Summer of Sonic 2016 "Mr Yuji Naka is alright!"

Recommended Posts

Sorry if I missed something on this (and I have a feeling I have) but is there any word on when we'll be able to print tickets? I'm just triple checking all my bookings and paperwork for the trip.

We will have mobile ticketing in addition to printed tickets, for those who aren't able to print their off for whatever reason.

The release of tickets is essentially waiting on Sega's legal team to give us the go-ahead, which is Monday at the earliest. They're ready to go, otherwise.

Yuji Naka's gonna be there now?! Sweet! Really can't wait for this event now. Must admit, a bit nervous about the whole thing (such as travelling down to London, etc.) but this looks as if it's gonna be so much fun.

The traditional Marine and Tails Doll animation from BoozermaN looks to be returning once more as the start of Summer of Sonic along with many more animations such as Sonic Paradox's never before seen animation. I can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves for this one.

Quote
Hello, one and all, another announcement today, two in fact.

As is tradition with Summer of Sonic, we reached out to community artists of both animation and traditional/digital art.

marinetailsdoll.jpg

This year will see the return of BoozermaN, as he returns with his traditional Summer of Sonic animation. Sonic Paradox also return with a never before seen short, as well as Frobman offering us a new animated short as well. This isn’t all, as we also have some unannounced animations that will be being shown, some for the first time at this years Summer of Sonic. These videos will take place sporadically throughout the day, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for when they are released!

Also keeping with Summer of Sonic tradition, we will be seeing the return of featured fan artists this year. Joining notable names from the past is Miles Arquio, a Summer of Sonic veteran and previous art contest winner, as well as two artists who have highlighted Weston Super Sonic in Rebecca Wallduck and Kimmy Paris. All these artists will be situated in the art corner, and we encourage you to visit these artists over the course of the day and say hello!

Keep ’em peeled for more announcements as we get ever closer to Summer of Sonic on August 6th!

See you soon!

The ticket is making me excited too. Very appealing design as well!

I still have one vacancy unaccounted for with my ticket as I could only find one person to go with me, and I have a three person ticket. So if anyone is interested, please let me know so I can work something out (you will also get a t-shirt too since my ticket includes three t-shirts).

In the event that I can't find someone who wants to go, am I still entitled to take the extra t-shirt and goody bag that would have gone to the third person at the event?

Thanks, I just wasn't sure and didn't want to come off as really greedy or something on the day.

I wish I could say I have a specific third person who couldn't make it that I will give them too, but truthfully, I only bought for three people because the reward tier for 2 tickets, 2 t-shirts, and 1 Anniversary coin was all gone by the time I found out about the coin. I had one person I knew could go with me from the beginning, but wasn't sure about anyone else. My brother would have taken the third spot, but he recently had to take a trip to Liverpool so his money had to go towards that.

That being said, if anyone knows someone who can go to the venue without much hassle, but doesn't have their own ticket and would like to go, be sure to let me know!

I've got a similar issue right now. Got the three tickets but one of my friends dropped out the other day, so I've got a spare ticket going if anyone is interested.

I'm particularly annoyed as I'd booked the hotel and train ticket stuff already when he dropped out, but shit happens.

Also, random question. I have no idea how the heck the underground tubes work in London. Do I pre-book my tickets or pay when I get to the stations?

One thing I'm not sure about...The "West Brompton" station is a tube/underground station or a train station?

I don't know If I'm explaining myself...In Spain are different things (one station can be both though)

It is an Underground station
And Overground station
AND a train station.

Which probably doesn't help your confusion in the slightest. Sorry.

West Brompton is the station I'll be getting off at on Friday. Despite appearing small, it does indeed cater to proper trains as well as the underground.

I suspect numerous people from outside the area will arrive at that station.

You've got four basic options:

  • Pay cash at the ticket machines for each journey: Don't do this, it's prohibitively expensive and slow.
  • Buy a Day Travelcard at the ticket machines when going for your first journey of the day: It's about as slow (ticket machines, particularly at the mainline stations, are busy as fuc), and you need to tell it whether you're planning at Peak times (Saturday and Sunday is all Off-Peak) and which Zones you want to cover (see this map but generally if staying in Central London, pick Zones 1&2), but an Off-Peak card is cheaper than two cash journeys. Some train tickets into London include a Day Travelcard for the day of travel, but you'll generally know about this when you buy it.
  • Buy an Oyster card from ticket machines or helpdesk when you arrive. This costs £5 upfront (paid back to you if you return the card), and you preload it with a certain amount of money. Then, tap it on the yellow points on the turnstiles when entering and leaving the station and it'll take the value of the journey (around half the price of a cash ticket) off your card's balance. The card maxes out on a daily basis at about the same price as an equivalent Day Travelcard, so in general you won't pay more per day. You also get a couple of specialist perks like being able to apply your Railcard to it (reduces your daily cap by a third) if you have one.
  • Use a contactless bank card on the yellow tap-in points. If you have a contactless card, this is the easiest choice as it requires no setup. It's generally the same price as Oyster, but it's taking money directly out of your bank account.

The price you pay on the Tube is based on which Zones you go through in a single journey (so, you don't pay for each train) - you enter at one station, leave at another, and that decides the fare. The spaghetti of train lines looks complicated, but it doesn't take long to get used to.

Yeah, as Kevin said it's all of the above. The train part is only connected to  a handful of other stations in London, so you don't really need to worry about that.

If you're arriving from Heathrow, take the Underground as it's only one change (at Earl's Court, to the District Line for trains going to Wimbledon). Other arrival points, we can advise :)

In general, there's some travel info at https://hub.summerofsonic.com/navigation that may be of help. The general rule on the Underground is:

  • Get to Earl's Court (or get onto the District Line - the dark green one - and get to Earl's Court; all District trains go through it)
  • Make sure you're on a District Line train going south towards Wimbledon - West Brompton is the first stop from Earl's Court.

Well, we're gonna arrive on Gatwick, so I was thinking about getting the Easybus option to go to West Brompton where we are hosted.

The thing is that the airline (Easyjet) suggested reserving the Easybus tickets, but it was insanely expensive (10 pounds per person or something like that)...I don't know if it's really that expensive (Considering we are supposed to arrive between 23:00 and 00:00 this Friday) or it's just Easyjet being cheeky.

edit: seems that getting an Oyster Card is the best option, I'll make sure to get it at the airport.

You can use contactless bank cards? That's good to know. Thanks guys for the help!

If anyone know's of someone who wants a ticket, let me know. I'm not even particularly bothered about money or whatever, I'd rather it just not go to waste.
