeah lol…

Edit: apparently integrade is not coming to PS4, and that was a misunderstanding based on wording that was being spread around. Welp. 😕
