The IPB4 Textbox Troubleshooting Thread (aka the "Yes, for the thousandth time, we know" thread.)

Over the past few months, many of you have probably noticed that while our recent software upgrade has come with its own share of cool new features, it has also come with its own share of problems as well, not the least of which is a bug in the text box that has made posting for some rather difficult to put it mildly.  Okay, let me just get to the point.  This issue has been brought up so many times before to the point where I'm starting to sound like a broken record, and it's frankly just a little taxing being forced to re-explain the same issue when it's been posted on the front page of this forum on countless occasions.  So to hopefully alleviate this problem, I've decided to pin a topic on the matter to say for hopefully the very last time: This is a known issue with IPB4 that should hopefully be patched in a future update.

Now, the good news is that there are some solutions that might work:  We're aware that for some users, none of these steps have solved the problems and we deeply apologize for the inconvenience.  For everyone else, hopefully this will help!

1. Click around the space where the textbox should be if it doesn't appear.

Sometimes the textbox is just invisible for some reason.  Try clicking around the area where it should be.  This will "select" the textbox, making it visible again.

2. Refresh the page

Sometimes it just refuses to load once.  Refresh the page and try again.

3. If those don't work, try clearing your cache.

A corrupt cache might make certain assets not load correctly.  Clearing it out might help.

4.  Clear all your cookies on SSMB.

Corrupt or outdated cookies could also cause some interference when loading.

Personally, I think all cookies are pure and perfect, though.

5. Update your browser to the newest version if possible.

Make sure your internet connection is Y2K compatible.

5. If all else fails, reinstall your browser (if applicable)

Reinstall your browser to return to default settings.  Be sure to back up your bookmarks and other personal details before doing so!

6. If this began happening shortly after installing a plugin, temporarily disable that plugin and see if it works without it.

Some plugins, such as Adblock, might interfere with certain widgets on the site.  Try disabling them to see if it makes a difference.

7. Fuck it.

Just fuck it.

Again, this is a known issue with IPB4 in general.  It's not a problem specific to SSMB.  We hope to have it resolved as soon as possible so all our members can participate without unnecessary hassle.  Until then, no more topics on the matter, please.  Thanks for reading and understanding!
