Are you ready to go on adventure? No? Too bad.

Episode 49;

In this episode, Ian's got a new project potentially in the pipe, along with Adam Bryce Thomas and a man called Tariq Koossa. In today's episode, Ian talks with said president of I & T Publishing Company Inc to tell everyone about AcademX, including the general premise, the purpose of the project, the characters in there and what you can do to help.

But I think an actual page could explain it better than my notes.

Kickstarter for AcademX: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/485112127/academx-space-crew

I know another real adventure you can go along for; the Q&A!

-Was Naugus transformation scene in Shattered inspired by Full Metal Alchemist - Going to chalk it up to coincidence, it is, although he can see some similarities scene in FMA is more dramatic, scene in Shattered is played more for laughs, not a conscious decision.

-Does Ian think Rotor and Lady Walrus are related - Kyle doesn't know who Lady Walrus is so Ian explains who she is and how the walruses in Boom are similar visually to Rotor, can't say with any insight whether Boom team took inspiration from Rotor, it is so close that it makes him raise an eyebrow, nothing he can confirm or deny.

-What would Sonic version of Mr Rogers be like and would Sally be fan of the show - Complete headcanon of Ian, Mr Rogers of Sonic world would maybe be a dog (golden retriever maybe, something known to be friendly), pretty much the same as the real show beat for beat, all the kids loved it growing up, goies through how each of the FFs would be inspired by the show, no matter what reality he exists in Mr Rogers is a fantastic, wonderful, loving being [Eh, I never saw the show, so I'd say at least a few of the cast wouldn't have been able to see it growing up], no alternate universe where he is evil.

-Can Archie still reprint the comics or is that all dead with the end of the partnership - Ian has no idea, that's between SEGA/Archie/IDW/people way above him, would love to see the post-reboot stuff reprinted one day in some capacity but that's personal desire [The answer is no].

-If Ian had chance to write solo comic for a DC or Marvel villain, who and why - Some of the Marvel ones he's thinking have been done so many times he doesn't think he could bring anything new, thinks it would be fun if they told him to write something fun for a C or D list villain, Riddler for DC, loves his presentation, would love to write something for him, loved it when he was a quasi-reformed PI using quirks to solve crimes, still interesting in that or as villain, also thinks he has a pitch for a twist on Doomsday, more than "Superman smash"!, keeping that in his pocket.

-What was first time reading a Spider-Man comic - Sure he had odd ones here and there, one he remembers the most was the showdown between him and Eddie Brock, confused because there was a group with weapons hunting Venom and Peter's parents were alive, one scene stands out most; Spider-Man standing there, suit torn ragged, clear he's been through a lot, turns around last second because spider sense doesn't work on Venom, Eddie Brock standing there with coolest looking leather jacket uniform that's Symbiote themed, Brock glaring down and saying "Normally you run from us", Ian didn't care about set-up or what was going on but thought this was coolest thing ever, biker suit morphs into Symbiote Venom look, thought Venom was coolest character ever, alternatively issue where Harry Osborne dies, doesn't know why he had that issue as he didn't know what was going on, Kyle hasn't really read a Spider-Man comic, his first exposure was the 90s Spider-Man cartoon, also the Raimi films, also saw Spectacular Spider-Man which was good, Ian goes on tangent about the X-men cartoon and one of the funnier moments. also one of the darker moments.

Ok Dude I like the comments you throw in from time to time but is there really any reason to be pessimistic here? No one knows what IDW's going to do. There could be reprints down the line if they were to talk and make a deal with the people who did those comics.

The question was "can Archie reprint the comics", and that's a solid no. Whether IDW can do it is another matter. I doubt it because SEGA would likely not want that, but that's not as concrete.

Whoops, a bit late on this one, but nothing too out of the ordinary should be on this one, righ--

*Aaron Webber*

Oh.

Episode 50;

Yep, for this special episode of the Bumblekast, they've managed to pull Aaron Webber in as a guest star! Ian goes to Memeland and is not afraid to dive in deep.

