How any form of banning is decided?

Sorry to take this up here if its not a topic suited to be brought up, but since i dont know where else i would talk about this. I decided to make this topic anyway. Ofcourse if you feel its not suited feel free to tell me so and inform me of where i should talk about this issue.

So, recently i participated in a comment section on a written piece made by "Hogfather". I criticised this piece on its lack of subtlty and lack of actual information about groups that the induvidual in question decided to call "splinter groups".

I may not have been the most polite person there but considering the way the actual piece was written, my own tone should be seen as acceptable. Now i was confronted by the person in question in which we started an argument.

After a bit of sentences being made my comments were removed and i couldnt make new comments. So, since i wasnt even informed/warned about any of this i am curios to how banning actualy works.

The first question I should ask before saying anything is the following. Was this regarding an article on the main site of TSS (The Sonic Stadium) or was this on these boards on which you currently post, SSMB (Sonic Stadium Message Boards)? I ask this because the TSS and SSMB work in slightly different ways. For instance, I am a moderator on the SSMB, but I do not have anything to do with the TSS in regards to news articles or its comment section and moderation of said section.

On the SSMB, we mostly operate on a three-strike/warn level system. This means that violation to the rules, now also referred to as guidelines, can earn you a strike/warn point. If you are given two strikes, you will be suspended for a week as per standard protocol, however milder and harsher levels of suspension do apply as we see fit. This is not to be as harsh as possible, but to let the user adapt more to what might be going wrong. If there is still no improvement, a third strike means a permanent suspension, but this can be lifted in the future if you decide to appeal at a later point.

This may not be what you are out after regarding information, but it can be nice to know regardless! In regards to SSMB, do not worry, one violation does not automatically mean a strike. Also, sometimes we can bypass the three-strike system if we deem an instant ban as appropriate. This is mostly reserved for critical situations, like posting porn or accounts made for the purpose of dodging a permanent suspension.

If this is regarding TSS, then somebody else might be able to give you more details on how articles and their comment sections are moderated. At any rate ... if moderating TSS comment sections is the duty of SSMB staff, somebody will have to tell me right away, because I will have missed a lot of work to be done! Whoops.

I see, its not on these forums. If i was banned from here i wouldnt be able to make this topic, right? It was an article named "the spin". So i guess that leaves us with TSS.

Good point! Though we do have a number of members who were previously banned, and they ended up popping back in after a while and now they are a very integral part of the community, so it is quite possible. It is also possible to be banned only from certain aspects of the boards, like the status updates commenting section.

Why did I remove your comments/place you on moderation from TSS?

Because you were trolling and one post you made more or less admitted that you were just posting stuff to try and get a reaction, I believe you said "Im just playing along to humor you."

In that article you had constantly gone on for over 10 replies about how I'd used the words 'splinter group' to describe something that you are obviously apart of, and apparently this had offended you in some way/you were claiming your group made no such claims despite the fact I hadn't named any group nor did you provide the name of the group in your comments towards me. Furthermore at one point I'm pretty sure you demanded I respond to some random article on a random site just because of reasons you failed to mention.

Despite repeatedly asking you 'What exactly had I wrote/What was in the article which offended you' you replied with 'It's already there, learn to read, act like a man for once and reply' etc.

So at which point I told you to either post what was offending you in the article or find another site to comment on.

You then posted this...

answering a question to someone who doesnt want to see serves no purpose, i have answered your question already a couple of times. its not my problem at this rate that all you can do is be ignorant.

I then looked further down the article and noticed that you had made a number of odd off topic remarks/paragraphs, one of which was a rather odd part about why you dislike Aaron Webber, I believe it was accusing him of posting memes to appease Sonic Colours fans? Despite the fact the article had nothing to do with either of those subjects.

So then I went and checked your comment history, and noticed you had done a very similar thing in an article about Season 2 of Sonic Boom being confirmed at which you'd posted off topic stuff/refused to explain what you were saying and ignored pretty much everyone who tried to point out that you were not engaging with the discussion or actually making any sense.

At points it read like some kind of mission statement from a campaign group and frankly neither articles had anything to do with campaigns or the future gaming direction.

Weighing up all this, and the fact it wasn't very long ago we said that we would be cracking down on people who leave off topic stuff like that in comments, what did you honestly expect to happen?

Haha, thank you for the information. its good to know.

Are you refering to the part when i said i was humoring you? cause if thats the case then i think you need to understand the context in which it was given.

You told me that i should name this "page" that i was refering to. I then told you that acting like you dont know is just you digging your own grave at this point, we have people who already named the page on this very topic. im humoring you by playing along.

This is not me telling you that i wanted a reaction, this is me telling you to not act coy with me. But whatever, realy. I know now that when it comes to criticism, you cant handle it and will make up arguments that doesnt exist, victimise yourself and come up with theories on why i say certain things....when you simply could just answer what i am actualy talking about.

If you want to complain about how I've apparently offended someone, you might get a better reply if you actually post details as to what group/who I've apparently offended, which you've still not done and frankly I cannot be bothered to waste anymore time on this it's not like you weren't asked multiple times to do so.

Just that i never commented about how you had offended anyone, thats one of your imagenary theories. sadly since my comments were removed i have no way to prove it anymore. its just your word against mine now.

Anyway, i was just curios about how banning worked since it intriuged me that you seemed to have absolute authority. Im not mad about being banned, as far as im concerned i can stay banned as well.
