Anything you want from the franchise that'd never realistically happen?

A modern Sonic game with a new jack swing/swingbeat soundtrack is something I like dreaming about every now and again. Every time I hear something from Bel Biv Devoe, Tony! Toni! Tone'!, Bobby Brown, etc. on the radio from the late 80s and early 90s, the compositions invoke comparisons to Sonic 3's music which- due to Michael Jackson's involvement- used a lot of similar beats, synth sounds, 808s, and chords. And since he's gone, going back to look at the music from that genre would be the next best thing.

So yeah, give Fumie Kumatani a huge mixtape of all of that kickass music and tell her to get to work. Best Sonic soundtrack right there.

Consistency.

Identity.

Quality assurance.

Less experimentation.

They're simple things to say/want, but with how SEGA is, they're doubtful to all be in over several games, let alone within a single game most of the time.

The Yakuza series would like to have a word with you.

Eh, never played the series myself... But man, the franchises I care about, SEGA doesn't seem to care about. NiGHTS, Phantasy Star (at least in America), and it took Yu Sazuki doing his own kickstarter to make Shenmue 3 happen. Sure, SEGA gave him the rights to use the IP- but they very clearly did not want to fund the game themselves.

Besides, SEGA are still the top dogs, they're held responsible for how they handle their brands, and the Sonic brand is a mismatched mess of badly handled and thrown together ideas to try and capture new audiences at this point. Basically throwing whatever they can at the wall to see what sticks. Lost World was/is a perfect example of what I mean.

So would Phantasy Star (Online onwards) and Hatsune Miku Project Diva/Mirai.

Take the Ubi art engine and make a Sonic game that looks like this:

tumblr_n9m5t1dsmE1tiysaho1_1280.jpg

I want a straight up followup to Sonic 3 and K in this style, and I'm talking an ACTUAL follow up. Not a Sonic 4 style regression.

- Does that mean 0 story? No. It means even more story than that game. Just make sure the story is told in a way that doesn't kill the pacing and is written well and you have a winner.

- Does that mean Sonic is the only playable character? Nope. Ideally it would have 4 or 5 characters to choose from like an Advance game at least.

- Use new locales. There's no need for the game to start in checkerboard greenery or have a casino level, or end in Robotnik's base even. Get creative! I want the same feeling I got blazing through Sonic Colors's more out there environments.

That would be my dream Sonic game, I guess. Unoriginal, sure, but it's what I want.

I don't agree on Sonic Riders but I pretty much totally agree with this. That said, I think the Promo Material for Sonic CD is better source material

Does anyone know the artist of the 2011 Sonic CD Promo Material?

A game that's basically a YouTube Poop of various other games in the series. Levels remixed and fused in ridiculous ways, a story formed out of other stories, characters doing some weird things in addition to repeating their memes... Basically, it's an original, inventive Generations II.

Realistically, just leave that to the internet. It would realistically happen once the idea's out there, I can guarantee it.

I would love to see a Super form battle between two or more chaos emerald users, such as Super Sonic and Super Shadow.

We saw a little bit of that in the Sonic X Japanese introduction, and a small bit in the Metarex sega. I would love to see that in game. However, with Sega so determined at this point to limit the super form to Sonic and Sonic alone, we can't have a super-form battle, can we.

Another game like Sonic Heroes, but with the Hedgehog Engine (or the alternate engines the user for other games like Lost World).

The game doesn't have to be Sonic Heroes 2, but I always wanted to have the team gameplay return one day.

Lost World also ran on the Hedgehog Engine.

I really wish that Sonic games come packaged with a full modkit, but then i realize that Sonic Team's a Japanese dev team and cry on the floor.

Other than that though, I'd love a First Person Sonic game (Tribes without guns and jetpacks basically).

Funny you should mention tribes, playing ascend made me want a CTF mode in a Sonic game. Unrealistic in two ways, it'd need real sonic physics, and it'd need an audience for a team based competitive mode in a Sonic game. Of course I also wish Hi Res would un-break tribes ascend and that doesn't look like it's going to happen, so this isn't that off topic either.

I also had some random ideas for a Sonic football game. That's American Football, I mean, incorporating stuff like power characters deforming terrain, throwing other characters, maybe breaking out the chaotix elastic rings, but man there are so many obstacles for this, not the least of which is actually making a whole team, considering how weird Sega gets about duplicating characters.

Why do you think Tribes Ascend is broken ? Is it because of the hit-scan guns ?

On the topic of CTF, if that's the only mode then it'll be very stale very fast, they must add other modes like FFA/TDM or 10Domination (Domination but with 10 points that cap instantly to not slow down the game)

They just need to copy PASS Time and they're already gold.

Character development for characters who aren't as popular due to not having been introduced with a story to develop from in mind, thus instantly granting them a comparatively smaller chance at representation. Focus only being on the popular ones runs the risk of running their plots into the ground and making things convoluted for them while at the same time diminishing the focus of the others so that they remain blank slates by comparison.

Hi-Res added a bunch of direct upgrade primary replacements that screwed up the balance while ignoring a bunch of major issues while on their witch hunt to make the sniper balanced in more serious competitive environments.  They completely ignored that the sniper's little machine pistol caused so much aim flinching that it was almost impossible to fight against for a really silly reason, but that's not the most OP thing, the raider with his SMG has the health of a heavy with the mobility of a medium, but that's not the most OP thing, the juggernaut with the LMG and thrown spinfusor disk could both eliminate the heavy on flag with relative impunity and had both an AoE projectile and and a repeater projectile, a combo that you basically can't fight against.  The way to fight a fusor type weapon is to be in the air, and the way to fight a repeater projectile is to be on the ground ADADADA dancing, you just swap to the other for free damage.

But I don't see any other conventional multiplayer mode other than CTF really working, or making sense for Sonic, save like a race mode.

- A gripping, exciting, and maybe even occasionally emotional story. One that makes you really care deeply about everyone involved. Mostly linear, in the style of SA2, but with the controls and mechanics of Generations or Unleashed (day). Or, if Knuckles has levels, give those the mechanics of the Night stages of Unleashed (or at least anything but that goddamn gem hunting nightmare...)

- Take another shot at Dark Brotherhood, but this time hand the rights over to Square Enix and let those guys work their RPG magic.

That's it from me, really.

I'd like to see how Sonic got to be so good at everything. I wonder what his training regimen is? Maybe a new game can start off with him at his place doing squats and lunges and practicing his dancing maneuvers for a quick minute until he gets interrupted by Eggman or some NPC causing trouble and off he goes to start his new adventure.

Imagine Knuckles exercising on Angel Island all by his lonesome. We know he likes martial arts, but apart from him shadow boxing and doing push ups as his idle animations in a few games, I think it'd be neat to see him in the middle of a work out sesh before he goes out to do whatever the story calls for.

I think I like Dragon Ball and Hunter x Hunter too much.

Is it weird that I immediately thought of One Punch Man?

"You know how I got this fast? 100 push-ups! 100 sit-ups! 100 squats! A 10km run EVERY SINGLE DAY!"

"You idiot, that's just normal strength training!"

Sonic's story in Adventure is my favorite version of 3D Sonic, mainly because of the control, level design, and perfect pacing. If there was a full blown 3D remake of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, in the gameplay style of Sonic's story in the first Sonic Adventure? Sign me up.