-They talk about Aaron's path from being a fan to going pro [didn't know he was from Missouri] and the charity work he did in the interim when he took a break at SEGA (he runs a PSO guild and they made a charity fangame called Jem Pirates Story)

-Aaron notes some of the good stuff fans have sent in to them out of numerous things (one was a poster with a collage of fanart sent in by a group of fans, various custom plushes, a list of trivia and golden rings given by a Make-A-Wish child late July when they wanted to meet Sonic. He also noted that few franchises have as many passionate fans)

-The inner workings of the marketing team is explained (it was originally just him and an agency, he decided to do what he wanted at risk of discipline as previous teams had been too restricted, it paid off, he brought in the agency to make a new plan, Sergio knew the channels when he was brought in, He and Sergio now work together with the agency, they can make up to 20 takes before they make any post, the agency still can input on things that go too far but otherwise they let them be autonomous) as well as a specific example in the form of the Eggman/Sonic audio duels (only bit pre-planned was that they would have Mike first, then Roger in a room, only pre-recorded thing was the announcement of it happening, then Aaron and Sergio would write dialogue on a whim when they went in the room for Mike and Roger to say, got edited and posted quickly so they were quickfire, name-drops some of the fans that ended up involved).

-Aaron talks about his plans post-Mania as it was recorded before its release and before the launch trailer (Both partying like it's 1995 since they were very busy at the time of the interview (while mentioning that the animation took six months and both praising Hesse for his quality and work ethic) and resting for the next phase of his SEGA work).

-Aaron is quizzed on his most obscure or rare pieces of Sonic memorabilia that he owns (he has a Sonic plush from Japan that may have been one of the first ever made which was given to him by T-Bird, he also owns a Sonic 10th anniversary statue that was signed by Toyoda, Shroeder, Nielson and Kaminski (aka the old SoA marketing guard)).

-Aaron reaffirms that S3&K is his favourite classic era game and likes that Sonic Mania is comparable in size to it (but they talk about the barrel).

-He also thanks the comic staff for their efforts over the years.

But the trip in Memeland isn't over yet, as there's an extra large Q&A to contend with.

-How would Ian assume that Zero came back from hiding '[hanging???] himself so he could repair himself in X6 - Would love to untangle the X continuity, would depend on how he approached the X5 story as to how to go through X6 then start on X7, no concrete answer off the bat as he feels he'd need to sit down and look at the whole story and see how would be best to handwave a few things, revise a few things or potentially make hints towards Mega Man Zero eg Zero in X6 was a copy and MMZ is where Omega gets the original body, that doesn't make sense so not that example specifically,  no definite answer but would put a lot of thought into it.

-Any chance for Archie comic characters to come back in IDW comic - Ian has no idea, that's up to SEGA, IDW and Archie, there's legal concerns, business concerns, concerns Ian can't even guess at, could be that one person wants it but another doesn't so it's vetoed, could be outside forces blocking it, could be that nobody wants it, no way of telling.

-How much effort is put into making the characters feel empathetic/organic, how much in more fantastical events that may not be relatable - Comes down to writing characters in a way that makes it feel real to them and the world they're in in a nutshell, comes from understanding who the characters are, what their world is and how they interact with each other, Aleah and Ian have spent a great deal of effort brainstorming and revising how things work or wouldn't work, with fantastical elements it depends how fantastical they are in relation to that part of the world, eg: You have the Chaos Emeralds that can perform miracles but they're a standard object in Sonic's World that are proven to exist so that sets a bar, beings in that world would understand magic being real and not be taken off-guard by it, whether they believe it's magic or that it's science that's unproven they would regardless be comfortable with the fact the Chaos Emeralds are there and do thing. suspension of disbelief as well to a degree because many larger than life moments that happen in comics and games are things that are hard to think of in realistic sense, still engaged in story so its accepted as people go along, as long as characters react to events in ways that seem plausible to reader then it goes from there.

-Were post-Unleashed adaptation stories designed to be easy to pick up by a new publisher - Absolutely not, no reason to think so, comics were written 6 months ahead of being published, because of Diamond's stranglehold on the industry solicitations have to be posted 3 months in advance of that, pulling solicitations takes a lot of time, effort and money. so the fact solicitations were coming out for the comic after it was cancelled means nothing about the development process, he was working steadily towards StH#300 and SU#100 until he got the call, waited on it himself while business was occurring higher up, ultimately found out it was done, no greater behind the scenes scheme, it was just a matter of life getting in the way of plans.

-Will we see more light-hearted stories or darkly comedic stories where serious stuff has ridiculous presentation ala Judge Dredd - Ian doesn't get the Judge Dredd reference [blimey guv'nor], wonders if asker was referring to Sin City spoof that actually happened in the Sonic comic, what Ian had planned after GoaH was more individual stories that were lighter in tone but still moved story forward, then a big climactic issue 300, some people were tired of length of Shattered World Crisis, decided to do smaller stories to cleanse the palette a bit, there's some discussion about Unleashed itself.

-Was the centre Rouge and Relic operated from (in Total Eclipse) from the games - No.

-Any advice for getting own work off the ground - Perseverance is important, putting stuff out there can be terrifying (even for a veteran like Ian), you need to be firm with yourself, set a schedule if needed, sit down, get it done, revise it on another occasion, set goals for progress, don't try to do it in one go as it may wear you out on the work and make you miss issues and problems, don't give up on it, if you want to do it, get it done.

-Who owns characters made for the Mega Man comic - Ian's understanding is that Capcom owns then, can't vouch 100% as he's not a lawyer but as he knows if Capcom wanted to use them they can.

-If we can't see the rest of the E-series robots (presumably within the 100 boundary), what would they look like - Ian doesn't know as he didn't get to them, would share theme of having similar chassis to Gamma but that aside he has no idea, more creative than just Gamma recolours as he made one a Jaguar, one a UFO, one with piston spike arms and three of them references to the SSSSS Squad [and then Phi comes along to ruin it all].

 -Reader wanted Ian to be the one writing Sonic Forces - Ian's been getting it a lot and ignoring it for a reason, if Ian was working on the game he would have signed an NDA that would bar him from saying anything about the game, if he said no and then he got on it later then that would make him a liar, wait for the game and see if he's in it or not [the writer is Shun Nakamura for the record].

-What happened to Geoffrey St John in M:30YL - Doesn't know, never got around to him, we know he didn't live happy life due to what was going on in the comics in present with him, doesn't know if a happy ending really suits his type of character, likes to think that he found peace with who he was and what he had done, made amends with folks as best he could and moved on with his life whether still being a secret agent or going off the grid quietly, doesn't know as it's out of his hands at this point.

-Chances of Sonic comics getting animated - Ian would say slim to none, there's a specific vision for Sonic, whatever that vision is is what they want to promote, old Archie stuff was a mishmash of AostH and SatAM and smidges of other continuities like the OVA, Sonic X, Underground etc, all not necessarily representative of the present incarnation of the franchise, unless the the thinking behind the marketing completely changes then he doesn't see it happening.

-Does Rouge love Shadow - He doesn't know, implication seems to be that she has some degree of affection for him but that could be deep friendship, question of whether Rouge could settle down and fall for someone because she seems a little bit too self-serving for that, Shadow wouldn't reciprocate as he's too busy brooding.

Gotta love how he answered my waste of a question there so bluntly.

So they're still on the brink of running low on questions? Noted....

So yeah, I've had shenanigans galore happening over the past month, meaning these two episodes have been super late. But I plan to rectify that now, with the mid-October episode now and the late-October episode later in the week. So let's crack on to another castle!

Episode 28;

-Will Freedom Fighters ever have individual rivals - Nicole already has a villain in Phage, Mario sound effects abound as he covers his own spoilers for Antoine and Bunnie, Rotor has enough baggage with Tundra, Sally has so much focus that a personal rival would overburden her with attention.

Guess we know what at least one of these are now.

Whelp, looks like the flood gates got opened. Ian and Kyle are open to suggested topics--You're welcome.

Makes me wonder about how they picked the questions, though.

So I don't want to sound impatient but are we going to be getting anymore Transcriptions?

They do it when they have time and motivation to. They may do it in a few days, a week, or even months after the video.

It's easier to listen on your own if you can't wait.

I'll be trying to update around the new year when my schedule is more relaxed briefly. Real life has consumed a lot of my time lately, barely had time to even do simple stuff on the net, let alone sit down and take notes for hours at a time.
